Management at this place is in great need of customer service training. Very unprofessional and rude.

I love this store and come often to shop with my mom. Today while standing in line, there were some perfumes on display out of the box. Some ladies behind us sprayed a ton in the air to smell them which gave me and my mom a gnarly headache. Standing in line I felt like I was going to pass out. One of the best TJs I have ever been too. Clean and organized. They actually take pride in their store. Neat displays and a cool clearance section. I was able to score some RAE Dunn, housewares. Like $2 for some cool desk decor. Awesome candles on clearance! TBH some of these candles are better than BB. Checking out was long, but they work fast and open every register. Stood in line and watched them aggressively push their credit cards to vulnerable foreigners. Of course when I (A good looking American) walked up to the counter, not even a mention about opening a line of credit. Disgusting business practice - trying to convince foreigners to take out lines of credit for personal benefit (sure there is some bonus or commission based on the aggression). I've been to more TJ Maxx than I can remember in various cities and states, and this one is by far the worst from a customer service standpoint which ultimately is the reason their checkout line is always wrapped around the store. This most recent visit literally moved me to write this review because in the past I've given them grace for a variety of reasons, yet the horrific customer service I received today while attempting to make a return without a receipt was unacceptable. I knew going in that if they didn't have the technology to do a receipt lookup with my credit card that I would have to be issued a store credit which was absolutely fine, however, the cashier initially said the items couldn't be returned without a receipt, and when I challenged that, she changed her tune and said that they could in fact be returned, however, the attitude and borderline stereotyping behavior I received from the cashier was absolutely absurd! She inspected the items I was returning with the suspicion that they were used or stolen despite them having the tags (holding them up to the light, grunting, asking if there was additional packaging the items came in .... all things that are NOT typical in cases when returning tagged merchandise to a retailer. She even went as far as saying that she needed to ask her Manager if she could complete the return and when her Manager of course said yes, she huffed and puffed... and this was all after she had already scanned my ID to check whether I had a history of returns without receipts which I of course did not. Needless to say I will not be returning to this location, however, additional training and / or better hiring practices need to be implemented to prevent futures experiences like this for customers. read more

When first entering the store I was super excited about the size and PURE ORGANIZATION. Like wow. Usually TJ's has stuff stuffed into racks, falling out into the aisles, it's chaos. BUT THIS LOCATION had their ishhhh together and I was here for it. CLEARANCE RACKS EVERYWHERE. FRIENDLY STAFF ORGANIZED INVENTORY DIVERSE INVENTORY The downfall came at checkout, when I waited, 15 minutes in line. They had 4 employees at the registers moving at glacial speeds. The line was long, but nothing crazy, and it definitely shouldn't have taken 15 minutes. It ruined my overall experience and made for a frustrating checkout. read more

Great selection for real. Found so many great products from truly to morphe. My only issue that really bothered me is the staff left carts everywhere and I had to take several redirections. Once or twice is whatever you know? But it was nonstop. The staff would chat and just stop in the middle of the aisle. Some customers also proceeded to just leave carts and walk away to a completely different aisle.. didn't apologize didn't say pardon. Which again bothered me. Hopefully when I come back it's better because there's so much good stuff here. Staff was nice besides the stopping in the middle of the aisle like three times lol. read more

The selection at this TJ is good. Very clean and organized. Strategically smart to go a few times a week to see if any of your "wish list" items get marked down or just enjoy the new inventory when it arrives. Always something new to see. read more

TJ Maxx - Interior - Department Stores Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

This store reopened today with extra efforts to protect employees and customers during phase one of the lifting of restrictions from Covid19. They are limiting the number of people in the store, marked isles as one-way, positioned staff around the store, sanitizing shopping carts, everyone must wear masks, dressing rooms are closed, and the checkout line is clearly marked for 6 ft distancing. The reason for my rating of three stars is because while I was shopping there today there was a family of 5 who were constantly taking their masks off or wearing them around their neck not covering their face at all. When I asked an employee (who had just seen this family walk by) why she didn't tell them to put their masks on, she said employees weren't allowed to tell customers to do that, but that I could say something to them. Excuse me? If this is the store policy, a requirement to shop here, I would think employees have the authority to enforce it. Makes me question whether TJMaxx really cares about the safety of their customers. What's the purpose of all the extra measures to protect people if they won't say something to shoppers who aren't following the requirements? Not sure I feel comfortable shopping here at this time!! read more

I came to TJ Maxx to grab my bf some dress socks for a wedding we are attending this weekend. I came in and went straight to the men's department. In front of the wall with socks was a clearance area. There were quite a few good deals but the boxes were busted open and I was kinda in a rush. I did find a pack of white tees for $6. The socks were limited but we ended up finding some thick socks we can use. I would go back and look around more when I'm not in a rush. read more

I went there to purchase a specific item while with my 2 year old son and family. My son decides to go to the children's toy area and wanted a 'pretend play shopping cart'. Of course, as a toddler he wanted to play with it so I let him stroll his new cart around the store with me. Despite my stress from shopping with my 2 year old, I had an elder associate being publicly rude to my family and I. As we were minding our own business (as she should of too), she announced that this wasn't a playground and we had to buy it if he's playing with it. How rude for someone to speak like that to you when you're a costumer and she works there. I would appreciated for a concern to be addressed directly to me and not gossip with your co-worker at a level where I can hear. How publicly humiliating is that? I was profiled in this store, I'm so pissed! I don't understand, it seemed like there were a diversity of people who were shopping in the store, I was the only one that was followed by a lady who worked in the store. At first I assumed I'm over thinking it, but then she followed me to 2 different isles, and pretended to check the racks, so I stopped and stared at her, I'm assuming she noticed that she wasn't being discrete, so she left me alone. This is outrages I can't comprehend the idea of getting profiled. If this is something common in this State then im truly sorry for those who experience it often. read more

It seems that the workers (mostly Asian and Latino)show preferential treatment towards those of the same ethnicity as them or whites. I went over to buy a silver chain and the lady behind the counter wouldn't even acknowledge my presence! However, an older lady just window shopping got all the attention. She didn't even buy anything. I never go into any store without having at least some money to spend. She just assumed I was a bum. This is a very small store as compared to other TJ Maxx locations, but a welcome addition to an area that doesn't offer much variety. Unlike other reviewers, I have found the staff very friendly. I can't say overly helpful as this is pretty much a self-service sort of store with the exception of checkout. However, my experiences have been good. This particular location is attached to a Home Goods so you can shop both stores without having to leave which is convenient. Their selection is not as varied or large as other stores, but I usually manage to find something. Prices are great on some items and seem high on others. I have not had any issues with the quality of the items I have purchased. I'm glad they have opened in Dulles Landing as it's super convenient for me to stop in. read more

Came here to look for some house decor, kitchenware, and to browse their shoe section. I ended up leaving empty handed because this TJ Maxx was very underwhelming. I've been to other TJ Maxx stores that are stocked with amazing items but this one was just meh.There were some sections that were organized and others that weren't. TJMAXX overall has a terrible and outdated return policy. If you buy anything online and use paypal, goodbye money. You get store credit only. You are also not allowed to get your money back for an online purchase unless you pay by card AND have the paper receipt they shipped with the item. Even if you have the emailed receipt, they will still not accept a return for it. What is this, the 90's? read more

IMO, this is kind of a crappy location of TJ Maxx...definitely not up there like the one on Fairfax. I don't know what it is about this location, but I just NEVER find anything at this store, but I'll walk out of the one in Fairfax with bags of items. Very rude employees and their cashier, Isabel, scolded me for not hearing her cashier call during a busy time. She mocked me and then questioned if I can speak English... seriously?? Good luck asking them for help, they will roll their eyes and make up prices at the top of their heads because they don't want to actually do any work. The store is always messy, there's tags missing from everything, and almost everything has been opened and used. The prices are not that good- for some reason, this store prices things totally wrong. I can walk in here and find a pair of sandals for $25, but they retail for $27! Save your time and money and go else where! read more

the older ladies staff is terrible...the south Asian lady that guards the dressing room is a real sourpuss... And the East Asian lady was doing busy work organizing the clearance bath products for a really long time preventing me from looking at it. I worked here. The people who work here work incredibly hard. They get a 5 in my opinion. When I worked there though, the store was quite dirty and many of the items in clearance were broken (honestly, who is going to buy that?) I dunno if this stuff has changed by now, but I thought I would at least stop by to praise my old co-workers. I cant give this place more than a 3 though. I really hated this job. Today was the grand opening of this combination Tjmaxx Home Goods store! Located in Dulles Landing off of Loudoun County parkway, it's not the most convenient location, but the shopping center is so new and exciting, it was worth the trek. I went with my mom and sister who were in town visiting this weekend, and upon entering the store we were handed raffle tickets for a 25.00 gift card every 10 mins. We browsed the whole store and especially liked the home goods being connected with the tjmaxx. This is a very organized store but I am curios to update the appearance once a few weeks pass by. I did like the selection of items and the wide variety of my favorite brands, especially kitchen items. I will say I was disappointed that when we were preparing to purchase our items, we discovered the line was literally wrapped around the entire store. And the icing on the cake is that the line was incredibly slow! This was around 12pm and the store opened at 8am. I realize people are always going to flock to a grand opening, however I feel it was a little unrealistic to stand in line for 2 hours just to purchase a few items. I look forward to returning on a more low key day and enjoying the merchandise. read more

Quite a small shop, not a lot of variety on clothes, you may occasionally find a bargain, but I prefer the one in fairfax.

I recently went to the TJX Reward member event on Sept. 28th. It was really great. They had reusble bags, bottled water and fruit for the members. They also gave out $10 gift cards to the first 15 people. For the rest of the day, they gave away $20 gift cards on the half hour. A great experience. I purchased an expensive leather purse, which fell apart within three months. When I took it back to the store with my original receipt, I was told that it had been over 30 days, which was the limit for getting a refund. When I explained to the store manager that, before the 30-day period had elapsed, I had no way of knowing that the purse would fall apart within three months and, when I requested a refund, she told me that I could only receive a store credit. I used part of that credit to purchase other items, one of which was also defective. Now I am wondering whether the low prices are due to the fact that they may be selling merchandise that has minor defects. Perhaps I was just unlucky. I work in retail as a store manager, and we strive for 100% customer satisfaction, even if we occasionally have to make an exception to some of the rules in order to keep our customers happy . TJ Maxx does not do this for their customers! In short, I plan to make all of my future purchases elsewhere. read more

I normally love TJ MAXX and spend lots of money there. I recently went to the Georgetown Location, and bought a helmut lang top for 69.99$. I put it on at home, it didn't fit right, so I decided to take it to the sterling location which is 5 miles from where I live, you know because it's convenient. I go in, and Jared Simpson, a manager is working. I don't have a receipt (don't know how i usually have a zip lock of them in my bag at all times) I tell her I don't have a receipt but have the tags and merchandise. She proceeds to go well "they're getting more strict about returns without receipts". I then point out that the sign behind her says "easy returns, store credit without receipt". I also say that I spoke to a sales associate and she says "well it wasn't a manager". I go "no.. but that is your policy". She then says this item is now 39.99$ (even though I bought it two weeks ago, but hey it could easily happen) so I then go well there is no sale sticker on the tag, you can see what I paid for it. The tag isn't damaged. She then tells me the only helpful thing out of this entire conversation "you can go back to Georgetown and they can look up your records on the cash register". I decided to give it one more shot at the sterling location. The sales associate basically started telling me that i needed to drive to Tyson's because "maybe they could look up the item in their system since it isn't showing up at this store". I proceeded to ask her to get another sales associate or maybe a manager to help double check because I have little time to drive to tyson's. (why would this item be at tyson's and not sterling?). She proceeded to argue with me, when I finally said "just please get a manager to help you". She called the manager, and when Mr. Wu came over, instead of helping look up the item and taking over, he huddled in the corner with the sales associate, walked over to me and said "she said this isn't coming up". I then told him I understood, but could he please look up the item. He finally looked it up, and I had to ask him about 10 times whether or not they would be able to find the item at the Tyson's location even if they couldn't at the Sterling location. He interrupted me each time telling me just to drive to Georgetown. He finally answered my question, which was - no don't go to Tyson's. The sales associate proceeded to come back over and argue with me telling me not to lose my receipt next time, and that she was right in telling me to drive to Tyson's for no reason. By this point the manager had his back turned, dealing with another return. No apology, not stopping this associate from being completely disrespectful. basically- sorry for the long story. But this is a horrible location. I am not a difficult person to deal with, but don't tell a customer to drive to another store to return something when that isn't possible. Don't proceed to argue with the customer and tell her "don't lose your receipt next time". This is a really terrible staff with little to no training in managerial skills or customer service. Stick to Nordstrom Rack next time? Or go to the Georgetown location. WORTH THE DRIVE. Come to find out Instead of driving all the way up, I call the manager there, and she is THE BEST MANAGER i have ever spoken to. **AT GEORGETOWN**. She tells me that she will look up my receipt and send it to me. read more
