Bon Bon Bon - POt O' Gold in shops this Friday!

They have an array of flavors of bon bons (chocolates with a filling inside) lined up behind the glass case including fudge brownie, peanut butter and jam, and much more unique combinations that I paid no attention to because i was enamored with the rest of the shop. They had all sorts of knick knacks, stickers (some were for free!), mini greeting cards, shirts, tote bags, cool shaped chocolates on the shelves. Each bon bon is $3.50 and it gets individually packaged in a tiny box. If you're feeling extra, you can buy a cute cardboard carrier case for your chocolate treasures ($2). Otherwise you can still get it packaged in a cute box for free (pictured). As for the actual bon bons: - The fudge brownie one had a deep chocolate flavor with only about 35% sweetness which was quite dismaying. - The PB&J one was sweeter which I liked and the jam added a bit of tartness. Comparatively, this bon bon had more complexity than the dark bitterness of the fudge brownie.

The woman working today was very helpful. Although I declined, she was willing to pack their dog-friendly white chocolate bone in bubble wrap to take on the flight home. They had run out of their prepackaged dark chocolate truffles, so she suggested that I pick and choose from the display as it was the same price. I definitely plan to come back if I happen to stay near the mall in the future.

The service is friendly, if not a little too watchful of your perusal however the food is both bold and mute. What I mean by that is for each of the flavors you either have too strong of a flavor or too light of a flavor. For instance let's take a look at two classic fudge flavors, peanut butter and chocolate, the chocolate is far too strong as if there is too much cocoa powder and the peanut butter it too light tasting mostly of powdered sugar instead of peanut butter. Not to say it isn't inedible ( that would be a 1 star review) but with how strong the flavors are it isn't preferable. This applies to all the flavors and other items as well. The other items such at the truffles are hard, not due to anything like nuts but because the chocolate isn't made to be soft yet stable. Getting something like Lindt truffles from a grocery store far beat out the truffles here unfortunately. This trend is continued with the other items available as well, nothing hits the spot and is either too strong or too weak in flavor and texture.

The case of macarons was beautiful , multicolored rows of well labelled flavors. We each made some selections and ordered some drinks. Our hosts ordered a large French press pot to share. I had time to speak with staff about the last k of space for baking and how they arrived at so many flavors. They do not bake onsite but receive frozen shipments from the main bakery in Grand Rapids as handiest the Holland, Michigan store. They defrost enough each for each day so they never run out of flavors. They were some of best I have ever had. Nothing like what you might find in the bakery section of a grocer. This is an historic residential building retrofit with a nice conversion to retail without losing its charming brickwork. I will definitely return when next in Ann Arbor.

It's so appealing. The macarons displayed in the case were equally appealing. I don't recall all the flavors, but I had a tough time picking out flavors for my friend and, of course, something for me. I chose three macarons to enjoy at the shop: blueberry, coconut, and strawberry cheesecake. I liked the delicate crack of the macaron shells and the creamy, flavorful centers. Each sported a design to distinguish itself from the others further. I also had a piping hot Earl Gray tea along with these treats. Espresso, French and Italian sodas, and lattes are also available. Customers stopped in throughout my visit for a quick purchase or to savor their macarons at nearby tables. Service was disappointing.

The location itself is essentially a house. The entire business is spread across the different sections of the house. It's a bit unusual when you first walk in, but you very quickly grow fond of it, due to the ties that the business has to the family that started it, in that very house. The core is exactly what you would expect, very homey type of vibes. We received an educational session at the beginning. After that, we proceeded with the chocolate making experience. It was unlike anything that I've done in the past, and it was wonderful for myself and my coworkers who were there as part of a work retreat. We had a wonderful time, seeing the process behind the scenes and walking out with our own delicious chocolate bars that we made ourselves.

There were plenty of samples throughout the presentation! You learn so much about chocolate and the process to make it. The truffle making process was fun and you get plenty of options for toppings to roll them in! I forget how many we were meant to make per person but there was enough for everyone to make quite a few extras and cute little boxes to place them in. Overall a really fun experience and Alicia was super knowledgeable, friendly, and funny throughout the whole process. They also have plenty of their chocolate for sale during and after the class. They have so many different types and flavors as well as lots of seasonal ones as well. Their chocolate is on the pricier side - but it truly is of exceptional quality and ethically made so definitely well worth it. Would definitely recommend doing one of their workshops/classes!
