Honestly may be the best food in Riverdale and tied for first best Mexican I've had in the States. I don't even know where to begin. Be sure you try all the salsas and if there's mole, do it. Our server was fantastic and very enthusiastic about the food and telling us a little narrative about the place. Decor is minimalist but not pretentious, buzzy but not too loud. Smells really good in there, too. Food definitely has a kick to it. I want this place on NY's top 100, but I also want to keep it a hidden gem. They claim the menu changes very regularly and most ingredients come from Mexico (I think). Best mezcal I've ever sipped and they'll gladly tell you all about it and where it comes from (same with any item on the menu...if you're a nerd like me and want to learn about the place). Definitely check it out. Not cheap, but you so get what you pay for. read more

Very aesthetically pleasing environment and food! I love how they take you to tulum and transport you. With their lovely plates and dishes feels like you're eating off an art piece. Now the food is amazing! I had lamb tacos and I felt in heaven! It wasn't too spicy and had the right amount of flavors and aromas. The mezcal was also amazing, very Smokey. Overall great experience. Food, staff everything. Only thing I will say is the seating is very slow. We waited 1 hour for a table when it wasn't busy. But other than that I think they were worth the wait. THE BEST MARGARITA I'VE EVER HAD!! My friend and I each also had a Michelada, which was delicious as well. We shared two appetizers, guacamole and a mole dish, each which was fresh and tasty. This restaurant was trendy and chic. We were pleasantly surprised when our coats were checked for free at the door. Our server was extremely kind and helpful. She walked us through the menu and answered any questions we had and gave great recommendations. Had a free night with my wife and we walked into town to try a Mexican restaurant that I heard wonderful things about. It didn't disappoint in any way. From start to finish was on of the best NY dining experiences I ever had. From making the reservation to the end it was five starts. The food and service was not to believed. No reason to search any further than this for a very special meal and evening. Easily and happily accommodated our vegetarian and no shellfish requirements with a smile and acknowledgement. This venue features beautiful ambiance, which is brilliantly balanced between elegance and intimacy. The semi-tapas menu is precisely edited for customers to "nosh" without being overwhelmed by choices. This is not to negate the cuisine! For example, the guacamole is out of this world! Seated at the cozy yet lively bar, I was able to watch the chefs work their magic at the open kitchen. The cocktail selection is fascinating. I found myself fixated, while Adolfo, our extremely knowledgable bartender, explained the intricacies of Mezcal tequila, their featured spirit that defines this restaurant. Went to Tobalá yesterday and I'm a big fan of Mexican food, Mexican restaurant are always my number 1 so I know the menus. However, after visiting and having experience in other Mexican restaurant with the same menu as Tobalá, I can say that Tobalá food was missing flavor and the fact that the salsas were not enough, I got disappointed. I tried the fish tacos, good amount but didn't come with flavor at all. Had the exquites and it was too dry. Also, ordered the pulpo and it was overcook . The drinks were good and the services as well. I just feel they need to work on their flavors and prices. The location and the plates they offer which they don't have nothing new compared to other Mexican restaurants, I believe it's too expensive! This is a honest review from someone who has experienced 15+ Mexican Restaurants around the NYC and they need to reconsider and rework on prices and flavor ! read more

Can't describe how much I love it here. Since the first opened, their concept was different and with every change in the menu, everything just gets better. The chef is amazing and very talented, service is always outstanding (love me some Ines), the bartenders make the best Mezcal margaritas I've ever had and the food is delicious.
