This is a lovely shop in downtown Ann Arbor. I've had a wonderful experience at this store on both of my visits to Ann Arbor. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll admit that my first visit was biased by the fact that it was during the polar vortex and that this shop was a safe haven from the cold. They could have been selling anything really and I would have loved it.... Nevertheless, Rock Paper Scissors has a great selection of unique greeting cards and gifts. They sell high quality paper product brands like Rifle Paper Co. In need of a new planner? This is your place. They also have all kinds of "gifty things." Unique Michigan shirts, cute books for travelers, new moms, brides, and students, a whole wall of magnets for different occasions, glass water bottles, specialty school supplies.... so many things you never knew you needed, but now that you know they exist you just have to have. I definitely recommend making a stop here. I look forward to visiting this shop again on my next trip to the mitten. read more

Fairly typical Main St. spot. Generally I give these types of places twos or threes but this place is a little different. I get that most of these places are overpriced. All, really. They are located in prime (read: expensive) real estate, they carry small batches of handmade items like jewelry, stationary, glass pieces and metal works. So they're stocked with small batch, labor intensive, handmade items. I'll take that over mass-produced shit from Target any day of the week. I like this place a little more than others because of their Michigan themed items. And don't start talking about Cherry Republic, I'll just put my fingers in my ear and sing, "lalala," Rock, Paper, Scissors has really unique, cute stuff that other places don't. read more

Rock, Paper, Scissors is an immensely cute place. This is the kind of store that I love to walk around when I have time to kill. Every time I go in, it feels like there's a ton of new stuff... so I don't know if they're constantly putting out new merchandise, or if there's just so much that it feels like there's always something new to see. Either way, it's a fun experience each time. My only sadness here are the prices. There's a reason I come here to browse and not to buy. It's just all so expensive! I wish this were a place I could come to actually buy things, as I'd love to support them and have their beautiful products. Maybe they should offer coupons? read more

Rock, Paper, Scissors is my happy place. Any time I am in the Main St. area I make is a priority to stop by here. It never fails to put a HUGE smile on my face! I could circle around the store over and over and find something new and fun each time. Cards, stationary, paper goods, amazingly gorgeous personalized invitations and cards, tons of adorable baby & kids products, drool-worthy housewares (lots of wine and cheese stuffs!),cutesy desk/office accessories, Lily Pulitzer sorority swag, anything Michigan pride related you could ever imagine...and OH so much more! Every time I go in there is new merchandise (with my favorites still there, so not worries on missing anything) to catch my eye. The only bad part: I never leave here empty handed (good for my mood, bad for my bank account)! read more

I have been following RPS's social media pages for a year or more and was looking forward to going in person to see their lovely, curated items. I finally made it in. The two women who seemed to be associated with the store were chatting with each other and barely acknowledged my presence as I entered even though I was the only customer in the store. I was planning to buy a number of decorative items but after asking the woman behind the counter a question and getting a stern look of disapproval and a terse response, I thanked them and walked out. I had such a different impression of the store's vibe from their social media. I imagined the store being run by someone fun, friendly, and vibrant. This is a cute store but, honestly, there are plenty such stores around Ann Arbor to put up with an an attitude. read more

This store is one of my favorite places to pop into when I am in Ann Arbor. I lived in Ann Arbor for 5 years and every single time I go back I make it a point to head into Rock, Paper, Scissors. I literally smile walking into the store and always walk out with a neat gift - for someone else or myself! If you are not sure what to get someone and need inspiration - this is the store to go to. read more

I love this store for their selection of greeting cards. There's some for any occasion and personality type. Whenever I need to pick up just a couple of cards, or if I'm stocking up for the future, I like to come here to browse. I almost always end up getting something. One thing I would like to see is a larger selection of card sets; they only seemed to have a few when I went. Another plus is the custom wedding invitations they do; I walked by quickly but the options seemed infinite! read more

Such a unique store its hard for me to say exactly what type of store it is when I describe it to people. Love the funny greeting cards they have, im someone who never sent greeting cards and how I send them all the time to people because their selection cracks me up with some of the best jokes on their cards. They have a lot of unique stuff that's fun to look at and whenever people from out of town stop by I take them by this store just to take a look as I show them around downtown Ann Arbor. read more

I just moved to Ann Arbor and I had been really looking forward to walking into this store. Today, I walked in and I bought 2 fancy candles. I had never bought this particular brand but, I love candles and I buy them often. I purchased a pear scent and a moss and lichen scented candles. I immediately went home to light them! I got home and I let one of the candles burn for over 30 minutes, like I mentioned, I buy candles often enough to recognize that there was something wrong with what I wasn't smelling. Now keep in mind that I had spent close to $80 on 2 candles. I called the store and asked them about it, I said I would bring them in for an exchange (I preferred to turn the candle off sooner than later so they could atleast a make use of it in their store or resell it at a discount). The attendant agreed and told me to bring them in. When I brought the candles in for exchange, i was told to pick out what I wanted to exchange the candles, with no problem. As I was getting ready to pay the difference for the new items I was going to purchase, apparently the owner had changed her mind and said not to process the exchange for the candle that didn't smell but was told I could exchange by the attendant. I wasn't even able to get my money back for the untouched candle that I was obviously unhappy about. The shop attendant was only doing what she was told by her owner and honestly, that's the part that makes it worse. I would have perfectly well come back to this store but after being treated like I cannot understand a return policy, I will not set foot in this store. I brought my candles and the receipt, $80 is not worth making a customer upset. If I couldn't return the burnt candle, I should have at least been refunded for the other candle, and they would have still made money from me. Now I'm stuck with a candle that doesn't smell and a store credit for a store with bad principles. read more

My fiancee and I came to Rock Paper Scissors looking to do wedding invitations for our wedding in September. I liked what I saw on their website, and when we happened to be in downtown Ann Arbor one day, we stopped in and took a look around the store. The store itself was definitely 'cute', and they had a lot of very nice looking invitations up in their wedding section. They were closing soon, but we asked if we could make an appointment to come back. The ladies working the register were very nice, but told us that only the store owner does wedding appointments, and she wasn't in the store at that time but we should send her an email. So we sent an email, and after a few days we had an appointment setup for the following week. I couldn't make it, but my fiancee went. She got some basic info, and explained what we were looking for. She also explained that we were in a bit of a time-crunch on the invitations since we wanted to have them sent out to people by, at the latest, the end of May. This was April 21st. The store owner said she would get a couple quotes put together and sent our way soon. We waited about a week, and sent her an email asking about the quotes. She said she was having email problems, and she sent them again the next morning. We took a few days to look over the quotes and decide on what we wanted to do. We then replied to her email asking to set up another appointment to come into the store and figure out all the details. That was almost a week and a half ago, and we have received no response at all. We have tried calling the store too, but they keep saying that the best way to get in touch with the owner is through email. I understand that occasionally people have problems with emails not sending or whatnot, but she has our phone number and by now should have reached out to us if her emails weren't sending. And since we have no phone number for her, we have no way to get in touch with her. At this point we have moved on and will attempt to work with a different shop, it's just too bad because it looks like the letterpress invitations that Rock Paper Scissors does are very nice. However, the lack of consistent communication is a real turn-off, and with now less than 4 months to go before the wedding, it's not something we can deal with. read more

Very cute store, beautiful wedding invitations, however the customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. They were extremely rude, took weeks to get back to me about the invitations, and the price was double what she quoted when I went in for the appointment. We ended up using another vendor for our invitations. read more

I love this fun little shop that was just added to Downtown Ann Arbor! Whenever I need stationary I come here - They have original cards and gifts you can't find anywhere else. Every city should have a Rock, Paper, Scissors! read more

I simply love everything in this place! Lots of adorable cards, wall hangings, bags, and so much more. If I had unlimited funds, I'd be buying everything. Alas, I am broke, and I just dream as I walk through this shop and look at the big price tags on the awesome stuff. A great place to come and buy gifts for many of the people in my life, but not somewhere I could justify spending money on myself. Or, better yet, a great pinterest-idea place to find things I'd like to try and make myself. read more

This is my absolute favorite store in Ann Arbor! They have beautiful greeting cards, stationary, pens, wall art, office accessories, party supplies, and just general amazingness. Also, the gift wrapping service was amazing! I bought some things for a friend, and the staff wrapped each of the gifts so beautifully for me. I am truly in love with this store, although things are ridiculously expensive here. I wish the price points were lower for the items -- it prevents many from having the opportunity to experience their merchandise. read more

Rock Paper Scissors handled my wedding invites for our June destination wedding in Colorado. They put together the cutest booklet that was very unique and super informative for our traveling guests. Their design, turn around and quality was excellent! They are total pros that can whip up anything that fits your style, whether you've been planning your wedding since childhood or just want to keep things simple. ;) Go on in, or give them a call and everything will all of a sudden get so much easier. read more

They don't allow returns.. Only in-store credit. Don't buy anything expensive unless you love it.. Other wise you will end up spending $50 on stupid cards and junk just to use up your gift card. read more

I get so happy just walking through the doors to rock, paper, scissors. I could spend hours walking through this store exploring all of the amazing things. Staff is very helpful. I will definitely be coming here for my wedding items. read more

This shop is my favorite on Main Street. I often stop in at lunch to check out any new items they carry from Rifle Paper Co, Paper Source, and more. The shop is pretty well stocked and they cram a lot of great stuff in for the size. The back of the shop is an invite creating/designing area. Lots of great colors, vendors, and designs to choose from. Unsure of if this shop has a gift registry, but the sister shop to this one is a block away, still on Main St, called Bed & Butter and they do have a registry and some higher end home goods. If you're in the area I recommend stopping in even just to stroll. They have lots of very cute items and stuff for guys too. Among the wrapping paper, local art, beautiful greeting cards, and adorable unique children's toys, there is so much more to strike your fancy. The only reason I didn't give this shop a 5 star rating is because it's so popular that sometimes if you don't grab something the first time you see it, it's gone when you go back. Also, there is a lack of low priced items. I'd say the least expensive items in the shop are their beautiful greeting cards that average at least $6. read more

Very cool, eclectic mix. Different, in a good way and a great break from chain stores.

.Rock Paper Scissors I will be a customer for life! Your customer service is amazing. Everything you did to be sure that my daughter had the wedding gift she ordered for Saturday was amazing. Your Tecumseh store wrapped it and met my son in Adrian to be sure we had it in time. All I can say is WOW! You guys are the best. Thank you so very much! Michelle M., Adrian read more

I'd like to start this review on a positive note...If you are looking for a cute gift shop in Ann Arbor, this is the place to go. The shop is adorable and has very cute wrapping paper and stationary. Now for the negative...I used Rock, Paper, Scissors for my wedding invitations, and it was a nightmare! All of the important details - quality, cut, color were missed! I worked with the owner and she was unprofessional. She complained that we had been through 15 revisions (only because the first design was completely off base). Then she told me it would take 5-7 business days to receive my invites. On the 12th business, she was annoyed when I asked for status. She said the envelopes were ready and I could pick them up. I drove to AA (I live in Birmingham) only to see that she had given me incorrect envelopes. The envelope on my proof had a V or European enclosure. What she gave me was a flat envelope. All in all, I knew this was not a big deal, but a stationary shop should be extremely detailed. Then, when I got my invitations (again I drove out to AA). I immediately noticed 5 things wrong with them. The owner was upstairs in meetings and would not come down to talk to me. I sat in her shop and talked with her on the cellphone, while she was upstairs. It was ridiculous! My belly band was made of computer paper, not quality card stock. The invitation and Details are card were completely different colors and the cards were not cut evenly. I will say at the end (after getting my parents involved), she did give us a significant discount for the invitations, which was very nice. If you use her, just be sure you understand the type of card stock, the envelope and the quality you are getting. read more

My favorite store to frequent. They have a lot of cute items, lots of stationary. I really like their Michigan section. They have Michigan and Ann Arbor themed pencils, books, flags, postcards, and more! The cards are what I come for - they're super cute and you can't find them at your local CVS or Walmart. They're not cheap, but they are definitely the kind of cards you end up keeping in a memory box. For brides-to-be, it looks like they also do wedding invitations. There's a meeting section in the back of the store with all the invites they've printed on display. read more

Every time I go into this store I find some fun thing for my house, workplace, or to save as a last minute gift. As a bonus, there are many humorous things to look at so you are sure to get a laugh as you peruse the merchandise. I will probably head back for a I Miss Ann Arbor shirt to give as a gift. read more

Because Yelp is a forum for honest customer feedback, I would like to provide some: Rock, Paper, Scissors is a wonderful shop that brings a welcome sense of quirkiness to Main Street. This is now the ONLY place I shop for gift cards and stationary, and every time I walk in I am overwhelmed by the wonderful sights and smells, and incredibly friendly service. There is definitely a feminine slant - lots of florals and craft ideas and (intoxicating) scented candles. While all of the employees seem to have fun at their jobs, I never see the owner without a smile on her face - whether she is talking with an employee, potential customer, or even rearranging a display some clumsy customer (cough, cough) knocked over with her backpack. I can't recommend Rock, Paper, Scissors enough and now that everyone I come across has heard my spiel, I wanted to tell Yelp users who may be looking for a change of pace from the CVS card aisle. The owner is all about supporting local businesses, and there is plenty of Michigan-themed art done by locals for sale. The next time you need a gift or card, why not support a wonderful new local business - I dare you not to walk out with a gift for yourself, too. read more

Very unique store with lots of Michigan/ Ann Arbor stuff, perfect for presents, etc. just a little pricy

I came here to purchase a Shinola planner and decided to purchase 3 packs of Shinola notebooks once I was in the store. I was content paying a premium to support a local business. However when I decided to return 2 of the journals a day later, they refused to refund me. The journals were still shrink wrapped and Shinola accepts returns(with refunds) on this product. Obviously I'm frustrated and disappointed and wish I hadn't shopped here. I understand their return policy for loose paper items, but for shrink-wrapped items this doesn't make sense! read more

I LOVE this store! What's not to love? If you're in downtown Ann Arbor and you have a free moment, you wont be sad you went!

I came to this store to look for wedding invitations and gift ideas. Within the first minute of being in the store, what I am sure was the owner was in the back room screaming and belittling an employee for at least 10 minutes! Poor girl was in tears. The lady walked out and rudely said "Can I help you?" All I told her was maybe next time she should shut the door when she is screaming at employees so customers don't have to hear it and told her how unprofessional she was. She just walked away into the back room and shut the door. I will NEVER step foot in that door again or recommend it to anyone. The owner is extremely unprofessional and heartless, to employees and customers! read more

This is a great store. Went and bought engraved flasks for a bachelor party and they turned out awesome.

I special ordered a custom birth announcement and they failed to send me the proof for several weeks. Had to call to get it sent and they were rude about it, stating they had already sent it. I checked all inboxes and my trash and it wasn't there. The owner, Lisa, finally sent it with a note reminding me she had already sent it. Really? Just say here it is and let know what you think. Well, the long awaited proof was ALL WRONG. For example, was supposed to be pink and green and it was red and blue?!!?? Was supposed to have a cross and it had a giraffe instead. Called and she sent me another proof, which was wrong again. Replied to the email I would be in that day to reorder and clear up any confusion, as my original order obviously got lost. Went in. Lisa was rude, put out, treated me horribly in front of other customers, implying I was too picky. Really? Just want what I ordered...sat at your big wooden table with an associate, who was very pleasant, and filled out the order. Lisa claims she never lost my order, but there's no other logical explanation for the numerous mistakes, which were NOTHING like what I ordered. To top it all off, they charged my credit card again when I went in to correct their mistakes. They made a special moment, like ordering my baby's birth announcement, an unpleasant debacle and rude experience. I have been a loyal customer since moving to Ann Arbor in 2012, buying gifts there and cards. If I didn't want the birth announcement so badly I would've canceled the order based on the sheer rudeness of Lisa. The mistakes I can forgive, but the attitude was seriously uncalled for. I will never step foot in that store again, which I'm sure they could care less, as Lisa said, "I do t have to do this order for you?", prior to my reminding her I paid upfront for it and the mistakes are ALL THEIRS, not mine. Ughh...love supporting downtown, but not this place!!! read more

Was recently in to get some cards and witnessed a family being treated horribly by the the store associates. The family was a husband, a wife and a baby in a stroller. The wife was explaining the store messed up her order and was trying to get some help. A different person came out to help her, maybe a manager or owner, and was so very rude to this lady. The lady explained again that her order was wrong and this manager treated her so horribly that the husband walked out. They left the lady at the counter waiting for a long time. I was witness to it all. I kept shopping and went further into the store where two of the sales people were joking about how long they could leave her standing there. I went back to the front of the store. The husband was outside on the phone to the wife still inside. I heard her say she was mad too, but wanted her order and would be out in a bit. She had tears in her eyes and was trying to entertain her baby while the staff ignored her. This store has cute things, but you can easily find these things elsewhere. I put back the cards I was going to buy. I won't support a store who treats people like this. read more
