I suggested he call them because I had such a positive experience and then realized I have only been sharing that with friends and family instead of in formal review. I was lucky enough to be Thor's solo student during my sessions and he did everything possible to make me comfortable. All of the skills were very personalized and he is very experienced and knowledgeable. Even more important, he was an excellent teacher. He was very patient and was quick to repeat skills that I misunderstood or was struggling with. The scuba world is very male dominated, but I was never the only female in the pool nor was I ever made to feel less capable than the male students doing a refresher course. Thor made the skills fun and he was meticulous about making sure I understood and could safely execute each one. I cannot recommend the shop or Thor enough to anyone starting out, but especially to women entering the water.

YAY Scuba diving courses was an enjoyable experience for my 11 year old son. My son was anxious and Thor's encouraging teaching style allowed my son to learn, feel confident and do well in this course. By the end of the class, my son had so much fun and I felt comfortable with course. I highly recommend taking classes with YAY Scuba diving. We will be back for the next level of scuba diving classes in the spring!

They offer kayaks (single and tandem), paddleboards, and more. For $25, I rented a single kayak for an hour and enjoyed exploring some more of the Hammerman beach shoreline and the bay. (You can rent for longer than a hour as well, but that's all I had time for yesterday!) You have to pay to enter the park itself ($3 for state residents, $5 for out of state residents), but you can enjoy the park and then also rent a kayak or a paddleboard! Great way to explore some of the bay!

Prices on their website looked very reasonable so we decided to give it a try. Renting a Hobie Cat from here is extremely easy. I had to pass a quick check out and then it was $40 to rent a Hobie Wave for an hour. There's no setup required, you just push it off of the beach and you're good to go. I'd never sailed a catamaran before but they are fun little boats and the Gunpowder River is a very nice area to tool around in. One thing that I wish Eastern would do is make their website/facebook page a little more helpful. The first time we tried to do a cat rental we came here on a Friday evening, only to learn that they only rent the Hobies on Saturdays and Sundays. I'd tried calling their phone number a couple of times as well but it always went straight to voicemail. I'm glad that I discovered them though and my wife and I are already discussing getting a season pass next summer. Edit: Within a few minutes of my review posting I was contacted by the owner to check what phone numbers I had called. Apparently they also do rent the Hobies during weekdays in September this year, not sure what the source of the confusion there was. Still, I was extremely impressed by the prompt response and attention to good customer service.

She hadn't been diving in a while and I knew I needed to practice skills like air sharing that I hadn't done in years, so we signed up for a two hour evening class. Mike, the owner/instructor did a great job and came off as very competent while still keeping things relaxed. The rental equipment was in good shape and seemed much newer and better taken care of than most of the rental gear I've used in the past. I'd unhesitatingly recommend Aqua Ventures for someone who wants to learn to dive or needs to update their skills.
