I went to Toast in Norfolk for a holiday party and it ended up being such a fun spot! The space is small but really cute, which made the whole night feel cozy and easygoing rather than overly formal. The food spread was honestly great. There were tons of appetizers to snack on throughout the night. Hummus and pita, charcuterie, chips with salsa and queso, all the good, crowd pleasing stuff done well. Everything was fresh and easy to grab, which worked perfectly for a party setting. The best part by far was the taco bar. I had the beef tacos and they were seriously some of the best tacos I've had in a while. The beef was super flavorful and cooked perfectly, and I definitely went back for more than one. You know it's good when everyone keeps circling back for seconds. Even though I was there for a private event, I really liked the vibe of the place. It feels like somewhere you could easily pop in with friends, grab a drink, and hang out without it feeling stuffy or rushed. I only had wine, so I haven't tried their cocktails yet, but that's definitely next on my list. If the food is any indication, I'm sure the drinks won't disappoint. This is a great spot for events, but also seems like a solid go-to for a laid-back night out. I'll definitely be back!

No notes here, just amazing food and a cozy family dining room feel here. I'd love to come back next time and try the shrimp and grits, because I ordered a side of them and they were INCREDIBLE! Never had grits that creamy. Portions are a decent size and the service was friendly. The cafe Au Lait is delicious but be warned it is very sweet!

My fiance and I went here for brunch and came out of it ready to take a nap. The bowl that I got was really tasty and so filling, and my fiance got a unique spin of french toast sandwiching thick bacon pieces with syrup and really tasty gravy (ask your server if they know about this, it's the bomb!). The drinks were also very good. My lemonade and his nitro coffee was well made. The space is on the smaller side. It has a bar in the middle, but not a lot of seating indoors. Although the place has outdoor seating, there is no covering/awning so you're pretty much exposed to rainy/cold weather--at least when we saw it. If you do choose to sit inside and it gets really busy, it can get quite crammed. But on slower days, it's a cozy place to be! The building is tucked in and almost kind of hidden, so it gives a little bit of privacy from the busy streets of Norfolk. The parking right outside the building is very limited and tight, so you might have to do some street parking on their busier days. The waitress we had was very friendly and personable. It was a very chill brunch experience all around!

What a very funky and cool place for brunch (and possibly more, but we were there for brunch). The service was top-notch, the food was great, and the brunch cocktails were very good. The neighborhood isn't particularly attractive, but Toast has done a great job with the landscaping and decor. It feels a bit like an 'oasis' from fairly drab surroundings. Wish we'd taken pics of the food and drinks to share them, but we were having to much fun chatting with our friends. Highly recommend this place!

Another solid brunch experience close to home. Good service, yummy food, and a drink made for my wife just the way she likes it (and how she describes me) -- sweet and strong! Carnitas w grits was fab (repeat performance). Wide enjoyed the Avacado toast. We sat at the bar to avoid waiting for conventional seating but lost nothing experience-wise.

Hash Hash'n Beans Bowl (left) SOS Plate Brunch (right) Kids waffle (back left corner)

The hash bowl was very heavy and a large portion. If it has a little less sauce it would be easier to stomach all in one sitting SOS plate was yummy. A little salty but overall delicious We sat inside and we still had a lot of flies and no way to keep them away. The temperature was warm but not intolerable. Service was great.

I absolutely love this place. The staff are so friendly and helpful. You are greeted immediately upon entering. It's not a very large place but there's seating right outside with additional seating out back. It's a good thing they have so much space because they are always packed. I tend to get the same thing when I go because to me it's total perfection. Their chili and hash bowl is comfort food at its finest. This time around I also tried their homemade pop tart. What a treat!!! All those flaky layers and the perfect amount of sweetness leaves you wanting more. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You will definitely be very happy.

Spicy Bloody Maria

The Spicy Bloody Maria is THE WAY TO GO if you're a big bloody mary fan. All the garnishes are pickled perfectly and go very well with the cocktail. The breakfast food and sandwiches are all very good too. I highly recommend coming here for the Sunday brunch. Usually, the service is decently fast if you sit at the bar, and all the bartenders/waiters/waitresses are very nice. Every year, they love doing 12 Nights of Old Fashioneds in December for the holiday season, and it is POPPING from 7-11pm here. They share their parking lot with perro blanco, if there are no spots, street parking is encouraged. They also sell/use the lupo hot sauce form perro blanco, which is a great hot sauce I recommend putting on top of the eggs or eating with tater tots.

City Slicker Sandwich with spring mix side salad

The first time I went I was a bit underwhelmed but I recently went a second time with a much better experience! The menu has a lot of options, the service is friendly, and an earthy, refined space where hipster creativity meets hippie soul, all in a chill, inviting atmosphere. I got the City Slicker sandwich and the French toast bread pudding, both were yummy! The sandy reheats well the next day for breakfast too. (The rewards program has a nice birthday perk, yall) They have a bar but I don't drink, but would recommend for a bite to eat, a place to chill indoors or outdoors in nice weather, alone or with friends.

Went on a Thursday. We were the only ones in there for a while. The service was okay. I ordered a whiskey sour and the waitress didn't give me an opportunity to pick my options of whiskey brand. Even though they were listed on the menu. It was like she was in a hurry. But we were the only ones in there. She did the same thing with the check. Just seemed to rush and seemed annoyed. The food was good. Very different, but good. We were there for dinner but will go back and try their brunch one day.

Franklyn K.

Very good service and the food was excellent. The service was great and very pleasant atmosphere

Quiche and tots. Yes that's an old fashioned in the background. Don't judge.

There's now a security table/desk where the DJ booth used to be; definitely wasted space where more tables and chairs could've been added instead. Had to stand for about 10 mins before some people finally left then we had to like "hurry" to get the seats before anyone else got them. We needed an extra chair at our table and went up to the security to ask if he knew where anymore could be or if we could borrow the one that was behind his table since he seemed to only be standing all night, but he responded kind of harsh with a stern "NO"....def unnecessary. Even though he was rude, the bartenders were the opposite, making funny light conversation and friendly while we ordered and waited for our drinks. The atmosphere was a nice, chill, and intimate vibe, with red/orange lighting. To drink: I tried the Saturn (8/10) it was pretty good, I liked the flavor, but there really didn't seem to be much alcohol in it fr. To eat: we ordered a Margherita Pizza and added Pepperoni (10/10) it was fresh, flavorful, and all around really good. There were hints of spice in the sauce that really added to the flavors. Their pizza seems to be a popular menu item as I seen pizza boxes on almost every table throughout the night. Def will be back again, but next time, we're going to get there early, so we can have a table for the night. Looked like once people secured themselves a table in here, they held it all night long and never moved / left till closing. My overall rate of experience : 7.5/10

The restaurant was fairly empty, with only three other tables occupied, so we were surprised by the length of the wait. Our two canned Sapporos didn't arrive until about 30 minutes after ordering. The shrimp sandwich took approximately 45 minutes, and the Vang rolls arrived after about an hour. After waiting an hour, we were informed that the garlic shrimp for our garlic noodles was unavailable, despite it being part of our original order. Unfortunately, the Vang rolls were so salty that we couldn't finish them. Throughout the meal, our water glasses were never refilled, and there was little communication about the delays or unavailable menu items. After roughly 90 minutes of waiting, multiple delays, and learning that several items were unavailable, we decided to pay for what we had received the two Sapporos, the shrimp sandwich, and the Vang rolls, which came to about $70. Perhaps we visited on an off night, but the combination of the slow service, poor communication, unavailable menu items, and disappointing food quality made for a frustrating experience. The vibe here is bright and welcoming, with funky decor and friendly staff who clearly love what they do. To start, we ordered the Pickle de Gallo with chips. If you're a pickle lover, this is a must order appetizer. The combination of tart, crunchy pickles with traditional pico flavors is super unique and unexpectedly addictive. I couldn't stop dipping. For our mains, my friend went with the Chicken Tinga bowl. It's packed with rice, black beans, tender chicken tinga, onion, cilantro, queso fresco, cabbage, plus a blend of roja and blanca salsas. He seemed to enjoy it, and loved how the chicken was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, and all the toppings kept every bite interesting without overpowering the rest of the bowl. I went with the Chimichurri Bowl special, and it was equally fantastic. The chimichurri sauce was herby and bright. Perfect on top of the rice and protein. Every ingredient tasted super fresh, and you can tell they put effort into balancing the textures and flavors. We paired our food with drinks: I had a glass of wine (always nice to see wine on a taqueria menu!) and my friend tried the Paloma, which was refreshing and citrusy, not overly sweet. Perro Blanco nails it with creative food, great drinks, and top-notch service. If you're looking for something new and delicious in a laid-back setting, you need to check this place out. Friendly, attentive service without being overbearing is always appreciated, and she struck that balance perfectly. My wife ordered the Red Curry Bowl with blackened chicken, baby bok choy, radishes, carrots, green onions, cilantro, and rice noodles in a rich red curry coconut broth. This dish was both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the broth was flavorful without being overpowering, and the generous portion made for a hearty meal. In fact, there was simply too much to finish, which is rarely something to complain about. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose The Richmond, a fried chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese, bacon, jalapeños, Mike's Hot Honey, spicy aioli, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun, served with fresh-cut fries. The chicken itself was excellent, and the fries were crispy, fresh, and plentiful. Where the sandwich lost me was in its identity. There was so much happening between the pimento cheese, spicy aioli, bacon, jalapeños, and hot honey that each ingredient seemed to compete with the others rather than complement them. Somewhere along the way, it crossed the Rubicon from a Nashville hot chicken sandwich into something entirely different. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It simply wasn't for me. I finished it, and I certainly didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't order it again. Sometimes restraint is the better part of culinary creativity, and I think this sandwich would benefit from letting one or two of its ingredients take center stage instead of asking them all to share the spotlight. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Good food, generous portions, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make Craft on Colley a place we'll happily return to.
