I've been to Pitaya on and off throughout the years. They have a Royal Oak location too I think, or at least they used to. Clothing is organized by color (and the Type A person in me really likes that, lol) and they also have a sale rack too. Salespeople are usually friendly as well. I got a bunch of stuff on sale here last year and it's all lasted really well. Two lace bralettes that I wear fairly often - no fraying or stretching out. A black jumpsuit with lace insets - same as above, lace is in good shape, fits well. Black lace shorts - I've worn these a LOT and they're still in great shape except for bit of fraying inside the zipper on the back and a few loose threads where things have caught on the lace. Their selection is not the widest, but I like how things are organized by color and they do have really good sales. Lots of trendy cute things. read more

Horrible customer service. "Rules" seemed to apply only to some of the customers who used the fitting room. I was told they needed to hold my purse before I could try something on. MY PURSE! Never have I shopped somewhere that wanted to hold onto my personal belongings... and trust me my purse was no duffel bag. read more

Not to challenge the previous review here, but, Pitaya is worth a trip or three. No, it's not as cheap as Macy's might be. Yes, you can get similar items at Forever 21. But the clothing is *cute.* And it's also right here... you don't have to hop seven ill-timed AATA buses and rush your trip to get back to downtown before the bus system stops running, and you brave doing the multi-mile trek along Main Street in the dead of summer or winter or road construction. But about Pitaya. Clothing, clothing, clothing, a few accessories (jewelry, make-up, shoes, belts), a sale rack. Organized by color, articles of clothing on the rack stretch from S to L and magically the piece you like is always available in your size. Honest. This clothing is clothing to be seen wearing. You probably won't find something here to wear to an interview (granted that goes for Forever 21), but you'll find a lot to wear out to dinners, class, and events with friends. Expect to spend between $22 and $28 on a shirt, maybe $35 for a dress. Leggings are $8, shoes are around $24, make-up $4 a piece. I'd much rather shop here than American Apparel or Urban Outfitters, both of which are waaaay more expensive, and don't have as eclectic a selection. read more

(or at least feel too old to shop there anymore). SImply put, Pitaya is fantastic for any young woman looking for trendy clothing. The staff is always friendly to me when I come in and are always eager to help me if I need a different size or color. The store is very organized and easy to browse through as well. The racks are organized by color, very appealing to the eye. What I like most about Pitaya is that the store carries QUALITY clothing. To those who believe that Pitaya is comparable to Forever 21, think again. Pitaya buys from brands like Lush and Everly, which can be found at Nordstrom. I bought a Lush dress three years ago at Pitaya and the dress continued to be a staple of my summer wardrobe. To those thinking that Pitaya is too expensive: check out their sale rack! They almost always have a buy one get one 50% off for clearance items. Only complaint is the return policy- no returns, only exchanges or store credit. All sale is final sale. read more

My review is based on the bright red pleather bag I got here for $47 made by "let them eat cake", the one that I get compliments on *every* time I use it. It pretty much rocks. Forget about the other reviews, check it out for yourself. It's not super high quality stuff, but it's interesting, looks good and the prices aren't super high either. What a cute little boutique! Love their selection! They have the most unique pieces and everything is in right now! Also, if you are looking to add pieces to your closet that you don't see everywhere this is the place. They had so many cute skirts, jeans and dresses! Their sunglasses and jewelry selection was also very beautifully curated. Loved the service too. Young lady that helped me was super nice, made small talk, made sure I had the right sizes and helped me pick out jewelry. It was overall a super pleasant experience. I will definitely stop by again. Oh, Pitaya. I understand completely what you are trying to do... Michigan's campus is riddled with independent boutiques selling "contemporary women's fashion" which basically means overpriced casual wear and nighttime looks. So you come along, and basically do the same thing, except you sell Forever 21-type quality items for double the price. Granted, it was about time a retailer who didn't sell Michigan gear opened up on State Street, but the fact that you occupy the same space as the now deceased Shaman Drum, you had a lot of standards to meet, and quite frankly, you didn't meet any of them. So, long story short: Save you money, and get down to Briarwood mall (or Novi if you're able to) and go to the Forever 21 there. You'll save about 30 bucks and look just as cute. read more

I guess i'm one of the few, I really liked my experience at the store. The staff was friendly and they had a great selection. I personally felt many of the items to be a better quality than forever 21, of course like most stores you have to look. Yes they may be higher in price on some items but they are a small business, not a major corporation. Show some love people, they have to keep their doors open too read more

I do love the location of this store. State Street has some nice shopping, and I miss living in Ann Arbor where you can walk everywhere...But personally, I have to agree with those of you who say Pitaya is like a more expensive version of Forever 21. The two reasons I love Forever 21 are because of their good prices and their wide selection. Since Pitaya has neither, I can't bring myself to give it any higher than two stars. When this place first opened, I heard so many people telling me how amazing it is and how they were happy that one finally came to Ann Arbor. So, needless to say, I had some pretty high hopes for this store. But when I decided to check it out, I quickly realized that the quality of the fabric is not worth what you pay. Even the sale items are not on that much of a sale. Sure, if I had been making money at the time I may have bought a thing or two, but there wasn't a whole lot that really caught my eye. read more

It is a forever 21 type of store, nothing comparing to other boutiques on campus, such as Bivouac and YCL. But things here are cheap though, you get what you pay for. I found that Pitaya was not for me. Some of their clothing was tacky and outdated. However, their items were not overpriced. They don't have a large selection but there is much clothing located on their sales racks. If you're looking for more fashion forward items I would recommend walking a few hundred feet down the street to urban. read more

I've had okay luck here in the past when needing a cheap dress in a pinch, but my last experience there was bad enough to make me not want to shop there again. The staff was one of the rudest I've ever come across. They barely greet you when you walk in, and then proceed to give you nasty looks from the counter like high school girls. They made rude comments to the friend who I was with, and seemed very judgmental and immature. When I asked them for help with a fitting room, they seemed annoyed and sarcastic. This has been an issue every time I've been there over the past few years. Is it required for the staff to be rude and snotty to all customers? When I went to check out, the cashier ignored me and then acted surprised when I asked her for help. Even after asking her for help, she continued working on something else while I stood there waiting. Aside from the awful staff, their clothes are cheaply made (Forever 21 quality) but two or three times the price. I've purchased a few dresses from there, only to have them tear or break after wearing them once. Don't waste your money on low quality clothing and horrible staff- go somewhere where they actually treat you with respect and where your money will be well spent. read more

As a former employee and shopper of this store, not worth it. Clothes try to seem good quality and worth their price, but they're basically rebranded clothes that you can find at Forever 21 or H&M but for twice the price. If you want good quality clothes that are worth the price, I highly suggest Verbana or Urban Outfitters. Pitaya is nothing special. read more

When you walk into their store you see clothing left to right. Beautiful clothing i must admit but its not worth the money. i was at pitaya with my friend and we saw a skirt (i had the same skirt from forever 21) when i say the same i mean all the same but only the difference was the price the one from forever 21 was 10 dollars the one from pitaya was 36. I've been meaning to stop in this store for a while now. The window displays always have such cute clothes and brightly colored bags. Finally I made my way in there expecting to find some awesome things. Clothes and such are reasonable priced and sales items are a great deal (but not returnable at all). Sadly I was disappointed with this store and left with only a scarf. First off the store is organized by color. Which sounds like a good idea but when I'm looking for a dress, I now have to go to every rack and rummage through everything on there. While this isn't too much of an issue, the store is relatively small and if I was short on time I definitely wouldn't want to shop like this. Second; No bags are allowed in the fitting rooms. While this doesn't sound like a big deal that you are not to take outside shopping bags into a fitting room, you are also not allowed to take your purse in there. I'm very attached to my purse, especially since it has all my money in it, and was very uncomfortable leaving it out behind the counter. They have a very high tech system of giving you a number and then putting a clothes pin with a matching number on your bag. The bags then sit out on a shelf, where everyone can see them, while you are in the fitting room. How am I supposed to be sure someone is not trying to switch bags or gets handed mine by mistake? Third; the sales people were not friendly or helpful. I received a short hello when I entered the store but that was pretty much the extent of customer service I got. I had to find someone to let me into a fitting room, which was surprisingly difficult considering the size of the store. You have a hard time determining who is working and who is shopping. While there were some great clothes here and I'm glad downtown is getting some new clothing stores I probably wont be returning here. read more

The quality of the clothing is not worth the price. In addition, the customer service is awful. I feel guilt of stealing before I've stepped two feet in the door. Once a sales person walked in on me in a fitting room because she had started mixing up who was in a fitting room vs. who she had "started" a room for. I feel invasive when I go into the store, and as a result I am not willing to spend my money there. read more

Pitaya on State Street was one of the best clothing stores for young women that I have ever been to! As a college student, I'm always looking for new pieces to wear when going out with my friends, and Pitaya always has TONS of trendy options available. People keep saying that the clothing is at Forever 21 level, but everything I've bought from Pitaya has been super durable and lasts way longer than anything I've bought from Forever 21, which is why I don't mind spending $5-$10 more. Plus, it's still the cheapest women's fashion store on State Street, especially compared to Verbena and Urban Outfitters, which are much more expensive. Overall, Pitaya is a great store. Even their employees were super friendly and helpful! Will definitely be a favorite store of mine while I'm a student in Ann Arbor. read more
