This is one of our thrift store stops whenever we are in the vicinity. There is lots of merchandise. We were there President's Day for the 50% off sale and it was hopping. There are the usual sections (Mens, Women's, Kids, Houseware etc). Handbags are hung above a rack of women clothes, and shoes are everywhere which are only sorted by gender but not size. The clothes are sorted by type of clothing and color, not by size. So you really have to look. There is the final clearance rack for 99 cents and they have color of the day sales. Prices are decent. There were employees on the floor restocking merchandise, Checkout was friendly and efficient. read more

value world needs to try to pay their employees working wages and do the yearly evaluations on time. The employees are struggling with poor people wages and still have to wait several paychecks after yearly review to receive only 25 cents. Managers are hired on over employees who worked for years it seems very unprofessional and the treatment of employees is wrong. read more

This Value World is in a rundown part of Ypsilanti, and it's not glamorous. The first time I went there, I wasn't sure it was open for business until I saw people leaving carrying big black garbage bags full of their gently used treasures. I specifically decided to check it out for winter coats this past February since all of the stores in the area that sold new clothing had pretty much depleted their stock of winter clothing. They had a great selection of coats. My husband was with me and hadn't intended to make a purchase, but he was impressed with the great deals on used leather coats. We ended up leaving with a beautiful barely-worn Old Navy skirt and full length Christian Cole wool winter coat for me and a leather jacket for him, all for about $15. I had been frequenting the Ann Arbor Value world, but I think I'll have to hit up the Ypsilanti one more often. read more

The staff is very Covid cautious and ensures everyone is wearing a mask. I love the variety of clothes, but I wish it were sorted by size. I've stopped buying baby clothes there because they use staples to attach the tag, and the put the staples in the fabric which leaves holes and causes tearing. read more

When I was younger, thinner and happy to wear vintage polyester, I couldn't understand why anyone would shop anywhere other than Value World. The prices simply couldn't be beat and this particular one in Ypsi was always full of treasures. But now that I'm older and thicker and not as willing to waste five bucks on something that doesn't fit (and that something *must* make me look like the grown up that I am), I don't find much value in this World. I need a dressing room, and if I can't have a dressing room, I at least need a mirror. FYI - there's one little mirror in the southwest corner of the store; be prepared to wait in line. So, I don't bother getting shirts or pants at VW. I stick with items I can easily try on, like coats, shoes, hats, etc. That strategy helps, but the weeding process can still take a very long time. I always end up feeling totally exhausted by the time I leave, maybe because the air quality is for shit. I accept that dustiness is part of the thrift shopping experience, but they really make no attempt to be clean in any way. You'll regret it if you don't bring a lot of tissue for your running nose. Nevertheless, they do have some great deals. Yesterday I had a disappointing wool winter coat search but walked out with a barely used pair of black tennis shoes, another must-have item on my list. For less than five bucks, those shoes alone made the trip worthwhile. I'm just glad that I probably won't need to make the trip again soon. read more

Sarah's totally right that this Value World is nowhere near as picked-over as the one that's in Ann Arbor. When I was in high school and even my first couple years of college, this particular store seemed to be a gold mine. I wonder now if my tastes have changed, or if the selection here is really all that different. I have had marvelous thrifting tales here involving amazing custom embroidered western shirts, never-worn vintage boots, and many, many belts and scarves. However, I don't find as many things when I've stopped here over the last few years. Maybe I'm getting picky? It's still worth a stop, though, because what may be lost in terms of quantity of goodies is made up for in quality. My last excursion yielded a sweet almost-new pair of black suede boots for under $6, as well as a cute little heart pin for 60 cents. This location also attracts a few more characters than the Ann Arbor location, which can be both entertaining and unexpectedly time-consuming. Example conversation with fellow patron in line: You talk to ghosts? Uh, sure! Why yes, I HAVE seen that show, Crossing Over with John Edward. Um, why don't you check out now? Honestly, I was worried about going here after seeing people complain about the cleanliness of the place, but I've never had problems! The place seems to be as clean as any other thrift store in my opinion. The area with children's toys can be a wreck, but that's more the fault of parents not paying attention to their kids than the employees. I like that the aisles are big enough for 2 people, unlike how tiny the Ann Arbor one seemed to be. Everything was always organized very well and kept neat. The selection is too large and the labels are never correct. (Everything in the men's section is Medium, even if the labels themselves say Small or XX-Large). With this in mind, only go if you have tried all other options. Occasionally, you'll find something The Get-up would have for way more money, but the Salvation Army in Ann Arbor is better. read more

I used to come here several times a week when I managed a very popular vintage clothing store in Ann Arbor (at the height of the vintage clothing trend- the mid-late 80's). As it was then, it is now. Nothing has changed and that is a wonderful thing. It is a top-notch used clothing superstore, arranged by size and then by color. Used clothing stores do not smell like overseas factories (that is, the 'department store smell'). Any expectations other than, yep, it is a used clothing store, should be left at the mall. No dressing rooms has never been a problem, as the staff is typically pretty darn good at figuring out sizing. And if something doesn't fit or you don't like it, just donate it back (VW is Purple Heart and their donation center is in Westland or you can donate to a Salvation Army store). Anyone who would leave a bad review for VW simply does not understand 1) the fun of the hunt, 2) what vintage clothing stores are all about or the reality of where the clothes come from, 3) what it is like to be poor and how wearing a pair of $100 shoes you bought for $5 makes you feel good or 4) that resale shops are typically in old grocery stores and they are not up to date on the latest decor trends. read more

Biggest drawback is lack of dressing rooms. And it can be well, dirty. Im sorry but there it is. BUT IF YOU ARE A BARGAIN HUNTER, or on a limited budget this is the best place around to get a real bargain. Many people I know get a lot their kids clothes here. Can find many good used clothes and household items. The half off coupon days are a mob scene, avoid or come only just at 9 am on those days. Salvation Army in ann arbor doesn't even come close. always find good stuff here, especially awesome when they have the 50% coupons out-just look in the red plum mag or sign up for the email online, they email coupons to you every now and then. Still the best thrifting in town for clothes and shoes. Cashmere sweaters everywhere, classic styles and colors in pristine condition from swanky designers for 10$. If you just want a super warm layer for jogging or yard work, pay 2$ for one in less nice condition. Seriously, a polar fleece from old navy is more and feels gross. Shoes are not organized by size but I found beautiful boots that I know are usually 400$ for 25$. Many wool, cashmere, and camel hair coats for 15$ or so. The best prices in town. He parking lot is off putting and full of potholes but just drive carefully. This is really about clothes so no furniture really. Neighborhood is not the best but don't worry about it. Very friendly cashiers. With a little curation you could easily have the same experience as at the Get Up downtown. You just need t have an eye. read more

Sometimes you need something. Not something permanent. Not something in which you want to invest too much. Kris and I were thinking we wanted a record player but considering that my vinyl collection was started by my parents and added to by my sister and then me, we weren't sure the quality of said collection. So why invest too much? So we spent a Saturday popping around all kinds of shops with used stuff picking up various components, speakers, wires and everything else we needed. Along the way we did quite a bit of digging around for other goodies, just for fun, and some of the greatest finds came from here. Old dishes, cassette tapes... Really bad paperbacks (my favorite finds) and while we didn't buy much it was still a great deal of fun to dig. Cool place! read more

I recently went & got a couple of really great thick sweaters for the inevitable cold weather. Two sweaters for 6 bucks & one of them is Tommy Hilfiger (I love finding name brand clothing for cheap)! What a bargain! Only thing that is keeping me from giving Value World a higher rating is the lack of mirrors& dressing rooms. The prices are affordable and I think this one is one of the better Value Worlds (the one in Southgate is a dump and thats closer to me) Taylor isn't so bad if you can get past the rude staff. The biggest downside to this place is the smell. Anything I get here I wash about five times before wearing, and there are some things I've never been able to get the smell out of. It's like a cleaning product smell, and it's the same smell on every item of clothing, which makes me think it's something they do to the clothes. The prices are sometimes great, sometimes not. It's hard to tell what the rationale is for pricing one pair of pants at $2 and another, nearly identical one at $8. No dressing rooms, so depending on the item, you may not be able to try it on in the store. The racks are so packed with clothes it's hard to shop. They hand-write sizes on tags for pants, but I'm not sure why, since they're usually 2-4 inches off. They staple the price tags on. Not a problem in most cases, but on dress shirts, they put the staples through the collar, which can leave a small but noticeable hole in a really bad place to have a small but noticeable hole. Every once in a while you get a good deal, though, so, with the half-off coupon it's sometimes worth it. read more

This place is hit or miss for me. Most of the time I walk out empty handed. I find the building dirty, congested, and messy. Make me wonder how it passes safety inspections. I don't know where they get their stock, but many of the items are dirty, stained, or are damaged. I also noticed that some prices are ridiculously high. I know there are notices posted in the toy area about supervising your kids, but these notices are ignored. I suggest removing the toy section. I would shop there more often if they would weed out their merchandise, and clean up. read more

I am super disappointed in this place. I spent enough time looking for what I was looking for and everything except for one piece had a price tag. I told them I would pay them much more Than the vest was worth and they told me it was their policy to hold the item for a day. Super inconvenient since I don't live here... So I wasted my time looking for what I was looking for. Which is costing me time which is valuable. I don't know how these people think that I will come in there with a pile of money and try to rip them off on a stupid vest. I will not shop any value world again ever. Terrible and extremely inconvenient experience. The manager could have taken my $20 for the vest that they probably charge less than ten bucks for. It's insulting for them to insinuate that Im trying to rip them off. Honestly I feel bad for the employees though because I have seen how this corporation operates. They are very strict with their workers but and expect a lot out of them. And still barely pay them a living wage. Greedy value world. Shame on you! read more
