I can't say enough good things about El Toro Bravo South. After one visit, it immediately earned a spot on my list of favorite Mexican restaurants in Indy. From the moment we sat down, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and somehow mastered that perfect balance of checking in often without ever hovering. Those little things make such a difference, and she absolutely nailed it. I ordered the taco salad, and I know...it's "just" a taco salad. Except it wasn't. I've lost count of how many taco salads I've ordered around Indianapolis that arrived watery, bland, or completely lacking seasoning. This one was the complete opposite. Fresh ingredients, well-seasoned beef, creamy guacamole, crisp shell, and nothing turned soggy halfway through the meal. It honestly may still be my favorite taco salad in the city. We also ordered the fajitas, which came out sizzling hot with generous portions, and my frozen margarita was every bit as refreshing as it looked. The atmosphere deserves its own shoutout. There's a beautiful patio, a nice bar area if that's more your style, and while we were there, another table was celebrating a birthday. Instead of a quick song, the staff came out with a full-blown band! I'd never seen anything like it, and it made the whole restaurant feel festive and genuinely fun. Some restaurants check all the boxes. Great food, excellent service, fun atmosphere, and reasonable prices. This one does exactly that. 100/10. I'll happily keep coming back...again and again. read more

I recently checked out El Toro on Southport and had a really great experience. The chips and salsa came out fresh, and our servers were attentive and kept checking on us the whole time. I ordered the Manager's Special with steak, onions, and cheese sauce wrapped in a tortilla/quesadilla it comes with some lettuce, tomato, rice and sour cream but I just got the rice and sour cream, the food was delicious and full of flavor. The entire restaurant was clean and has a bright, energetic vibe. Someone happened to be celebrating a birthday while we were there, and the staff goes all out with a full song and drums. If you're looking for a spot to celebrate someone and you want that fun, high-energy attention, this is definitely the place to go. read more

We were sat right away. The waiter was really busy, I think he was the only one working the floor. The queso was unimpressive in size, quantity, taste. The Birria tacos were good but greasy. The sour cream enchiladas very creamy and had a good flavor. The beans and rice were meh. The salsa was very mild. read more

Food was good service was great for our party of 23 and separate checks he handled everything good til the food runner who looked to be a a manger started mixing up the orders but overall it's a nice little spot the bday celebration they do is top tier too read more

Ambiance was hype. Service was on time and steady! It was busy but never missed a beat. Food was on point!

Very good meal at El Toro South. I was greeted immediately upon walking in. I was waiting for my fried to arrive and I ordered the pineapple Patron margarita. It was unexpected as it was smoking when he poured it at the table, how fun! My friend arrived and she ordered an alcohol free pina colada. My marg was delicious. They brought chips and salsa out. I placed an order for chicken fajitas and my friend ordered the chimichanga. Everything was hot and fresh. They checked on us several times to ensure we did not need anything. I would recommend trying it! read more

I've been here a few times and everything I've had was great! My new favorite Mexican restaurant.

Excellent Mexican Restaurant! The chips and Salsa are very good. The salsa is spicier than many. The decor is Indianapolis based with a Mexican twist. Really sets a nice local Atmosphere. The service was excellent. She was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We got the veggie fajitas and the Chicken chimichanga. Bothe were excellent and large portions. With sides of rice and beans and mounds of lettuce, pico and guacamole. Fresh and tasty. read more

Had the lunch special with a burrito and tamale us beans. Portion sizes were very generous- probably the same amount you get for a dinner portion and the beans and burrito tasted pretty good. After having tamales in Arizona, I haven't found anything like it here in Indiana and these were also very different. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again - they seemed a little overcooked and were missing the fresh flavors I had before. A decent spot. Great service and an extensive menu. read more

I've ordered delivery a few times from this location and the downtown location but this was my first time dining in. It was super packed on a Friday night around 6pm. My friend was visiting from Chicago and she requested that we go here after I showed her some Instagram videos of the margarita flights complete with sparklers. The margarita flight was cool, but still fairly expensive for 4 margaritas so I'm not sure I would order again. The food is always consistently good. This time I had the flautas with rice, beans, and guacamole salad. I could not finish my whole plate, it's definitely a lot of food for the price. The music was great (a mix of 80's and 2000's) but it was incredibly loud. We had a hard time hearing the server and each other. This location used to be the Stacked Pickle and there's still some leftover remnants. We saw some guys carrying around tile samples when we came in so seems like they're planning more renovations soon. I'm sure I'll be back and there are plenty more good-looking things on the menu to try. read more

Food and service was excellent. Great atmosphere and good prices too. Which we had one closer to where we live!

As any Mexican restaurant, the menu is big and so are the portion sizes. My dinner was also my lunch next day. The salsa served with chips was pretty delicious. I had ordered taco salad and it was pretty good too. My friend had ordered one of their chicken "favorite" menu item. Was impressed to know that they marinate the meats for such dishes and she enjoyed her meal a lot. The place is pretty loud, just fyi. Ample private parking and easily accessible location. Waiting to go back try more food. read more

El Toro never disappoints me and if they do, they will make it RIGHT! I'm a returning customer and they know us. It's our favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is fresh and flavorful, the staff is so friendly, and the portions are generous. It's a great place for family dinners or a casual night out. I definitely recommend giving them a try... read more

My wife and I ordered takeout, it was out quick and tasted very good. Only reason I'm not giving them a 5 star is because I was charged $3.25 for wanting extra chips. I was fine with that and paying extra until I found out the size of what I was paying for lol. But overall not mention to complain about! read more

This was an experience. It definitely had a fun atmosphere. The service was a tad slow the day we went but overall the manager came over to speak to us. The food was "ok". It wasn't bad but was not necessarily something that was rememberable that I am eager to come back soon. read more

El Toro is my new go-to spot for my taco fix. This location hasn't been here that long but they are always busy. It sits in the old stacked pickle location and I think I overlooked it for several months because I'm always looking toward the left. The... everything at El Toro is tasty. From the Chips to the Molcajete to the margaritas. I haven't ordered a bad dish from here. The big burrito has a super light and crispy (grilled) tortilla. I've never had anything like it. Soooo good. The steak is delicious, the arroz con Pollo, the tacos, the shrimp. They don't do anything bad. Well...it's not bad by any stretch but the guacamole wasn't what I expected after everything else they do that so great. It's just okay. They also have a patio if you want to sit outside. read more

El Tori on the Southside has great service and food. The quesabirrias are my favorite here and the consumé is the best I have had in a while. The margaritas and alcohol selection contains a wide variety. The restaurant is also kid friendly however it can get very crowded and loud. It is not the best place for conversation at times due to the loud noise. In addition they also have a "drum line" for birthday celebrations featured in the video. I enjoy observing the drums and celebration but be prepared if dining here. read more

I was not expecting this! We were trying to go to the other texmex restaurant across the street (not naming names) but their wait was ridiculous, host was texting when we walked in, and we honestly were giving them a second redemption shot anyway. We decided to come across the street to this Newer Mexican restaurant, and when we walked in I was surprised to see how nice the inside is! So clean and a great atmosphere. We were immediately helped by the host, sat within 2 minutes and greeted by our server immediately. Drinks within the next 2 minutes, chips and salsa and I was already so impressed. Next was the real test.. the food!! We ordered arros con queso, I ordered quesa birria tacos and our kids ordered chicken strip kids meals. Food was out within 10 minutes (again- FAST SERVICE!) It all was super good!!! so glad we decided to try it out because it is now our new spot! I stopped our waiter at the end to ask him to surprise my husband for his birthday and he told me they have two options, cheese cake or a tequila shot. He did warn me that it's $15 extra - which was totally fine because they made a HUGE SCENE and I loved it!! LOL. They came out with a whole band, sparkler shooting into the air, tequila shot and a sombrero for my husband - they sang, clapped and danced. You get to keep the sombrero after. Again, this is our new go to Mexican restaurant!! I wish I got our servers name.. he was excellent. 10/10 read more

Our waiter was great and there whenever we needed him. We got seated right away and it was a Wednesday around 6pm. We ordered margaritas and they came in steel containers and then once we poured them onto the glass with ice it was like dry ice and the drinks were bubbling. I had never seen that before so that was a nice touch and there was still some left to pour in once the glass of ice was full. Their food menu was pretty big so I had a hard time choosing what to get. I got the boss burrito which was large enough I had some leftover. I thought the pineapples that were included might be an off touch but they complimented the burrito nicely. My friend got the arroz con pollo and no complaints from her. I also liked the salsa that was given with the chips but if you aren't a big fan of cilantro you might not enjoy it. read more

Pretty impressed by the overall experience here. The vibe of the restaurant is upbeat, and can get loud at times- so if you like a place that is quiet, this is not the place for you. We had a party of six on a Saturday night- they were packed. Service was "meh"- not too bad, but not the best. Food was delicious. Everyone in the party seemed to enjoy their meals. Prices were a little elevated for what we got, but not horrible. Overall would return if in the mood for Mexican and willing to spend a little bit more than normal. read more

Food is great and filling portions. Margaritas are amazing! Prices very reasonable. Waitstaff was very attentive. Great vibe

El Toro Southside is a great Mexican restaurant to enjoy the finer things! I went with my family and we sat on the patio and enjoyed the white noise sounds of I65! I'm kidding, you can't really hear the interstate but from the patio you do have a great view of the neighboring gas station so that's neat! Ultimately, the food was solid Mexican fare, the service was good, the salsa and chips were delightful! Prices were a bit steep but what do you expect with gas prices this high! And I would be remiss if I didn't say, you need to try the house Margarita! It comes out and they pour it in for you and it bubbles and smokes! Cmon people, it bubbles and smokes for almost the entirety of your drink! It's pretty cool! Hope to see you there! read more

The greenwood El Toro is the 3rd restaurant in this location but I think we finally have a winner. Food is great and atmosphere is super fun. The food is a little pricey but the drink prices are fair and they do not hold back on the alcohol. Fun cocktails and margaritas. The quesadillas are big enough to split which may account for the price and taste as though they have fresh ingredients and cooked as ordered. Tacos are also great and the flan is available and a sweet end to your meal. Save up room Before your go and you will not leave hungry. read more

The restaurant was very casual and lively. It has a private parking lot with plenty of parking. We were greeted & seated right away. Our waitress (who's name start with an O) was friendly and even helped me a little with my Spanish. She was attentive and assisted with our menu selections. This was the best Mexican Restaurant that I've been to. We tried the Boss Burrito, Nacho Al Carbon and a chicken & sausage entree. The sauces & spices are flavorful. Tell them it's your birthday and the band will play, bring you a Sombrero and a dessert or shot of Tequila for an additional charge. The entire experience was a very good one. I will be back for dinner, again. read more

I'm from Cleveland, Ohio and was traveling the state. The hotel across the street mentioned them so after looking at pictures and reviews I had to try them out. It was very convenient to walk across the street. My waitress, Abril, was very friendly and helpful. She started off by suggesting the drink. I got excited when I saw it smoke. It tasted great and wasn't dry. After reviewing the menu and knowing she did a great job suggesting the drink, I asked for a suggestion for dinner with no dairy. I wanted to try something different and put my trust in her. I'm glad I did. That was also delicious. Staying in a hotel I really didn't want left overs. I was able to eat it all and did not feel hungry. Sitting outside was perfect with the weather. I even had a bird keep me company. I loved the atmosphere. She did not rush me out and I had a great conversation with her. It was welcoming after traveling alone. They were very clean. This is a must try. Ended up snagging takeout to try somewhere new with the neighbors.. the only ordering.. super easy and it gives a time to pick up which is super helpful. When we arrived, the parking lot was stuffed and the place was equally busy. we were 5 minutes early so we snagged a beer at the bar... Ended up chugging it since they were right on time with the food being ready. Pretty impressive considering how busy it was. We had a nice mix of food.. couple burritos, quesadilla and a hot n spicy burrito.. salsa, queso and quac. The burrito loco (i think) was good.. the meat had a bunch of flavor but was a slight bit dry. same with the chicken in the quesadilla Queso and quac were good, had a bunch of flavor and reasonable sizes portions. Salsa was a bit bland for me.. but i like spice. Overall, we enjoyed it and will visit in person when we get the time. the interior looks really good. Wish i could give 4.5 stars.. as this rings that bell. read more

My family and I went to El Toro for lunch. The lunch menu is not served on Sunday. My kids split an arroz con pollo because it wasn't on the kids menu. Tonight we decided to adventure out and instead of going to our favorite Mexican restaurant, we would try a new one. It's always exciting trying a new Mexican restaurant because all the ones I have been to are so good, but each a little different. El Toro was very busy tonight and that's a great sign it's a good restaurant, right? I loved the way they have wallpapered the restaurant to look like murals that represent both Mexico and Indianapolis. Wait staff attended to our needs well, even though they were very busy. The disappointment was the food! I had Pollo Asado. The chicken was overcooked and bland. Definitely not what I expected. My husband got the fajita bowl. He said it was okay, but lacked flavor. This restaurant got so many things right, but missed the target with the most important part, the food! read more

I decided to stop here for dinner before a hair appointment the other evening. Since it was a Thursday evening, it wasn't too busy so I was seated right away. The staff were quick and friendly. I ordered a water to drink and my entrée was the Baja Chicken which included shrimp, tomatoes, spinach, a side of beans and rice. The food was prepared very quickly, served hot, and tasty. The price is affordable and the menu is diverse. The have a full bar, plenty of seating inside and outdoors (seasonal). Some of the seating does seem a little close so you might be a bit friendly with your neighbor table. Overall, I had a nice dinner. read more

A co-worker and I decided to go out to lunch and we were both in the mood for Mexican food. We decided to check out El Toro as we heard they have great margaritas. I'm thinking this will be our go to lunch spot from now on!! read more

We came in around 8pm and were seated right away --even though the parking lot was packed. Great drinks and food! I'm very particular about chicken/meats in general and I devoured the chicken in my meal. It was seasoned/cooked wonderfully. Everything was yummy. Drinks were fabulous. They had a fun drum celebration for birthdays. The only reason I gave a 4 star review was because it was incredibly loud, hard to talk to even the people at your own table. Next time we'll try the patio! read more

This place is soooo good! Friendly staff and fire food!!! The prices aren't bad either. It is a little pricey, but worth every penny!

The food Is amazing here and the service is good. They have a nice bar area as well with a great choice of tequilas and even rare ones. To start off with I had a michalada, I though $10.00 was a little much until I got it. It was huge at least 24 oz if not more. I ordered the boss burrito which had chicken and steak and then was topped with chorizo and shrimp and pineapple and smoothed in white queso. It was amazing. I have also had the spicy carnitas here, best I have ever had. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at , and there's been hundreds. I highly recommend it. read more

I was surprised this didn't show all 5 stars, but I think that's because it's new and only has a few reviews. I order Mexican all the time; who doesn't love Mexican food!? I'm traveling and felt this place deserved props. I ordered chicken enchiladas online (super easy to order via their website). 3 enchiladas with rice abs beans. I requested spicy with spicy sauce on the side. Pretty much my usual request. I arrived to a large, full parking lot-good sign. I was greeted by a friendly staff who immediately handed me my order. The enchiladas were great. Fresh chicken, but I was so happy they actually covered them in a hot seemingly homemade salsa/sauce. The thing that even more impressed me was that they have me a nice helping of fresh chips, 2 sides of salsa-one fresh and mild, and the other hot and spicy. I really like their hot sauce. It's not sauce. Maybe more of a salsa. Whatever, it's great. They also provided me with a side of sour cream, lettuce, abs guacamole! I definitely wasn't expecting that. I'd definitely return, I thought the prices were great, and it seemed to have a great vibe inside. read more

Can't say I'm the most thrilled with this place. My boys took me for my birthday. We ordered the Patron flight (wait! What happened to the patron bottles???) The margaritas with exception of the guava were sour tasting. Grilled items were tasty but the rest, the corn tortillas, guac, etc was rather bland. There was a little amount of cheese on my enchiladas del Mar and the green sauce was forgotten. Corn tortillas almost seemed stale and tacos were bland. I think there was a teaspoon of guac on the "salad". I asked our waitress for a drink recommendation and she was clueless, finally saying, I don't know the rainbow. When I requested 3 to go cups for our Waters and my other sons coke, she immediately said, you can't take the margaritas to go! Ummm, excuse me?? I asked to take my water! Once the bill was placed on our table the waitress forgot we even existed. Another hour we sat and enjoyed each other's company without a glance from her. We may try the downtown location as this location wasn't really what they advertise to be. read more
