I don't fish but support the hobby of my hubby and went to Tochterman's to purchase a gift card as a stocking stuffer. I was warmly greeted and helped quickly. I've been here a couple times with things that have nothing to do with fishing! I pick up my UPS packages here and the woman who has helped me has been very cheerful about it, even though I feel as if I'm interrupting. The last time I was there, I was looking for a windbreaker and also fishing line for bead weaving. The guy showed me the area where clothing was (and there were some beautiful items) and I ultimately settled on a simple $20 jacket that fit the bill perfectly. The fishing line was more difficult. I was looking for 6 pound line and settled on two different varieties. I found out the next day (from my beading teacher) that I got the wrong stuff. Returning them was easy. The worker realized that he'd seen fishing line for beading at Michael's and thought I should try that. The store is an amazing homage to fishing with historical photos and artifacts besides being stuffed with more equipment than one could want. read more

I just bought my first rod and reel here, and I am really impressed with the service I got. I let the salesman know what was looking for, and he spent about 30 minutes setting me up and explaining the equipment and how to use it. Plus, he was really good with my hyper 4 year old son. Let me preface this by saying that I know absolutely nothing about fishing. I just wanted to go inside because of the cool neon sign they have hanging over the place. The people seemed friendly and it was like walking into a canyon of fishing rods and tackle. I confess upfront I know nothing about fishing and I have no intention of ever going. That being said, if you need anything related to fishing, this place is great. Its been in business for over 90 years and is still family owned. They are very helpful to experts and novices alike. I went in twice so far. Once with someone who was an expert fisherman and he said they really have an outstanding selection and taught him something about some sort of rigging. The second time I went with my friend who wanted to take her kids fishing. They pointed her to a local tournament, helped her buy rods that were $50 cheaper than what we saw at Dick's, rigged them up and gave her tips on how to cast for the kids. Dee Tochterman was there and she was hilarious and apparently some sort of internationally known worm whisperer. Very Baltimore type personality. They have apparently tried to get her on tv for a show and she won't do it because she wants to give good service to her existing customers, but you can totally see how she, and the store, would make a great tv show ala Pawn Stars. read more

I normally never do this, but I have to stop and give a shout out to Tochterman's Fishing Tackle. This past weekend I had A manufacturing default in something I purchased from the store, so i called them Tochtermans and they asked me to bring it in. Without hesitation they took the product back, and within 20 minutes I was walking out of the store with not only a brand new product but an upgraded one due to the inconvenience. The level of service that this small business offers has far exceeded my expectation and they have made me a customer for life. Fishing Gear, Sunglasses, Apparel, Tips and tricks, this place is amazing. Its no wonder they have been in business for over 100 years. I sent my reel in for repair. when i received the reel back the drag knob did not click anymore. I was told the part would be ordered. I was strung along for 45 days waiting for a part that was probably never ordered. i spoke with the owner and was told to order the part myself .they had nothing to do with the drag knob not working anymore. that is BS. i use to like this place ... Tony, Dee and the entire staff are genuine people that know everything there is to know about fishing and make your experience like no other. As a man that recently took an interest in fishing and wants to expose his young son, Tochterman's makes it easy. They are patient and have no problem teaching my son and I something new each time we stop in. My son now loves fishing and Tochterman's and ask to stop in each time we drive past the store (and we live less than a mile away). So you know how genuine the team at Tochterman's is..... My son and I stopped in this week... Brought a new rod and some other stuff we didn't need but had to have and when I got to the counter realized I left my wallet at home....
