This place is spacious and filled with so many unique, quirky and FUN gifts! So many Ann Arbor and Michigan items for people of all ages. The card selection is massive, in addition to the wide variety of stickers and stationary. Don't skimp out on your time here because there truly is a gift for everyone. There's stuffed animals, books and onesies for children. Candles, stationary, clothing .. The possibilities are endless at RPS. Taylor Swift and Gilmore Girls section for fans. They even offer fun pop up events and offer gift wrapping for gifts! I'm a Swiftie so I loved the events catered to her! I stopped in earlier this year for an album release party and again for their event for Taylor's birthday. The staff here is so kind and welcoming. I could truly spend hours here! This was an amazing shop. They had a huge selection of funny and cute items. The Gilmore Girls selection was amazing. I wanted everything! Also, I found a hilarious mug which I talked myself out of, but wanted to gift everyone I know. The prices were a bit high, but it appeared most items were small business producers, which I value over cost. Although busy, it seemed to barely have a line, which means their service was efficient. Rock, Paper, Scissors, Score! This place offers a wide variety of fun items for many occasions. If you're looking for a quirky gift, search no further. Prices are on the higher end, but that's to be expected for a trendy area like this one and especially for a quirky niche gift shop. Though, looking up a few items on Google out of curiosity, pricing wasn't too outlying here. Staff was resourceful and kind, even with busy overwhelming Saturday crowds on the prowl for holiday shopping. They truly have items for everyone here... most of the selections are on the feminine side, yet I was impressed with the variety and selection of items. The store it self is quite big, with sections organized, ranging from themes, to age groups (ie a 'kids corner'), pets, hobbies, and more! The walls are adorned with fun wallpapers and overall the vibe in this store is fun (mostly girl energy). I enjoyed the different wallpaper / colors to delineate the different sections of the store, while still maintaining a "one store" vibe. The store was clean and well lit. It was hallmark on steroids. In terms of items for sale, they have it all. They have soap that swears, witty gifts with punny sayings, an area that could be referred to as a "pets paradise," gifts for for the chef in your life, hobby items (like pickleball), book lover gifts, and a lot more I can't even recall, because there's just so many cool things. If there's a trend, this place probably had something for it. They even had a Wicked Section, but then again, wicked is quite popular right now ;) Of course they had "standard" gift-shoppy items like "world's softest socks," purses, jewelry, sunglasses, hats, sweatshirts, etc. And If you're Swifte, this place is basically a shrine. It seemed nearly a fourth of the store was dedicated to Taylor and her fan base. They had shirts, stickers, water bottles, journals, jewelry, lip gloss, and so many other things. Even jf you don't like Taylor Swift, you still have to admire the dedication and interesting items sold here. Taylor's music was playing, so if you can't stand her voice, you may have to wait outside if others are with you, and they want to explore this place. Buyer beware - the people in the Taylor Swift section are ruthless and will cut you off, push you out of the way, and try to steal Taylor items you're trying to buy, especially if it's limited stock. Some people also lacked manors so don't expect anyone to hold a door open. Chivalry is dead in Michigan. Overall, I think a trip here is worth while, even just to get inspo for gifts or find interesting items for sale, and share a good laugh with accomplices, alibi's, friends or family, or whoever you're rollin with and just want to find something interesting. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review of Rock Paper Scissors yet! This place is one of my favorite, must-shop places in Ann Arbor and I have been coming here for over a decade now for so many goodies, for my own space and for all my loved ones! RPS is one part stationary store, where you can get wedding invitations, cards, etc. done for all sorts of holidays, but then nine parts a store filled to the brim with the cutest stuff around! A ton of my Michigan and Ann Arbor-based prints are from here and they have a ton of homegoods, clothing, accessories, etc. that are so unique and incredible, I can't even begin to explain! The store is organized in different ways, there's a Michigan section, outdoor/cozy winter section, Ann Arbor section, fandom section including many pop culture loves, there's a kids section, a more high end boutique section, a women empowerment section...the list just goes on and on. The store is beautifully arranged, the stock is turned over often so every time I come here I feel like I'm seeing and discovering new things, and they just expanded recently to the space next door, so there's even more space now for goodies!!! Rock Paper Scissors is a must-visit anytime you're in Ann Arbor or on the hunt for gifts. They've been an Ann Arbor small business staple for as long as I can remember and I am so excited to see them grow! I went here due to the Sweetest Yelp event. I found parking pretty easy which is typically not the case while in downtown Ann Arbor. I went into the location and was met by the worker in the front. She was very friendly and helpful. I asked how long they had been there and was told since 2012. That is a pretty long time. I was surprised I had never visited here. I browsed the store which was larger than I first thought. There are a variety of things in the store. There is clothing, books, dishware, spices and other various items that were pretty interesting and unique located in this store. Some items had to U of M logo and some had some pretty nifty sayings. I decided to grab a coffee cup or 2. I thought that my friend would love the cup with the special "This is how sexy I look in the morning" saying. They also had a variety of Christmas items that I grabbed one of. This was a great and interesting spot to check out and view all of the items located throughout the place. I love this store! It's always been a go-to for a whimsical experience shopping for cards, gifts, and quirky home goods. I've recently also been enjoying events they've been hosting that have brought me in more. Looks like they physically expanded the store recently-ish so there are plenty of twists and turns through the store to find something for everyone. Their 1989 Taylor's Version release party was super fun and well done, and loving the current setup to for the holidays. And yes, I will be back for their Swiftmas party in Dec... This small gem in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor is a real treat where you can pick up some cool & funny gifts. They have greeting cards for just about every occasion and they're hilarious. In addition they sell unique wall art, snacks, pins, buttons, candles and more. I think my favorite part are the stickers, as they really stand out to me. In the back theres a section with tons of University of Michigan attire, cups, and books. You can really get lost in all this store has to offer and end up picking up some art you see or a book that looks interesting. Now I will say that the staff are a little iffy. One time I came in and they were super friendly and greeted me, and asked if I had any questions.... While another time it felt like they couldn't be bothered it. I thought perhaps it was in my head, but even as I was checking out I could tell the sales person was a little annoyed, perhaps just having a bad day. All in all I really enjoy visiting here and I already know a few things I want to buy on my next visit. read more

To be safe, my family decided to do a distanced Christmas this year and that included skipping presents with the exception of my little cousin. But my aunt informed me that my cousin, who loves to give maybe more than get, was bummed that we weren't going to exchange anything so we decided to do one present each and do a facetimed "opening" session. I knew I wanted to go local for my gifts so I started at Rock Paper Scissors and, luckily for me, I ended there too! Not only is their website really great, they stocked it full of so many great gift ideas. And the best part? They offered curated gift boxes based on a theme. I picked a few boxes (a bloody mary gift box for my uncle, a "favorite things" box for my mom, etc) and my shopping was DONE. I just had to wait for my text notification that they were ready for pick up and I went and scooped them up. Pick up was at their Saline location and it was contactless as well. Just text them to let them know you're there and they bring your bags out to a table by the door for you to grab. Easy peasy! It was all packaged in lovely boxes with filler and tied with a ribbon. I ended up wrapping my boxes but reused the ribbon, which was great! It made my gifts look extra sharp. Also, every year my husband and I exchange goofy stockings but buying stocking stuffers like we normally do was a little challenging this year. But of course, RPS came to the rescue here, too! They had a gift box for this too. Just describe the recipient in the notes and they curate a fun box of goodies for them. Candy, fun knick knacks, stationary, etc. It was so fun opening the box for me, too, since I didn't know what they included. And they nailed it! I also picked some items a-la-cart for myself and my husband. The selection is great, the staffing is wonderful, and the products are worth every penny. I went into this store to pick up a bag for a Yelp event. I love stores like this. There are a ton of locally made products including the cinnamon candies from Schurms! They are a must try. There were a lot of "local" items from other states. I love buying local and small batch, so I'm glad I can experience what other states have to offer. The decorative items they have for sale are all so cute. I want to spend too much money on that stuff. I walked in and there was a young woman working at the counter. She seemed very shy. There were quite a few people in the store and she didn't interact with anyone. Suprised me a little. Still very friendly though. The place is one of my favorite stores, ever. It's full of witty, hilarious, borderline inappropriate (my personal favorite) items. They sell greeting cards, hilarious decor, funny office decorations, cute jewelry, kitchen goods, basically anything you can think of that's cute and adorable, and funny, this place has it. Rock Paper Scissors is the epitome of fun and homey combined. I stopped in to pick up a swag bag for a Yelp event but ended up doing some shopping on my own. Most booths were sorted by color and they had some well curated items. The prices were a little higher than I expected, but I'm the woman who bee lines for a clearance rack normally (I didn't see one here.) What I thought Rock Paper Scissors was designed for was gifting. As I strolled around, I saw items nearly everyone I knew would love. I picked up some Mother's and Father's Day items and returned later for an item for my spouse that I couldn't shake out of my head. They are conveniently located and there is plenty of street or structure parking nearby. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. Go when you have an hour to peruse. Prices are on the higher end -- candles are $20+, cute paper napkins are $7+ (effectively 50c each!), a beer glass is $16, etc. If you're comfortable in that price range, this shop will not disappoint. For the rest of us, it's fun to browse and maybe pick up one or two little gifts for hard-to-please friends/relatives or a beautiful and clever card for special occasion. They have a variety of items that are perfect for small or large gifts, or even for yourself! I found the perfect Kate Spade recipe book, and was even happier to find that the price was not marked up, even though it is a local place and they probably could. I opted to buy it in store and support local instead of getting it online. The employees were super friendly. For having so many random type of items, everything was in order. I have a petty side.. My family and I walked in and the two employees were leaning back behind the cash register talking to each other. I made direct eye contact with the older woman working not once but twice. Not a "hello how are you" not a smile or a "what brings you in today" no greeting . Nope she just looked at me up and down. Right there and then I decided I wasn't spending any money in this store. Which is a shame because I wanted a tea towel I saw and a baby item to purchase.... but I can be petty. I get lost in this store, there's so much to take in! If you think you're running in and grabbing a card quickly, not a chance, you're stuck for awhile. Went in needing a card for a sick friend, and there is literally so much to choose from. It's not like shopping for cards at Meijers, there you just scan the card because it's so generic that you can't go wrong with a basic card that they offer. That's not the case at Rock, Paper, Scissors, here you have a wide variety of limited personalized cards and gifts, true to the moment in which it makes it harder for anyone to choose. Example: this card is for a sick male friend, who is into trains, motocross and hunting. Sure enough I found a manly card for him, which had a train sketch on it wishing him well. Literally whatever the occasion is, you will find the perfect card reflecting the individual you're buying for. In a different section, found some more cute things to fit his personality. I love everything in there and want it all, even if the theme doesn't apply, just so cute! They also have personalized gifts for birthday parties, basically any party that you can think of, it's there! They handpick all of their items for that store, they choose designers or artists which are hand picked locally and in Michigan also across the country. Will be back quite often, (have a list of what I need) wedding, a baby delivery, birthday, Easter and Mothers Day. They are even willing to help you personalize an item for you, if needed. Stop in there when you have time to take it all in and you will, it's refreshing to see non commercialized cookie cutter cards. read more

First time i went in, it was lovely. I heard nothing but great things about it. I called today to ask what time they open, and she said 10am. I then politely responded and said i tried opening the door and it said closed. She then said, well the hours are on the door. I then politely responded with saying i thought the door has said 10, so i was wondering maybe if they were closed for lunch, since it was 1150. She then says, wait, is it friday, it opens at 12. I said, politely again, oh i'm sorry, thank you. She ends the call with "wow". She was extremely rude the entire phone call. I then waited til 12:06, and finally the worker comes and unlocks the door, with a very rude attitude. Didn't welcome us or anything. I followed her to the counter and asked who i had spoken with 15 minutes ago and she said it was the owner. I asked if there was anyone i could make a complaint to; she said no, since it was the owner. She answered my very impatiently and rude the entire time i was speaking to her. I ended by letting her know i would def be leaving negative reviews since her owner and her attitudes were extremely disrespectful and make me not want to ever shop there again. Very very rude. Great shop - lots of cool things to check out, and not overpriced for the most part. Though I am not in the market for stationary, this seems to be the place to go when you have a lot of questions or just getting started with wedding invitations, scrapbooking, etc. Not so much a craft store, but a designer greeting cards, homegoods and gift store. Many of the gifts can be personalized. Even if you aren't in the market for invitation or stationary; they offer a lot of inspriation for that hard-to-shop-for someone. OMG! To die for!! I love this store and could get lost in it for hours...just come back and get me for dinner, I'll be fine! LOL...If you are planning a wedding or decorating a room with personalizations, this is the place to get your materials! They have invitations and a whole department related to that whole thing! They have a ton of baking stuff and personalized paper along with "Detroit" and "Ann Arbor" stationary, pins, buttons etc. I love all of the personalized or meaningful....or "close to my heart" signs and sayings, quotes and just cool "words" that you can use to put on your wall as "wall art" in your home! Absolutely cute and very cool looking! I loved browsing in there with my daughter and her boyfriend. My hubby stayed outside as it was "taste of Ann Arbor" and he loved watching the people. We didn't mind as we were reading all of the buttons and signs and cards etc.! There is a whole section dedicated to "cabin life" and decorating one's cabin! Theres another section for weddings and another for book lovers and yet another spot for "University of Michigan" Geeks and the just plain old "Michigan" (as in ..the "state of" ) doo dads and thingamabobs! Lots of stickers and plaques and knick knacks you won't find anywhere else!! This was a place a girl like me can get "lost" in for hours...OK well maybe an hour..but it's really cool. Nice stuff but the prices are HIGH and not always listed. I had some intense price shock at the register. First thing I grabbed was a gift bag for $6. To me that's a bit high, but it was a nice bag (it would get re-used several times) and I was in a rush so I grabbed it. I needed some tissue paper, but they didnt have any. In a pinch I grabbed a single piece of 14x14 white paper with reindeer printed on it. No price listed, but how much can a piece of paper cost, $1? Maybe in an overpriced Ann Arbor Main St store it would be $2. NOPE. It was 4 dollars. For a piece of paper! I was shocked and appalled, but I also needed to be at my gift exchange 15 min ago, so I paid and left. All together the cost of my gift bag/paper was $10.60, which was 60 cents more than the limit for my gift exchange. With no money left I just filled it with dirt and put it anonymously in the pile. How embarrassing! I'm kidding. I grabbed something at Cherry Republic. The night was saved, but I felt like I had been hustled. read more

I have been following RPS's social media pages for a year or more and was looking forward to going in person to see their lovely, curated items. I finally made it in. The two women who seemed to be associated with the store were chatting with each other and barely acknowledged my presence as I entered even though I was the only customer in the store. I was planning to buy a number of decorative items but after asking the woman behind the counter a question and getting a stern look of disapproval and a terse response, I thanked them and walked out. I had such a different impression of the store's vibe from their social media. I imagined the store being run by someone fun, friendly, and vibrant.
