After a (really) short hike and reading my book on the beach for a while, I wandered down the beach…read moreto the Eastern Watersports rental tent! They offer kayaks (single and tandem), paddleboards, and more. For $25, I rented a single kayak for an hour and enjoyed exploring some more of the Hammerman beach shoreline and the bay. (You can rent for longer than a hour as well, but that's all I had time for yesterday!) You have to pay to enter the park itself ($3 for state residents, $5 for out of state residents), but you can enjoy the park and then also rent a kayak or a paddleboard! Great way to explore some of the bay!

How is it that after all my years in Baltimore I just learned about this place? My wife and I have…read morebeen looking for new outdoor activities during the summer of COVID and while exploring Hammerman beach we saw Eastern. Prices on their website looked very reasonable so we decided to give it a try. Renting a Hobie Cat from here is extremely easy. I had to pass a quick check out and then it was $40 to rent a Hobie Wave for an hour. There's no setup required, you just push it off of the beach and you're good to go. I'd never sailed a catamaran before but they are fun little boats and the Gunpowder River is a very nice area to tool around in. One thing that I wish Eastern would do is make their website/facebook page a little more helpful. The first time we tried to do a cat rental we came here on a Friday evening, only to learn that they only rent the Hobies on Saturdays and Sundays. I'd tried calling their phone number a couple of times as well but it always went straight to voicemail. I'm glad that I discovered them though and my wife and I are already discussing getting a season pass next summer. Edit: Within a few minutes of my review posting I was contacted by the owner to check what phone numbers I had called. Apparently they also do rent the Hobies during weekdays in September this year, not sure what the source of the confusion there was. Still, I was extremely impressed by the prompt response and attention to good customer service.

Is it worth the 1.5 hour drive? Yes. Does this facility need…read morean upgrade? Yes. The things we liked about it: It was a lot of fun, water was clean, floats were large and varied with lots of different activities for the kids to do for all ages, plenty of shade and picnic tables, and beach loungers available. The things we didn't like: Bathhouse was gross, snack shack is unreliable-make sure you bring your own food, grounds were unkempt. If you pay for the observer fee, you're not allowed on the dock. I thought this was unfair. I wasn't going in the water, just wanted to take some photos, but they wouldn't allow it. I did have a life jacket on. With the exception of paddleboard yoga, they are open to organized groups only. We came with our Girl Scout troop. Guppy Gulch is not open to the public. As of August 2023: Pricing: $27/day for swimmers; $10/day for non-swimmers; $10/night per person overnight camping. Check-in begins at 9:30am; the water opens at 10am and the last horn blows at 4:45pm. Overall we had a fun day, but this facility needs a major facelift especially for the rest rooms. The port a potty was cleaner than the bathhouse, enough said!

They have so many water activities, from the blob to slide to zip line and multiple floating obstacle course. It really reminds me of the show Wipeout. The water is like a turquoise blue color and was a comfortable temperature. I will say that if you are over the age of 25, you will have to use some strategy, upper body strength and determination to pull yourself up on the activities! Life vests (provided) are a must and I would strongly recommend wearing water shoes. The staff had the place very organized and were happy to answer any questions. PS - This is in the middle of no where!
