Upon entry, it's full of bright, hippie- like clothing and items for high school and college kids. I like this store because it has the best of both worlds for my two kids. One loves trendier brand new clothing while the other loves antiquing, retro and recycled, and thrift shops. This place has both scattered amongst a huge space with tons of racks to explore. One kid found a vintage kimono which was extremely cheap and also 30% off. On another day my other child found some patchwork pants that looked old but were brand new. Some of the prices can be high, but the vintage and recycled clothing is a great price. They have such a big variety you could spend a long time shopping here for clothing that spans from multiple decades. This is a fun place. read more

It breaks my heart to give this store a 2 star review because I absolutely love the clothes, it's the employees that are the problem. I was so excited to shop here with a couple of my girlfriends, as the clothes are so cute and affordable. However there was a huge problem with the staff. They were unnecessarily rude. When asked for anything, they would groan and moan. I was able to look past this, however I unable to look past the way the gentleman bagging up my clothes at check out crumpled them up and shoved them into a single plastic bag. I was so frustrated and disappointed when I arrived home and all of the clothes where wrinkled. This store provides such an one of a kind and exciting environment, it's such a shame the staff members ruin the experience. read more

It's about time we got another inexpensive store on campus. I'm torn between giving Ragstock three stars and four stars but it's more "a-ok" than fan-worthy. They have a mix of new and used clothing for both men and women. The new clothing is inexpensive but also seems to be cheaper in quality too. I wouldn't say it's not worth getting but most of it wasn't my style personally. The used clothing is what I went for and the only thing I didn't like was the prices were kind of odd. brand name jeans in great condition were nine to eleven dollars, which is much cheaper than other selective resale shops. but then some other items like ugly sweaters and dresses were more expensive. The selection isn't too large but hopefully once they clear out the halloween stuff, they'll expand the used clothing selection. another bonus - the staff were helpful and friendly, which can be rare sometimes in used clothing stores. i would definitely recommend stopping in - it's an interesting look-around even if you don't buy something. i'll be going back and i'm definitely open to bumping this place up a star if the selection comes to better suit my wants (though i did end up buying a cheap scarf), and likely the wants of others who love a good find in a used clothing store. read more

I've been here a few times, and have always come in for either a costume idea or a 'cheaper' ugly sweater (I know... not sure how that is a 'thing' to charge extra for ugly sweaters). Ragstock is a mixture of used and cheap quality clothing that is passed as "vintage", you will find stuff here if you take the time to look. The clothing is not really quality (like finding a gem at the Salvation Army for instance). The clothing is typically lower quality for cheap. Worth a look through, might find something interesting. I'm all for used clothing, always great savings to be had, and good clothing to be worn. read more

This place can be great, if you are willing to look through it. I like the looking through the vintagey stuff but I can't say I've bought any of it yet. The accessories seem to be good prices also. But basically, you have to be really careful about prices here because some stuff is at a great price and some stuff is at a so-so price. One thing I can say is just don't buy basics here. They have a lot of t-shirts, leggings, etc, but a good chunk of them are Forever 21 brands with a 2 dollar mark-up. In fact, I saw the sweater I was wearing there today for 9.99 when I bought it for 7.99 at the Briarwood f21 two weeks ago. I also see a lot of Kohl's brand stuff that isn't a huge discount off of what it would be at Kohl's, but that doesn't seem to egregious compared to actually marking up. read more

I'm only giving this place 3 stars because there aren't so many places you can get cheap clothing within walking distance of campus. But bear in mind that you get what you pay for--I've purchased a few of their solid fitted tees, and the shirts have started coming apart after just 2 washes. TWO!!! read more

I feel like I waited months for this place to open and it's finally here! On one hand I'm always thrilled to find a new place to buy cheap basic clothing & this is THE PLACE for that sort of thing. I picked up a bunch of v-neck thermal shirts for a steal - any basic cotton item you can dream of (shirts, camisoles, leggings, yoga pants) can be found here for a fraction of the price of an American Apparel lookalike. Organic cotton knee-high socks? $7 for a two-pack. Awesome On the other hand I was bummed to see that the quality of clothing wasn't super consistent. Yesterday I grabbed a pair of fingerless stretchy cotton gloves for a few dollars & upon opening the package realized the package contained two right-handed gloves. The guys working today were super understanding & gave me another pair without really any hassle, but I put them on, left the store & 2 blocks later realized that the button had fallen off of one. Not awesome. A lot of the new clothing was brands that I've seen in the clothing section at Meijer if that gives you a sense of the quality. Still, I've never seen a place with such a selection of WEIRD vintage items for dirty-cheap prices. Leather boots & jackets, a wall full of kimonos, a wall of $3-5 sunglasses, a million Bill Cosby sweaters & so on made this place really worth telling my friends about. read more

Visiting from out of town and was on the hunt for a belt. First of all, I get that ish is vintage at some of these other stores, but how can you justify a $40 on a USED belt? No 'mam, y'all must be crazy. Needless to say that was not the case a Ragstock. They have LOADS of items. Used and new. As far as fashion trends go, they are on it too! The staff was absolutely lovely, we came in about an hour before closing, no ugly looks, no "We close at 9". So that was good. My friend and I looked around for about 45 minutes, my friend cleared it out with a massive bag of goodies. And I! Found a cool and different belt for...wait for it!... $4! BOOOM! Thanks Ragstock. I'm afraid this may be another instance of me overrating a place because it fills a void in Ann Arbor (in this case, *reasonably priced* second-hand and vintage clothing), but oh well. I just got an amazing sheep's wool sweater here for $8 that was marked for $100. Like some of the other reviewers have said, some of the stuff here is poorly-made, overstock from cheap stores, etc, but there are many gems lurking behind the front racks. read more

It's alright. You can find wacky clothes that are both new and old. The new clothes are rather cheap and not the best of quality, but for a kid on a budget like me, I'll take it. It's the perfect store for the college hipster crowd. In fact, I would see myself buying a lot from here if I lived in the area just for the simple fact of low prices for interesting stuff. Ragstock... I understand vintage. The smells, the stains...rips and tears here and there...but this. This is a story for the books I like to tell when it's relevant of the weirdest experiences at a clothing retailers. I stopped in this summer because I had never been into a Ragstock before, but got the concept. I have always loved vintage cowboy boots specifically. To my delight, you all had a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes! I tried one on that was my size for a moment, took off the boot, and as I was setting it on the ground...noticed that there was something rattling inside of the boot. Since I hadn't felt anything WITH MY FOOT inside the boot, I was intrigued. Mind you, vintage cowboy boots are made of wooden soles. I shoved the newspaper holding the boot up far down into the boot...gave it a GOOD shake...took the paper out...and turned the boot upside down... OUT FELL A TERMITES NEST AND ABOUT 20 TERMITES WRIGGLING ON THE GROUND. My heart dropped...and so did the boot out of my hand. I went and found a sales associate who was as horrified as I was, only to find that the manager she called over didn't seem so surprised...told the girl to sweep them up and that was that. Finally one of them says "oh are you paying now," with a very snobby tone in their voice. I bought two Christmas sweatshirts Sunday. My mistake; I picked up two red ones thinking they had the same cat message on them for my daughter and her friend. Alas, one was for dogs. Took the dog one back to exchange for a cat one (that they still had) but unfortunately (his word) the stock number was different. I listened to two clerks try to figure out this complicated inventory problem for a few minutes; then tol them to just keep both. I'm a local and I went in to buy a few things. Didn't realize that customers needed to ask to use a fitting room (a sign or two would be nice) so I just walked in and did my thing. I came out and realized that I had forgotten to try on one thing, so I went back in. I heard a faint but demanding voice and poked my head out. It was a worker from behind the counter yelling rudely at me, "Hey, you, person who just went in the dressing room." I looked at her and she continued (yelling), "How many things do you have?" I told her, and went about my business, thinking that she could have come out from behind the counter and confronted me in a more professional manner. Look, I understand needing to be cautious about shoplifting, but it's unnecessary to yell at customers who have no idea what they're doing is wrong (assuming that I should have asked to go to the dressing room -- I didn't do that because there was no sign asking me to, just open curtains). I then checked out with a different, quite kind employee. I suggest this location invest some resources into training their employees in customer service, and/or hire people who are capable of being kind to customers, even when they did something wrong. Anyway, Ragstock is a good place if you don't mind being yelled at, and you want to find clothes that are somewhat decently-priced. The men's section (from which I was mainly shopping) is somewhat scant, but that's expected. I'll be back, but I'll be on my guard for any employees who are in a bad mood. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews here. Granted, I have only been twice, but the place is so damned good that I went back less than 24 hours later. The $3 hundred-percent silk tops alone are worth a trip! And the reviewer who said that they "pass off" stuff as vintage is wrong: there are genuine vintage items. Not very old, granted, but old enough to be considered vintage. And how about those Japanese kimonos?! OK, they are not near as nice as those in the vintage shop on 4th, but for $10, what can you expect? Cashiers are always very nice; discounts are offered for each trip; place is not too crowded; items are on sale quite often; new stock comes in once a week; changing rooms are basic but clean and not smelly. The only downside is that there is no toilet for customer use. Oh, and taking in 6 items only per time to the changing rooms is a bit of a pain. I don't leave 5-star reviews often; on Yelp this is only my second one. Most of my reviews are 1-star ones. And I only shop at thrift stores, discount stores like TJ Maxx, or online when things are on clearance. So keep these things in mind when reading this review. read more

I really like the stock in the Ann Arbor store...but they seemed to be prejudiced against carrying any size XL t-shirts for men or any XL shirts whatsover for men. I'm not talking "Big and Tall" or oversize, or baggies, I'm talking the BASIC XL size that has been the norm for my entire life in the United States of America even when I wasn't fat and middleaged... (I'm in my 40's and have ALWAYS wore XL as an adult, as do most normal size males I know). This is really a fatal flaw in their stock...I understand that the smaller tighter fits are what the young people and hipsters like...the target demographic...but come on now...is it really necessary to just plain not stock an entire normal mainstream size? For this reason, I rarely buy any shirts here, even though I like many of them and would...if they stocked a normal XL size. It's as if they want to target that thin emaciated youth look...but last time i looked, not ALL youth are walking around with skeletal Adam Lanza arms and features. It's odd...but they even seem to phase out or just not carry...the XL size in RETRO CLOTHES from the 80's- 90S that were XL SIZE TO BEGIN WITH BECAUSE THAT WAS THE POPULAR SIZE IN THAT ERA. These shirts...especially the 80's hair metal rock t-shirts, the product shirts, etc...all originally came in XL sizes too...but Ragstock apparently has taken it upon themselves to just plain not stock that size. It's like cultural revisionism via size. If I traveled back in time, apparently no one in the 1980's and early 90's was a big enough human to fit into a giant's clothing size. Apparently, we've all only gotten smaller since then. I noticed this "size prejudice" (not stocking any XL) in the pants too, but it is harder to quanitfy, and especially have noticed it when they promote the tiny "Japanese baseball jerseys" seemingly made for tiny tiny persons ( which is another thing...please hold the cultural stereotypes...but geez louise they things are tiny...I couldn't even find one to fit a 10 year old boy...how does their constant promotion of these reflect on size prejudice?? Did they somehow find a way to mix the size thing with a cultural stereotype???), and in their unwearable jackets (that is, unless you are a petite small child man or trying to find an outfit for your role as a Munchkin in the Wizard of Oz play for the 4th grade...).. .From start to finish, all their male clothing appears expressly curated and designed only to be worn by ectomorphs. No wonder the stock hangs around and around until they mark it down...there just aren't this many tiny small rail-thin people in town to support such a wide variety of miniature clothing. Ragstock, I'd dearly love to purchase some of your clothes, but I don't feel like spending 6 months in Gitmo concentration camp or on a desert island losing muscle mass from protein deficency to do so. Stock some damn XL size tshirts, already. This would be a good store if you drink alot of Ensure and need to watch your electolytes from system collapse, or if you are seeking doll size clothing and shoes, but if you're a man with a normal interest in, I dunno, physical fitness and weight over 150 lbs, you most likely will not find much that fits you. you'll love the place if you find a men's Small a roomy, baggy fit in a t-shirt. read more

I first fell in love with Ragstock when visiting their location on Belmont in Chicago, so perhaps I'm a bit biased, but the Ann Arbor location just doesn't compare. I bought a Groupon to use earlier this year and I honestly could not find anything worth purchasing. I ended up with a tank top and bottles of nail polish that I really didn't need. In general, most of the merchandise in this store is over-the-top (too trendy?). The vintage clothing can be fun to peruse, but a lot of the newer stuff appears to be cheaply made. What will keep me from coming back, however, is the staff. Very rude and unfriendly. The opposite of what you'd hope for in a retail shopping experience. I've stopped by a few times to give them another shot but it's just not worth it anymore. read more

A great place to pick up zany clothing items, as well as some very good every day selections. A few trips around the store (they change the location of things often) usually yields several gotta have it pieces. The Halloween pickings are also great, especially so close to campus. I've gotten everything from club wear to prom dresses to kimonos here. read more

This place is sells a combination of thrifted items and random cheap crap. I don't buy stuff here too often, but you can find goofy clothes for holidays and parties, like light-up Christmas tree necklaces, bouncy shamrock headbands, ugly sweaters, and lamé metallic leggings. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to scour through racks this day but I couldn't find anything in the store. It seemed like the only clothing options were sweaters or neon 80's looking apparel. It's like the store finds one item and goes crazy with it - half of the store is full of that one item. In my opinion, unless you're in high school/college or going to a theme party - ugly sweater, Cosby sweater or 80's party, there isn't much to get excited about. Most of the clothing is poorly made and falls apart quickly. Some of the accessories are reasonably priced, if only the rings would fit my chubby fingers. I thought this store was amazing! Some of the silliest outlandish clothes ever at cheap prices! I could have spent an hour in here but I was with my impatient husband! They have the quirkiest clothes you can't help but laugh. I did buy a couple basic cotton t-shirts with v-necks, nothing special but practical, for 4$ each! I loved the way they organized all the racks for example "80,s", "90's", "hippie sweaters", "reflective jackets" "flannels", "acid wash jean ensembles" "windbreakers" etc. I giggled quite a bit as I saw a lot of clothes that really took me back to my youth, some I swear I owned at one point in the 90's. They do a great job at keeping everything orderly so you don't have to search through racks like at most thrift shops. Some of the clothing is so out there it's mostly for the brave but I consider myself quite brave and there's also items for the more conservative as well. I would most definitely come back here particularly when I'm looking for someone specific for a costume or even just when I'm looking to be a bit flamboyant. read more

This place has some cute clothing and jewelry at decent prices, but their customer service is lacking. I found a dress that I liked but the only small they had was on the manikin, so I decided to try on a medium instead. The medium was too large, so my friend ended up taking the small off the manikin so I could just try it on. When I was coming out of the dressing room they told me to leave the items I didn't want at the front counter. The employee asked where the hanger was for the small and I explained that it was the only small left in this size, so my friend had taken it off the manikin so I could try it on, but that I could go put it back on. The employee proceeded to give me a stern talking to, telling me how rude it was that I didn't ask to take it off the manikin first because it created a really bad and difficult situation for the employees to deal with if there was a naked manikin in the store. This would not have bugged me so much except for that fact that I have worked in retail and 1) you should not talk to a customer like this, 2) you should not put the only one left of a certain size on the manikin, 3) it is not that difficult to redress a manikin, especially when that it part of your job, and 4) if they had employees walking around the store to help customers rather than having 3 or 4 employees all standing at the counter together, then maybe they would be able to see when a manikin needed to be redressed. read more
