The expeience with Arcadian Antiques has been incredible. We have been treated with such kindness, generosity, and genuine enthusiasm when it came to helping us find our engagement rings. Not only were we delighted with the service and just the caliber of humanity we encountered in the store, but Rhonda herself hand delivered our re-sized rings to us in NYC when they were ready a couple months later. She surprised us with champagne and appetizers, took pictures of us as we opened them, and even gave us cupcakces for dessert AND bought us a bouquet of flowers. After that, she took pictures of us by Rockefeller Center. This woman just goes above and beyond and may be the first person we've encountered to truly have a heart of gold. The quality of the rings is exquisite, the re-sizing perfect, the attention to detail, the personal attention....we will remember this for the rest of our lives. Arcadian Antiques has an incredible vintage jewelry selection. The pieces are so unique and well preserved. I'm not much of a fancy and/or antique jewelry kinda gal and yet I still get starry-eyed over their expertly curated offerings. Jewelry and other small accessories (broaches, tie clips, etc) tend to be the bulk of the offerings here but there is also a nice smattering of some housewares like fancy lamps, small furniture, stemware, and more. The teacups most recently on display in their window were particularly charming! Great service, reasonable prices, and unique items in mind condition. My bracelet lock mechanism was jammed so i came in to see if it could get repaired. The jeweler took it for a brief moment and turned around to do something. When she gave it back it had 3 dents and a deformed lock to give it tension. It was a louis vuitton with a 1000 retail price and i was upset that it was altered without having a heads up of what she was goinf to do. I went downtown to abracadabra to eventually fix the mechanism itself but the dent is unfixable. If u have a valuable jewelry that u dont want cosmetic damage to workaround i dont think this is the best place. Reading a little bit, i guess the lady who did the "quick fix" wasnt even the jeweler but the owner. read more

What a beautiful day!! We were out walking about the "diag" on the University of Michigan Campus and it was a lovely day! The sun was shining and we decided to head over to the Arcadian inside of the little "hallway" called "Nickels Arcade"...it's a cute little covered "hall" with this great little Antique store ! I so much bling and shiny stuff that I just wanted everything! The prices are a bit high but hey, you have to pay for quality, right? This out of the way ecclectic off shoot of the campus gives you a glimpse of what the people in the town of Ann Arbor are like. They /We love our "uniqueness"! I have had screw back earrings converted back to (their original) pierced format; I've had the wire on a new seed coral earring repaired shortly after I got it in Sicily; I've had an antique Venetian enamel necklace repaired. They are careful and well informed and I would trust them to attend to any problem I have. Let's get this out of the way: anyone saying anything about "high prices" either (a) has no idea what quality vintage jewelry costs or (b) is simply bitter this place doesn't carry lower-quality stuff in a correspondingly lower price range. Having looked and looked all over shops in California, eBay, everywhere, I can say that Arcadian's prices on rings are frankly AMAZING. I could not find a decent antique diamond/sapphire white gold ring for under $1000 ANYWHERE, and Arcadian had multiple options. Furthermore, the staff are antique jewelry experts - this is not one of those situations where an antique dealer just happens to have some rings in the back. They give expert advice on sizing, material choice, resetting/repairs, etc. My only complaint is that this shop is in Ann Arbor of all places - and that I can't find anything similar in SF, Chicago, etc - but what can you do... read more

After 10 minutes of browsing in here I quickly calculated how many pints of blood my body could surrender so I could fund a purchase here. If I start being a guinea pig for medical studies now, will I have enough money by December to get me one of these here sparkling thingies?... hmm.... Way too many stunning beautiful treasures in here. I think their necklaces in particular are the bees knees. Shopkeep mentioned a lot of people get their antique engagement rings here. Though nice, the rings are mostly traditional and not all that ornate or unique by my standards. They also carry a lot of cameos and some lockets. Old lighters. Broaches. And then around the jewelry cases some furniture and dishes (this stuff didn't stand out as much to me). This is by no means a knick knack antique store. The Arcadian is a curated and extremely organized shop. Everything from gold to silver, from precious to semi-precious, and so on. This is not a place to discover good finds - it's a place where someone has already found them for you. Thus, you pay for it. Most of the jewelry pieces start at around $250 and go way up. Seems to me that the prices are inflated by about 20% but this here is Ann Arbor so they can get away with it. Plus, they are in immaculate shape. Shopkeep/proprietor was surprisingly laid back for someone who puts out all the stern signs I've read over the past few years: "NO BIKES AGAINST WINDOW!" and "DO NOT SIT IN THIS CHAIR" (for a chair put out for display in the arcade - I always saw it as a surrealist commentary on form and function). I do get the nagging sense that this is a place of privilege - like people come here to spend their daddy's money whenever they get bored or to buy their S.O. that little blue box gift once a week. That kind of bums me out because the items in here are truly magical and should transcend nonchalant consumption. At the very best I'm just being jealous and at the very worst there's palpable class-conflict in here. Tada! Anyway, I'm gonna go get my blood sugar level up and start flexing my forearm. The Arcadian, simply put, is fabulous. I typically frequent antique shops and markets with piles of eclectic, sometimes dusty things to dig through, but for beautiful jewelry in particular, the Arcadian has quickly and easily topped my list. When I became engaged about 6 months ago, the ring was 3 sizes too big and around 100 years old. We were told by various jewelers that due to its setting, it could not be sized without the risk of ruining the diamond. When we wandered into the Arcadian to look for a "backup" ring, we were assured that their jeweler could handle the job--and he did! Though my engagement ring was not purchased here, it is because of the Arcadian that I get to wear it everyday. My fiance and I returned to buy my wedding band here, and not only found the perfect ring, but enjoyed our time and Rhonda's help in choosing it. The owner took her time showing and explaining to me exactly what I needed to have repaired on my ring, this jewelry place is very knowledgable. She truly gave me her undivided attention and I did not feel rushed at all, even with other customers waiting and the phone ringing. I took my heirloom wedding ring set in to be appraised and asked them to look to see if the prongs needed repair. I know, you're afraid to even walk in the door, because the shop is full of china and glassware, and it looks like your grandma would just love it. My idea of an antique store is the kind that sells expensive junk like old farm implements, manual typewriters, radios that don't work, musty books, straight razors, old kitchen wares. Fun stuff. Nevertheless, the ladies at Arcadian helped me find a nice gold pocket watch for my brother, which he thought was really keen, and which was just inside of the budget. And the store soared in my estimation, even though my brother probably still doesn't bother to keep track of what time it is. The first time I went into Arcadian was with date, a long time ago, and we went down the stairs to the basement, thinking it was another showroom. We took our rings back for sizing and they did a wonderful job of a quick turn around (even though it was just after the holidays), so that I could wear my ring. Love. Love. Love. My fiance purchased my engagement ring from the Arcadian and I loved it so much I had to see the store for myself. Everything there is gorgeous and the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. This isn't your usual antique store we gawdy costume jewelery. We subsequently purchased both of our wedding bands (mine from the Main St store) and are very happy with them. Sizing was a perfect fit each time as well. Truthfully, while my ring is my obvious favorite, all the rings that they have are gorgeous and I would have been happy with any of them and hope that there might be some additional jewelery pieces from the Arcadian in my future. I also have to say that we searched several stores for by fiancee's wedding band, but we didn't get nearly the same level of customer service as we got here. Both stores were wonderful to work with, and worked with my fiancee to get him a ring he loved above and beyond that of a normal jewelery store. We purchased our engagement ring from the State Street location and wedding ring from the Nickels Arcade location. We purchased our engagement ring one year and then the wedding ring at a later time. The engagement ring was not part of a engagement/wedding ring set. We moved away from Ann Arbor after our engagement and looked high and low for vendors with decent 1920s platinum rings. Selections were limited on the east coast and online. I jumped at the opportunity to visit Arcadian Antiques on a trip to look for a wedding ring. Rhonda is super helpful. She helped me and my husband hone in on styles we liked and made the process super easy. We enjoyed working with her on the engagement and wedding ring. Since the engagement ring was not part of a set Rhonda was very helpful in finding a complimentary wedding ring. I highly recommend their services and selection. Both rings needed sizing adjustments and one needed to be mailed to me. Rhonda was timely and courteous regarding the status of the delivery and conscientious about cost. The moment we got there Bailey immediately began helping us pick out our rings. She was patient and got to know us which helped her help us pick out the perfect rings. With the help of both Bailey and Rhonda I was able to get my ring sized and back on my finger before flying out to California. My girlfriend and I found this place by chance, while visiting Ann Arbor from California for my Brother's wedding. We don't even collect antiques, but we were intrigued by the selection that we saw from outside, and decided to check the place out. After looking around, we noticed their exceptional selection of vintage jewelry. The selection included both fancy and ordinary pendants, rings, pins, bracelet charms, and other beautiful pieces. After looking around for a few minutes, my girlfriend was drawn to the vintage rings, and began to point out those that interested her. The owner, Rhonda, let us know that she was available if we had any questions. I eventually convinced my girlfriend to leave the store so that I could buy her a "Christmas gift." With my girlfriend gone, I asked Rhonda for help with one of the rings that my girlfriend was interested in. Rhonda was immediately helpful and accommodating. She indicated that I could bring the ring home to be sized, or have it sized in Michigan by someone she trusted. I opted for the latter. Rhonda took my information, and indicated that the ring would take about a week to size. It took a little longer, but Rhonda was good about updating me with progress reports, especially when she shipped the ring. She was responsible and professional throughout, which I appreciate. I was grateful for Rhonda's personal help, her attention to detail and her clear communication. I was happy to find a beautiful ring, and help a local business, to boot.
