Ticket for threesome plus potatoes and coffee
Harvey G.

Walked in around lunch time. Sat at the bar. Bar area was clean, maybe a little noisy, but that's ok with me. No wait for a coffee and water order. Briefly looked at the menu, Ordered the threesome. Bacon and pancakes. Came out quickly. Thick cut bacon, eggs were delicious. Pancakes were good, but small, syrup tasted great. Overall good experience.

Holy crab benny

Finally got the chance to visit the @oeb_breakfast at 330 Main St. with the bf. We got there early in the morning so we were fortunate to catch a seat by window and it was also right next to the kitchen, where all the action happens. It was probably the best seat in the restaurant. They had an extensive breakfast/brunch menu, ranging from your classic breakfasts to unique poutines, bennies, crepes, and omelettes. The bf went with the Canadian lobster & shrimp crepe and I had the holy crab benny. The crepe was surprisingly huge, and could probably be shared between two people. It was filled with butter poached lobster and shrimp scramble, green onions, and was topped with brown butter hollandaise and truffle pearls. The holy crab Benny was served on a buttery croissant, topped with wild blue crab, fresh dill, dijonaise, soft poached egg, and topped with brown butter hollandaise, and served with a side of herb potatoes fried in beef tallow. Would highly recommend trying out both dishes! Our server was also excellent and attentive to our needs.

Pretty good. I've been multiple times but this last time I got an avocado beagle and it wasn't what I was hoping for but the past 2 dishes I got were good! What my boyfriend got was AMAZING tho!

This place was super full on Friday afternoon and they still made a place for me and the food was made very quickly. The waitress I had was fantastic! She was knowledgeable and refilled my water a lot. I asked her what she recommends for someone that loves avocados. She said that The Florentine Benny has a full avocado split in half. Inside the halves is the poached egg. It sounded marvelous and so I ordered it. I felt like the best way to tackle this meal was to use my hands. It was a bit messy but I loved slurping the egg yolk in my mouth lol. The mashed tomatoes beneath the avocados and on top of the bread was absolutely appetizing! Very sweet and tasty. I will definitely come back to try more dishes.

I tried this place twice. I honestly believed none of the employees or cooks have tried the food on their menu. It is simply not good.

Very charming and did everything to make our evening very special. He gave good recommendations and was very attentive without being intrusive. For dessert I had their Key Lime pie which was melt in your mouth scrumptious. If you want a memorable and wonderful dinner, I highly recommend The Gates.

We came for an early dinner on a Wednesday so it was very quiet in the restaurant. I started with scallops which were cooked perfectly and had a very tasty aioli. For our entree's I had the beef tenderloin, my wife had pork tenderloin and my mother in law had a chicken linguini. My beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and was awesomely seasoned. The accompanying vegetables were great and I had an order of asparagus with bernaise. The bernaise was thicker than I expected but still had good flavour. My wife's pork was filled with apples and other things and wrapped in prosciutto. She said it was the best one of the best pork dishes she had. Lastly my mother in law really enjoyed her pasta We would all come back to The Gates for a special occasion in the future.

There is generally a long wait if you don't come here within the first hour of opening, so do take care in getting here early if you want to minimize wait times. We ended up waiting 40 minutes-ish, which was fine with me. We did finally get seated, and since we spent the whole morning looking at the menu. We ordered the fried potatoes together. He got the fried chicken on toast for his main, and I got the lamb breakfast sandwich. I thought the food was only ok. The fried potatoes were decent. The cook on the potato was not really what I expected, as I thought the potatoes would be crispier. The sauce really saves this dish. I had a bite of the fried chicken on toast and it was pretty good. The chicken was well cooked and nicely seasoned. I also thought my lamb burger was just ok. The meat was pretty good but I wasn't a fan of the bun as it was a little dry. We did also order drinks. My boyfriend ordered matcha. He said it was ok and wished it was a little stronger. I had a caramel latte and thought it was good. Overall, this is a decent place to get brunch. I think if I were to come back, I would maybe try different menu items. The prices were good and the overall ambience is great.

It's clear that the current owner has tried to update the place to look more like a Motel 6 than what this beautiful building should be. Cheap renovations and tacky Target bargain furniture and light fixtures have stripped this place of its charm and history. All of the beautiful wood in the unit is painted white now and the hallways are a horrible and depressing dark grey. The furniture is cheap and over sized for the rooms. Room 619 had a bed so tall we had to ask to switch rooms. The front desk suggested they bring us a step ladder instead. Seriously?! We finally switched to 808 which had two regular sized beds that were a normal height and we didn't have to be watched as we went to the bathroom. Not sure why washrooms that face other units don't have window coverings! There are absolutely no amenities in the rooms. No fridge. An $8 plastic bottle of water. A Nespresso with coffee only. You have to ask for tea if you want it. Toiletries in the bathroom need revisiting. They're the same ones from 2010 from L'Occitane; tired, dated and horribly scented. More hotels have switched to more sustainable and options but here, you will still get a shoe mitt and shower cap. One bonus was two robes in each room. There is a small gym but no access to a pool. You can pay $12 next door. Apparently yoga is included, but no one told us about that upon check in for our weeklong stay. The wifi didn't work after the first night and staff weren't overly helpful about it. At $252 a night, this is not what we were expecting. Had we known how downhill this place has gone, we'd have opted for the Holiday Inn. Parking is $22 a night and the front entrance is permanently occupied by crowds of smokers. It's absolutely disgusting. This place is for sale so we really hope that the new buyer will help bring this beauty back from the depths of sadness.
