When I returned to the earring section, where my friends were still standing, I was approached by an employee. She continued prodding me about the earrings (are you sure you didn't put them down, where are they, etc...) I then realized she was accusing me of stealing them. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, she asked me to show her the exact place that I had set down the earrings (wtf) which I was able to do. She then walked away without even an apology. It goes without saying that accusing customers of stealing when you obviously have no idea what you are talking about is not only disrespectful, embarrassing (given that the store was incredibly crowded at the time), but extremely unprofessional. Additionally the worker was extremely hostile and did not know how to work her own cash register and had to call for help multiple times. After issuing the gift card they told me that I would not be able to use the gift card because "their machine was down," essentially stealing $65 from me. Despite saying that they would reach out to me about the issue they never did and I had to call multiple times to resolve this issue. On the phone the worker called me rude (I don't know how trying to get a refund is considered "rude") and was extremely unhelpful. Finally they agreed to exchange the gift card for a different item (after 2 phone calls and 4 in store visits, I don't know why they couldn't have done this in the first place) This fiasco wasted me hours of time. I might be a little bias writing this review but I think it's still valid. I will start out by saying I grew up in The Arcadian; it's my home away from home. You know how a lot of kids play in the back yard or go to the park, not saying I did not do these things too but, the Arcadian was my back yard and the Nickels Arcade was my park. For as long as I can remember I have been going to Antique Shops, Flea Markets, Antique Shows and Estate Sales, and there is really no place like The Arcadian Antiques. Some people walk into the shop and say it smells old but The Arcadian is the cleanest, freshest smelling antique shop you will ever go in!!!! I have traveled all over the U.S. and still have not found anything that compares to it. It really is the antique connoisseur dream!! You still have to do all the work of looking at all the pieces in the shop because there are so many but, they are organized, cleaned and you don't have to get dirty or feel dirty after you leave (which is probably the best part in my opinion.) I would have to say to anyone who is worried about breaking anything in the store or your kids breaking anything in the shop, it's okay I have you beat by a million!! I would say good thing the owner is my Mom but I am not sure that it made it any better... There are little traces of my Brother, Sister and I all over the shop and you may have found some of them. As you walk down to the basement there is a chart on the wall marking our height and age, there is a pole in the middle of the shop where my Sister used to have a baby swing suspended from the ceiling, there are those spots where we have all spilled pop, or maybe you are the customer who has opened one of the dresser drawers and found Barbie clothes or hidden candy wrappers...guilty! And guilty! But overall this is what makes The Arcadian Antiques so incredible! It is a place where beautiful historical objects are cared for but it also a place where a family is and we open our doors everyday welcoming you into our home. Stop by the next time you are in the area, it really is an experience!! read more

My husband went to undergrad at U of M which fostered his love for Michigan Football. Because I attended school at Michigan State I was hesitant to go to games and cheer on his team, but we struck a deal. I would join him if he would indulge me with a trip to an antique store. I'm so glad we found The Arcadian! It is such a quaint store that brings new life and beauty to things of the past. I love its location off the beaten path and in an intimate skylight hall called Nickels Arcade. I was drawn to the ring counter and that first trip led to several. Each time we'd visit, Rhonda the store owner would let me try on rings and create wedding band/engagement ring matches. My husband knew he couldn't make a wrong choice and he surprised me by proposing with an antique ring from The Arcadian! Both my engagement and wedding band were bought here, I also bought cuff links for my husband to wear on our wedding day. The workmanship of the jeweler is impeccable and he stands by it. When I did have a preference concern after the sizing was done it was fixed to my liking without question and without charge! My only disappointment is not knowing who the jeweler is, but i understand that some secrets are best kept. The Arcadian is not one of those secrets and if you haven't been there - go! read more

I went into Arcadian because I'd seen the lovely jewelry displays in their windows for years. I was looking for a replacement for an old ring of my mother's that I wore every day, but which had become jagged over time and was destroying my clothes. The shopkeeper listened to me and heard what I really wanted instead of what I asked for. She steered me toward repair of my own ring instead of the purchase of a new one. They did a wonderful repair job! The ring looks beautiful and it no longer snags on everything I wear. The cost was lower than their estimate and best of all, I still have my mother's ring to wear. I can't speak highly enough about this shop's honesty and concern for its customers. read more

To their credit, the business was friendly, upfront and honest throughout the entire encounter…read more I'm writing this more as a heads up to people who, similar to me, are not at all experienced in selling gold or silver. I was able to watch the gentleman who helped me weigh what I brought in, he showed me the entire calculation of what they were offering, including the rates. This was refreshing as some other store hid their scales and were shady about the numbers they relayed to me. My one recommendation coming out of this is to get multiple offers for what you are selling. I'm not naming names of any competitors or anything like that in this review, you have to do your own due dillegence and drive around a bit when you sell. I'm sure there are many other factors including recent purchases, refiner's cuts, etc. for each store to consider when they make an offer. I will say that for silver, at the time of my visit, this store was not offering a competitive rate compared to every other store that I visited. This may change from time to time due to the factors I listed above (and others), but at the time of my visit, it simply was not close to market rate. I will still give the store a 5 star rating, particularly for their honesty. I'm putting it out there yet again for inexperienced sellers who are going through an estate similar to myself, take the time to GET MULTIPLE OFFERS from different stores. The final price I sold my items for was significantly higher than what I was offered here. Having said all of that, I would not hesitate to return to this store in the future. I kind of expected ridiculously high prices, it is Ann Arbor after all, but these prices were absurd. What I don't expect is to be ridiculed by the owner because of a simple spelling mistake. Like I said, thier priorities are backwards with no attempt to rectify the situation, only to make it worse after the fact online. I wish I could get paid to sit on my butt all day and ignore customers. At least I was greeted by a lady yelling from the back, but that is considered the bare minimum, just as another 1 star review is. If I could give 0 I would especially now after realizing this is how they respond to potential customers. I will never go back. The vulgar music that was being played throughout the store was my biggest concern at the time, but now it has shifted to the way they responded to me online. If you must buy from them (still way overpriced, I don't know why you would) order from etsy and don't subject yourself to being ignored and annoyed by incompetent store staff. After reading some of these other reviews here I am certain they had to deal with this same person, and it was probably the same person who made the condescending reply to my first review (see picture). I have a hunch that most of these 5 star reviews are either from the staff themselves trying to counter the honest ones or by someone who didn't have to deal with the lack of customer service that I experienced. If you're the owner of the place and you are reading this, please reconsider who you choose to be the face of the store, they are driving your customers away. If in fact the owner was the only one in the store today, and the subject of all the other 1 star reviews here, I would recommend closing your store and finding a new line of business because you are clearly not equipped customer service.

I showed them a design that was meaningful to me--a unalome (which is the symbol for the path to enlightenment), and they said they would love to work on it for me. From start to finish, they listened to me, were incredibly kind and attentive, and kept me posted and involved every step of the way. I ended up with not one but TWO beautiful pieces of custom-made jewelry using the assets/stones from the rings, thanks to their keen design sense--both of which were well within my budget (and even ended up being less than what was originally quoted!). I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with Bespoke Jewelry, and I cannot recommend them enough--no matter what your jewelry needs (or desires) are. I love my transformed, custom jewelry pieces, and I will cherish them forever! Thank you, Lisa and Pat!

Lisa and I connected immediately, she nailed our style/taste and presented us with several different renders to chose. Our rings are just perfect. Our experience was so positive and unique that I decided to work with Lisa to design my bridesmaids' gifts for my two sisters. Again, she nailed it! We designed a ring and an enhancer. They are gorgeous and brought both sisters to tears! The process was really fun and stress free. Her customer service is truly beyond the majority of people we interact with regularly. She puts her customers first and does whatever it takes to get it right. In addition to our wedding pieces, Lisa also reset my diamond studs and designed a necklace for me and resized a couple of rings. Everything turned out beautifully! If you want a one of a kind customer and design experience, unique pieces and great value for your money, you need to meet Lisa at Bespoke Jewelry. She and her team are the absolute best.
