For the first time ever we tried the Tire Center at Costco. Purchased 2 new tires almost 3 weeks ago & scheduled for installation (as required). Were told tires would arrive "in a few days". After I didn't hear back, I called. Tires were still not in. A few days later they called to say tires had arrived. (3 weeks later) Dropped car at 3:30pm was told they would finish 1 hour to 1hour & 15 minutes. An hour later I received a call to say they'd just pulled car in. Were told in addition to the 2 front worn tires that both rear tires were "damaged" - one with a nail and the other with a tear in side wall. I know it sounds crazy, but an automotive place had just serviced the car as well, I glanced at but never saw this damage prior to dropping off the car. Also felt like this was quite a coincidence that the 2 "best" tires with tread were now "damaged" and also needed to be replaced. No accusation here just suspicion. Costco suggested we buy all 4 new tires at ticket price of about $170 each. (For a 2009 Honda accord so not the biggest tire) The situation felt off/odd - so I phoned my partner. My partner Recommended we keep to original plan and have them replace the two (rear) damaged tires now in place of the 2 (front) worn tires. We asked if they would place the 2 new tires on front while replacing the damaged since vehicle is front wheel drive; they said "no" they couldn't do that because.....? 2 different people told me 2 different reasons why they could not do this. Two hours later I retrieve the car but also voiced my concern about longer than anticipated wait time, the apparent attempt to upsell us, & discrepancy regarding why. I have mixed feelings because Costco reportedly is maintaining its DEI policy (vs many other retailers who backed down) But I couldn't help wonder whether I would have experienced same treatment had I : 1)been a man 2) been not a Black or BIPOC person 3) been a white male. I appreciate that the tire center manager was nice and tried to assure me of honest best practice. The customer service manager, though, had a much less concerned and more nonchalant attitude. They have mostly the same things as every other Costco near us. The gas lines are reasonable. I really appreciate some of the elderly folks at the front who check mark your receipt! We recently had success in the optical department. My husband was on the hunt for a new pair of glasses and sunglasses. We never know what we'll find, so we took a few minutes to browse at the selection. He's picky, and I was shocked that he found 3-4 different frames that he liked. We ended up getting both the glasses and sunglasses, which was amazing. The employees were very friendly and efficient, and the glasses were ready in 3-4 business days (quicker than we were quoted). Somehow, I spent nearly six decades as an American consumer without setting foot in a "warehouse"-type store. It's a little overwhelming on the first visit. And the second....the third.... I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. If you're not someone routinely buying for a very large family and who has room to store bulk packages of toilet paper, cereal, frozen chicken breast, etc., it might take a while to figure out how to make good use of Costco's bargain offerings. What brought me there was the value-priced hearing aids, as some questionable parts of those nearly six decades are coming back to haunt me. I'd heard good things about their hearing aids from acquaintances, and the prices my doctor was quoting for hearing aids were approaching decent used car levels, so I got the discount membership deal through Groupon and signed up for a hearing test and fitting. The technician who helped me with this was very pleasant and professional, carefully explaining the different hearing aid options and guiding me through my first use of the device. So far, after about half a week of using it, the hearing aid is serving me very well. No complaints about that part of the operation. And not many about the rest of it either. Since joining we've also bought a set of tires, various food and drink items, and of course some cheap gasoline. The food has all been tasty, fresh, good in quality. Their house wines have been excellent bargains. The major drawback with their groceries is that it's practical for us to buy many things in the quantitities they offer. Like I said, we'll figure out when it is or isn't. The experience of shopping there can be stressful--you are always running into someone's cart if you're out near the center of the store. At least the self-checkout line has always moved quickly. I don't envision trying the food court simply because after contending with the noise and congestion of shopping there, once I've got my stuff I just want to leave. Sitting immersed in that ruckus would just drain the pleasure right out of a pizza slice. Unless maybe I turned the hearing aid off. read more

The house Kirkland brand is value priced and highly respected in reviews. VODKA - picked-up a huge 1.75 liter bottle for only $12 COGNAC - I love Cognac. I didn't pick any up but they have a high-end XO rated French Cognac from the Kirkland brand priced in the high $60s. I have too much to carry home. Can't comment on the flavor. read more

I paid $47 for prepared king crab leg and they have 2 pounds for $54+ here. The claws are almost as big as my hand. Picked up some multivitamins, AA batteries and some pineapples too. Spring is coming, patio furniture and BBQs for sale. Cinnamon rolls and dried mushrooms, things I can't eat since it's sugar and gluten among other things. read more

This is one stop shopping with lots of selection in every department. Reasonably priced and there is nothing bad about Costco. The store is well organized and easy to navigate. The cheap gas and affordable eyewear is definitely worth the membership. If you get any auto works done here, they fill up ur tires for free. Also pharmacy is cheaper than any other chains. I was impressed with the desserts quality. The baked goods are amazing especially the cakes. One of the best Tres Leches I have ever tasted. And we love their Tiramisu. They have a food court area with quick service and good choices. They always have long check out lines. Wish they had self checkout lanes like Sams. During this pandemic, there were visible cart cleaning going on. Masks are required and they were limiting 2 people per membership. read more

I came to this Costco Friday night about 1/2 hour before closing for bagels. There was only one package of bagels left, so I took it up to check out. The cashier said he could not sell me one package. I explained I would happily buy two, but the store did not have two left, and I needed bagels. I asked to talk to the manager on duty. The manager said the same thing. I asked the manager to give me the bagels, since they could not be sold. Again she refused, so I had to drive to another grocery store to get bagels. I was already tired and late, so you can imagine how I felt about this store! I don't understand what they were going to do with one package that "could not be sold". Throw it away? Ann Arbor, you don't know how lucky you are! The average Costco shopping experience in California, regardless of the location, is an exercise in patience and stress management. If it's not the crowded parking lot, then it's the elbow to elbow maneuvers inside and seemingly interminable lines to check out. Here's a hint, four people in front of you isn't a long line. Imagine our surprise pulling up to get mass quantities for a family party Friday afternoon, the day before a home game. You mean there's actually 100 choices for a parking spot? No winding line at the food court? Relatively unpopulated with shoppers inside? Surely this must be some wickedly teasing parallel universe? Then I saw the whole dressed lambs hanging in the frozen section and it brought me back to reality, a pleasant one that day. Best shopping experience I've ever had at a Costco! While it's true they stock by demographics, and some things are regionally specific, the lower sales tax in Michigan means that you walk away with greater value. The standard burger patties are large and yielded compliments and interest the next day at the party. I gave them a special touch of spice but otherwise their quality to cost ratio is undisputed. Ergo the buns and pitas used for a kabob meal that evening. The produce and party supplies also meant we left with more green in the wallet than usual. The line to pay was nonexistent, I had to check again, absolutely incredible. If I could stand the freezing cold winters and gray skies I'd consider moving back. Until next visit, we'll endure the masses in every Costco I know of in SoCal. read more

I thought the first few visits it was nothing but after a few more trips I have discovered that the employees are indeed the issue. I have seen how they have interacted with me and other members. This Costco seems to be very well supplied with the various accouterments we are used to seeing at the big box stores. It is better than some of the others we've experienced in the west, and perhaps it's a supply chain issue that doesn't affect A2 as much as other places. We do like the fact that they occasionally have UM gear that's of high quality, as well as some relatively local (midwest) items not available in other places. The furniture selection is actually quite good, and it seems reasonable since there are circa 40k students looking around to furnish their rooms/apartments etc. as needed. read more

Arrive at my appt and she has no recollection of speaking on the phone. Giving me different info than I wrote down when speaking with her. So I got to sit on the ground holding my dog for nearly an hour in the cold and wind and they still haven't even started putting on the tires. First off, this Costco is ALWAYS busy. No matter what time of day I come I'm stuck waiting in some crazy line. 2pm? Line. 5pm? Line. 11am? Line. It's always hopping. As such, it's not always my favorite place to go (I really have to steel myself if I'm crabby). But busyness aside, this is a pretty solid Costco. The building is pretty new so it's nice and organized and they have a good selection of produce and prepared foods. It's just my husband and me at home so we don't really buy a lot of bulk food, but for stocking up on toilet paper, paper towel, toiletries, and La Croix we love it and usually go once every month or two for that. I also visit a few times a year for work and love their prepared foods, desserts, and liquor selection (Hot tip: the Kirkland brand Vodka is actually Grey Goose!). We also used a lot of their prepped and frozen foods for an easy/affordable post-wedding brunch at our house a few years ago. The frozen mini quiches, muffins, and bulk bagels and smoked salmon are perfect for that. The gas station is also pretty nice and much cheaper than most gas stations in the Ann Arbor area. Although I wish they still accepted American Express. My work card is an American Express and so when I buy things here for work events and such I'm having to take out my Visa. read more

Love coming to the food court! Well-priced, tasty, and fast. What's not to love? My favorite here is the combo pizza. You can get a hot and fresh slice, or order a whole pizza for your group of friends. We ordered over the phone, and it was ready for pick-up in 10 minutes. We tried using our Visa Costco anywhere card to purchase rail passes in Switzerland for our upcoming vacation. I called Citi Visa in advance to notify them about our online purchases and our vacation. I made 3 attempts to purchase tickets on line, speaking to a Citi rep as each purchase was denied. City then froze our card. I do not recommend using Citi visa for travel. read more

It's Costco! This location is good, I really like that they have the acai bowls in the dining area, apparently other locations don't all have those. They're probably the best deal you can get as far as acai bowls go-- they're tasty and packed with fruit, the only downside is they use banana chips instead of real bananas. It's worth noting that because this location is so close to campus, it gets very crowded on the weekends. And the only complaint I really have is that the men's clothing doesn't go down to small size, and the medium is already pretty big. If the clothes fit your though, they're a great deal. But yeah, otherwise the usual Costco fare: huge item sizes, lots of samples, Kirkland brand of most things is excellent. read more

I finally decided to give Costco a try. Hubby and I went there together for the first visit. There is a cold room for some of the produce. You have to get five pounds of grapes at a time, so you had better like grapes. They have nitrate-free lunch meat and Canadian bacon. SCORE! The regular bacon had regular nitrates, but I don't eat that stuff very often. Just read the labels if you care. Jarlsberg cheese for about $4.79/pound. SCORE! Hubby's favorite cheese. Seaweed snacks. SCORE! I don't have a sweet tooth; I have a salt tooth. Yes, a lot of these items come in jumbo-sized packages, so you have to take the extra storage space / expiration dates into consideration. I still have a giant roll of plastic wrap from our Sam's Club days. As soon as we use up our old, old friend, I'm only getting the regular-sized package! The prices of some things (olive oil, nuts) are actually better than Meijer. Some are actually a bit more pricey, so if you really care, get stuff at both stores. Patrick, who signed me up at the customer service desk, explained that at the end of the year there is a rebate on the purchases made that year. Hey, I won't turn that down. If a person shops here enough, the membership pays for itself. Costco has a pharmacy, eyewear, savings on travel, and even a car buying program. Hmmm. Hubby's commuter vehicle has been taking a pounding on the Michigan potholes. Maybe he can get his new wheels through this "no-dicker" car buying system. I did find the parking lot to be a bit insane on Saturday. Before I could back out halfway from the parking space, someone zoomed by behind me! But I don't have to be a victim. I noticed that I can park out on the edge of the lot, and there's a sidewalk between the rows of cars that I can use to get to the front door without having to brave the frenzied shoppers. read more

What I chose is (235/40R18, 95H, All Season) and Costco changed to (235/40R18, 91H, All Season) which has lower load index than my car required. 12/31/2017 - 4/10/2018 3 times flat tires and got warranty service from Costco. Finally, Costco found their fault at the 3rd service. I claimed tire and damaged wheel to Costco but Costco only accepted tire offer. They did not understand the basic definition of load index at all. I gave up and bought new wheel with my own cost. 5/26/2018 Costco installed tire which has right load index (95H) but changed to summer tire without any notification to me. I did not know that they installed summer tire at this time. 11/28/2018 4th Flat tire and I noticed it is summer tire through my friend's help. I claimed new All Season, 95H but Costco denied with below 2 reasons. - In May, 95H and A/S tire was not in the stock. - The summer tire and A/S tire are not different on winter road condition, especially for your VW CC. Both are dangerous so you need the winter tire anyway. I met Costco warehouse manager and Tire Center Manager on 12/04/2018. Manager said "I heard that Costco tire center informed you about installing summer tire and you need winter tire in winter" I said "No, you did not inform me about this and I just noticed the summer tire in last week. If you informed me in May, I would order and wait for all season tire. Manager said "There is NO PROOF so I cannot do anything." This means Costco warehouse manager insists you are a liar. What can be said about Costco? It's surprisingly got great quality in pretty much all the items it sells. I've been a long time member and have probably spent easily over 10k here already (a few TV's and furniture over the years). The one thing that I really can attest to, is Costco's guarantee on quality. I've had a couple odd items fail after a short time, and Costco staff happily refunded me the money for it (thereby allowing me to go right in and buy a replacement). A great place to shop if you want bulk items, keep in mind some items are not the best quality tho (clothing being one big exception, at least to me). Kirkland shirts and pants always seem to have thinner material and fray a bit more. Might be just me. read more

This is a review of their Tire Service. If it weren't for the very good price on Michelin tires, and the price of the entire package it would be zero stars. These jokers at the desk are either ignorant or liars. Or both I suppose. I have purchased 4 sets of tires from them over the last 4 years. It's getting worse each time. Most recently: 1) Went in for warranty service for a screw in the tire. They refused to fix it saying it was too close to the edge. Maybe. I think they could have safely fixed it if they wanted to, but why would they want to when they can just refuse and sell you a new tire? The tire was actually rather worn and only had 10,000 mikes left on the warranty. As I have a AWD vehicle I knew that would mean a purchase of 2 tires. I told them to inspect the other tires, which they said they did. They had to order the tires locally and said they should be in the next day (Sat). Sat morning came and no phone call. At 11:30 (1.5 hrs after opening) I called and was told the tires were in. I scheduled installation at 4pm. At 5:15pm, they called me in store to tell me that the other 2 tires were badly worn and need to be replaced. I told them to go ahead, though I wondered why they hadn't told me that the day before when they were supposed to inspect ALL The tires. They said they had to order the other 2 locally and they would either be delivered Sunday or Monday morning. At 11:30 on Monday morning I was sitting in the parking lot, right outside of the service Gay's and I called to see if the tires had been delivered. The guy on the phone said he would "go back and look". 15 minutes later he came back on the line and said they hadn't but they get deliveries about every hour and he thought they should be there soon. Interesting, I watched every moment I was on hold and he NEVER checked the stack of tires that were sitting in bay 4, wrapped in cellophane. At 4pm I called and a different person answered the phone. I asked if they had been delivered. He said, rather flippantly, "did we call you?" I said no but that you had never called be when they arrived in the past and that's why I was calling. He said he would check. He came back and said they had not come in. On Tuesday, I called at 2pm and was told they would not arrive until Thursday. I've scheduled an appointment for 1pm on Thursday. What makes matters worse is that they offer rebates on Michelin's for a time and switch to Bridgestones. Back and forth. You had better hope your tire fails when they're having the sale otherwise tough rocks. You're paying full price on your next set. Ineptitude and marketing scans make this a torturous adventure. The problem is that no matter where you go, Belle Tire, Walmart, Sam's Club, Firestone, or the absolute worst Discount Tire, they will all screw you. Maybe Costco is no better or worse but that's no excuse. read more

I wish this Costco was here when I lived in Ann Arbor for 3 years! I had to drive all the way to Brighton to get my goods back in the day. This is a pretty typical Costco. The one item that is different is that cigarettes are sold in Michigan but not in California. This Costco probably has a little bit more variety compared to other Michigan Costco as there is more ethnic foods here because of the clientele.
