After I took in a movie at Scotiabank Theatre across from CF Polo Park, I decided to dine at this Red Lobster. It was a short drive over. This restaurant has been here for eons. Months after moving to Winnipeg, I dined here with a friend. Things haven't changed much. I got here just past 5:30 pm. Red Lobster shares its parking lot with Olive Garden. I managed to nab the last parking spot by St. James Street. There is more parking across the street near the pharmacy if need be. I've never needed to park there. The beautiful thing about being a lone diner is being able to get seating faster during the dinner rush. I got a two-seat table. Yay! I arrived during the last fifteen minutes of happy hour on a Wednesday. It's between 3 pm and 6 pm on weekdays. I looked at the happy hour menu. It was up my alley. I got these items: - Tropical white sangria - Seafood-stuffed mushrooms Kody was my server. He was polite, attentive, and nice. My only alcoholic drink on this trip was the tropical white sangria. I don't know whether staying in Steinbach rubbed off on me or if I was thoroughly hydrated with non-alcoholic fluids. I felt like sangria, so I got a glass. I loved it. It had Barefoot moscato with pineapple and mango juices. It also had a splash of Sprite, which added bubbles to this drink. It was all good. It was fruity, fizzy, and yummy. The seafood-stuffed mushrooms came out next. I love this appetizer. It's one of my favourites. The seafood stuffing is divine. I love mushrooms. Having the stuffing housed in a set of mushroom caps, topped off with melted monterey jack cheese made this starter so perfect. Classic. Delicious. Happy! It was tough figuring out what I wanted as a main. There were seafood boils that were fairly new. I saw a couple of boils come out in bags at the table across from me. The corn on the cob looked amazing with an assortment of seafood. There was so much food that I couldn't do with after downing an appetizer. Instead, I went with the seaside shrimp combo. I hadn't had shrimp for a while. It had Walt's favourite shrimp, garlic shrimp, and shrimp linguini alfredo. I got to choose a side that came with this combo. I got green beans. I love this shrimp combo. I don't know who Walt is, but I do like his favourite shrimp that is lightly battered and deep-fried. The exterior was consistently crispy and the shrimp were plump. My favourite is the garlic shrimp. I love garlic. I love butter. I love shrimp. I don't want you sitting next to me afterwards. It's pure deliciousness. The shrimp linguini alfredo was so creamy. I don't normally order it, but it was worth indulging. The linguini was al dente. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. Everything was coated in the best alfredo sauce. So good! Green beans are one of my favourite sides. I loved them here. They were the perfect side. Kody came by to get me Diet Coke refills. I lost track of how many I had. Each glass had ice in it. It was perfect with everything that I ate. He asked whether I wanted dessert. It wouldn't fit, which made him laugh. We got to talking about what I had planned on doing afterwards. I had already been at CF Polo Park, exercising my credit card. I thought that I may grab a few snacks at the local grocery store was in order before heading back to Steinbach. I paid my bill at the table. I tipped and tapped my credit card. Done! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean and nicely maintained. It was great coming back to this Red Lobster. I probably was a Winnipegger when I last sat down to have a bite to eat. There used to be a pizza-spaghetti place. It no longer exists. Well, here's to making new food court memories! I looked around and saw this Edo Japan food stall. I love Edo. Perfect! I got a nice, attentive woman behind the counter. She was great to let me review the menu and figure out what I wanted. I got the following: - Chicken teriyaki on rice - Gyoza - California roll - Diet Coke in a bottle I like making my meal a bento box. It allows me to select two appetizers. I went for the gyoza and California roll. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was set. I watched my teriyaki chicken and veggies in action. My gyoza were also heated up on the hibachi grill. The California roll was already pre-made. I saw a woman start making some as I was about to head to a table and eat. It was cool seeing my food made in front of me. I enjoyed it. The man asked if I wanted teriyaki sauce. I said more would be great. There was a bit of a language barrier. I could tell that he was more comfortable asking me how many scoops of sauce I'd like. I said two. Perfect! One scoop of teriyaki sauce is the norm. I am so not the norm. Two works better to coat the chicken and the rice. I found a table and was ready to enjoy a late lunch. I love that no matter which Edo you visit, the food is yummy and consistent. I loved the chicken teriyaki on rice. The rice was perfect. The chicken morsels had good flavour and sear, and were delicious. The veggies were great. I was happy. The gyoza were great. They had chicken filling in it and were flavourful. The wrapper on each one was pan-fried. So good! I washed everything down with a Diet Coke. The bottle was the perfect size. I had a great experience. Let me tell you, this food is da bomb! We got the casama platter, loaded elote and the tots. The star of the show was the birria tacos. Loaded with lechon as the meat and dipped in that filipino au juos. Man I'm drooling. THE FINAL BAMBOO: I'm hoping they get a website up and running because I want to know where they usually post up! Most of my meals were delivery. I'd call in my order and one of the family members (mainly the dad back then) would happily come over to deliver my food. I have dined here a couple of times. Spicy Noodle House became my go-to place for yumminess and a bit of home cooking away from home. My favourite meal was the beef brisket in noodles. The beef brisket was tender and incredibly flavourful. It reminded me of how my mom made it, but without the turnips. This place took them out, which I appreciated! The noodles were thick and chewy. The broth was so good. I never had a disaster with the broth getting delivered to me. I also got these huge dumplings that were filled with pork goodness. Sadly, I don't see them on the menu anymore. However, if you get something similar, such as their wontons, you can't go wrong. They are so delicious and comforting. This place is generous with portions. I have also had their mooshi. I've done the pork, beef, and chicken. I am missing the vegetable to complete my mooshi mission. It was all good. It's funny how I only have had mooshi in Winnipeg. Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse was the most popular Japanese restaurant then. It didn't and continues to not have ramen on its menu. Sushi restaurants were starting to bud in the city back then. On my first day in Winnipeg earlier this month, I wanted to grab dinner before driving to Steinbach. Since I had never had ramen at a restaurant in Winnipeg, I did a search and found GaiJin Izakaya. I said yes and drove over to this eatery. This restaurant is located in a plaza. There was plenty of parking when I had arrived. I parked and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a woman. I asked if I could get a table. She led me to a booth. I'm glad that I beat the dinner rush, as she asked other customers after me whether they had a reservation. There was a QR code on the table. You scan it to access the menu. The drink menu was there on the table. It was also online. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Gyoza - Miso ramen (bamboo shoots held) - Black sesame ice cream I added gyoza for $5 to make my miso ramen a combo. I recommend it, as gyoza as an appetizer on its own is $14.50. My miso ramen came with miso broth that contained both pork and chicken flavours. This dish featured chashu, wakame, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a marinated egg. I asked if I could get the bamboo shoots held. Done! My Diet Coke came out first. I got a glass with ice. I appreciated that gesture. I poured my beverage into the glass, which made my drink nicely cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. My gyoza came out next. The filling was pork and it was delicious. Each gyoza was flavourful and perfectly fried. They were crispy and yummy. My bowl of miso ramen came out next. I was excited. The best move that this eatery does is to separate the roasted seaweed from the broth. Most eateries dunk the sheets of seaweed in the ramen and you end up eating soggy, flabby seaweed sheets. I appreciated this detail. I had a bit of roasted seaweed left and put it off to the side on a plate so it wouldn't get soggy. My server was super effective clearing items off my table. She was about to clear my plate with the seaweed on it. I asked her to hold off, so I could grab my seaweed. I can't let that go to waste. I loved it. I was also paying for good roasted seaweed. The miso ramen here is exceptional. You can tell if the broth doesn't excite me if I don't consume the entire thing. I did here. The combination of pork and chicken broth with miso was tasty and brilliant. It was wonderful. I'm drooling. The ramen was bouncy and had the perfect chew. The slices of chashu were thick and tender. It had good flavour and I enjoyed the balance between the fat and the protein. I normally get corn, but completely forgot to order some. Oops! I was content with the green onions, wakame, and jammy, marinated egg. They pulled everything together to make this miso ramen so special and comforting. I was ready for dessert. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There was matcha and black sesame. I chose the latter. I don't have black sesame ice cream often. It was so creamy and had a delightful nutty flavour to it. It was the perfect ending to this meal. My server was attentive. She got me the bill. I let her know that everything was fabulous. She was delighted. I paid with a credit card and tipped. I tapped and I was done. I used the washroom before I made the brief trip eastbound to Steinbach. It was clean. No complaints. I got melon candy as a parting gift. I loved it. It's always a favourite of mine. This eatery is a gem for delicious, authentic ramen and gyoza. Come here! Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get, and the service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The interior is clean and modern, with tidy tables and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. It's rare to find a spot that nails both quality and value, but GaiJin Izakaya does exactly that. Easily one of Winnipeg's best-kept secrets -- this place deserves way more recognition.

I even saw an old lady reach under the glass/sneeze guard to point at food and her coat sleeve brushed against the food. It was gross and I walked out. Not sure what they did with that food. In summary: Food is good. Breakfast is made in the back and I recommend. Lunch/dinner/catering is good, but only have it when its fresh, otherwise i'd avoid it. Bifana, pork sandwich with caramelized onions, banana peppers and hot sauce goes for $3 or if you add on the soup of the day comes to $5. The home made soup was great, not salty at all, you can taste all the fresh veggies in there. So good. The bifana can be ordered with beef instead, called "prego" though pork is traditional. Wonderful sandwich with great flavours so get all the fixings. The bakery is another huge winner as it's still as good as I remembered from my last view a couple of years ago when they first opened. Their cinnamon buns are more doughy but I like that and has just enough cinnamon and brown sugar in there without it being too bloody sweet which I hate. Their baked items change daily but Saturday has the most flavours to choose from. You gotta try the chorizo in a bun for $3.50 - it's essentially a calzone, bread filled with sliced strips of home made chorizo (made in house, which you can buy as well) plus mozzarella. The wonderful guy working there who was super passionate about the food suggested getting this heated up and filled with caramelized onions if you eat it in store. Do the same if you take it home or add a fried sunny side up egg and make it a meal. I came here on my birthday for lunch. You can choose from a free original grand slam or build your own grand slam on your birthday. There was lots of parking in front of the hotel. I found an available spot to park my vehicle and walked in. It didn't take long for someone to greet me and lead me to a booth. Nancy was my server. She was efficient, friendly, and exceptionally competent. I let her know that it was my birthday. She smiled and nodded. She didn't ask for proof, which was refreshing. She let me know what my options were. I kept it simple and ordered the original grand slam. My original grand slam consisted of these items: - Scrambled eggs - Bacon - Sausage - Pancakes The only item that I paid for was a Diet Coke. I got unlimited refills. Nancy was attentive, making sure that I always had Diet Coke. It was cold and fizzy. My food was delicious. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly. I loved having bacon and sausage. I didn't have to decide. I got both! They were yummy. I loved my pancakes. They were fluffy with butter on top. I got a bottle of maple syrup, which I happily used. Perfect! I paid for my drink and tipped generously at the table. I paid with a credit card. Done! I used the washroom before I headed down to the south end of the city. It was clean. No complaints!
