Didn't realize I could miss the constant crowds at Zingerman's in downtown Ann Arbor by going to this location south of the highway. The candy is delicious- though it's pretty fed as a premium product so be prepared! I stopped by here when in A2 this past week, I was visiting the Bakehouse for a work article. We have recently written about the Candy Manufactory for work too so I was curious to actually see it! I've never actually had any of Zingerman's candy bars so I bought two full size bars, plus a small version of the Cashew Cow. I think both the Zzang and Peanut Butter Crush were equally good. The store also has non-Zingerman's brand candies, such as Venchi, which is also a high-end brand. The shop doubles as a coffee shop, as well, and I think may have also had some small food items, but don't quote me on that. Overall, I would return the next time I'm in town. read more

Every time I come here, I discover new yummy things I want to try -- more often than not recommended to me by the WONDERFUL people who work here & know their candy! They've helped me pick out candies for gifts as well & I have heard rave reviews after gifting them to my friends! They truly have something for everyone here -- from the oddballs (she says lovingly) who are obsessed with black licorice to the vegans! OK - I literally almost verbatim'ed Darrin K's Yelp review with thinking that I would open this review with "DO YOU WANT TO FEEL LIKE A KID IN A CANDY SHOP?!" He's got it on point that it's like that Willy Wonky scene where Gene Wilder let the kids indulge in all the goodies. Each time I've been, I've always been helped by a really amazing gal - I can't remember her name now...but she's so sweet and let's me sample ALL the things! You really find some fantastic, unique gems at Zingerman's Candy Manufactory. Right now, I'm really digging the legit Swedish fish -- nonnadat red artifical coloring & flavoring -- and the spiced pecans. They also carry non-Zingerman's product which makes for a nice breadth of product to pick from! read more

This place is a tiny slice of heaven. I love candy! I love Zingerman's. I love this place. It is an adorable little alcove in their coffee shop. While I have heard about this industrial area for many years, I never had the chance to visit until now. We came here for a baking class but came extra early to shop around their stores before our session began. It was near impossible to decide what to sample, but we had to get a couple treats to graze on before our class. We decided on some pate de fruits and some marzipan. Both were extremely fresh and amazing. I love pates de fruits because it taste like the fruit slices I grew up eating but this was fresher and made with real fruit. It was a perfect bite. The marzipan was delicious and the chocolate ears had an amazing snap and a great flavor. All of their marzipan was adorable. They also have so many chocolates to choose from plus unique wrapped candies on shelves. We will be back with the entire family to explore more. This tiny section is a feast for the eyes as much as a feast for the stomach. read more

I've been a huge fan of Zingerman's Candy for a few years now. The Original Zzang! Bar being my particular favorite, as well as their marshmallows (both vanilla and chocolate--vanilla for cocoa and chocolate for snacking), peanut brittle, etc, etc. I had always hoped this incredible treat manufactory would open their own shop like the Bakehouse, Creamery, and Roastery and now they have! YIPEE!!!! The shop is small but mighty, stocked full of delicious treats. All my faves are carried here, plus the whole line of ZZang! bars, fancy peanuts, chocolate covered coffee beans (with beans from Zingerman's Roastery), plus seasonal sweets like chocolate covered matzah for Rosh Hashana, chocolate covered Karamel Krunch bites for Halloween, etc, etc. Plus a few imported candies that they really love (like amazing fruit and floral flavored hard candies, Italian melon marzipan treats, and more). If you're curious about the candy making process, you're in luck! They have a huge window to look into the production kitchen. Watch them cook down sugar and peanuts into brittle, enrobe delicious candy bars with chocolate, etc etc. It's so fun! The staff here is so very kind and generous. Curious about something? Ok, so we got a gift basket delivered to our office, and this magical concoction they refer to as peanut brittle was in it. Wow. While I love the taste of peanut brittle and its ingredients, I'm always apprehensive to eat it due to the potentially ensuing dental appointment that could result; it can really do a number on your teeth. Well, fear no more, because with Zingerman's you will never have to worry about any of that. It's amazing! While it has the crispness of peanut brittle, it's also got a softness to it that melts in your mouth. It's impossibly delicious and totally addictive. My boss asked me how it was, and my response was "life-changing". Now, I know that might sound a tad over-dramatic, but it's the truth. You'll never know peanut brittle until you taste this. You can taste the love in every buttery, golden, peanut-studded bite. After sampling, I promptly ordered 2 boxes online just in time for the holidays. Way to go, Zingerman's! read more

This was a really cool event! Thank you Annette and Chelsea for adding this one into the made in Michigan series. When I walked in I was immediately transported to a candy shop straight out of the original Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. The names, the packaging and the display areas were all set up in a fun and playful way that enhanced the overall experience. We started out with a background of where the ingredients came from and the process of making the various products in the shop. We then had peanut brittle samples which were not hard like some peanut brittle but firm and crumbled easily in your mouth. I am not usually a fan of peanut brittle but this was excellent. We watched it being made on the stove in a large metal pot. The peanut brittle person (yes, that's someone's actual job, #lucky) stirred it constantly with a large wooden spoon, then took it out of the pot and placed it on baking sheets where she pulled it apart by hand and while it was sill hot! This in itself was awesome to see We learned a lot during the demonstration including that they use a special sugar called muskavato sugar which they passed around and to me it smelled and looked like really good brown sugar. They are very hands on and everything is made in small batches, the candy is best when it's made fresh and is only kept for a maximum of a few months. They treated us to 'What the Fudge' candy bars freshly dipped right off the line and still warm. They were soft and delicate. They reminded me of a very upscale version of a Milky Way bar. Followed by sweet chili peanuts which was born out of a single family that decided to start breeding a chili for themselves. They wanted a mild heat and lots more flavor which they couldn't find on the market so they made it. The nuts were crunchy and flavorful with a spicy buttery flavor that I really enjoyed. Lastly we had chocolate marshmallows which were divine. They're chocolate marshmallows with chocolate pieces in them and dusted with cocoa. I ended up getting a 4.4 oz peanut brittle and 8 oz bag of chocolate marshmallows to take home a bargain at $4.99 and $5.99 each Thank you Yelp, Anette and Chelsea for this sweet event! Have you been in here? because I knew all about the Bakehouse and cheese/gelato place but never knew the Candy place was here too!?! First of all, everyone who works for Zingerman's is extremely kind, helpful and so knowledgeable about their product. It's truly kind of amazing. Everyone should train their staff the way they do... but where do you find such great people all the time??? hmmm.... It's like Disney or something. seriously. Second: the CANDY.. forget the Zang bar, which I thought could not be topped because I just opened the dark chocolate covered brittle, and SWEAR: I have NEVER liked brittle before.. and this is my new fave candy! I bought it because it was on sale and just looked so amazing... and she was so nice.. made me want to buy things... and now I am the happiest candy girl ever. I think I was eating stale? cheap? brittles before??? I don't know but they shouldn't even call this brittle.. it is beyond brittle.. so good. (gave it to my husband to hide from me because I bought the BIG bag) also bought beautiful Valentine candies and lollies for the fam...and cinnamon covered peanuts... I only give four stars because the shop is small and somewhat limited with higher-than-average prices. That said, I had a great shopping experience! They do not carry traditional brand name candies, but instead have their own candies and a few more exotic chocolate bars or ginger candies and whatnot. The best part? Free samples. The nice young woman manning the cash register offered us plenty of samples and gave us help in our purchasing decision. I got some marzipan, which was seriously the best marzipan I've ever tried! Personally, the prices are a little steep for me...candy is candy, right? But if you are a specialty candy lover, I'm sure this place will earn 5 stars in your book! read more

This store was new addition since the last time I visited. A friendly face greater us and told us of the different candies we would find throughout the store.
