We absolutely love Dear Golden! The staff is uplifting and shows you things you wouldn't normally go for. The array and variety of brands and vintage, is to die for! I could spend an entire day here. I wish they were open Monday's as that is my day off but... always come down on weekends when I can. I emailed the owner looking for a dress I had previously tried on in store and she had it available and ready online to purchase immediately! That timing was rare and special! I received it four days later! All the reviews about staff being snobby.... I don't understand at all. My partner and I travel to different shops such as this across the US and collect unique items... there are snobby people but dear golden... they aren't them. People reviewing saying they are, now that sounds snobby. I wish dear golden all the best and can't wait to return. read more

The reason I am posting this review on Yelp is specifically because of the response my Google review got (see attached screenshot). I kind of expected ridiculously high prices, it is Ann Arbor after all, but these prices were absurd. What I don't expect is to be ridiculed by the owner because of a simple spelling mistake. Like I said, thier priorities are backwards with no attempt to rectify the situation, only to make it worse after the fact online. I wish I could get paid to sit on my butt all day and ignore customers. At least I was greeted by a lady yelling from the back, but that is considered the bare minimum, just as another 1 star review is. If I could give 0 I would especially now after realizing this is how they respond to potential customers. I will never go back. The vulgar music that was being played throughout the store was my biggest concern at the time, but now it has shifted to the way they responded to me online. If you must buy from them (still way overpriced, I don't know why you would) order from etsy and don't subject yourself to being ignored and annoyed by incompetent store staff. After reading some of these other reviews here I am certain they had to deal with this same person, and it was probably the same person who made the condescending reply to my first review (see picture). I have a hunch that most of these 5 star reviews are either from the staff themselves trying to counter the honest ones or by someone who didn't have to deal with the lack of customer service that I experienced. If you're the owner of the place and you are reading this, please reconsider who you choose to be the face of the store, they are driving your customers away. If in fact the owner was the only one in the store today, and the subject of all the other 1 star reviews here, I would recommend closing your store and finding a new line of business because you are clearly not equipped customer service. read more

I love visiting this local Ann Arbor vintage shop. The space is beautifully arranged and the shop window is constantly changing to highlight the beautifully curated items inside. My favorite pieces are the jewelry and on occasion there are also some great home accessories. Lately I've been on a vintage sterling silver ring kick and my family and I dropped in for Mother's Day and left with two beautiful rings to add to my collection. I've always had a very positive experience with the salesperson. She's always taken her time to show me pieces from the case and is very friendly. I'll be back again soon. My mother saw a window display a few weeks ago and wanted to try on a coat but didn't get around to it right away, so we stopped in and as my mother started to try on a coat and handed her coat to me to hold, one of the owners grabbed her coat out of my hand and said "Oh I'll put that on the counter" as she proceeded to look through my moms coat before tossing it on the counter. I have never been met by friendly staff at this store and witnessing this event, will never go back. Very poor customer service when you alienate your customers by making assumptions, especially customers of color. A local business I will never support. I would like to add, it's also unfortunate that your first response was edited and you told me "not to come back again". Yes I saw that original response. Don't worry though, we won't. I LOVE dear golden so much. I live nearby and love to browse and have bought a few amazing dresses here. In regards to the negative reviews, I actually really love how laid back and relaxed the owner/staff are. They give you plenty of space so you can drift around and experience all the wonders in this treasure trove. There is never any pressure to buy which means its a much more relaxing retail experience. And if you have any questions, they are so helpful and happy to teach you about the pieces. They are truly excited when item fits and works for a shopper. All the pieces I have bought from them were in absolutely fantastic condition and I love to wear them! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I totally would. Where do I start? I heard very good things about this place and how beautiful the dresses were. I was excited for another vintage shop to come downtown. Upon waking in, the MOST unfriendly rudest human responded to my saying hello with an eye roll. She did not greet me, she seemed irritated to have business. Moving past I decided to look around regardless. Her dresses are beautiful but for vintage & quality they are too overpriced. I proceed to find a skirt I liked, no tag, ripped and broken. I asked her the price. She freaked out, grabbed it from me told me that it was not a skirt but a crinoline and that it went to a very important dress in her store. She did not even offer to show me the dress. All in all I left seriously disappointed. I don't know how she thinks she is going to survive in a town being so rude and unfriendly. I will never go back, no matter how badly I wanted the skirt. read more

I was very excited that Dear Golden opened a brick and mortar store in my neighborhood. I have been a longtime follower of Dear Golden via her Etsy store and love all of her vintage pieces. While the store is highly curated and has beautiful pieces, the customer service is HORRIBLE. Every time I walk into the store, the girl at the front desk greets you with a cold look. It makes the customer feel that she/he is an imposition in the store. Additionally, several vintage pieces are overpriced. Comparable items can be found online for cheaper (not the $245 price tag for a mod vintage dress). I wouldn't recommend that brick and mortar for the sheer rudeness of the employees alone. read more

Three words: OMG! The ever changing window line always catches my eye every time I walk by that pure white storefront; I think it's the nicest window display in Ann Arbor. Going into Dear Golden is like walking into a wearable museum. This is the nicest, classist, most tastefully curated vintage store I've been in. They also started doing more jewelry and home goods too which don't stay around long so I always see something new they have put out. I also like that the owner and Jasmine (love her) are never pushy or walking around trying to up sell me things they know don't fit quite right or don't match my hair. To the contrary, when I need any help they will whisk into the changing room to tie up that corset one more half inch if I give them a little wink. Finally, I love that they are extremely knowledgeable about the historical significance of the clothes and jewelry. They know all the top--and lesser known albeit important--designers of the various periods and they have encyclopedic breadth of why the clothes were designed and worn. With all the nice articles in there, makes me wonder what's in her storage...guess I'll just have to wait and come back soon. read more

This is a very special place. Lauren, the owner, started out online and through her impeccable taste and incredibly diligent work ethic, she quickly rose to become a star of online vintage peddling. And then, much to her local customer's delight, she opened a brick and mortar. And not just any brick and mortar... I mean, where do I even start? The incredible selection of clothing and jewelry from every vintage era? The beautiful and stylish interior of the shop which makes me feel like a glamorous starlet every time I walk inside? The thoughtful and generous attitude of both Lauren and her adorable and accomplished helper, Michelle? I loved the online shop because I could browse through Lauren's gorgeous vintage at my own pace, ogling and drooling over each new item. It has only gotten better. I have always felt welcomed into Lauren's shop, free to chat or to silently flip through the racks, again, at my own pace. What's more, Lauren often will bring out special pieces that she knows I'll love--and I've seen her do this with new customers, too. She just has a great eye for what will flatter your body shape and your style. I have to put in a good word about the music selection, too--and the light filtering in through the windows--and the tastefully arranged bouquet of lavender (or craspedia, or whatever struck her eye that day) by the door--honestly, the overall impression I get is that I'm walking into my very stylish older sister's apartment in New York. I feel at once totally at ease, as though I'm in a family member's home, and also secretly jealous of her superior taste and style, and incredulous at how she manages to pull it all off so effortlessly! The BEST vintage boutique I have EVER been to in my life! Lauren knows her stuff--she has an eye for beauty and rare pieces. Honestly that store is like a museum for vintage clothing. She has an amazing selection anywhere from the roaring 20's to the radical 80's! She only buys and sells pieces that are in immaculate condition, so you never have to worry about quality--but perfection comes at a price $$. Realistically though, these dresses are one of a kind pieces so it all evens out in the end. Her pieces tend to run on the smaller side, because she tends to harbor a larger collection of 20's-50's dresses and the ladies back then were VERY tiny (25-26 inch waist was relatively standard; about a size XS-S) Lauren will also be very honest with you if she thinks the dress will fit you or not--ladies do NOT take offense! It's just a matter of keeping the gowns pristine as possible :) though if you wish to try on a dress I am sure she will be more than happy to honor your wishes--but if it doesn't fit she is super good at finding something that will! I am moving to Ann Arbor this summer so I cannot wait to do more shopping here!! :) it's honestly my favorite store in all of ever-dome!! read more

I was excited to check out the brick and mortar store. I came in after lunch around 1:00 and started browsing. At first, I thought the owner was just busy but then she literally never said anything to me. She just talked to what I assumed was another worker about this and that for the 20 minutes I was browsing. I felt like it was really rude. I was wearing a tee shirt and a backpack so maybe she thought I was a poor student but even if I was, that's no reason to ignore a potential buyer. The jewelry was cute but like hell I am going to buy something after being ignored. On a separate note, I thought the clothes were too twee. They weren't in the condition I would expect for a no-brand dress from the 50s that was priced at $200+. Additionally there were some dresses that aren't even vintage that you can get in better condition at Nordstrom right now--looking at you, Adrianna Papell sequined blouson dress. I live in San Francisco where prices are unimaginably ridiculous and I still did a double take when I saw the tags. If you want clothes you can get at Modcloth but with holes and stains all while being treated like you're a pariah, then go for it. I'll be at the Salvation Army where the ambiance is terrible but you're still treated like a human. read more

I came here for the first time on Sunday since I was next door at Le Bon Macaron and wanted to see what this store was like. I love their taste and color schemes. I wish Yelp would allow negative stars, now that would be helpful with reviews, especially with this store. I can't understand why the owner has this store when she makes you feel so unwelcome? I went in here for the second time, thinking maybe the first time I came in, she was having a bad day, but lo and behold, the same rude attitude. I also noticed that some of the dresses for sale here, must have been purchased from one of the other vintage stores in town and marked up at a much higher price here, that was very tacky. All the prices are so sky high here, one has to remember, even though vintage clothes is wonderful, it's still used and more likely to rip and tear easily, so you would think the prices would be lower. I will not be coming here again, there's nothing worse for a girl to feel un-welcome when she shops. read more

I should have started my wedding dress adventure here! I ordered several online and all of them disappointed. Literally the first dress I tried on at Dear Golden was THE ONE. It was everything I wanted all in one and it fit like a dream. Lauren was like a personal stylist, bringing other options to try and then belts, sashes, jewelry to accessorize. It was SO FUN! Lauren has an uncanny ability to look at a dress and tell you if it will fit you or not. I am always impressed. As a fashion designer, I have to add that this shop is my only opportunity to look at the incredible hand work and design details in person. Work lost with machine sewing and mass production. My visit to the shop left me with so much more then an incredible wedding ensemble. I am rejuvenated and inspired as an artist. Seems that sizes run small - typically of vintage right?!! However, there is still something for every women here: incredible jewelry, hats, shoes... and if you don't see it ask because there is some magical den in the back out of which more and more treasures materialize. Every item in the shop is a work of art, so I encourage anyone going in to be gentle with the treasures! Prices were great for what you get - for me a one of a kind wedding dress was half the cost of the one I ordered from J Crew. And SO MUCH better. I truly trust that pricing reflects the quality of the garments. This is no thrift shop, this is hand-picked top notch vintage that you cant find anywhere else. This is a beautiful addition to Ann Arbor and a serious specialty store for vintage shoppers. It feels very much like a showroom as everything is tasteful and carefully curated. The styling and jewelry selection are impeccable. Tags include pricing and what decade/era pieces are from. An Ann Arbor favorite. Satisfies all of my vintage cravings. While I usually don't look closely at their special occasion dresses, I love that they always have a great selection of coach bags, shoes, and jewelry. I usually stop in at least once a month even if it's just to browse the beautifully curated collection and check out what new things they've gotten in. I would love if they stocked more casual clothing - sweaters, pants (jeans?) etc because that's usually what I am most into over the fancy (beautiful) dresses, but that's just personal preference. Also, the staff can be a little "hands off" while you're looking, but I like this. The woman who is always working when I go in there is super sweet and chill, so it makes the experience fun and not at all intimidating. Go check it out and swoon over beautiful things! read more

This is a total gem in a somewhat dry vintage scene in A2. Lauren, the proprietor, certainly knows her stuff and it shows in the beautifully curated wares in her shop downtown. I always loved her shop in Ypsilanti and am so pleased Dear Golden is even more accessible to ladies looking for gorgeous vintage clothing. Be sure to ask Lauren for suggestions for your body type/size; she is amazing at it for sure. Bonus also is that she knows every piece in the store. The jewelry in the shop is to die for as well. Dear Golden has curated one of the finest collection of vintage clothing and jewelry I have ever come across. What amazes me most is that you can find many different styles from different decades; and with all of these different styles and unique pieces the store is put together so neatly that you can find things easily and everything seems to be in it's right spot. The staff is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I usually go to Dear Golden for vintage jewelry, they have the most amazing rings. This is one of my most favorite shops for clothing. It has a mix of beautiful vintage pieces and the shop is very charming and beautiful. This store has nice clothing, but horrific customer service. After asking if I could try on a dress, the salesperson said "of course" but then stopped in her tracks, looked at me and gawked. I was asked rudely about what size clothing I could wear and if I really thought I would fit into the dress. Essentially, she told me I was far too fat to try the dress on, in one of the rudest ways possible. If the woman working thought I was going to break the dress by trying it on, there are many ways she could have told me not to politely.
