Glad we stopped in here. I found a couple items I have been searching for! I wanted to try the large marshmallow cookies, but I was really, really craving the toasts that are like a cracker. I have had them in France and Mexico, and they are so good with butter and jam dunked in some hot coffee. You would think they would be easy to find, but it took me several stores to finally get them. I wish this place had Weetabix, but they no longer carry it, and due to the viral trend, they are sold out all over. I loved the variety of interesting foods. I would come back for some of the candy and other food items. They also have some interesting home good items for sale, like a yakatori grill, couches, etc... The people working here were extremely friendly and chipper. The only issue I have is that their prices are higher than most places that sell the same products, so I would not come here for items like Buldak noodles unless you really cannot find them elsewhere. Very disappointed in there customer service regarding there expensive robes...My husband and I were browsing the robe section.We saw they had good selection. Some silky texture some velvet.As he tried to try on one the belt is tied in a million knots ...You cannot get out.I dont lnow who toed theses knots but its very tacky...I fell in love with 3 robes , We purchased them.Forgetting about the knots in the mens robe..But we purhased the womens robes...Well i get home and he wants me to model each robe...Im so excited I pull them out and startto put on ....But I cant ..Because its tied in huge intricate knots ....I try to use my fingets and nails to get out Once I get one level ofk ot out ...Another huge multi knot appears after 30 mins!!!!! I finally get the knots out of the belt ...then to notice another set of Japanese style bondage type tied knots inside robe on the interior inside tie ,Thats keeps robe closed snug ..This and all the robes each took me almost 2 HOURS !!!! To get set free...We are so furious and disappointed.. One for them putting theses knots in there in the first place ,And second ruining my night of play and dress up.These robes were over $170 dollars for all three.But the pain of disecting those knots was ridiculous. I will be forwarding this complaint to corporate..If they are putting the knots , They should remove them before you purchase!! This was the first time in many years that I've been in a world market. Since it was the week before Christmas, it was very busy. Everyone was cheerful, and the employees were extremely helpful to everyone who needed help. The place is set up by foods, kitchen items, furniture, and knickknacks. They have a little bit of everything, and I don't know how you could leave without buying something. We went mainly for the imported foods. We were not disappointed! I had been wanting to shop here for weeks, as online it showed they sold a particular pasta I was determined to find/ buy. I love the variety of items they have under 1 roof: home, garden, candles, kitchen, bathroom, artwork, mirrors, furniture, dishes, appliances and... food and drinks from all over the world. It's so difficult not to just fill your cart with every item you see/ smell/ feel and go, "Oh, that's nice/ sounds or smells so good!" They might not go with your decor but you'd like it anyways! They Didn't have my specific pasta (sold out?) but I bought similar types that were 2nd or 3rd choices. There's woman who rang up my purchases was very pleasant and I enjoyed chatting with her, especially when she was complimenting me on multiple things: earrings, purse, nail color. This store is a gem! My favorite part of going to World Market is their food/snacks section, with curated goodies from around the world. I appreciate the sticker labels that show the countries that each snack is from. I also really enjoy all the home decor stuff they have, and am currently still thinking about a cozy sweater I saw last week that I didn't buy... maybe I'll have to go back for it. They also have fun and unique gifts and knick knacks. It's simultaneously a unique shopping experience while also being a great option for picking up things you need anyway for daily life. I ordered three Christmas ornaments for my children and paid an extra $25.90 for 2-day delivery. The package arrived 7 days later with one item missing. I called and was informed that the missing ornament was on backorder and my order was canceled. I guess they weren't getting it back in before Christmas, since I wasn't given a choice to cancel, was just told it was canceled. On top of that, they informed me that their 2-day shipping begins when the carrier has the package in hand, not when the order is placed! I find this outrageous. When I have ordered 2-day shipping any place else, it arrives in two days, not one week later. If you shop online, do not pay extra for faster shipping. And since I was never informed that the ornament was on backorder, I would advise going into the store to make your purchases, rather than ordering online. They have lost my business permanently over the shipping issue. I could have overlooked the missing ornament, but the combination of the two told me that this company is not run well or managed well. The general undercurrent to all my thoughts about World Market is that I wish there were more locations in SE Michigan! I loved shopping here throughout my 4 years of college in Ann Arbor and I have noticed its absence in my life since moving away. It's like a Homegoods or a Kirkland's, but it just offers a whole other set of unique options for your interior decorating desires! I highly recommend all college students to check this out as you're moving into your new places each year to learn about your aesthetic and add some flair into your spaces! I haven't shopped here since the pre-pandemic era, but this past weekend did a curbside pickup of some very cute aprons. I make a point to visit World Market whenever I'm in Ann Arbor. It's about 40 minutes from my house so not close enough to come often. Their stores were closer to me when I lived in the South so I miss being able to pop right in and out. They have a great selection of fair-priced furniture. The quality is good too. They have great sales and have multiple small furnitures on hand so you wont have to wait for delivery if you can drive it home. I pretty much got laughed at by the big name furniture stores when I said I needed 6 chairs 2 wks before Thanksgiving. With the pandemic, Delivery would have been 6-8 weeks. I prefer to buy items that I've eyeballed as much as possible so I had ruled out online stores. So I went to this Cost Plus World Market and voila, they had the perfect chair for me, great quality, and awesome customer service. Best part is they had 6 on hand so I took them all home that day. I forget how much I love this store. The variety of ethnic home goods is exceptional. Even during this Covid pandemic the store is filled with customers bouncing through the aisles checking out everything. The food and beverage sections are my favorite. You can find unique items that are reasonably priced. I also enjoy the kitchenware and furniture sections. With Pier 1 reduced to an online store it is nice to still have World Market's brick and mortar environment that satisfies the live hands on experience. At WM you can find something for everyone in your life. The weekends is the worst time to shop here if you want to take your time and explore the store. read more

The Ann Arbor location is amazing - cannot say enough great things! Beautiful furniture, decor and hidden gems to find. The price is fair and the quality is high. Definitely would choose this store over competitors for the uniqueness. The store was also very clean and spread out and I felt very safe (all employees were wearing masks, plastic shields were installed and they kept their distance). I had an incredible experience with Thomas on my last trip. He helped me track down two beautiful dining room chairs and even loaded them into my vehicle! He provided hands-on and prompt service and even sent a follow-up email to make sure I enjoyed the style and that they worked for my family. Cannot recommend Cost Plus World Market enough and the Ann Arbor location is especially lovely. read more

This store is so much fun; even my boyfriend enjoys shopping when it's our destination! It has tons of unique items for the home, along with toys, food, alcohol, & more. All of it has a bit of a hippie feel in the sense that you'll end up with items that are more eclectic than incredibly sophisticated (not that items can't be both, like the wall art). My favorite part is the cheap jewelry. I've purchased earrings for $2 that have lasted me through the years & bought a $5 pair during my last visit. The food/drink section is also a standout & provides an easy way to find new takes on your favorite grocery items. We got lychee dark chocolate & matcha chocolate last time. Lots of coffee syrups & fun drinks (alcoholic & sodas) too. While World Market does have great prices, it's not in the same realm of Big Lots or stores like that. I'd say it's between a TJ Maxx & Pier One. WM is more individualized & has unique items, displayed well, that make you feel like you're at a super fancy store. It's such a gem! read more

Checked them outline for a small circular looking basket-thingy chair that my wife wanted and drove there. The exact model wasn't in stock, so they ordered it, and we picked it up in-store a few days later. She also bought some dishes. Both were a tad pricey but very high quality. Everything in the store looked super fancy and expensive, so I didn't spend too much time wandering around. They sell beer but only weird craft beers and a few international varieties. Located in a strip mall is upper middle class Novi. There is a large bar/pub on one end of the strip, most of the rest of the businesses seem to be Asian. Inside is a small clean grocery which handles goods from Japan. A small stock of beers and wines/Saki from the main islands, but nothing from Okinawa. Soy, miso, various cuts for Japanese cooking, popular snacks from there... Very polite staff. There is an attached sushi area for dine in and take out. Good sushi. They close early there, before the rest of the store, but I have seen ethnic Japanese in there dining after the time it is posted closed, so I suspect it is closed early just to Gaijin. read more

Cost Plus doesn't have the most extensive selection of anything, but there are a few gems in each retail category. Most recently, I found harissa after fruitlessly searching in several other markets. I also like Cost Plus for gifts. They have many inexpensive fun or unusual items like soaps, notebooks, jewelery, or housewares. Cost Plus is definitely unreliable. There is no guarantee any given item will be in stock even if you've bought it here before. I generally like World Market. I won't go into details about what you would find at Whole Market - because if you don't know, you should really get your little booty over there and check it out. So I'm just give you the low-down for the nitty-gritty stuffs: 1. Parking is pretty decent. You can generally find a spot, and for A2, that's a great thing. 2. The selection of furniture is pretty lacking - there isn't much there, and what is there is all over the place, so it makes it hard to find what you're looking for. 3. The check-out lines at xmas stink. But generally when I'm in here, it's pretty decent. The people that work there are super nice and friendly. Overall decent place to go, but don't bother if you're looking for furniture. Also, just don't shop during the holiday season. It's such a bad idea. Ha. read more

I was introduced to this place kind of by accident when exploring the area after moving out here. I didn't stop in the first few times and then my curiosity got the best of me. World Market is definitely not the type of place you just want to go in to do your shopping, but it's a great place to hit up if you need something and are willing to do some comparing with other places. For example, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted for a dining room set and couldn't find something exactly right anywhere else (even Pier 1 and Pottery Barn) but World Market had exactly the right set. They have great table linens and kitchen/dining options for the savvy shopper as well as an interesting grocery department. And on that grocery department? A word of warning. You can find MANY of their ethnic food choices in your local grocer's ethnic aisle. World Market carries ready-made indian, thai and chinese that is a bit marked up, so skip it. However, they have additional items that you might NOT find at your local grocer, even if it's got a good ethnic selection so stop here once you've gone elsewhere. I really like World Market for holiday decorations and interesting gift wrap choices as well as scented tea lights, pretty candle holders and small house-warming gifts. Their lamp selection is terrible but for wooden furniture, comfy counches and chairs, scarves, and interestingly scented candles you can sometimes find a steal. I LOVE Cost Plus World Market!!! If you could distill a human being down to an essence and then turn that essence into a store, this is the store I would turn into (well either this or Anthropologie... okay fine probably Anthropologie, but Cost Plus is a close 2nd). You can find lots of unique, international (& retro) food and drink items, from candy to Congac (candles) to curry! The have some lovely home furnishings as well - although some seem a bit pricey to me... but still it's a very nice eclectic selection (similar to Pier One but a bit more exotic/authentic?). Some of my favorite items to purchase here include Clearly Canadian soda (Hallelujah they brought it back!), Singapore Laska Curry by the Snapdragon brand, random snacks & candy, as well as beautiful bar ware. I have a growing collection of Gold faceted glasses, Moscow Mule mugs, plates, bowls, placemats, and many more. Besides the (sometimes) higher price points, the only other negative in my opinion is how few locations there seem to be (remaining) in Michigan. Apparently there are 5 total locations, TWO of which are right near each other in the Grand Rapids area (lucky bastards! :P) I believe there used to be one on Hall Road somewhere but it must have closed...(le sigh). I used to go to the Westland location quite often many years ago before it closed and as I recall there used to be one in the Novi area that also closed years ago... I SO miss the World Market that used to be in Madison heights, so much that I now travel to Ann arbor... An hour away! It is definitely worth the drive. What can I say about CPWM that others haven't said already. This is a great place to come if you're bored or have money to spend on frivolous/essential/random things. If I was rich, you betcha I would shop here. I love their art section but currently am in no position to purchase anything due to the lack of funds. They also sell a wide variety of infinity scarfs for only $10! Which is a major steal. They usually have deals or discounted items in the women's section (jewelry, clothing, etc) and have some awesome candle scents. Another fav section of the store is the good section. You can find a good selection of sweets from other parts of the world. There's usually coupons you can also use, whether it's from online or Sunday newspapers. read more

Very affordable and well made. Dishware, linens, kitchen gadgets are all quality and reasonably priced. I love shopping around for inspiration on what to cook for dinner, as well as, new home decor. Fun shelf-stable import food, some cute furniture --- but no fresh imports, and hilariously incompetent cashiers. Marmite, salmiak salty licorice, and African beer, check. Faux-salvage coffee tables, check. No Swedish cheese or dried-corn-ear centerpieces, the two things I was looking for. The checkout was a zoo --- one cashier was trying to get everyone in line to feed backwards through the queue, rather than fixing the sign that was sending them the wrong direction. The best experience I've had in a store ever! We were looking for patio furniture and were quickly greeted happily and asked if we needed help (by who we found out later was the store manager Tom). Not only did he direct us to all the options but because it was the end of the season he worked with us on price. We ended up buying something much higher end because of the deal he found for us and even allowed an out of box discount to take the display. They also worked very well with us on helping us load (and we ended up needing to disassemble a bit to fit in our car) and they even helped with that. Oh and we were first time customers so we received a 15% discount by signing up! This was our first time shopping here but will be the first of many due to the excellent service and friendliness of all! A typical Cost Plus, maybe a little larger than the one in my hometown. They certainly have a bigger furniture department. Our hosts were furnishing a new home and were looking for few more pieces. They found some, though one was out of stock. But the sales staff was able to set it up as a rain check. Though I am rather in the downsizing furniture stage in life, I found a few things quite enticing and might still get one of the items from our local location. read more
