After waiting for a manager to come over, Yadira asked what size it was. The second she heard "small," she looked my boyfriend and me up and down with a judgmental expression, clearly assuming neither of us could possibly be asking for that size. The shirt was for my mom, who was already in the fitting room. Being looked at with that level of visible disgust and assumption was humiliating and honestly unacceptable from someone in a management position. Body shaming does not always have to be verbal. Facial expressions, tone, and treatment speak loudly too. What made it worse was the complete lack of accountability afterward. Instead of apologizing sincerely, Yadira responded with dismissive comments like "I'm sorry you took it that way" and "I would never do that," while continuing to act rude and avoid eye contact. Retail workers interact with people of all sizes every single day. If someone in management cannot treat customers with basic respect without making assumptions based on body type, they should not be in a customer-facing position.

This store was once the Bakersfield Scuba location which appears that they took over the business that was next door because from my memory it's a lot bigger. The store was absolutely packed with shoppers and staff that was working there. At first it was hard to tell the difference because other than the few guys that were in there everyone was in yoga pants. I was promptly created by a cheerful eager to make my experience a good one young lady. I told her what I was looking for and within 5 to 10 minutes I had an outfit purchased for my awesome wife. It's one thing to talk negatively about customers like that where other customers can't hear or off the clock but while you are on the clock actively at the registers... Just gross. And once we got to the registers, the cashiers continued talking about their personal lives in detail including very loudly sharing to someone two registers over about someone having a stroke and passing away?! Completely inappropriate!! This whole visit to this location was just inappropriate on the staff behalf. My cousin and I literally talked with her for at least 10 minutes about the TADC movie and our thoughts on it, but if you ever visit hot topic and Karina is there, she's freakin awesome and one of the nicest retail employees I think I'll ever meet. However. My story does not end there! There was also this other employee named Armando! He was super duper helpful and honestly he was a whole vibe, amazing person too. He showed us where the Jax plush's were (my cousin and I both ended up buying one so thank you so much!) he also showed me where the one piece merch was!!!!!!! Let me give you one petty example -- My favorite band is The Used. I have a HUGE tattoo on my forearm of the bands' logo and I was wearing a The Used shirt when I approached the desk to ask if they had received any of the new merch that The Used had just dropped and was advertised at Hot Topic... The gal working the front desk (Wearing all My Chemical Romance stuff -- only relevant if you know the drama between The Used and MCR lol) looks at my shirt, looks at my arm, and then goes "The Used isn't really relevant anymore, so we don't carry their merch" in super degrading and snotty tone... I thought it was sort of funny, especially since THEY LITERALLY HAD A SHIRT ON THE WALL... Anyways, there is one guy - I think his name is "Jay" or something similar and he is super friendly and helpful and definitely way better than snotty MCR girl lol.. he is almost always working and happy to help!

Solid place for snacks, juice, water, party supplies, home goods and even personal care. The sales are always something to indulge in and the customer service is personable. The parking lot is a little run down, but super easy to navigate in and out of. Despite being shopped super hard for the holidays the shelves were fairly well kept, organized and faced. We stopped in for some candy, salt snacks and wine as well as those late last minute gifts including a seasonal Himalayan Salt Lamp that has a new great home. The Dollar General is a touch of Big Lots mixed with Walgreens and a splash of Dollar Tree, but very much it's own store. This one in Bakersfield, Kern County, California off Wilson Rd and the 99 Golden State Hwy is worth checking out for sure. Appreciate the two gents/clerks in front who made our experience that much more better and enjoyable.

The hot sellers are toilet paper and laundry soap at bargain prices. I enjoyed shopping there during the holidays and found some great Christmas items for good prices. I downloaded the APP to get some other coupon discounts. Bring your own bags or pay 10 cents a bag. The location on Wilson Road does not have shopping carts. The restroom at the location on white lane was a disgusting mess. The location on South Chester has the smallest floor space and narrow aisles but was well stocked. The location on Brundage is a market with a larger floor space and a small selection of grocery items. They assisted a homeless man by watching his personal cart while he shopped. This was an act of kindness, however, just be aware to lock your car and watch your purse. The main reason I would shop there is for seasonal items.
