Adorable little boutique gift shop located on the corner. When you walk up it looks like a fairy cottage with bubbles floating in the air. I have bought many things here over the years, mostly gifts. They have a fantastic room with baby and toddler items. Lots of fun kitschy whimsical things. Handmade purses, gloves, slippers. A hidden gem with lots of unique gifts and daily items with fun style. The employees are helpful, kind, and attentive. The items seem like great quality, and while it isn't "cheap", it's not overpriced. I would say they've done a great job with matching prices to actual value. The atmosphere of the store is very nice, and they offer a small sitting area, which most shops lack. There is plenty of parking nearby, as well as 2hr parking if they aren't taken. We have been here before. It is always a nice stop when in Kerrytown, our favorite part of Ann Arbor. The staff is friendly and helpful and we our our hosts, especially the smallest always find something they want. Today, limited by their small fund, a bubble gum dispenser with multi flavors fit the bill. She was pleased. I saw many items I would choose for myself, if I had the need. Nice earring selection. The entire four years I spent in Ann Arbor as a student of the University of Michigan, I never once stepped foot into this shop, despite having spent a ton of time in the lovely area of Kerrytown & more times than I can count eating at Zingerman's, which is right across the street from here. I always marveled at what a cute shop it looked like from the exterior, but for some reason, never felt the need to go in & man, do I regret wasting four whole years knowing about its existence, but not reaping the benefits of buying adorable things from here! This place is your one stop shop for any & all adorable and cute trinkets & inspirational gift ideas you could have for basically anyone in your life, and now whenever I have a loved one's birthday or the general gifting holidays come up, you can't stop me from going here to search for goodies - big and small - for all the people in my life. There are tons of options for stocking stuffers, but also tons of options for thoughtful, larger scale gifts. And do you know what the best part of Catching Fireflies is? That they have 3 different locations in SE Michigan, and trust that I've been to all 3! They are all similar in the sense that they all offer an overabundance of cute & thoughtful tchotchkes & gift ideas, but also different in the sense that no two are alike. The floor plans and the products offered are different amongst all 3, which makes it all the more fun (or challenging, however you look at it) to hunt for the perfect treasures to gift your loved ones. I ah-DORE this adorbs spot! They entice you into the shop with a bubble machine stealing inviting little bubbles in the lovely garden out front come on and every bit of the interior of the store is just as sweet and kitchy. This is a splendid spot to grab a great gift, everything from fairy garden components for the little ones to reverse umbrellas for Grandma, and your I will be entranced every moment you're in the store. Catching Fireflies is a whimsical gift shop across the street from Zingerman's Deli in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown. Passing the bubble maker inside a painted mailbox, enter through the door into a world of gifts from cards to Michigan products to candy. Our toddler especially loved the fairy garden section. I was pretty psyched when I heard Catching Fireflies would be opening another location in Ann Arbor (and fairly near to my house for that matter). Finally visited and it did not disappoint in the slightest. First off, the location is ADORABLE. It's taken over the old Emerald Dragonfly space across the street from Zingerman's and they've done a lovely job decorating the front of the store with whimsical garden space with loads of adorable touches like a fairy garden (perfect fit for Ann Arbor's Fairy Doors) and such. Inside the space is HUGE. And very happy making--a decor loaded with color and fun, and stocked with adorable garden items, gifts, jewelry and accessories, housewares/kitchen items, and plenty of items made by local Michigan artists and artisans. And most importantly--priced very reasonably. I saw an adorable and fairly intricate necklace for only $26 which I thought was a great deal. Staff here is lovely and very welcoming. This place is such a magical haven! They have THE BEST gifts, cards, and knickknacks. The vibe and energy is so positive and vibrant. The staff are exceptionally polite and courteous. They're so unique and touching-- take some time to look through what they offer and you're sure to find something that fits the occasion. Catching Fireflies is such an adorable gift shop across the street from Zingerman's. There is a purple mailbox that blows bubbles all over the front porch of this charming shop. They sell all kinds of cute eclectic silly fun gifts from coffee mugs and paper weights with sassy quirky sayings to llama notepads, stuffed animals sloths, and planners, pencils and notebooks adorned with cute prints. They have jewelry, quirky giftable books for adults and children's books, pooping unicorn keychains, bath bombs, silly socks with avocados, cats, and sushi, and childhood favorite candies like jumbo pixie sticks and bubble tape. We had a blast walking through this shop and couldn't stop giggling at all the funny cute gadgets and gifts. I was very delighted to find a coffee mug that I had been in search of for a year, that says "Damn it feels good to be a Michigangster,," an ode to one of my favorite movies, Office Space. I definitely had to have this coffee mug in my life. The cashier was very friendly and helpful and even offered to gift wrap it for free but it was really a gift to myself so I decided to pass on the gift wrap this time. They did have very cute gift wrap with brightly colored paper like a neon green polka dot paper and ribbon and tissue too. Really adorable shop! COVID19 era review. I shopped via their website for both a mailing order and a curbside pick-up order. The website was easy to use and fun to browse. Seeing all the happy things makes me happy. Good job on the merchandise curation! I bought housewarming presents for my sister in California. The shipping process was quick; they got the gifts about 1 week after I placed the order. The curbside pick up process was easy. During the short wait, we had fun hanging outside of the store looking at the pretty garden and playing with the bubbles. How have I not reviewed this place yet? It is the joy of Kerrytown, with its colorful exterior and a bubble blower active in its front garden path on the warmer days! This gift shop has saved me when I had no gift ideas. It's great for things you didn't know you needed, as well as gifts for baby showers (with its selection of child-appropriate items on the left section of the shop). It's a shame I only visit Ann Arbor once or twice every year, because I would spend a lotttt of time here. This shop is awesome! A variety of items in every well-decorated nook and cranny... art work, jewelry, children's items, gift items (I bought plenty for myself and for loved ones!), cards, picture frames, books... I can't even remember because the list goes on. It's also nice, because items span across price points, so it won't necessarily break the bank. My friend and I liked it so much that we ended up going in the store three times in one day! I visited when the Art Fair was going on, and to celebrate, they had a photo booth set up, along with 30% off greeting cards. Since then, I've become a fan of theirs on Facebook, and I've seen other deals posted here and there. (So it's probably a good idea to become a fan... but that's my tip for all brands you like.) They also had some water out for patrons. It's the little things! The staff was also very friendly. I was looking at an art piece hanging high on the wall, and they gladly came to check the price for me. They also gift wrapped all of the items that were gifts--and cute gift wrap at that. Plus the shop is in a cute location on the corner (with the delicious Zingerman's across the street) and great decor outside too. Some of the things I bought here are already some of my favorite little things I own (like an awesome luggage tag I'm obsessed with). It's a shame I was just in Ann Arbor, but it was early on a Sunday, so I missed out on going since the store wasn't open yet. Oh well, my wallet is thanking me. read more

Unique gift items with a twist. Honestly, I really like this store a lot, but there was a time in the not too distant past when I would have easily rated this location five stars, without hesitation. I didn't just like it, I loved it. While the selection of wares is still both quirky and fun and and the atmosphere too cute for words, the once sublime customer service has taken a bit of a hit thanks to a particular sales associate who waited on me the last time I was here. Honestly, she was so horrible that I considered giving this place three stars instead of four just because of that sour experience. It was that bad- and then some. However, I truly do still love the shop and the owner is so pleasant, that I just can't do that. Make no mistake, though- that one particular employee really did dampen the shopping experience for me. She was rude, condescending and abrupt, following different customers around in a suspicious manner, as if she thought they were going to shoplift (they weren't) and eyeballing everyone else. It was completely unlike anything I've ever experienced in this store before (and very unlike anything I've seen in the Ann Arbor area), and quite frankly, it was rather unsettling. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think giving customers the evil eye is the best way to entice people to part with their hard-earned money. When I paid for my delicate items at the register, she grunted and didn't bother to wrap them up, unlike any other time I've bought stuff here. She merely threw it in the bag and tossed it at me. Seriously, I haven't worked retail since graduate school, but the last time I checked, staring at customers and following them around was a big no-no. Her attitude was off-putting and she made me feel uncomfortable just being in her presence. I don't know what to make of it, but I'll chalk it up to a bizarre one-off experience and let it go, however, she definitely did color my opinion of such an awesome little gift shop- to a point, anyway. My husband, who was only half-paying attention, even noticed it and remarked about the weird vibe. At any rate, I have seldom walked out of this shop without buying something, be it handmade photo frames, garden decor, funky magnets, whimsical kitchen decor or something else. Last time my husband and I ventured down to Kerrytown, we hit up Catching Fireflies just to see what's new in stock because there's always something different every time we visit. It's never just the same old stuff. We found the most charming handcrafted photo frames and some new garden accessories in a dragonfly motif (FYI I love dragonflies and this place never disappoints in its impressive array of dragonfly-style items). Just walking up to the entrance makes me happy. It's so beautiful, with all the lovely lawn & garden art and gorgeous fauna everywhere. I feel instantly charmed as soon as I walk in the door. The first time I stopped in here, judging from exterior appearances alone, I could tell that I was going to like it, that this shop was something special and it absolutely was. True, the prices are not the lowest, but this is Kerrytown and the selection of wares is top notch. There is simply no comparison in terms of selection. This store is so charming and lovely, it's fun just to poke around and check out the decor for inspiration. I don't mind paying a little bit more for this type of quality and typically good service (the last visit being the glaring exception to the rule). Honestly, a shop like this in a larger city would probably command much higher prices, so it doesn't phase me that it isn't bargain basement cheap. Nothing about this place is cookie-cutter and I love that. Besides, it's not like I'm expecting it to be like the clearance section of the local Target, so who cares? I'm not adverse to paying extra where it really matters most. I like the uniqueness of Catching Fireflies and that's what matters. read more

The best way to describe this shop is whimsical. It is beautifully decorated and has a playful vibe. The bold colors on the walls and shelves really help bring this place to life. They carry an eclectic mix of products that I could spend hours browsing through, and this is a great place to come for inspiration for gifts! Given the decorations on the outside, I was hoping for arts-and-crafts project kits for 5-to-8-year-olds; instead, it's already-done art projects like "UOFM" spelled out in old license plate letters, salt-and-pepper sets held by stick figures made of bent forks & spoons, and a large selection of scarves.
