"Pork Katsu" with Korean curry dipping sauce.
    Kenji K.

I was wandering around looking for a place to have dinner, and no places around North Road seemed appetizing to me in the moment. Tobagi's grand opening banner with "K-bowls and chicken" appealed to me, although the exterior was unremarkable. After browsing at all the Burnaby-side restaurants, I finally braved myself to walk into the unknown restaurant. I ordered the Jjolmyeon ("Chilled Chewy Spicy Noodles") and Pork Katsu combo, as well as the "rice cakes with three sauces". The jjolmyeon was chilly, delicious and, well, very chewy. I think jjolmyeon is one of my new favourite Korean dishes. The pork katsu (cutlet) was delicious as well, and went well with the bowl of curry, albeit the curry tasted overly sweet, or something of that nature, for my tastes. I wouldn't think of granulated sugar as a sauce, but there it was--one of the three sauces alongside honey and a sweet chilli sauce. The honey tasted the best with the deep-fried rice cakes, but this dish reminded me that I prefer panfried rice cakes (tteokbokki) the most! The rice cakes were likely boiled, as they were tender inside the somewhat crunchy exterior. I think I'll avoid deep-fried foods like these in the future... except for tonkatsu and tempura. The service was good, the restaurant is clean and organized. The washroom is a bit out of the way, but it is of no consequence. Lastly, the music is at a tastefully not-too-loud volume. 3.5/5, rounding up to 4. I may come back for some Jjolmyeon and try some other things.

Plenty of beef slices and enoki mushroom. I really have to recommend this dish. Also had a pile of their skewers. Taiwanese sausage, chicken gizzard, and 2 flavours of wings. Not the cheapest, but similar in pricing to the competition. Everything got gobbled up. Delicious. Honestly I wish more people knew about this place. I think the only thing stopping them is the rather "bad" (not too visible) location. The 5 star rating for dinner remains.

The second time there were clams and lamb neck? The things that were the same: tomato egg, dumplings, steamed baos, chineze fried donut, and cold dishes like bean sprouts, smashed cucumbers, tea egg, tofu dessert. They also have hot soy milk for drinks. Their deep fried chinese donut has got to be the best I've ever had in my life. With the price of a pair of fried donut being over $6 these days, I get my fix here. Other things are standard, good but not outstanding. I really like having soy milk to drink instead of water. $18.88 is getting a little steep for a limited choice buffet with not too many meat choices. The crab/clam are a nice addition but if there are days without it, it wouldn't be worth. I would rate the food from this place higher than the similar chinese lunch box style place in richmond, K squared mansion.

Lots of beers on tap, but it's a pretty uninteresting list of beers for beer geeks, with mostly common, lower tier quality locals; however, most people will find plenty to choose from here. The bottle selection is alright too, with some nice Belgian Trappist beers. I stopped in for lunch one day, noticing that they had some vegan[-izable] options. Their dan dan noodles can be made vegan by omitting the pork (and substituting Beyond Meat sausage) and omitting the egg. So that's what I got ($15.50 + $2 for the sausage, plus tax). It's not very authentic, but you don't come to a Belgian tapas bar for authentic dan dan noodles. It was a solid noodle dish, seasoned nicely, with a good amount of bok choy, mushrooms, and onions. The peppery Beyond Meat sausage was an excellent addition. The dish wasn't spicy at all, so that's the only minor complaint I have about this. Good portion and reasonably priced. Very friendly, attentive service. I'm sure I'll be back when on campus. Recommended for both the beer and food when at SFU.

There's free parking outside, just register your license plate when you enter the building. I went with 2 other friends on a Saturday night. The place was pretty full but we got lucky and only had wait a few minutes for a table. It was decently loud inside but it was still easy to have a conversation. The waitress we got was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. I'm also super envious of her memory because there's no way I can remember who had which drink without writing it down for so many tables throughout the night!!! My friend also asked for a drink recommendation for the last round and she gave a great one. There's a lot of selection for drinks, as well as food. I really like their shared plates of finger food like tater tots and onion rings. My fish and chips were also very good. The table beside us ordered nachos and it looked huge and very delicious.

Aside from the time warp location, the food is easily 4*s, and honestly, I'd say it's better than White Spot as a comparable. The clubhouse sandwich contained actual turkey breast, not the deli turkey breast slices a lot of places use. That's an easy win right there. Very reasonable pricing to boot! It's basically a sports bar/pub grub menu set up. Pool tables as well. Lighting is on the darker side, with friendly and courteous service. They chat with you since they're curious as to how you know about the place. It's definitely not on too many peoples' radar for sure. They seem to like their hockey, as there are a couple of jerseys hanging. Guy Lafleur, Paul Henderson's autographed jersey from the Summit Series 1972, and a couple of others. Located in the basement of the Lougheed Village Mall, which is literally the Land that Time Forgot. I'm not exaggerating. Come and have a look for yourself. Free validated parking if you eat here. Recommend that you go for a stroll in the upper and lower levels and the courtyard whilst you're here. Maybe come in the evening during Halloween. You won't need to spook yourself out at a graveyard. This mall will suffice you plenty.
