No idea why this place has such a low star rating! I travel to Anchorage periodically for work and have been coming here on and off for over a year. The staff are always friendly and courteous and they have a good system to get in a chair and check out at the end. I've never had to wait as a walk in. I always get a nice spa pedicure with simple gel nails and they do a fantastic job. The price for a gel pedicure is $75 for the deluxe spa package (it's $50 plus an extra $25 for gel.) So about what I'd pay at home in a big city in the lower 48. Highly recommend! read more

Very cute place, we're able to get an appointment the day of within an hour or so! Super nice people with great customer service who know what they're doing. Very chill atmosphere with quiet music playing. Definitely would go again! My friend and I were vert happy with what we got :) not extremely expensive either!! EDIT: Changed it to 3 stars -- I don't know if it was just the specific person who did my nails or something but unfortunately after just 3 days of working my nails started to chip pretty badly and now I have had to trim my already pretty short nails so they don't keep getting caught while working. They were very nice people & I was able to get seen asap. I gotten dip nails, but when I was done they looked very bulky at the sides making my nails look round. I went back to request to get them filed down. The guy who fixed them had worn out gloves to the point his nails were showing. He used a drill bit to file my nails, going way too fast & kept cutting my cuticles! I got a total of 3 cuts. Worst set of acrylics I've ever gotten, and bad experience too. 1- I specified French tip. Instead of using white tips as the base, he used clear and charged me for a French Tip paint job, and it's not even symmetric. 2- He glued the tips to my skin and didn't even try to fix it. 3- Ridiculously thick and uneven acrylic. Not to mention the tips. Refilling the tips to look nice. After my event I'll be resurfacing them as well. 4 - He cut me not once, but twice, with the file while filing my nails. (Which as mentioned in 3, he didn't even do well.) 5- Started filing one of my nails before it was set, and messed it up. Didn't go back to correct it. Now it's even more wonky than the rest of them. So glad I didn't take my daughter with me to get hers done. I will NOT be going back here. I have gone to this location for a few years, but will be switching to another salon that does a better job and doesn't nickel and dime you. For a gel fill they charge $65. On top of the regular fee, which is already more than other places, they charge an extra five dollars to cut your nails and then another extra five dollars to fix one that had broken, though I don't know that there was anything extra they really had to do. I believe they charge an extra $10 if they have to "fix" more than one nail. The nails don't last more than a couple weeks for me and overall place has gotten too expensive and I will go elsewhere. read more

I understand that it's expensive to keep them nice and new but it just give you the "old, run down feel." The rest of the atmosphere and decor is still chic and cute. After telling them what you want, they make you wash your hands before sitting down. The nail techs were wearing face masks and gloves. They take cleanliness very seriously and I appreciate that. very unhappy with this nail salon. First, I went in for dipped nails. I ask for my polish to be soaked off. They acted put out and said it takes to long. Then I ask for them to not use the dremel tool so harsh and close to my mail bed. The girl nicked 3 fingers and made me bleed. To top it off, the last step of dip should be a last base coat and clear coat, no they use a clear coat and put you under the blue light to harden. This turned my color! They said this is the way they do it. This cost me $55. Very unsatisfied. I tried them twice, both times something was wrong. read more

So disappointed. I brought my daughter here for her 7th birthday and her lady was so rough and rude. As typical 7 year olds go she had dirt under her toe nails from running and playing. The lady (her name was Lek I believe) wouldn't stop when my daughter complained that she was hurting her. I stepped in and demanded she stop and that she was hurting her. The lady threw a fit saying she couldn't clean her toes and do her job if she wouldn't sit still or allow her to use the tool. I asked if she could use a scrub brush instead, she gave a bunch of attitude. I told her that we are paying either way and to just humor her and make it a good experience for my daughter. My daughter also expressed that she had a small cut on her ankle and it stung when the lady put the soapy water on it and repeated my she forced my daughters foot in the water. She painted her toes and left skipping most of the rest of the experience like massage and stuff. I have never been so disappointed. Has this lady never had a child in before? Or been around children? I will never come back here for that lady alone. The lady that did my toes was very nice so I can't speak for them all but my pedicure was definitely rushed through as if to get us out faster because of the issues with my daughters lady. It's okay... the guy didn't have me wash my hands after he shaped them and filed them. Also normally the acrylic is more opaque when I get my nails done and this was like glass. It looked weird and I had to add a little polish which I don't normally wear. Going back for a round two maybe it'll be better this time. Split nail and peeling skin after trying powder set. My nail split approximately 2 - 3 weeks after getting my nails done by Tommy. They used a drill on my natural nails to prep them which I didn't know using a drill is too harsh to use on your natural nails, then after using the drill they were still buffed and filed, which made them even weaker. My nails took too much of a beating and horrible technique which made for an end result you can see in the photos. The salon has quick and fast service, but bad end product. Now, I think my nail is infected and I don't know who to trust to have this powder taken off. If you are new in town or a regular..... you might want to think twice before going here. read more

This beautiful salon is the only place that can get my nails the way I like them, which makes it all worth the price of getting your nails done nowadays! Tom has been my nail tech for years. I used to go to him & only him when he & Joe were at another salon, & when Tom's brother opened Today's Nails, I followed them there. If Tom is not available, Joe is my next choice. I've never personally had Joe do my nails, but I have seen his work on my friends & family, & other clients when I'm at the salon. I consider both Tom & Joe nail artists because "nail tech" simply doesn't do them justice. Everyone there does beautiful work & you won't be disappointed. They are fast but don't rush if it will sacrifice quality. Since they accept walk-ins, you may have to wait a few minutes even if you have an appointment BUT it is ALWAYS worth the wait! They have countless colors for gel nails & gel polish/Shellac. It would take years to try them all, even if you tried a new color at every appointment. They are masters at the current trends or making something totally different & new, whether it be your idea or theirs. I am what you would consider a regular at Today's Nails given it's a salon that doesn't require an appointment. There are times one just can't be pin downed with an appointment due to rapidly changing schedules. And I usually don't know I want a pedicure until the day I do it. Having gone here for a few years now I can tell you that while Today's Nails does accept appointments, for those like me that aren't always able to get one they do accept walk ins. I find the best time to do it is usually first thing on the weekends when they open. 10:00 on Saturdays and 11:00 on Sunday's for those not "in the know". And when it comes to pampering services I have pretty much tried them all here. Everything from pedicures to gel nails and even sometimes I will get my brows waxed if it's been awhile. Of course there are certain techs that I prefer over others. But have only been truly unhappy 4-5 times in several years with the outcome of my nails. Once when I had solar installed and it was lifting within 2 weeks of having them done. Another when I assume the polish was old and it was bubbling. When I went back the following day to voice my concerns I was promptly taken care of. Today's Nails operates in 3 locations. The original on Huffman, this location in the mall that houses REI and the newest location off of Dimond Blvd and King Street. The techs can operate between all locations depending on how busy they are on any given day. I have seen large wedding parties come in to get pedicures and they were all accommodated. Of course they might be sitting a little longer at the pedi chairs but they will call up other locations to ask for help. The pedicures come at different levels with the basic starting around $30.00 I believe. Then there is a deluxe and a super deluxe. If Noi is working that day I will always chose one of the deluxe ones because that girl can give a mean massage. She is one of my favorite techs there. And usually I end up with Sandy assisting me with my nail fills. Truly both are top notch. I used to go to a smaller salon but it was always so hard to get in and get an appointment. I'm going to knock them down a star based on my couple of experiences. I am not too much of a pampered person type so when I do get out to do the nail thing I like to do the full bill. I came in and got sat right away with a nice viet gent. I would say that I liked him a lot; he was super affable, chatty, and gave a great massage. Things that stood out: -Didn't put on a clear base coat -Didn't put two coats of the color -Didn't put on a top coat -There were color gaps at the edges around the toe Also, the color chipped right away. I love how my nails turned out but the reason I'm doing two stars is because their nail light that is supposed to dry your nails burned my skin off! They had me under the light for awhile and i noticed my hands getting hot and asked if i was done, they told me a few more minutes. I figured it was just "hott" from the bulb and not actually frying my skin. For 2 days i couldn't move my hands or type without it hurting and now 3 weeks later my skin is peeling off. Yesterday 9/20 my fiancé took me to get a pedicure I had a technician who I've never had before, she wasn't very talkative. I don't think she used a clean file and I don't know if her tools in her pink pencil case were clean or not. Anyway she's getting ready to paint my toes and she takes her gloves off (mind you they have to wear gloves) and she's painting my left big toe and the way she was gripping my toe her nail was digging in the side of my toe. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE!! The absolute worst customer service. My friend went there yesterday the worker asked her gel or no gel. She said no gel. The worker continues to polish her nails and helped her over to the table to dry her nails. They forgot all about her and left her for 2 hrs before they checked her nails to see if they were dry, they were not! They leave her again and go back after another hour goes by, STILL wet! they leave her AGAIN and another hour goes by, and still wet. Someone please tell me why a nail salon doesn't know that if nails dont dry within the first hour or so they probably used the wrong polish! After 4 fucking long hours they finally realized "I put gel on, let me get the light " They leave my disabled friend who asked for help getting up and out of the chair BUT the worker walks away from her and leaves her. WORST SERVICE EVER. She told me about it later other wise I would have caused some shit with them... oh and get this... they gave no discount AND charged her for gel polish. read more

I went there today with a friend and she got a Manny Petty and I got a full acrylic set, the lady that was doing my nails she was super nice but she wasn't really talking to me she was talking to her other coworkers in their language, so I did a red with gold flakes set, there is red all over my skin underneath my nails there's a black stain on the bottom of my nail From the brush my friend the one I was doing the Manny Petty got burnt because of the wax it was too hot, she was telling me it was hurting so I had told the person I was doing her Manny Petty that he was hurting her he was like "oh I'm sorry" and he didn't even do anything to change it he kept on doing it he didn't turn down the water it was really hot, my full acrylics so it was $100 and it wasn't even exactly what I wanted and the nail tech was like in a big rush to finish it like she wasn't taking her time they were really busy but I still did give her a $10 tip but I mean I would never go back. read more

After getting to the place, they finished my manicure however, they only removed my friend's nail polish and left her. They did NOT DO HER NAILS, even after they were done with mine.
