The service was pretty good. The standard two egg breakfast was interesting with big slabs of potato instead of hash browns. The eggs were a wonderful orange yolk I'm sure they're organic. Located in Assiniboine park, this is a pretty nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. Bright, airy and accommodating. There's a huge parking lot just a very short walk away. We went for lunch and the menu had plenty of options. I went for the Rueben sandwich on rye. Pretty good along with some fries. We also tried the Salmon Benedict which was flavorful and nicely presented. Prices were fairly affordable. Special thanks to Maya, our server who was pretty amazing. Warm, friendly, and attentive. Sweet potato black bean burger- must try soooo good! I had my dog so we sat in the back patio which felt like s tranquil backyard retreat. We also ordered the poutine which was fresh but felt like it could've had more salt. The curry lentil soup was also new for me and it was surprisingly tangy with a little spice at the end. I have dined here quite often and usually the service and the food are very good. I have no idea what happened this past weekend but it wasn't great. I ordered the cafe breakfast. Scrambled eggs with a side of salsa and bacon crisp. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict and asked that her eggs be cooked between runny and medium. The breakfast took a long time to arrive and when it did, it was lukewarm. I suspect it sat under a heat lamp before being brought out. My friend's eggs were cooked hard whereas my eggs looked like someone forgot them on the grill and just chopped them up. Certainly not scrambled. The salsa never appeared but it was on my bill. Our server seemed to 'ghost us' as she only came back when we asked her to come by. Although it was busy, there were a few empty tables yet our server rushed our plates away and immediately brought the bills. read more

Always good when I've been for lunch on a weekday, this past Saturday was very disappointing. I took my husband as he's never been, I had my favourite Pork Belly Benedict and he tried the Rueben Skillet. Normally the Hash Browns are the best I've ever had. But today they were leathery and flavourless. Not appealing or tasty at all. Obviously not freshly fried. a Our waiter offered to bring fresher fried hash browns. I asked if he could bring my husband a replacement Rueben as it was served on top of the hash browns. He said no. The replacement hash browns were just as bad as the first ones. We did not eat them. He returned to 4 plates of uneaten hash browns and asked us how our meals were. We replied disappointing and the replacement hash browns just as bad as the original ones. No concerns voiced, he gave us Assiniboine Park Members 10% off our bill. I then spoke to the manager and he also was not terribly concerned about the quality of our meal. He felt 10% off was a reasonable comp. I sure hope the food quality and customer service returns to what it normally is. read more

Escaped the 'lock down' for one meal and went to the Cafe for 'brunch' with friends. The staff were wonderful all around, friendly and engaging. They have adopted the option of scanning a QR code on the table for the menu which is great (IF you know what to do! :-) ) I had the Eggs Benedict with pork belly. The eggs were cooked to order. A nice rich yolk and the hollandaise was creamy and tasty, although I would have liked a bit more of a lemony kick. The breakfast potatoes were okay. They used to be to die for but now, just okay. Had breakfast at the Park on Thursday Had a full breakfast which included 2 eggs, hashbrowns toast and a choice of meat.Cost was 20$ , coffee is extra.Thought it was a little pricey.Breakfast l would say was just ok.Eggs were not large and hashbrowns and sausage were on the cold side Pre prepared l guess and left on a heating tray.My friend had the French toast which he enjoyed.The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little in the cold , sterile side considering you are in the Park a little surprising.The server was friendly and and competent.W9uld go back but not on the top of my breakfast places. read more

It's a nice place to stop in the morning to get breakfast. One thing I highly recommend is the Eggs Benedict at the Hollandaise is very thick and has a nice colour. But not only that is at a very good price. But what's nice is all the natural lighting inside the restaurant and how the employees are naturally friendly people. read more

Friends from Halifax were in for a visit, so, after viewing the polar bears we stopped at The Park Cafe for a late lunch on Monday of the August long weekend. The building is beautiful with a huge bank of windows flooding the area with natural light. The food was good, particularly the Park Burger. The beer list was a little skimpy and the Barnhammer special was the stout. Not a good choice on a hot day. Service was good on what was obviously a busy day. I felt like we received value for money. I know it's hard for a restaurant of this kind to accept reservations, but that would be an improvement. I would not wait more than 15 minutes for a table. I would recommend this establishment for breakfast or lunch. read more

I love this place for breakfast! I came here right at 0800 one morning and loved watching ducks and geese out in the open with the sun "waking up". It was beautiful while enjoying my breakfast and coffee. I quite enjoyed the food too. Prices were reasonable for the quality I received. I did appreciate that I didn't have to wait long either. I can see a bit of wait when this place is packed but it was quite empty during breakfast. Okay, the secret to this place is the patio in the back and ordering the simplest items on the menu. I really enjoyed the patio as it's a quiet area that is well shaded with big umbrellas and backs onto one of the trails. There's even an outdoor fireplace as well. Definitely come here for a drink (my wine was only $5.50 for a decent pinot grigio) and a simple salad or grilled cheese sandwich. I'd skip the BBQ Chicken Club Wrap $9.99 (just the wrap with no sides) - it was a pretty blah wrap. The burgers don't fare much better. I did enjoy the Caprese Salad though it wasn't a true caprese as this one had spinach in it but it was a good solid salad as long as you're not expecting a caprese. It has tomatoes, spinach and Bocconcini with basil-balsamic vinaigrette and extra virgin olive oil for $9.50. This is a generous serving that can be easily served by two people as a nice starter. Food service was fast and the server was very friendly and nice. Overall great atmosphere if you happen to find yourself at Assiniboine Park. read more

For me the Assiniboine Park is many things to me. It's a place where many chapters of my early formative childhood years were played out! Living nearby we would always be in the park in all seasons. The zoo was free back then and we would visit it lots. The duck pond was one of the first places I learned how to skate and enjoyed seeing the ducks in the summer. The toboggan slides were scary but exhilarating. I won't bore you more but I'm amazed...floored they have a cafe right at the duckpond! Really it's an ingenious idea that I wonder what they didn't do it 30 years ago! Entering the restaurant there are huge glass windows that give you a great view of the duckpond. We looked at the menu but I felt a bit rushed by the server to order. I imagine they don't want people to lounge here all day (like a Starbucks) as like a Dim Sum restaurant understands turnover is important to profit to get as many people in and out as possible. I ended up ordering a Chickpea Eggs Benedict with potatoes. It was okay. Overall I'd give it a 3/5. Serving size was decent and they asked how I wanted my eggs which I said soft. They came out this way also which was good. It had a strong cumin taste which I'm not the hugest fan of in the morning but I ate it anyway. I'd like to come back here as the atmosphere was amazing! Large open space and great scenery of the park and duckpond.Would be a great place to get married especially with the Leo Mol garden steps away for photos. read more

They changed the park breakfast from 4.99 to around 8 bucks which sucks. Then last time I asked for eggs poached soft and they were broken in the dish, which also has water in it so I had egg whites basically and our waitress wasn't in the business of visiting us frequently so I couldn't ask for new ones. I also had the chipotle sausage with my breakfast which seems to be one sausage cut into 3 pieces lengthwise (weird) and also it was DRY AS DRY COULD BE. Do not order this. The flavor was nice and chipotle-y (ha) but the texture was dry and not appealing at all. If you've had tempeh it is kind of like that texture. Anyways, all this leads me to lessen the stars and go less often. read more

My family of 8 had an amazing meal at "The Park Cafe" - even though they were very busy our waitress was attentive to all our needs. The food was serviced hot and tasted great. The only negative would be that they don't accept reservations but we didnt mind the wait and appreciated that we could wander the park as they would send a text message when your table was ready. read more

do not get the eggs benedict. the sauce was made with mustard... who makes a hollandaise sauce with mustard? the english muffin wasn't toasted and extremely soggy, when it came to the table the sauce was cold and congealed and the back bacon was mostly fat. i also had the chicken apple chutney sandwich on sourdough bread which was white sliced but they it's sourdough. way overpriced for what you really get. the bill was about 90$ to on top of that. read more

The chef should be congratulated for producing food both burnt and cold. Each of our three entrees suffered the same fate except for my bacon which might have still be oinking. While waiting 40 minutes for this unfortunate climax, there was plenty of time to take in the ambiance. The venue is bizarrely laid out. There is a take-out counter at the back, which requires patrons to trample through the dinners. The kitchen is open to the dinning room resulting in horrendous acoustics. I could barely hear the waitress. Not a place to go if you want to talk to anyone. The tables by the window were setup over the air vent. In addition to being cold, dusty air was blowing over us and and our food when it finally arrived. The decor is bland at best. Highlighted by the potted tree slowly dying in the corner. For some puzzling reason they had purchased these white traffic light shaped lights that garishly clashed with the wood paneling. It would be impossible to change the light bulbs without erecting scaffolding. Since several of the lights were burnt out, I guess scaffolding is not a practical option. Finally, the place was dirty. Stains on the chairs. water marks on the silverware, and old coffee marks on the carafe left on the table. I feel badly for the waitresses who struggled with the door handle every time they needed to enter the kitchen.
