I did just that on a recent evening in Depot Town, as I had some time before our dinner reservation. As we walked past the shop, we realized we had never stopped in and decided to run in and check it out. Billing itself as a modern general store, you get the vibe of an old time general store with the rustic wooden floor, antique cash register, and basic necessities next to said cash register. But throughout the store, there are unique and handmade offerings on every shelf, table, and inch of wall space. I took my time looking over everything that evening, filing away gift ideas for friends and family as I saw items I think they would love. I also loved the Michigan- and Ypsi-themed gifts to celebrate local spirit. A friendly employee offered to help us find anything we needed, and while the only thing I had in mind was a very specific gift for a friend from my homestate, I knew I would definitely be back to buy that special something for special someones at some point. It looks like not much has changed since this general store opened in 1840, which is part of this village's charm. The general store has a wide variety of home décor reminiscent of old-time country homes. it's a bit pricey but there are sales usually after the holidays. It's worth a stop if you are driving through Dixboro.

When you're into shops like this like I am you'll sometimes see some of the stock repeated from store to store. But at Stone and Spoon I rarely see things I've seen anywhere else. They have really great eye and amazing suppliers that keep things fresh. I appreciate that. Last time I was here I got a few houseplants, a wax sealer for mail, a few cookbooks, and some Gus & Grey passion fruit cocktail syrup. Nickels Arcade is always a must stop for me when I'm in Ann Arbor…read more Located in a small alley near State Street and The Diag, Nickels Arcade offers a cobblestone pathway and numerous local shops that are so incredibly unique. Most shops are closed by 5pm or 7pm so I definitely recommend stopping by early in the day if you can. However, Nickels Arcade is still perfect to stroll by in the evening as well. I wanted to visit Bon Bon, a local chocolate shoppe, but unfortunately they were closed by the time I made it during my most recent visit. I loved that they offered a menu outside so I could still look at what they offered. Another shop I'd like to stop at during my next visit is Comet Coffee. I am always interested in finding new coffee spots and the window art on Comet's window was so inviting! Other shops in the alley include a barbershop, tobacco shop, and various antique shops. Spend an hour strolling through the shops. You won't regret it!
