    Yes, I know the difference!

It's really important in life to 1) know your feces and 2) know the difference between feces and Shinola. You have to be very old to get this opening sentence. Shinola is a fascinating company that at one time was known for making shoe polish. In fact, for many of us, Shinola was synonymous with shoe polish in the way we say "Kleenex" to mean facial tissue. The way we buy and keep shoes changed and the other shoe polish companies went the way of the Passenger pigeon and affordable college tuition but Shinola morphed into a high end leather goods company. When you want the very best leather briefcase, belt, wallet, purse, etc, this is your place. Not a good place for vegans or Hindus.

I got a normal chai and my husband got a dirty one. It was so delicious. The shop is such a good idea this lounge speakeasy feel. I would definitely go again.

    Excellent chilled herbal tea.

I was unaware of the existence of this hidden gem. It is located in the basement of the store. The vibe is very hip and chill. It has a minimalist, industrial aesthetic and is very dimly lit. It was a great place for intimate chatting. We had cappuccino and iced Traverse City cherry herbal tea. I will definitely be back!

Great spot top 5 go to stops in Ann Abor. Not to mention amazing quality products across the board. Ps. They have a coffee bar in the basement

What an awesome place! Amazing line of products, great service. The sales person, Eche, had a great conversation with me, giving me a brief history into how they started and the importance stressed on quality and design. ***SECRET**** They have an underground cafe, which has absolutely AMAZING coffee's and chai lattes. Def a must go place in Ann-Arbor!

Ah.. the smell of leather + coffee makes the best combo. Visited the Shinola coffee shop during a work break. Ordered a cortado and it was delicious. Love the record player playing and ambiance in the cafe. Great place to relax and unwind with some good coffee. Will be back when/if I return to the area :)

My family was there one cold, rainy day in April this past spring. My younger brother and his wife really like this store. The selections do look nice and seem high end, but it's not a great place for a family with young kids and their older, not-so-hip, parents to shop. We tried out the coffee bar downstairs because we were chilled to the bone and needed a place to have something warm us up. The stairs are not elderly friendly for one. The place is too dark and there were far too many people just hanging about with their laptops taking up space where the eight of us needed to sit. The decor and the vintage accessories were pleasant, but the overall feel was unwelcoming and more like a bar than a nice place to come with family and friends to hang out. Unless you are a hipster, that is. . . As for the coffee - A++ Service was slow and left something to be desired. Again, more like a bar than a coffee house.

This shinola has never disappointed me. It is very cool that they have a coffee shop in the basement, and it's located right on the corner so it has lots of natural light. As for the store itself, the employees are awesome, but almost a little overbearing. I know it's supposed to be an individualized experience, but it almost seems like they never leave you alone, as if they can't read your hints The quality of the products though are amazing. They are willing to help you out from start to finish with any product. Keep in mind the watches are kind of pricey at about 500 or more, but totally worth It. Will definitely be returning, it's an awesome store to go to for gifts or just when walking downtown. The displays get changed often, and they just added the new shinola headphones!

I do like the watches and other items they sell here, but there is just something a little off about this store. I don't know exactly what it is, but for such a high-end leather goods and watch retailer that claims to have exquisite craftsmanship, their customer service is terrible. They put off such attitude that I have no desire to spend my money here. Do I appreciate the attention to small details put into their watches and the fact that the company was founded in Detroit? I do. Do I appreciate their apathetic service and overblown pricing scheme for items that are nice, but not quite nice enough to justify the price of it all? No. The salespeople walk around in a fog and pay no heed to anyone needing assistance. I suppose they must not get paid commission because they truly don't seem to care if anyone buys anything or not. It's a disrespectful attitude and pretty snobby for salespeople who probably can't afford the luxury lifestyle brand that Shinola is, while their customers can, like myself. However, if I'm going to go out of my way to drive here and spend my money on Shinola products, I would expect a higher modicum of service. It just isn't found here. It's like they weren't even trying. During a recent visit here, I was interested in a few watches- I am a collector of both luxury and vintage watches, which unnerves my wife to no ends- so I naturally was eager to check out a few pieces. My wife looked over some of the handbags while looked at watches. Other customers milled about for awhile, none receiving a lick of customer service. There were clearly at least two salespeople standing in the back of the store chatting with each other with coffee in their hands, blatantly ignoring any customers in the background. It was obvious they knew people needed assistance or were willing to shell out big bucks on Shinola that day, but instead, they just kept to themselves, chatting over coffee. That was the epitome of both rude and apathetic. We turned around and left. They was nothing that impressive that would keep us in the shop at that point. We hightailed it out of there, with at least two other customers trailing behind us. I assume they were as put off by the whole experience as I was. The store looked from the outside, but the reality of it once we stepped inside was incredibly lackluster. Everything seemed well organized, but it looked more like a demo or display instead of a retail store. Everything about it had a standoffish approach and I wasn't feeling it. It's unfortunate because the products are nice, but there are plenty of luxury lifestyle brands out there at equal quality and competitive price points where the shopping experience is more pleasant and customer service-based. If I'm going to shell out that kind of money, I expect more than just the name Shinola attached. As for me, I prefer my Longines watches. It's well-crafted quality and design for the same money.

This is a great place for an excellent cup of coffee in a relaxing environment. Very different from the other coffee shops in the area.

In the 1990s Steve and Barry's, MDen, Michigan Book & Supply, and Ulrich's were arguably the four most prevalent retailers selling branded college gear on campus, the latter two being mainly textbook stores, and S&B being the more college-kid-affordable type of spot that occupied part of the current MDen State Street location. Back then Elmo's Printing was still running out of a residential house south of Packard, and Underground Printing was still an idea waiting to be born. Around early 2000s, when S&B went bankrupt, MDen expanded and took over their retail space, as well as some of their market share, introducing over time their own basic and trendy apparel collections and collaborations with other brands (outside of traditional players like Nike, such as more recent Lululemon and Tommy Bahama collabs). Nowadays MDen is the go-to school spirit shop that carries everything from UofM stickers to lawn and Christmas ornaments, college graduation caps and gowns, sports jerseys, wall decor, bumper stickers, bobble heads, and all types of men's and women's apparel and accessories. You can come here for shirts with the word "Michigan" in 20 different languages, t-shirts and sweatshirts for every individual college and major degree program at the university, as well as yoga wear and golf outfits. There's an affordable sale section upstairs as well. A one-stop shop for all things Michigan-related!
