When I lived in Chicago, I loved Nordstrom Rack. Once I found a Nordstrom Rack in Ann Arbor MI, I fell in love again! I happened upon NR when traffic was horrendous on Washtenaw. Best way to avoid a traffic jam was shopping! I found things I didn't know I needed and also a lot of professional clothing that I definitely needed. The selection ranged from casual to professional and everything in between. Also found some great shoes! The prices were really good for the value of items. I even bought sunglasses and mascara. They had it all! The only downside is that, imo, there was not enough refreshing of inventory over time. They were great about things I needed to return, but a month later I saw a lot of the same things I had seen on my previous visit. The first visit, you may be blown away, but maybe let some time pass before your next visit to allow for additional inventory. Still love this store for value and designer items! A lifetime ago, I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and would occasionally shop at the Nordstrom mother ship. Shopping there was always an experience, but the quality of that experience would largely be driven by the particular associate who was helping you. I had great experiences in suits and coats. Less good experiences with shoes. Nordstrom Rack can also be hit or miss depending on the store's selection on any given day. Service plays a much less important role, in that it scarcely exists. But this is not a bad thing. Being able to shop the shoes on one's own time without the presence of an associate can sometimes be a very freeing thing. As a person with large feet, I find the selection to be better than the discount clothing competitors. My kids like being able to shop for shoes without regard to the footwear's assigned gender, and this store presents itself as a great option. What I have found, on the whole, is that clothes are both more expensive and less well made than they have been in the past. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man. As a result, I'm reluctant to pay a lot for clothes, and Nordstrom Rack is a very good place to look for needed items first. If I come up empty, I'm happy to go to some locally owned store. And I do come up empty quite a bit. But that's the way shopping goes. I am constantly amazed that some people go clothes shopping for fun, but I go grocery shopping for fun, so who am I to judge. read more

07/08/2020 Rude, unhelpful employees, what VERY few there are. I came in in dire need of some nice clothes for a job that I don't own any appropriate clothing for, and while I found clothes that would have worked, there were literally like 3 people working the whole floor, so the dressing rooms were closed, and when I came to politely ask what I could do about that, they mumbled some words at me, along the lines of "dressing rooms open when theres employees" and left it at that. Negative 2 star experience, thanks for being the only affordable clothing store in Ann Arbor that doesn't sell UO quality crap, but still managing to fuck up my whole work week . read more

I'm not much of a reviewer but this place has just gone downhill. The first few years they were open you could find decent items.. popular brands in varying sizes. . Now it's just filled with clearance racks full of junk. More comparable to a garage sale than Nordstrom. I truly don't know how the store stays open. read more

My first trip here was right before they closed and it was a bit unfriendly and creepy. My bad. I just couldn't resist. I came here earlier the second round and stayed until they almost closed again. The prices are not as low here as I have seen at other Racks. This stuff is cheap compared to Nordstrom but not a real bargain as a general rule. The setup is good, same hit or miss availablity and needing to hunt for gems and the checkout people seem friendly and helpful enough once you manage to find their locale. It just is missing something. It doesn't thrill me, I'm just not very anxious to go back. I've been to many a Nordstrom Rack, all over the country, and this location is my favorite! The store is clean and well organized. The accessories section is amazing. Tons of scarves, handbags, and jewelry at discounted rates. The designer shoe section is large and they have as many in size 11 as they do in other sizes. The men's section is large and features everything one could need. They have great deals on luggage pieces, too. I find something useful (not just impulse buys) every time I visit. read more

Somewhat cheap, fast tailoring here if your items came from Nordstrom, but you get what you pay for. I had originally taken my clothing to another privately owed alteration place since I needed something finished in a few days, but the owner said unfortunately she couldn't finish it by the day of the event. Therefore, I took my clothing to Nordstrom Rack for alterations. It was finished within a few days without an extra charge for the rush, but I was really disappointed with the quality of the alterations. The original stitching for my dress was about 1-2mm between each hole, but when Nordstrom altered it, they didn't bother even to vaguely follow the original stitching pattern and made a slightly crooked, extremely widely spaced stitching pattern (about 1cm between each hole), which indicates that they're either really really short on time or do not care enough about customers to take the proper time to sew fabric back together. There is also a section of my dress that is slightly bunched and uneven now (probably only noticeable to 5% of people), and that was also frustrating. I know it's a hassle for customers to request that something be altered within a few days, but I think if you don't have the time to properly alter an article of clothing, you should be upfront about the fact that the stitching will be more hasty and messy-looking. I know you can give your altered items back to Nordstrom and have them alter it again for free until you're happy, but I was so incredibly disappointed with the first round of alterations that I figured that perhaps the tailoring department is just either 1) too overloaded and pressured to take on way more alterations than they can handle or 2) improperly managed in such a way that the employees completing the alterations are not motivated to provide half-decent alterations. If you have cheap articles of clothing I would recommend the cheaper privately owned alteration stores around the city. For more expensive items, I recently had two pants altered at Quality Alterations and was extremely impressed with the quality of the work and the pride the owner has in her services. read more

Super glad that Nordstom decided to put a Rack closer to me! No more driving 50 minutes through terrible traffic to get there! I went in looking for sheets. They carry them in Troy but I guess they don't in Ann Arbor. Not that it mattered. I really just wanted to check it out. The store is pretty big and well laid out. It was easy to see what they have even while standing at the front door. There seemed to be quite a selection of every product. The prices were okay. I've seen them lower at other locations but this store is brand new. I checked the shoes for my husband. He's a size 15 and The Rack is one of the few stores that carry his size. There were TONS of them. I picked out my shoes and headed to the register. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't much of a wait. They were really getting people out of there quick! Weird part #1...Registers were at the side of the store instead of near the exit doors. Weird part #2...The music is really loud. Weird part #3...The parking lots was JAMMED!!!! read more

I came here with my lady. Didn't want to buy anything, tried to find a chair. Found no chair. But I did find a shirt, so in the end I walked out with a $40 shirt (I thought it would be cheaper!?) and she left without finding anything. The cash registers are in an odd location, you head to the exit.. and scratch your head as you can't seem to find one. Also if you stand in line to check out, you can just as easily have a worker check you out using their iPod POS systems in random areas. read more

Quick summary - decent, but not super cheap prices. Selection is hit and miss both in terms of sizing and styles. Good for cheap bras, especially if you're not in the typical 32-38 A-D range. Nordstrom rack is not cheap. Kohl's, JCP, etc all tend to be cheaper, even though this is Nordstrom's "discount" store. That said, the prices are a lot more appealing than those at Nordstrom, and I've found that a lot of the clothing tends to be higher quality than those at cheaper stores, though that isn't always the case. This specific Nordstrom Rack isn't the biggest, but it's still got a decent selection. I like that the shoes are generally still in boxes, unlike the Nordstrom Rack at Woodfield mall (IL) where the shoe section is basically a bunch of loose shoes thrown randomly on racks. However, I've looked here for dress shirts for my boyfriend a couple times, and we have yet to find one that fits him well. Barring fit, most of the shirt patterns are either too "old man" or too loud for him anyway. I used to buy bras here quite often. The clearance rack is something else. You can find all these bras that originally sold for $60+ for $10 or less. Sure you can buy cheap bras at target/walmart, but a perk here is that they have a huge size range - bands start at 30, cups well beyond DD+. Granted the selection is hit and miss, but I've never had trouble finding something for me. Until now, that is. It appears that Nordstrom is starting to scale back massively on my size. Not cool... I have a gift card from the holidays, so I'll be back at the very least to use that. If things don't pick up on the bra situation, however, I'm going to be back much less frequently than used to be the case. read more

I am so thrilled that there is a new Nordstrom Rack located right in Arborland! They have an unlimited number of top designer clothing and accessories offered at a DISCOUNTED price! And often times they have decreased the price even further than before. I also love the fact that I can buy everything I want and try it on at home and not make the decision in the store because their return policy is great! You can return regardless of time! I thought it was pretty horrible that this store has an extensive men's suit collection and NO women's suits (except for a few in clearance). Seriously? The clothes otherwise are mediocre and not organized all that well. Activewear is nice but expensive. Really the redeeming thing about the store is the designer shoe collection, which I found to be just great. I don't think they had much by way of housewares and the accessories were mostly very low quality. read more

This Nordstrom Rack is quite wonderful! SOO many top designers and on trend styles. I bought way too much per usual, but have no regrets per usual as well. The return policy is GREAT where you can literally return anything regardless of timeframe. I heard a lady next to me at the register return some pants after THREE YEARS! I am a HUGE fan of Nordstrom- and hearing about a Nordstrom Rack in Ann Arbor was a treat to me! Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack always has great return policies, the staff is always very friendly, and the store is well organized. At the Rack you can find designer items for a fraction of the cost- and if anything goes wrong bring it to Nordstrom department story and they will have it repaired for you. I had a longchamp bag that I bought at a Nordstrom rack a few years ago and the corners started ripping. I took it into a Nordstrom department store and they sent it to get it fixed and shipped it back to my house! The only disappointment about this particular location is the lack of dresses they have for women! They have a very small selection. read more

Nordstrom Rack has a great selection of "higher-end" apparel that is fairly discounted from the market value. My favorite section of the store is the shoes, as I can find some pretty great brands for a good price. However, they're lacking in other areas such as men's clothing and make-up. You really have to dig to find a gem, as the racks are crowded and a bit unorganized. I wish they had a better selection of work wear for women. Far too many casual clothing options. Be careful using your debit card here. If you have less funds available than you thought, they won't just decline the card. They will hold all of the funds available in that account for nearly a week - even if you use another form of payment. read more

Worst Nordstrom Rack I have ever been in. They don't carry very many products for men that are smaller (28" waist), the store seems unorganized, and the worst part is their seamstress. He is rude, doesn't speak very good English, and the prices for alterations is far above most other places. I went to get jeans hemmed and they want $22 for jeans that were purchased at Nordstrom or $44 for jeans purchased elsewhere. I had 4 pairs of jeans and they came out to $139 with tax. I ended up getting a refund and taking them elsewhere to get hemmed. Since this is how they treat their loyal Nordstrom customers I will never shop at this location and will think twice about going back to other Nordstrom stores. read more

5 stars for Nordstrom's customer service, 4 stars for quality control. I bought a coat in December for my teenage daughter, she gently wore it for about 3 weeks and then the zipper broke. Not only the zip, but the track too broke off in pieces. It's not cheap to replace an entire zipper. I returned to the store, by now I had only the emailed receipt, not actual tags. I figured I'd be denied but what the heck. I was really impressed, they had no qualms with giving me a store credit. Thank you Nordstroms, very nice! Amy the Manager is outstanding and Steve, the Tailor is also outstanding! Their Customer Service is exceptional!!! I purchased a Michael Kors coat in 2013. The zipper started to malfunction at the end of the season. In 2014, I took the coat to local cleaners and other tailors to replace it, and none could do it because of snaps on the sides that needed to be taken off and put back on to replace the zipper. So I phoned Nordstrom's Rack in Ann Arbor and Amy graciously offered to have her tailor repair it. It took him 3 hours. The job was beautifully and effectively executed. Amy and Steve are first class and their customer service skills are unsurpassed. Thank you!!! read more

The AA store is very small, limited selection and the shoe aisles are sooo small, you can barely move down them if anyone else is in the same row. They carry very limited supply of "narrow" shoes... huge disappointment. The store itself did have some good sales on a relatively meager selection of items. If you find something in the sale racks that's in your size and taste, you may be in luck. However, my experience with their "Search and Send" feature, as well as their customer service- as a whole- was abhorrent. Over President's Day weekend, 2014, I went to this Nordstrom Rack location, hoping to partake in their sale. I found a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo loafers for an exceptionally good deal, unfortunately they did not have them in my size. One of the employees at the store confirmed the shoes were available in my size at other branches, and they placed an order for them, charging my credit card ahead of time. I was sent a confirmation email for my order, stating that once the item had shipped I would receive tracking information. Several days later, I had not received tracking information so I called the Arborland branch and was given the impression that they had wiped their hands clean of the issue since charging my credit card. I was told, verbatim, to check their website for listings of other Nordstrom Rack stores around the country, and that I should begin calling them one-by-one, to see if they had my shoes in stock and would be willing to fulfill the order. Instead, I went to the Nordstrom Rack website and I found an online chat feature for customer support and the representative checked on my order and confirmed the shoes had been located and were being shipped out that very afternoon. Less than 30-minutes later I was sent an official email from Nordstrom Rack saying that they no longer had the shoes in my size and that the order was cancelled! The whole experience left me with a hint of whiplash! In any case, I got a cute little email from the Nordstrom Rack store, asking me to rate my experience. I presented it with no less candor than I am doing here, and asked for an explanation of why, when an order is placed with one branch- and a credit card is charged- the item is not put on hold at the store that has it in stock (something that all other department stores I've dealt with do). I also asked for clarification on the wisdom of asking customers to go fishing for their item at other branches. My correspondence was submitted approximately one month ago and no one from the store has contacted me with any sort of explanation, apology, or assurances of future quality control measures.
