I had to go get some last minute supplies for a class (despite not wanting to step FOOT in this store after my last experience) and she yelled at me and my boyfriend for us asking if there was an item in stock. Is there a way Michael's can be aware of this behavior?? I'm sorry but she needs to be fired. Tanya treats people the WORST and it's no longer a "bad day" when it's everyday behavior. The framing department is a nightmare. Tomorrow will be a week that I have been waiting for a simple double mat to be cut to fit into an 11x14 frame, nothing extravagant. The lady who helped me find the correct matts was very helpful, but I was totally surprised when she said it probably wouldn't be cut until the next day since she was working by herself. Okay, no problem, I can come back tomorrow to pick it up, right? Wrong! I have called every day since, and it still has not been cut. Either no one is working, or they don't come in until 5 o'clock, or they went home sick, or they say maybe tomorrow, they will have someone call me. I heard that twice now, and not once has my phone rang. I strongly suggest going elsewhere. When they open today, I will be calling to see if it is finished. If not, they should refund my money so I can go to their competitor and get it done. It is where I should have gone to begin with. I wish I could give negative stars... Today, was the last time I will ever set foot in Michaels. I asked an associate for help, BUT she didn't want to look up at me. At first I thought she may not have heard me, but she said she was stocking. So much for customer service... As a side note, I did note that she had helped another couple by walking them to where ever the product may have been... But she didn't want to look up from what she was doing to help my wife and me. Why does someone working in a Michaels have a job? I assume that it's the customer... You've lost at least 2 customers. What happens when you don't have customers walking in your doors? Michael's always makes me feel like I want to create something! Michael's always has something new & exciting. My latest visit produced several great finds including 50% off lights and other Christmas decor. I bought 4 sets of lights! I'm a kid again at Michael's during the holiday season! Cinnamon scented pine cones, angel lights, Christmas lights, santa earrings, wreaths, etc. Check out the clever clothes pin clips and sturdy used to hang my Christmas cards this year. Also found a beautiful wreath (& the hook) to hang it on our front door - HALF OFF! Can you tell Michael's has, once again, warmed my holiday spirit heart. I suggest avoiding the busiest days - Saturdays & Friday nights. Especially now with limited staff due to COVID. My only con - it was super busy with too few cashiers (2) and a long long line waiting. read more

This is the closest Michaels to me and since I've been limiting my exposure to the outside world these days (I have a family member that is immunocompromised) I've been ALLLLL about getting my craft on. So I love that I can buy things from their website and pick them up a few hours later from their store. Limits my contact with other humans but I can still do my needle punching, gum paste flower making, and more and have all of the supplies I need. You can also apply great coupons to the purchase and save a load of money. When I'm NOT avoiding other humans I love to come here and stroll around and get inspiration for other projects and such. I've built terrariums from things I've found foraging through the dried flower aisles, I've gotten inspiration for cake decorating projects from their Wilton aisle, and their holiday decor is OFF THE HOOK. This past holiday season they had great old school plastic decorations and I got a big ol' plastic Santa that I've been wanting to find for YEARS. Parking at Arborland is never pleasant but once you're in it's worth a visit. And shout to Michael's for updating their carts here, too. They used to be impossible to even push in a straight line and now they're smooth. It's enough to get me singing....They see me rollin', they hatin', shoppin' and tryna catch me on a craftin' party. read more

I've visited Michaels more frequently throughout the pandemic to get my craft on as I've mostly stayed indoors. Almost always there's a coupon I can use from the website to apply to my purchase and another coupon you get with your receipt upon check out. I like to visit just before and after major holidays to get the best deals on seasonal items. read more

If you need craft items, then this is the place to go.... they have lot of things under one roof and one needs to take time to find what they want, unless you know where things are located and you have execution plan on where to go, what to buy, cash out and leave. I go here twice a year when my nephews from China visit, as they want to pick up some stuff to take back that they can't purchase in China... I haven't done a full exploration of the store, but if you have time, look around.... parking can be hectic from time to time, but it all depends on what time of the day you go. read more

The brick-and mortar store nearest me is decent. I've never received horrible customer service there, but never better than average service either. For being such a large store, their item selection is not particularly impressive, and the layout is rather cramped and confusing. What really takes my opinion down, though, is their website. The online inventory is rarely accurate, so you can't use it to check stock before making a trip for that one last-minute item you need, and I have had orders canceled or had the wrong item sent (a cheaper, lower quality item, no less) because the item I wanted was out of stock. And it ended up being up to me to secure refunds for these items- they were not automatically issued, even when my order was canceled by the store. I'm far enough from the nearest location that going there requires a special trip, but since the hassle of using the website isn't outweighed by a great in-store experience, I can't really justify shopping here anymore. read more

Michael's over at Arborland has a lot of craft supplies, like the bigger chain, Joann's, which has two locations in Ann Arbor. I'm not sure what differentiates one chain from the other, except that Michael's doesn't have fabric, unless you only want a few prepackaged fat quarters. I have gotten a few jewelry making supplies there, oh and several colors of #10 crochet cotton, which I use for big stitch quilting, a primitive style of hand quilting. Michael's has basic quilting supplies, but I actually don't get much from there, or Joann's, because the quality level I'm after is just not available at a national chain that tries to appeal to the vast majority of crafters with low prices for high volume. I like the Clover product line; I use pins, needles, etc., from other small specialty manufacturers such as Piecemakers, John James, and Jeanna Kimball, but I don't see their products here. I like the bargain bins close to the checkout area, where I usually get my one-year appointment calendar for only a buck. Way cheaper than the same from an office supply store. If the outside is plain, I get stickers from the scrapbooking aisle and decorate my calendar so that I'd recognize it in a heartbeat. Can't lose that thing -- it's an important adjunct to my brain. Michael's takes "competitor" coupons, which must mean Joann's, because I don't know of any other craft store that has coupons. Check your Michael's receipt -- there's often a coupon on that, to encourage you to come back again soon. read more

I prefer to support local businesses, but sometimes a chain like Michael's is the only place around that has the arts and craft supplies you need. I do like our local Michael's store. I've bought a variety of arts and crafts supplies here, including watercolor pencils and oil pastels. They also have a small selection of science toys and experiment sets, and I bought a "Make your own gummy bug" kit here as a present. I also like their bargain racks; I recently picked up a set of 10 notecards for 50 cents and a tiny notebook with pen for my purse, also for 50 cents. 3-3.5 stars. Try to get a coupon and then wander in here. Wander in here not knowing what you want and you'll be overwhelmed. This location seems to me to have more merchandise than a few other Michaels I visit. It almost feels like Sams Club or Costco to me with aisle after aisle. I do notice that I can find less gift items here (meaning no work is needed) and more general crafting tools and supplies (meaning work is needed). I've never had a great customer service experience here. Staff tends to wander as well and not really interact. I think generally at the back where they do custom work customer service is generally good at most Michaels stores and the rest of the store including the front is average at best. Many Michaels stores also use this loud overhead system where intrusive announcements are made. It kind of completely and totally lol ruins the otherwise nice atmosphere. Oh, one other note, if you live here it's a good place to stop in after the holidays and at the end of the year. You'll see decent discounts and may find unexpected items you like. read more

I decided to get some art supplies to distract myself at home while being on maternity leave, so me and my fiancé decided to go to Michaels to get some acrylic paints. As soon as we walk in to the store there are a handful of employees hanging out in the front just talking to each other, no one told us anything about wearing mask (which we left in the car). As we are going through the aisles looking at supplies, passing by other store employees, we end up in the back of the store looking at the high end paint brushes when all of a sudden this tall lady with dirty blonde/ greenish hair in a pony tail starts yelling at us about having to leave the store because we didn't have a mask. She literally starts pacing back and forth, grabbing her head as if she just witnessed someone getting murdered, she starts paging the front about how there are people with no mask, how they are out of extra mask and we have to leave, after maybe having an epiphany she tells us that she will see if she can get us masks (we could have gone to the car and gotten our mask but the whole time she is speaking and doesn't let us get a word in), seeing her over react gave me anxiety. She then comes back and let's us know that someone will bring us masks as she disappears into the back room, she doesn't even look as us while talking to us. A really nice girl then comes up to us and gives us two mask. After that I was so livid and uncomfortable that I went to get my paints and left. I will not be returning here, the aggressiveness while approaching us was extremely unnecessary and wrong from her part. read more

They have all sorts of nifty craft stuff, plus cute décor and DIY projects. There's not really any fabrics though - go to JoAnn for that. I've had a pretty great experiences at Michael's, unlike everybody else here. I think that the yarn selection at JoAnn's is better, but the yarn selection at Michael's is cheaper, so they usually win out (there's also frequent yarn sales). I think their selection of zippers is kind of lacking and a little disorganized, but they really are mostly a craft supplies store and less of a regular store. Also, I recently went in to purchase something for my niece, and I picked out two kitten plushies. I asked the cashier which one a ten-year-old girl would like best, and she ended up ringing up both for me with my coupon, which made them the same price as one. It was pretty nice of her. read more

I enjoy shopping at Michaels. The one thing I'm not a big fan of is that things are always moving around so I have to search for them. But I'm a big fan of most crafty things so that won't detour me from continuing to purchase!! Unfortunately they do seem slightly under staffed when I come in but from what I've found out is the company as a whole has cut corners which means less help for customers on the floor. I use my coupons all the time. I love that I get emails to save me money but they do send them a lot so I made a separate coupon email. I make it easy to save money but not load up my normal email with spam. dont attempt to return/exchange ANY merchandise regardless of how it was purchased - even with a receipt. Michaels store policy is you must show a driver license to return an item - mind you, they do not require a license to PURCHASE it...so imagine a tearful 15 yr old who tried to exchange her yarn (with a receipt) and was told that they would not exchange it without a driver license! On another note, the policy requires you to show ID and the employee then enters personal info into a database (i.e. phone number, driver license number, address etc) that Michaels maintains! They wont offer up their security plan though when asking how your info is protected. read more

Horrible Customer Service, long story short but i have given the Ann Arbor Michaels more than 2 chances and every time the Employees are rude, specially most all the Cashiers.. i think i had one nice one once... and I am or was a frequent customer. I got most of my things there to make cards for my business. I hate the fact that i go in there happy and i try to smile and be friendly to everyone working there.. its what i do, i love to be friendly but then i end up leaving up set and in a bad mood because its how they treat you there. They should either close down or start weeding out the bad employees including management and start from scratch with new and better more friendly people! Heck i wouldn't want to work there my self with the attitudes i have seen. Sorry Michaels but i have given you to many chances... and because of this, I will shop elsewhere even if i have to do some online shopping I will avoid Michaels at all costs, i dont care even if i have to drive further for better customer service then i will but never again to Michaels! read more

I realize that reviewing Michael's is kind of silly, because it often happens that if you need something at Michael's, even if it's not the greatest branch there's not anywhere else to get what you need. Michael's has a good niche. So good that they know you'll shop there even if they're rude and unorganized, which I have found at this location. I think the store is really hard to navigate--they need much better signage and organization. I was looking for glitter for almost 20 minutes. I asked a salesperson to help me find "just regular glitter," and she directed me to 4 different places, none of which had regular glitter. I found Martha Stewart $10 glitter, glitter glue, and glitter paint. Finally, I spotted an aisle marker saying "glitter." Aha! Found it! Siiiike, actually the aisle was labeled incorrectly and said glitter was in the adjacent aisle. It takes at least twice as long as necessary to find what you need here. I have also had a bad experience returning something, with two young ladies being pretty rude. I went to the cashier and said I had a return, she looked at me and said, "I don't do returns." Welllll, ok then, find me someone who does and don't be rude about it. Then her manager was clearly unhappy to be doing her job of returning my items and was also rude to me, she acted like it was a tremendous chore. As a store overall, they're pretty pricey but can have some great sale items. Unfortunately I'll still go here for some things because they're the only place to get them, but if I had a choice I'd go elsewhere. read more

I visited Michael's today and was very dissatisfied with my experience. In their defense I did enter right before their closing time, but as it was for emergency homework supplies I feel it was ok. I was greeted at the front by an employee whose only words to me were to remind me that they were closing. I found the product I needed but no price was given on it so I had no idea of the cost for the geometry compass until I reached the register. At this point they had closed and we're reminding all shoppers to make their final purchases so I had no time to return to the back and get a more affordable option. I only go there for painting supplies, so I can really only comment on that. Overall stock is extremely overpriced, near 40%-50% higher than online retailers. However if you get a good coupon (40% or sometimes 50% off a single item), the price is comparable to online. You also get it the same day, which is useful especially if its urgent and you cant wait for shipping. read more
