The first time I stopped here I left because they didn't offer a la carte tacos and I wasn't in the mood for a meal. The second time was better because I had the time to sit down and enjoy my food. I was greeted upon entry and treated like a queen for my entire duration. My needs were anticipated and my server delivered. This is a great place to dine alone, with friends, on a date, having a gathering, etc. There is plenty of space as well as a couple of private rooms and outdoor patio area. On the day I visited. The guacamole, although fresh, definitely needed some work, first I had to finish mashing it myself as there was still some big chunks of avocado in it, second, it had absolutely no spice whatsoever it tasted just like avocado, squashed up and nothing else. Not worth $12 The jalapeño margarita was good but small and pricey $15 and very disappointing they don't offer pitchers. Outstanding Mexican food. Truly, some of the best Mexican food I've eaten in Indiana so far. And Tlahcos is located in Plainfield, of all places. What a pleasant surprise! I got the quesa birria tacos, which is shredded beef and melted cheese in a double corn tortilla. They come three to an order, with a cup of red consomme to dip them into, and a couple of lime wedges to squeeze over everything. They do not come with any sides, so I ordered the refried pinto beans and carrot rice, because I really wanted some rice and beans. Beans and rice are my litmus test of any Mexican restaurant, and I'm happy to say that the rice and beans at Tlahcos passed the test with flying colors, and they are sublime. I don't practice Santeria, but perhaps the people at Tlahcos do, because their food is bewitching. The carne asada was also ordered, and it came with grilled nopales (cactus), cebollita canbray (little onions), grilled panela cheese, plus guacamole, salsa, rice and black beans. It was a 98%, and what would have raised it to a 100% was if it came with tortillas. But really, it was a great dish! If you're a person who is used to eating carne asada on a regular basis, you will be satisfied with this one. Chips and salsa are complimentary, which shows that Tlahcos knows its Plainfield-area visitors. My children, who eat like birds, filled themselves up on chips and salsa and declined a full meal, but Tlahcos does have a kids menu. On the kids menu, you'll find arroz con pollo, mini cheese quesadillas, a taco, mac & cheese, chicken nuggets and a mini pizza. Kid meals come with your choice of side, which are fries, rice & beans or a cup of fruit. They have a full cocktail list, as well as beer, wine and hot beverages (coffee and tea). I got a Paloma, which was a little light on the booze, but tasty nevertheless. The rim of the glass was beautifully decorated with Tajin, which added a nice, spicy kick. After reading all the great reviews I really wanted to like this place but I was just kind of let down. I started with a side salad and Horchata - the horchata was a little bland and I would've liked a stronger cinnamon flavor. The salad was actually pretty good and priced well for the portion. I also ordered the ceviche that had kiwi - it was sweet and spicy. I found it odd that it was in a syrupy sauce. I'm used to ceviche being in straight lime juice. This is the third time coming to Tlhacos. I have always been impressed with the food and love the atmosphere. Customer service has been exceptional on all of my visits. The drinks are great. I have had the Birria tacos, the guacamole, the refried beans, and black beans, as well as multiple food options. Seriously, I have taken clients here as well as family. My most recent experience was still great, but there are two items I would never order off the menu. Let's look at the good and bad of these items: Baja Fish Tacos- I was looking for the cabbage-filled delicacies that are light but flavorful. What I received appeared to be small fish sticks stuck into a tortilla. The cabbage and sauce were tasty, but they could not mask the main cause of the tacos' failure: the fish. Do not order these. Ceviche Yucatan- looking for flavor with the light ceviche? That is not what this is. This is a large portion of ceviche dressed in a sweet sauce that completely overpowers it. Not even sure that you can call it a ceviche at this point. But the portion was good, and the ceviche ingredients looked fresh. Otherwise, we had the house guac, which was so so good, the birria tacos, which were amazing with the sauce as usual, the fundido, which was flavorful cheese and chorizo, as well as the Zapopan, which was a wonderful fusion of mango and spice (who knew bacon in this would be great). Housemade Horchata is great, not too sweet and flavorful as well as the Rita margarita! GREAT. What a cute and upscale restaurant in Plainfield! Service was great too - very hospitable. There's a lot of space and seating inside and there is a small patio for outdoor seating. The food was good as well - I got the arroz con pollo and it was full of flavor and the right amount of cheese, I would have added just a little bit of spice to it though. I do wish I would have added a side of fajita veggies - that would have give it a kick. I also like how we got our own bowl of salsa with the chips! My friends ordered the birria tacos and the Plainfield burrito, they both liked their meals as well. Solid aztecan style Mexican place just outside Indianapolis! Everything we ate was solid including the flora di Pina which is served inside half a pineapple. Had a delicious dinner following a show nearby. It's a very convenient location when visiting the Hendrix Live venue. A parking garage allows convenient parking for both. Several co-workers recommended this spot as an upscale, Mexican restaurant they thought I would love, so my husband and I stopped in a for a date night. We were not disappointed! We came on a weeknight when it wasn't super busy. Their cocktails have fresh fruit in them and are full of flavor + have gorgeous, vibrant hues. We split the queso fundido as an app with our first round of drinks and loved every bite. I ordered the flor de pina and it was loaded with tons of shrimp, steak, and chicken. All of the flavors were amazing and everything was perfectly cooked. Not one over-done piece of protein or any dry bites to be found. My husband ordered the quesa birria tacos and loved his meal, too. The meat was so tender and flavorful. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and made sure we always had drink + chip refills. The interior is nicely decorated and has a lot of pretty, ambient lighting. For a party of three, we got one little bowl of watery salsa and a basket of tortilla chips to share. Service was attentive at first, but became excruciating slow towards the end of the meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so we assumed our server was doing end-of-shift tasks in the kitchen. I got the shrimp tacos and they were fine. The salsa verde that comes with them is pretty bland. I instead ordered the roasted habanero salsa, which was spicy and flavorful - the star of the show. I would go back just for that salsa but nothing else really stood out. The decor inside is different and fun which brings with it an upscale atmosphere. We have driven by many times and finally decided to give it a try. I had higher expectations for the food given the high prices but sadly I was not impressed and left feeling like I "wasted" my night out on a meal that was sub-par. We ordered the "Dip de Queso Jalapeno" which says it's a jalapeno cheese dip that brings bolds flavors. The queso was a basic tasting queso; there were no bold or jalapeno flavors and the bottom of the bowl had chunks of cheese that hadn't melted. The chips and house salsa was never refilled. Tuesday is $5 off of a margarita but it only applies to the house margarita (not their muddled options). It was a basic margarita, nothing outstanding but a simple staple. My friend ordered the entree "Alambre" solely based on the description that it was "generously smothered in melted cheese." When it arrived, there was a small area with cheese. It was neither generous OR smothered. I decided to try tacos as those should be a stand out staple at any mexican/latin restaurant. The Thalupas Lokas were basic ground beef tacos that quite honestly, Taco Bell does better on their dollar menu. It did say that "the flour tortilla embraces a hard corn shell" and when I have ordered tacos like that at other locations, there is usually cheese or a seasoning between the two, to elevate the taste and hold them together. This was not the case as the hard shell was just sitting on the soft shells (which were also overheated and crunchy). There was no salsa included which left the dish bland as the meat was not well seasoned. I did substitute the refried beans with a second portion of rice. The rice was well cooked and seasoned; seemingly the only thing well seasoned. There are other restaurants in Hendricks county that have phenomenal food for the price and sadly, that is not the case for Tlahcos. read more

Plainfield is really upping its game ! Wow, this place is awesome. Contemporary ambiance with some hip tunes greet you upon walking in. The food is highly elevated Mexican fare with amazing presentation and even more taste. I ordered some kind of plate consisting of steak, chorizeo, bacon, onion and cheese. Lots of flavor there and boosted by the spicy house salsa. I really loved the beans on the side. Soooo good. I could eat a whole plate of just those. I've probably made beans from scratch 100 times...I cant get them to taste this good. I'd love to be an intern for a day and have them teach me =) Service was prompt and friendly. My wife and I decided to stop in here for my birthday and was not disappointed at all! To start when you walk into this place the ambiance is amazing! Modern, cute drapery, awesome seats. Overall great feel. Then we got the standard chips and got a salsa trio with the queso fondito. All of which was very authentic, high scale and tasted amazing! Second trip to Tlahcos and we were looking forward to it. First trip we had tacos. They were fine. This time we both ordered the Alambre which consists of sautéed chicken, peppers, onion and bacon. It comes with beans and rice. Found out later it was to have apparently a small serving of spicey Xalapa salsa but the cup was empty. The chicken, peppers, onion and bacon are served mixed coated with a fairly tasteless melted cheese. The chicken, there was a lot of it, a mix of light and dark, was a bit chewy and tasted marinated. The bacon was not crispy but limp and under cooked, also in small pieces. The ingredients had sort of congealed in a watery mass. There was very little seasoning on any of the food including the beans and rice. The complimentary chips were a bit stale and the accompanying salsa bland. The service was pretty good. This was at lunch and not too busy but only saw one server and he did a decent job. Really like the location and ambience here but the regular chef must have been off today. Just be aware of the Alambre before ordering. read more

The table next to us had a larger party, sat after us, and received drinks, apps, and dinner before we did. Oh my gosh! What a gem in downtown Plainfield. I found the place as I needed somewhere near the Indy airport (15 minutes away). The ambiance and decor are stunning. There is a free parking garage next door. The food is next-level Mexican. Fresh and full of flavor. All four dishes we had and the salsa and chips were delicious. The only downside is that the water and tea glasses are small, and I had trouble getting help when the restroom was out of toilet paper. This upscale Mexican restaurant may be a little out of the way, but is so worth it. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant and one of my favorites overall and that's saying a lot. Everything is so fresh and different from what you find. Fabulous muddled margaritas Strawberry/raspberry, blue/blackberry, cucumber/mint - so good! Everything at the table looked great. Grilled meat and shrimp. I had the best elote I ever had and the Yucatán ceviche was amazing. Tons of fresh fruit, cucumbers and plump shrimp. I couldn't stop! Grilled steak, chicken, shrimp and bacon with cheese, rice and spices stuffed into sweet pineapple. That's what I'm having next. Or maybe their stellar brunch. The margaritas were gone in 5 sips (tiny glasses, full of ice) queso was very thin and the kids Mac n cheese had a mystery ingredient in it they we think was lime juice. They wouldn't touch it. Our server was inattentive throughout the meal. We sat for about 10 minutes with no chips to go with our queso and no water several times. When it was time to pay the server brought her portable POS device over and asked us to hand her a credit card and only showed us the tip screen. No bill in sight. She looked at us like we had 3 heads when we asked for a paper bill or to see our tab on her POS screen. We had a split table so we wanted to double check our tabs. This one will blow your socks off! We started with margaritas and the queso fundido. Both were absolutely delicious! I wish we hadn't started with the queso fundido though, only because I was too full for dinner, which was also amazing! BUT, my leftover lunch was delicious too, so it all worked out! I had the pork dish. I can't access the menu right now, but it was at the top of the menu and had a coconut sauce on it. This type of pork is often overdone in a restaurant but it was perfect, juicy, and just fell apart so easily. My husband had the molcajete and loved it. Our server asked how he wanted the steak cooked and it actually came cooked as requested, this is often overdone at other restaurants too. My mom had the Birria tacos and my step dad ordered a dish served in half of a pineapple. We all loved the rice and beans too! We truly loved this experience. I had the Arroz con Pollo and was delighted to see a huge portion with an abundance of Pollo on it. The chicken was grilled, nicely seasoned and not dry at all. Even the rice had some seasoning and it was covered in a lot of cheese. Just as it should be. This was truly the best version of this dish I ever had. So yes I will be back for more. We had a Sunday night dinner. The restaurant was not busy. We had an excellent meal. We started with the Guacamole dip along with the Chips N Salsa they brought. The Guac was fresh and had chunks of avocado. Everyone at the table enjoyed it. I had the house Rita with the Mezcal uptick. They brought a 1/2 shot of Mezcal on the side, which I added to the Rita. The Rita was excellent. I have the Monte Alban (?), which was very good. A touch on the dry side, which is a risk with chicken. The carrots and beans were excellent. It was served on a hot stone. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. The server had recommended the dish served in a pineapple, which our son raved about. The server was excellent. That was the worst restaurant experience ever. We waited forever for water and drinks, and then even longer for our food. I drank my soda and my husband's, and he eventually went inside to get a refill. My daughters and their friends, who were at a separate table, never even got water refills. When the food finally came out, we had to go inside to get our own silverware. Three of our six meals were inedible. When the waiter finally came back, he said they were having a mandatory staff meeting (on a Saturday evening, over an hour before closing!). When I asked him to take some money off the bill for the bad food and service (which I have NEVER done in my life), he said they couldn't once it was brought out. He was rude and told us to go ahead and leave a bad review. $150 for terrible service, food, and attitude. I plan on leaving bad reviews everywhere I can find to leave a review. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. This is more like Guadalajara beach resort - great dishes, imaginative food, served with class and full of flavor - totally worth the higher cost. We had the queso appetizer, but this is not the typical cup of white cheese - it's much more: textures, different flavors, real cheese served on a hot griddle and not soupy in a room temp cup.
