This is a must visit if your travels take you through downtown Manistee. It's one of those local-friendly places where everyone knows your name - or they will if you visit often enough. Not a dive bar by any means. Menu doesn't change much and it's nicer than typical pub food, the staff is friendly and the full bar offers rotating specials with microbrews and cocktails. Prices are very good. The cozy brick fireplace is nice during the snowy winter- and yes, they're open all year round. They adapted well to stay open during COVID and in the 3 weeks of summer we get here, there's outdoor seating. Give this place a try! read more

I was skeptical. Don't like pubs, and the menu seemed boring. But this place really makes and effort and you can feel and taste it. The Duck appetizer was mind meltingly good. The bean burrito was so fresh, and while not as legit as the ones we get in LA no less fresh and flavorful. My mom said "this is the best burrito I've had in my life." And then twice more, stunned. Dad's Prime something or the other soup was not as strong but he seemed pleased. Staff was pleasant and efficient if a little swamped. Or rather despite being swamped. Great meal. So glad we popped in. Maybe I need to give other pubs a chance for food too? Nah. read more

I cannot recommend this place. Had to sit at the bar because (even with open tables) there was a 45 minute wait? Then waited 45 minutes for a prime rib sandwich, which they told me was already cooked because you cannot order to temp (medium rare). They also don't mention that it's on rye bread and comes with some kind of sour cream and onion chips. The meal definitely wasn't worth the wait. There are better places to go for sure. I would avoid and go somewhere else....service was ok, but nothing special. So in response to the comment by TJs pub - you can see this is the customer service you get - no apology or offer to make it right. Once I was served, no one ever returned to see if everything was ok, so there was nothing that could have been done to make it better anyway. After I was sat, every table was filled - so I don't understand what the empty table situation meant at all. Yes,, you are right, never saw a sign about understaffing, so not sure where that was, but that isn't my problem - your customer is terrible. read more

Very disappointed, My husband and I were in Manistee for a one night get away and the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed until 3-25 and TJs had several good reviews so decided to give it a try. We are still not eating in at a lot of restaurants and being that we are from the area we decided it would be best to carry out, we understand that that often quality isn't always the same when the food doesn't come straight from kitchen to table. First off the two appetizers we tried to order they were out of, mind you we called to place our order at 6:30 pm it is not like it was late in the evening. My husband ordered their best selling sandwich, The Americana, basically it's their taken on the French dip. He thought it was a French dip just on Wheat French bread, not actual wheat bread...he was wrong, it was on regular wheat bread and in turn it was very soggy and not good. I ordered the Loaded Baked Burrito, with pulled pork, the pulled pork was lean so I will definitely give props for that however there were barely any black beans, the enchiladas sauce tasted like it came out of a can, and so did the corn that was in the burrito. It was nothing great, not even good, I'd say it wasn't terrible. Lastly we ordered desert however they forgot to pack it in our to go bag. My husband called to let them know...they asked if we wanted to come back to pick it up...seriously? No! They are supposed to credit my husbands credit card for entire meal and then they recharged us for the entire meal again minus the desert. They told him it could take a few days. A bit different TJs Pub is a very cool looking place tucked away in a great historic building. Very attractive inside with an old fireplace and all kinds of unusual things hanging around. It's called the Ramsdell Building and was constructed in 1891 and was originally built for the First National Bank. Over the years the Ramsdell building held various drug and clothing stores as well as a whole bunch of other things. It was falling apart until some wise people restored and renovated the building in about 2000. Today TJ's Pub graces the bottom floor of the building and is definitely a cool place. However the menu is a bit odd, some pretty fancy stuff on it with weird ingredients and names. I was looking for something plain and simple but had difficulty finding it. I finally had the server get me a simple turkey sandwich that came with the strangest tasting potato chips I ever had. The server said the chips came with some secret ingredients. Can't even imagine what they were. My wife said her salad thing was all right but wasn't crazy about it. The place certainly wasn't inexpensive and for our scruffy tastes another restaurant would have been far better and cheaper. TJs is unquestionably a nice restaurant and the décor and ambiance are fantastic. But it's definitely geared for people with more refined tastes that love goopy sauces and things like garlic and cilantro. A interesting place that just wasn't for us. read more

Stopped in for lunch and was greeted and seated quickly. Great atmosphere, clean and smelled wonderful. Our waitress was cheerful and told us about their special, which was too good to pass up. Lunch for two that included salad, sandwich or wrap, fountain drink, coffee/tea and dessert all for $20.00!!!!! Good size portions and delicious food. read more

Stopped for early dinner 4:30 Sunday after a few hours at north beach and our chocolate lab Scarlett enjoyed the dog friendly deck out front. The sever was very prompt and the food came out quickly. I got braised pork Philly cheesesteak and it had really great flavor. Wife got turkey Rueben. Scarlett had a little of both meats and agreed it was really good. The inside of the pub looked really classic it is in the old English style and attached to an old school hotel I understand is quite nice. Good quick hassle free meal, just the way we like it. read more

Great Beer and great sustainable food. TJ's is the basics, but with the chef's flair in Devine provence. With a twist on appetizers and sandwiches gives TJ that extra special something. Their apps sandwiches are named appropriately, although some of the appetizers are so basic, I said "I can make that" many a times. Like the Local Platter, although very good, very basic. The Tamales were a little complicated for me, but, very tasty and a large portion. My entree I had the Germania, basically its a Ruben, but with sliced turkey, but it was delicious. My friends had the Americana and the Brazillia, both very good too! Michigan products and friendly service, can't go wrong there! read more

We stopped in for a late lunch (1:00 or so) on a cold Thursday and sat at the bar. There was plenty of seating at that time and the service was excellent. The pork tamales were amongst the best I have had at any restaurant (and I used to live in Texas). We also had the Mac 'n cheese and the veggie flatbread. Both were delicious and the servings were hearty. There was also a small but very nice selection of microbrew beer on tap. read more

This is a cute place with a huge tv that is an excellent spot to watch sports. It's also on the main drag of the town so very convenient. The staff is very friendly and the drinks are good. But, the food needs some help. We had a party of four, all ordering different entrees but they all tasted like they were pre-made and microwaved. Came down to Manistee for the day with no intention of eating out. But walking past TJs right on the corner, we definitely had to try it out. So glad we did! Where do I start. Their wine selection was great because it's got some of the best local wines. The Margherita pizza was delicious and probably the best crust I've had. My boyfriend had the Loaded Burrito which he loved as well. Everything about the experience was enjoyable: yummy food, downtown location, warm fireplace and brick interior, friendly wait staff, affordable, clean bathrooms, and I could go on. Stopped in to get a shot on girls weekend. There were bugs in 4 of the 6 shots. The other two shots had already been drank before we noticed the bugs. We were still charged for the 2 shots that were completely drank.... not cool at all. If there were bugs in 4 of them, there were probably bugs in the other 3 too. No one even apologized to us. Super friendly service! Great prices on happy hour drinks! Only downside is drinks were SUPER lightly poured- I got a whisky sour and it basically was a highball glass full of super sweet lemonade- zero detectable bourbon. My husband got a bourbon peach tea and we also couldn't taste the bourbon in that either. Maybe it's bc we are KY folks but we actually like the taste of bourbon. :) Whitefish dip was super good- would definitely return for that and just get a beer or neat drink. read more

We were out for a Saturday afternoon adventure and stopped in because of, you guessed it, good reviews. There are 13 total tables including indoor and outdoor dining. There were 5 people working the front of house. We ordered a draft and were given a menu. We got our beers and were never spoken to again. I managed to make a comment about the awful, bloody cage fighting on the TV but was dismissed. There is clearly a system problem with this place. Seating, bar tending, food running all being performed by each server. Ineffective and disappointing. read more

We stayed at the Ramsdell Inn and ate at TJ's our first night in town. TJ's was all you want in a pub. Soup was home-made, prime rib with tons of vegetables, clearly home-made. Meatballs and cavatappi were good! Marinara on it was delish, and the cheese topping was delish. Staff were attentive, and drinks were good. Worth hitting. read more

Service was extremely slow! We waited over 20 minutes after being seated for anyone to even come around and get our drink orders. Once we brought it to staff's attention, they seemed to be surprised to see us sitting there.. even though they were the ones who seated us! Our whole group agreed that the food was great, but were disappointed that once we got our meals, our waitress never came back around to refill any drinks or make sure our meal was to our liking. We understand that this may have been an off night or that they were low staffed, but the service we received was absolutely subpar. read more

We are in from Minneapolis and can say that if you don't stop and eat a TJ's when you stay in Manistee or at least pass through, you've missed out on one of the best local gems. Great food (try the sushi, it's fantastic), superb beer selection, friendly staff and just a great location on main street to shop then eat. This pub is amazing, it's is under the Inn. Clearly is spot for all families, travelers, bikers, and date night. The food is well prepared and the presentation is on point. During the holidays it's very well packed so check with the staff to see if they close early on said holiday. The close at 6pm on the forth. 12 beers on tap with is nice no need to be overwhelmed to much of a variety. Healthy options vegan and gluten friendly diets. read more
