    The French Toasts
    Jennyfer A.

I have eaten here twice. The veggie burger was decent but it didn't wow me. The French Toast with maple syrup and bananas and blueberries was pretty delicious. It was worth the money. The lemonades in the summer are also super tasty in the summer. The waitresses seemed a bit stressed but I did sit myself at the restaurant looking kind of grungy. Other than this it was a decent dining experience with a diverse crowd of people around me of all types.

remains one of my favourite breakfast places in Winnipeg. menu can be considered somewhat basic, but service is wonderful. earlier you go, the better. always love it when they play their jazz, relaxing vibes when not many are around. otherwise can get quite noisy.

Always amazing food and great service. Highly suggest the smoked salmon breakfast! I always get the vanilla cold brew as well!

A great place for breakfast/ brunch!! It's quite busy, you may have to wait in queue to get service, but the staffs are great and very prompt with their service. I had veggie omelette with mushrooms and spinach. Fresh and good!! They have one of the best Earl Grey Tea I have had... Really aromatic and rich in taste.

Stella's Cafe at Plug In 09/27/18

With nine locations in Manitoba ranging from the suburbs to YWG Airport it seemed pertinent to stop by Stella's at some point while in Winnipeg, the space attached to Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art proving most convenient after a stop at Jonnie's Sticky Buns just West on Portage Avenue. Originally opened in 1999 at 166 Osborne Street, two original investors selling their shares prior to mass expansion, it was after securing paid parking on a nearby street that doors to the Institute were opened, a rush of young adults carrying sketchbooks and poster tubes making their way to class while Stella's Café was also quite busy to the left. Offering an up-front Pastry case and dining room beyond, a brief wait at the hostess stand followed by seating at a cozy two-top flanked on both sides by students, it was after briefly perusing options that two selections were made, the first a classic Canadian Butter Tart that tasted good but seemed to have been previously frozen based on both temperature and texture of its sugary center. Taking a lengthy wait as an opportunity to indulge in still-warm Buns from Jonnie's, all three magnificent, it was perhaps twenty minutes before French Toast was delivered as three thin slices topped in runny Syrup, the Bread itself no better than store-purchased while Pure Maple Syrup would have been preferred to the "Caramel Sauce," though at least the tiny Wild Blueberries bursting with flavor were enjoyable.

Food was fresh and absolutely amazing. Had the jambalaya with House Shiraz. Perfect dinner. Jambalaya had chicken pork and shrimp. Made with fresh tomatoes and peppers and fresh baked focaccia bread. My girlfriend had the pad Thai. Service was friendly and quick. Very impressed. A bit pricey

    Veggie cafe breakfast

Looking for some healthy and wholesome brunch on Yelp and was led to Stella's and so happy that it did. I went with the veggie cafe breakfast. A solid choice if you ask me. First of all, that strawberry jam is the truth. I don't usually eat my buttered toast, but with that smothered, sweet deliciousness, how could I not eat all the bread? And do I mean all the bread, damn you carbs!! The poached eggs were regular and the breakfast potatoes weren't fried, so that's good. The breakfast patties? Delightful, fluffy vegetarian patties made of chickpeas, carrots, zucchini, spices and so much more that were oh so good. Clean eating at its finest. Vegan and vegetarian friendly, a wide array of smoothies, great service and enjoying this Winnipeg summer on the bright and cheery patio makes Stella's a no-brainer. Love.Love.Love. When I return to the 'Peg, you can bet I'll be here eating some healthy brunch eats.

    Vegan Mexican

Being on a plant based diet and trying eat a hearty breakfast at 7 am can be difficult sometimes as not a lot of places offer vegan breakfasts and those that do, don't open until at least 8 or 9 am (the struggle is real). When I saw on Yelp that this place had vegan breakfast option and was only a 5 minute walk from my hotel, I was like "SCORE!!!". Anyways, I ordered the Vegan Mexican, which if I remember correctly was some vegetarian patties (shaped like big falafels), spinach, refried beans, guacamole, salsa and mushrooms topped on two soft corn tortillas with a big side of grilled hasbrowns accompanied by hot sauce. It was absolutely delicious. I believe the price was $11. Service was very good as I was seated right away, was asked how my food was and order was taken quite quickly without being rushed. I believe I got my meal in less than 10 minutes, so quite efficient. Verdict: Amazing breakfast place near the university and in the heart of downtown.

Really great find in Winnipeg. Tons of vegan and gluten free options plus breakfast all day! Loved the hash browns and oatmeal.

veggie baked eggs with roasted potatoes, multigrain toast and jam

I was a faithful Sunday brunch follower of the Stella's Osborne for so many years. Every week, I'd be there for my favourite baked eggs and even stop by for lunch during the week. The quality slid a little and I had enough of the long waits for brunch as this place exploded in popularity so I moved on. That being said, I am happy that this local business has expanded and done so well as you can dine at Stellas in so many locations including an upcoming airport location. Can I say how much I love the Buhler Centre at 460 Portage? It's a wonderful example of local philanthropy and great design that is helping to further revitalize our downtown and educate students. The Stella's Plug In location is a great fit here - bright, contemporary with touches of art that welcomes a diverse crowd. It's a tight space that's a little awkward due to the design of the building - sort of triangular. The menu is the same as it is at all locations with the all day breakfasts, sandwiches/salads and fuller entree meals. Due to its proximity to the U of W and offices, they have lunch wraps to go for $5.95 as well. Arrived here just after the usual Sunday brunch rush but the place was still buzzing with diners though the line had died down by around 1:30 pm. Service was friendly and food was delivered pretty fast for a Sunday. This place is more like Stella's Grant as you sit down to order as opposed to ordering and paying first method at Osborne. I would opt to sit near the bright windows with the southern exposure if possible next time as the seating near the entrance has a chilly draft from the door and a loud and chilly vent above. The homemade ice tea ($2.95) is the real deal and tastes delicious as its sweetened already. The veggie baked eggs ($8.95) are my fave though I just prefer spinach and cheese. Their menu version includes two eggs, spinach, mushrooms, & tomatoes baked with cheddar cheese and topped with salsa. It's also served with roasted potatoes, toast (go with their multigrain) and their famous Stella jam. It all tasted the way I remembered, solid breakfast made with fresh ingredients, delicious bread and perfectly sweetened jam. I really like the ambiance here so I will definitely be a Stella follower again. Parking is decent if you can snag some of the free weekend & evening parking on the street behind the WAG or on Portage Ave. There's also paid parking available directly behind the Buhler Centre but the spots are super tight.

K+B is one of the places I often order take out from during COVID, and this past week I was able to dine in here for the first time. The River City Brisket has always been my staple order because it's that good. Normally for take-out I have it with potato salad, but last week I tried it with the jalapeno cheddar mac n cheese...which was really delicious! I do like the potato salad as well, and would choose that in warmer weather. It's a toss up between here and Miss Browns on who makes better brisket, but right now I give the edge to K+B. It's quite pricey for a sandwich at $15 ($11 if you don't include a side), but I found it worth it personally.

There's also no refills but they are very good at listening, and the next drink I ordered it with two pieces of ice and lots of tea! Yay! Lol. The sandwich's bacon is super tasty and soft. If you just eat the bacon first it kind of steals the show. So don't eat your bacon first! Eat it with the lettuce and the bread. Together it all is tasty. It just goes well all together.

It was extremely busy when I arrived, and it was consistently busy the entire time I was here. Lots of online orders as well from what I saw. I had the 6-inch brisket hat trick on a whole wheat bread. I considered a footlong as I was quite hungry, however upon seeing some of the portions coming from the kitchen, they were huge...so I opted for a 6-inch instead. It took a while for my order to be served, which I understood as it was extremely busy. The wait was worth it though, as the sub was indeed loaded with toppings, and I found it overall to be really good!
