This place is awesome for brunch!!! They have indoor and outdoor seating which is great. The decor inside is warm and I almost felt like I was at home. The food was amazing. If you get the pancakes you will be full with eating half of one. So I recommend sharing this. I also ordered the Honduras Beleadas which I think is a must try. Service was quick and friendly. Craving this spot now!

Great food and service, make sure to join the wait list on the website. Our wait was slightly longer due to weather, but it was well worth it. The menu has some new items vs what you see online. The shaved steak sandwich was rich and cheesy, the sticky turkey sandwich was sweet and savory. The carrot & farro (grain) salad was full of flavor and larger than expected, although I would have liked more carrot than farro as it was the headliner of the dish title. Our server Emma was friendly, attentive and gave a wonderful suggestion for our entree.

Always have excellent service here! I'm in walking distance and one of my favourite breakfast/lunch places in the city. Their eggs Benedict is to die for and the steak sandwich will have you dancing in your chair haha-so good. If you're into unique drinks they have a couple that are worth a try. The iced Raspberry matcha latte is my top choice. Very aesthetic and calm dining room which was refreshing. The food makes you feel good after and the ingredients taste fresh because they are! So many local ingredients that I appreciate. Will die raving about this place

I found the portions to be too small, but a nice cute local Winnipeg restaurant with kind hardworking employees.

Favourite breakfast in the city. Always recommend the eggs Benedict and lemon poppy seed pancakes!

Lovely, attentive service; not terribly long of a wait for a table during Sunday brunch; contemporary atmosphere and decor; everything tasted great and rich with complementary flavours. Not pictured: Saskatoon Berry Butter Tart with Cardamom yogurt and pistachios and Rotating Wolseley Kombucha. They have a good selection of locally owned and produced alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Lovely new brunch place in old St.Vital that's open 7 days a week till 3 pm. It's located minutes from downtown and right next to the Limelight karaoke place. They have beautiful decor inside that reminds of the store Anthropologie. They have a decent sized patio that is full of umbrellas (fantastic) and adorned with flowers and plants behind the bench seating. The patio is enclosed so you don't feel like you're right beside the busy St. Mary's road traffic. Service is very friendly and welcoming. Crowd is similar to the Clementine/former Segovia/Sous Sol demographics. Menu has some traditional brunch items from local sources like the eggs Benedict and eggs/bacon or sausage to more international inspirations from Asian, Indian and Latin. All mains are a la carte so you will need to get some sides. The eggs Benedict were a hit. The Honduran Balaedas - Flour Tortilla with Refried Beans, Grilled Flank Steak, Scrambled Eggs, Cotija Cheese, Avocado and Lime Crema ($14) is a filling dish that but I would have liked a tad more flavour. The side of Fried Baby Potatoes - Chermoula, Aioli, Pickled Onions ($6) were the best. Super crispy and flavourful. The side of House Ground Fennel and Sage Breakfast Sausage with Thyme Honey Mustard and Chives ($6) were full of flavour without feeling overly heavy. The house made ice tea and lemonades were delicious. Mocha was very good. Also a good list of cocktails but I didn't try any on my visit. No reservations. Overall nice locally owned place. The portions are on the smaller side so it is a pricier brunch compared to other places.

This potato side dish is a must have every visit.

Very charming and did everything to make our evening very special. He gave good recommendations and was very attentive without being intrusive. I had the prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted red peppers (I specifically asked for those) and my dinner was 5 stars. For dessert I had their Key Lime pie which was melt in your mouth scrumptious. If you want a memorable and wonderful dinner, I highly recommend The Gates.

We came for an early dinner on a Wednesday so it was very quiet in the restaurant. I started with scallops which were cooked perfectly and had a very tasty aioli. For our entree's I had the beef tenderloin, my wife had pork tenderloin and my mother in law had a chicken linguini. My beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and was awesomely seasoned. The accompanying vegetables were great and I had an order of asparagus with bernaise. The bernaise was thicker than I expected but still had good flavour. My wife's pork was filled with apples and other things and wrapped in prosciutto. She said it was the best one of the best pork dishes she had. Lastly my mother in law really enjoyed her pasta We would all come back to The Gates for a special occasion in the future.

It's clear that the current owner has tried to update the place to look more like a Motel 6 than what this beautiful building should be. Cheap renovations and tacky Target bargain furniture and light fixtures have stripped this place of its charm and history. All of the beautiful wood in the unit is painted white now and the hallways are a horrible and depressing dark grey. The furniture is cheap and over sized for the rooms. Room 619 had a bed so tall we had to ask to switch rooms. The front desk suggested they bring us a step ladder instead. Seriously?! We finally switched to 808 which had two regular sized beds that were a normal height and we didn't have to be watched as we went to the bathroom. Not sure why washrooms that face other units don't have window coverings! There are absolutely no amenities in the rooms. No fridge. An $8 plastic bottle of water. A Nespresso with coffee only. You have to ask for tea if you want it. Toiletries in the bathroom need revisiting. They're the same ones from 2010 from L'Occitane; tired, dated and horribly scented. More hotels have switched to more sustainable and options but here, you will still get a shoe mitt and shower cap. One bonus was two robes in each room. There is a small gym but no access to a pool. You can pay $12 next door. Apparently yoga is included, but no one told us about that upon check in for our weeklong stay. The wifi didn't work after the first night and staff weren't overly helpful about it. At $252 a night, this is not what we were expecting. Had we known how downhill this place has gone, we'd have opted for the Holiday Inn. Parking is $22 a night and the front entrance is permanently occupied by crowds of smokers. It's absolutely disgusting. This place is for sale so we really hope that the new buyer will help bring this beauty back from the depths of sadness.
