Quietest and least dense department store here. Not many folks inside. They carry Brooks Brother brand but not much appealing items. Fun pandemic or party cocktails all over, it's a thing during the pandemic. A decent department store, they do carry some different brands from the usual departments. What differentiates Von Maur for me is the service. Mostly the fact that well, they have it. These are not just checkout women and restockers They will actually help you. Shocker. It probably does skew a tad old school. No worries I do too. Trendy is just not a word this place inspires. It is quality though. They do not run a bunch of coupons or anything but the extra touches of wrapping and shipping make up for it for sure. Mostly I use this place as a place to get gifts. It has worked wonderfully every time. It is particularly happy for all my family and friends far away from me. From baby things, items for my nieces and nephew, to things for my 75 yr old auntie, they always seem to have great options followed up by painless free final touches. When you look at the big picture, there is some really good value here. read more

We've received a few gifts from our family in Michigan that shipped without a gift receipt. Each time, Von Maur offered to provide return shipping and exchange/gift card since they do not have a store in our state. We're thankful for the gracious customer service, allowing us to return items without asking the gifter (grandparents and great grandparents) for the original receipt. The latter is a HUGE sigh of relief as we hate seeing things go to waste. read more

The "manager" in the mens formalwear/ dresses division wouldn't let me try on a dress I ordered because I was "too big", would "rip apart the dress at the seams", and was all around incredibly rude. The reason I'm giving Von Maur 5 stars is their excellent customer service, array of unique fashions, and their store credit card: INTEREST FREE so long as you pay 1/5 of the balance...if the purchase you are making is over $400, you can break it down to 1/10 of the balance. NOBODY does this in this day/age - Macy's charge card has an adjusted rate of 86% annual interest (seriously, read the fine print on the statement..it's mind boggling) most store cards are a terrible ripoff, plain and simple. Von Maur might not have the "sale-sale-sale" flyers flooding your mailbox, but they are a top-notch company. Von Maur has an interesting, if somewhat smaller array of fashions. I'd rather have more variety than quantity, so this works well for me -- you won't see 50 versions of one ugly top (like at some other dept. stores). Their shoe dept. is the best in Briarwood - check out their shoe sale room for great deals off-season. I love their fall clothing selections - unique jackets, tops, sweaters not seen elsewhere in town...they are pricier than Macy's/Penny's etc, but hey - I like supporting a company that treats customers like gold. In the spectrum of malls, Briarwood may not have yet reached "sad mall" status, but it's pretty crummy. Yet, I still find myself there a few times a year. And, sometimes I need to get something in particular in a short period of time, and I end up hoping that the mall will be an efficient solution. Von Maur, though not terribly exciting, at least offers a certain level of consistency. It's a bit old-lady-ish. It reminds me of a cross between the old Jacobsen's department store and Lord & Taylor. After being totally perplexed by the shoe department at Macy's (which seemed to cater to either people looking for cheaply made stilettos or boring mom-shoes), my last ditch effort landed me at Von Maur. Staff were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. The stock was well-organized, and within 15 minutes I had found what I needed, tried on 2 colors and sizes, and made my purchase. It's not just the fact that I found some shoes the last time that impressed me. It's just that multiple times when I have gotten flustered and given up on other stores here, I've been pleasantly surprised by Von Maur. The price point is a bit high for me, and I doubt I'm their target demographic, but don't totally count this store out... particularly if you're getting flustered in the rest of the mall. read more

Amazing customer service! I will always pay the extra money to go to Von Maur because the service is impeccable. I went in one day and needed to get a shirt to wear out that night. Everyone from work was going out and I didn't have anything to wear but my work shirt (which is blue). I worked with a girl named Katie (who was amazing) and I told her my story, she went around the Polo section glancing for something that might work. She grabbed a button up that was mainly pink but had yellow and blue striping. She mentioned that the blue match my work shirt and I could easily just wear it over my work shirt. I then told her the shirt was too wrinkly and I couldn't wear it out without stopping home to iron it and if I was going to stop home I would grab a short from my closet. She took the shirt in the back for me and ironed it! I couldn't believe it. I have gone back to Von Maur so many times since then. They will also gift wrap your purchases free also. Gabriel, the manager at men and kids dept. was a delight and made the exchange easy so that I did not need to bother my mom. Love love the shoe room. And this would be the primary reason I visit Von Maur 70% of the time. Otherwise, it has to be that something special I am looking for - items for myself or for the children. My daughter needed a special dress for her first recital not too long ago. Von Maur selection in the children's department came to the rescue. My daughter loves dresses & sometimes the run-of-the-mill looks you find in other locations (no names will be mentioned) don't cut it. You can definitely find some unique looks in the children's department (clothing upstairs & shoes on main floor) that are down right cute. And if you're lucky - you may find a good deal on the sale rack.. We've also found good quality kids' pajamas, winter coats (off season), boys' dress clothes, and of course the shoes... I haven't issues with the service. Though I cannot recall it being stellar. Though, the shoe room folks usually work hard to find the mate to the shoe you pick for you to try on. Prices, of course, while they are not necessarily competitive, they are acceptable and --- especially because you have abundant inventory & decent service --- probably well worth what an average item costs. I've also heard that they offer free alterations - though I have yet to try this service out. Finally, perhaps my favorite part is hearing the live pianist in action at select times of the week (or day?). I always imagine my children will hear the pianist playing a popular tune & become more motivated to practice their own piano lessons... read more

For me this is another store of mystery. Who would buy this stuff? Where would they wear it to? I never see anyone dressed in anything like the clothes here. Is it for teenagers? Old ladies? My usual cluelessness kicks in, and I never go into this store anymore even when I'm just wandering around B'wood. My favorite Department Store. The clearance rack is heaven! The new markdowns happen on Thursdays and the further markdowns happen on Wednesdays. I suggest going on Friday and then you have all the newest and lowest markdowns to choose from. They ship for free in the US. I use this service all the time sending to my out of town family and the packages are wrapped and delivered all for free! Amazing! Von Maur is great 66% of the year. Clean. Organized. Not trying to push their credit cards or useless coupons (hint-Macys). Free gift wrap and shipping. helpful in finding items at other stores in your size. The other 33% of the year is a different story. They begin putting out their holiday decorations in early September! I have literally been shopping there in shorts when they start this insanity. At halloween, they start playing the Christmas Music. Personally, I don't like to have Christmas shoved down my throat for 1/3 of the year. I heard an employee tell a customer, just yesterday, that yes, it seems early but that's only because of the good weather weve been having. She also said "It;s nice to get an early start on the holiday shopping." Really! Do we need Von Maur to remind us of holiday obligations?! So helpful-get us shopping for our benefit. I just HAVE to tell you about my latest shopping experience at the Von Maur in Briarwood Mall... my husband & I were shopping for the kids' Christmas presents & of course, found all kinds of cute clothes- most of which were on sale at a great discount! Our salesperson was extremely patient, helpful & took great pride in making sure that every last detail was correct. Went in to purchase my son a few winter clothes for this blistering cold weather that we are currently encountering. While the selection was nice the young lady in the children's section was awful. If my memory serves me correct she said her name is Sheranda. My intention was to be in and out within a few minutes yet she did nothing but socialize with her coworker. FINALLY when I checked out she had the nerve to have an attitude , like she's the one who has been waiting forever. Regardless of the selection that customer service was the poorest I've ever encountered! They have excellent customer service and are willing to help you (they have super hemming on clothing items, great service in the shoe department, will assist in seeking out the 'perfect' outfit, will help you find the perfect-fitting bra, will search for items in other stores if necessary, etc.). Having worked in retail my whole career, I find Von Maur less than I'd hoped for. The store is ok, but the service is mediocre. I do object to he company's archaic policy of prohibiting dress slacks for women employees. This must be an old boy's ultra-conservative company. If that's their core philosophy, I'm shopping elsewhere. There are more places to patronize than one which promotes chauvinism. read more

I originally came into the mall to look at a pair of UGGs. I walked through the shoe section and wasn't greeted. In the salespeople's defense they were busy with other people. I figured I would just try again on the way out of the mall. I ended up buying a pair of UGGs from Journey because their customer service was over the top! On the way back to my car I saw a pair of boots I liked, I asked a sales person if I could try them on. They were so cute, but didn't fit my calf. I told her I always have trouble finding boots, she was so nice and said don't worry I will find you something. After going to the back she found three pairs of boots. To my surprise one pair actually fit, but unfortunately they weren't comfortable. She went back and tried again bringing out a few more pairs. Those didn't fit either. The sales girl was very kind and because of her I decided not to write off Von Maur completely. read more

I head straight for Von Maur when visiting family in Ann Arbor. It's a great store comparable to Bloomingdales and Nordstrom here in NJ. I've found Judith Jack, Lauren, Pendleton (hard to find!) and other top quality brands. It's nice that it's located in a convenient spot where parking isn't a problem. read more
