Sheena, the Manager, was very rude. I attempted to address concerns about how difficult their store is to navigate a wheelchair. I took my Mom in a light-weight wheelchair and had difficulties throughout the store going down isles blocked with "stock" (with no one in site for a lengthy period)or with so much stuff crammed into open floor space that Mom kept knocking things. Sheena has NO business being a Manager! She needs to be returned to Customer Service training. Her total disinterest in hearing any concerns was clear. I have never had such a bad experience at a TJ Maxx store. Our cashier was very sweet and apologetic about the events, even if the Manager wasn't. I liked that this TJ Maxx offered more designer products than most of the other locations I've been to. They even had Coach and Kate Spade shoes on display, and expensive designer purses locked away. There were lots of Asian skin care products available that I had not seen elsewhere as well. read more

Well organized store, but some of the staff is very inconsiderate. A cashier was casually talking to a friend for several minutes while the line began to extend well into the retail area. Finally, I spoke up and asked them to bring in more cashiers. One cashier barked back saying they were "shortstaffed" which is getting to be a very tired excuse for not wanting to pay people to work. read more

I love searching for bargains if you have the time. You can find some great deals. I bought an Adidas backpack years ago that is still in great shape. I have got a few dress shirts years also. They have items for all ages both men and women. The shoe section can be fun also. I have got pet items, gift items, home items and a few food items here also. While browsing a few years back, I found a designer coat marked originally in the thousand dollar range less than half off. No I didn't take a picture. It wasn't my style or size but did get a giggle out of it. read more

Rude customer service at check out. Today I went to TJ Maxx as I normally do on payday. Perhaps something was in the air. Per usual they were short staffed at check out. which at this location I'm used to. The line is usually long with one or two cashiers working. Again, totally fine. After waiting, I was called to register 5 where I believe the manger was working. She was an older black women and after saying hello, she didn't reply. I asked how her day was going and she asked me if I wanted to apply for a job???!?!?!? It came off very condescending. I told her no and again, asked how her day was. She rolled her eyes at me, and said fine. She then proceeded to hang up clothes behind the counter as I just stood there, waiting for her to ring up the winter jacket i wanted to purchase. After about 2 minutes of just standing there; she finally rang up my order. I smiled and said thank you and again she rolled her eyes. Honestly, this tj maxx is quite busy. I get that. But just because you're having a bad day or even at rush times, I expected more from a member of management. I suggest they work with their employees on being more friendly and approachable. I will say the other two employees I interacted with were wonderful. Very friendly and smiling. Overall I'm unsatisfied with my visit today and will just go to the Brighton location moving forward. read more

THIS was my first, last and in between stop everytime. Located perfectly by Zingerman's, a must stop anyways, and by the hotel we always stay at (Weber's) I LOVE their selection, runway, clearance, all there, never too full, big parking lot out front, all good here, so many great items scored, man I miss this place :) read more

Returns here are a huge hassle. My sister bought me a silverware set, but I needed to return it because I had purchased other silverware before receiving her gift during the holidays. I came to this store without the receipt and went to the register. The clerk looked over the brand new, unopened box and said it didn't come from the store. Another clerk went to the home goods section to check if they carried it. How kind of her! She came back to the register stating they don't carry it in the store. Fine, whatever. I walk out disappointed. The next day, my sister texts me the receipt. I go in and return the item, surprisingly easily. I shop around and walk to the home goods section to find two sets of the exact same silverware I just returned. Wow! Thanks for the hassle to prove myself, TJMaxx. What a terrible way to treat your customers. I will avoid this location at all cost. read more

I love TJ Maxx! Where else can you get Under Armour for 50% off list price? Went here last night and got two items to keep myself warm in the winter... basically for the price of one if I were to buy from UA's website and pay for shipping. I wasn't expecting to find more than one item in my size, but I ended up trying on four in the dressing room! The service was a little slow up front, but I think it was due to customers raising a stink. The young Asian cashier who rang me up was smiling and friendly, which I appreciate and makes me want to rate this place a 4-star. But the Active Wear racks were disorganized (probably due to customers putting things back in random places), and a lot of M-sized items were in the S or XS racks and vice versa. The store is not entirely at fault here. Anyway, I will be back! read more

Hey, you've gotten better, TJ Maxx! Lately I've been finding a lot more that I love clothing and handbag wise here. Maybe I'm just more patient and ok with digging to find some good stuff but I'm impressed. I've come home with bags of goodies the last few times I've visited. I've also been happy to see that they've been carrying some Kate Spade stuff (my weakness) as well. Many TJ stores carry her handbags but this is the first shop I've regularly found her clothing in as well. And I know this because after finding a dress that I LOVED (but not in my size) I went to practically every TJ Maxx in the area looking for more and didn't see any of her clothing in any store other than the new one in Dearborn Heights. Aaaaanyway, I've found multiple KS items here--blazers, dresses, tops, etc. Alas I've not made it in time to find my sizes in anything but I like that they'll be stocking her stuff every so often. Makes more more inclined to go there and investigate. But maybe that's not a good thing (for my wallet at least). Ha! Also, since I've recently been on a tour of TJ Maxx stores in the area looking for this damn dress, I've also discovered that this is one of the few that has the "runway" collection (I thought they all had this but apparently not). This section has more upscale and designer clothing available if that's of any interest to you. Still a bit rich for my blood but if you like stuff like Tory Burch, Versace, or Diane Von Furstenberg this is a local store you should visit. Just don't be prepared for deep deep markdowns off the bat. read more

I'm what they call a Maxxinista. No seriously, I am. I like deals and I find them often. I frequent many of the TJ Maxx locations in the Detroit Metro Area, especially those with a Runway Department (department for premium designers). I haven't decided which location is my favorite between this one and the TJ Maxx on North Telegraph. TJ Maxx is notorious for being messy. Most people are put off by the fact that they literally have to sift through the mess to find the goods. This is no deterrent to a true shopper. I am that shopper. As a result, I always block out at least an hour when I go to a TJ Maxx, even if I'm only running in for one thing. Though I expect shopping here to be time consuming, it actually isn't very bad. The store is surprisingly well organized and the Runway selection is right at the front of the store, which is an added bonus. I also like that this location has a sizable selection within the Runway Department. They usually have multiple cashiers, which is more than I can say for most locations, so the wait is never extended. It's just long enough for me to find some much-needed chocolate near the checkout lane. I would recommend this store, but that would leave less deals for me. Therefore, stay away. Do not enter. If I see you shopping here and you happen to have beat me to a handbag I like, I will steal it from your cart while you're looking at pantyhose. Shop at your own risk. read more

TJ Maxx brings together two of my favourite things: fashion and discounts. Nothing quite elevates me to a level of sartorial and shopping nirvana as knowing I scored a hefty discount against the inflated in store prices on quality goods. Usually this chain is my go-to when I want to find a deal, as it nets me more consistent deals than Loehmann's (a disaster) and Marshall's (even more a disaster with my track record). I was pleased to find a TJ Maxx right next door to Nicola's Books on a recent jaunt to Ann Arbor. The store leaves good first impressions for being clean, well-lit, and mostly free of the shambles left in the wake of Detroit-area shoppers. I meandered through the designer pop-up section, admiring a few size -6 skirts which doubled as fashionable spring oven mitts, and moved on. My beef with TJ throughout Michigan is the lackluster content. The juniors section is naturally picked over with the U of M all of 6 feet away, but the selection of brands was particularly slim. In the women's section, aside from a few eye-catching BCBG and Calvin Klein pieces, everything felt geared to a much older demographic. It was one Willie Smith cardigan after another in shirts and knits. What happened to some of these much vaunted name brands? Aside from one or two scattered here and there, waiting for someone to pull them out of the woodwork, I wasn't able to find much in a solid hour of searching. Hrm. The housewares section lacks the disarray common to the suburban stores I frequent, which was a distinct plus. It's easy to sort through the racks, though I must have hit a restocking day because the shelves were pretty barren. There were some elegant framed prints and pictures I could have walked out the door with, given the opportunity. The problem comes from the customer service. I didn't see one person doing any work while I was there, and two of the girls were busy talking over a pair of Kate Spade flats rather than helping a customer not two feet away waiting very patiently on them. I walked out emptyhanded after a hapless perusal of the socks, most of the clothing racks, and the scanty size 10 shoe section. read more

This TJ Maxx is a little strange because like the Novi one it's a corner store and it has a lot of space. However, it's never really that well organized. The clothing section is scattered about for men. You will find stuff at the front of the store, at the back, in the corner. It varies in how clean the store is too. There is something strange about the lighting in the TJ Maxx stores too. It's always so bright so that the dirtiness of the store stands out. Otherwise, people from all parts of the city end up here and it's always been busy on my weekend or evening trips here. I don't find as many good bargains at this location as some of the other ones but it is worthwhile enough to make a trip for multiple items. Otherwise, I don't have problems with parking here and haven't really ever needed help from employees at this location so I can't judge that. read more

Let's face it, Ann Arbor doesn't boast the best clothes shopping in Michigan. Briarwood is no match to Somerset or even Twelve Oaks, and the clothing stores around town, with very few exceptions, often present an odd collection of overpriced apparel. At this TJ Maxx, as in any discount store, you have to dig through the racks, but it is well worth it here - the place is huge and usually well stocked. If you are truly into bargain hunting and come with an open mind, it is a treasure trove. I have not seen a lot of Prada the other review mentioned, but slightly lesser brands are abundant in the "Runway" section (which is unique to this store), albeit size selection is limited. So, if you don't have the time to drive to the Saks and Neiman's outlets in Auburn Hills, this is your best local alternative. read more

This is a very well-run store - and unlike one of the other reviewers I have never come out empty-handed here. I really like their selection of up-market brand name items for men as well as women. I can't bring myself to pay $250 for a shirt (well I did once!) but when it's discounted to $60 then I'm ready. Also when an emergency strikes - like the darn cold weather in Ann Arbor last week (I live in TX) I ran to the store (well drove with the heater on) and bought a nice Izod sweater, a Geoffrey Beene scarf and some leather gloves for $47 including taxes - deal!!!! read more

This is your typical TJ Maxx. We like coming here after exploring downtown A2 because they usually have some pretty good deals. I was looking in particular for an iPad Mini carrying case, they had some nice snap-on cases but no carrying ones unfortunately. They did have a large selection of shoes though, almost bought a pair. read more

I shop at Tj Maxx all of the time but I was incredibly disappointed when I went to make a return. It was In The jewelry department and I DID have my original receipt and the tag WAS still attached. They said they were unable to return it Because the receipt length of the necklace didn't match the actual length of the necklace. I asked how was that my fault. It's a system error! She said acted like I was trying to scam when all I was trying to do was exchange for a different price of jewelry because my mother in law didn't want a necklace. I am a 36 years old mother of 3 that doesn't need to steal or scam anything and I don't appreciate being treated like I am a thief. All of the people I dealt with were incredibly rude. This TJ maxx is getting worse and worse over the years. Their customer service isn't great to begin with and declining rapidly. This particular store used to be my go to store since it is close to my house. Will be looking elsewhere, mainly online for my clothing/ handbag needs. read more

This is a realy fantastic TJ Maxx in terms of merchandise, particularly if you are looking to find designer clothes at discount prices or like to shop kitchenware! I have found some great deals here. It's too bad the customer service here in general leaves much to be desired -- it seems as though every TJ Maxx staffer I come into contact with while I am shopping just plain doesn't want to be there. For example - I was checking out with my fantastic finds (including a Cuisinart immersion blender for over 50% off what I would have paid at Williams Sonoma!) and I put my shopping cart right behind me while I was in the process of paying. The woman checking me out said, "Um, you know, shopping carts go up at the front, don't just leave that there." ?!?!?! I hadn't planned on leaving my "post" so to speak mid-pay just to put the cart back, I can do that on my way out! Maybe she was having a bad day and just needed to vent on someone. My favorite thing about this TJ Maxx is the housewares area. The selection is large and the prices are so cheap! Home decor, furniture, baking and cooking gear, kitchen items like water glasses, wine glasses, rocks glasses, rugs, bedding...I always find something I "need" when I wander through here. The kids toys and clothing areas are really popular, too--the downside of that is that they are often messy, but it's worth it to dig through and give the racks a proper look. The prices just can't be beat. read more

This is NOT your typical Tj Maxx! They have an incredible selection of the top designers around for the cheapest prices you can find. Ann Arbor is full of stores to buy clothing at, so what makes this one different? The loyalty and service cannot be found anywhere else. I was here last weekend shopping around and I was greeted by every single employee that was within ten feet of me! I was shocked by how pleased everyone was to help me and how quickly I was able to find what I was looking for. The store is kept clean and tidy, and I was very impressed with how kind and patience a manager named, Mindy Dunn, was with me. She deserves the best recommendation!! read more

Four stars because this is probably the cleanest and best organized TJ Maxx in the area. They have a great selection of clothing, for both men and women. What's unique about this location is that they have "higher end" apparel and accessories, which you don't see in other stores. Although this location has a scant athletic apparel area this is my go to TJ Maxx whenever I'm looking for an outfit or shoes without having to go to the dreaded mall and pay outrageous prices. read more

Yes, please! Employees are helpful and cheery. Store is tidier than any other TJ Maxx I've been to. The fitting rooms could use better lighting, but the good news is if it looks good in that lighting, it'll look great after you buy it. I especially like the shoes, furniture, pillows, and kitchen sections. Who needs regular stores when u can get great prices and fun designs here..... As a busy mom I have never been a TJ Maxx fan because I never seem to be able to find what I'm looking for, and searching through clothes is too time consuming. This store has changed my opinion, and I shop it regularly. I frequently run into people shopping there who said they drove over an hour just to come to this store! I have always been a bit fan of TJ Maxx. I find that the store in Ann Arbor is like a one stop and shop store. Recently I went to TJ's and as was going through the check-out lane my cashier Shelly M treated me as family. Shelly was courteous and polite and gave me a big smile which really made my day. This TJ Maxx has some great deals on really nice designer clothes, I was there last night shopping for a graduation dress and I found a ton of dresses I loved! I ended up with two that I really liked so I decided to buy them both and wear one to a later event. My initially great experience was pretty much ruined when the person who was checking me out (who I am pretty sure was the manager since she was coordinating other employees) decided to give me a stern lecture about how it is "unethical and gross!" to wear a dress with tags still on and then return it. Ok - I am aware that this is not cool and wasn't planning on doing it but now I would rather take my business somewhere else where they don't yell at you for things that you have not even done as you are trying to give them money. read more
