The blueberry muffin was dry but the chocolate chip was moist and perfect. The main thing that will bring me back is sandwiches that we didn't even order. They kept coming out of the kitchen and looked absolutely amazing! The room is nice and cozy and a great place to read or catch up with a friend.

I tried their Blueberry matcha drink and it was delicious. I could taste the original classic green matcha flavour with an added more modern take, which was the addition of the blueberries to it. Subtle blueberry but it still made this smoothie-ish drink more unique and yummy. The vanilla pistachio cupcake was pretty tasty too. It was also well blended and an uncommon flavor which was absolutely pleasant. This little cafe is very cute. Not a lot of room for a big group to gather but it's a nice hangout for a couple of friends.

Three or four tables have power receptacles, and the staff is friendly. Everything about this place says that it should be a 5-star, daily visit, favorite. Except it's not. Don't get me wrong. I find myself going there more and more. It is just somehow less relaxing than a starbucks. On fire. I can't pick just what it is. The inconsistent décor, the stripmall flooring, or utilitarian seating arrangement. It just lacks character. It's a fine enough place. And I really would suggest it to anybody. I really do like it. I just can't love it.

Instead, it was matcha latte with syrup at the bottom, which I believe was lavender syrup. It's also topped with their coffee cloud cold foam. Regardless, it was darn good! After doing a bit of research on Google, turns out that the combination of matcha latte and lavender is supposed to resemble the taste of milk that's leftover from a bowl of fruit loops. If you're not feeling like coffee, tea or a latte, they have other drinks available including beer and wine. I thought I was coming into a coffee shop, but they actually had a lot more to offer, including pizza on their menu.

The service was alright, we ordered sandwiches and then she told us the total although we still wanted drinks. I had the pesto and roasted red pepper panini, the bread was really wonderful and overall it was very good. Afterwards we had gelato, I had matcha and it was really nice, along with an iced latte. The coffee itself was really nice, not overly bitter, and the latte was sweetened the right amount. Only qualm was the lemon gelato had a metallic taste, which is common when acid reacts with aluminum. We all tried it and decided it was inedible so I brought back to the counter and just let her know that we could not eat it as it had a metallic taste. She tried it (out of the same bowl we all had been tasting it from) and basically said, no that's just how it is. Considering we had spent $50 at the cafe, it would have been easy to get a replacement gelato, without arguing with the customer. I think she knew we were irritated and came to our table to ask if we were okay. I appreciate that you approached us afterwards but a little goes a long way in the beginning. I will be back and will review again, hopefully service is a bit more forgiving.

Sam's has been around for over twenty years. I had never heard about it, likely because I didn't frequent too many eateries on Ness Avenue when I lived in Winnipeg. I had to visit. It was easy to find Sam's. The huge sign helped. It's across the street from a 7-Eleven. This eatery has a drive-thru. I normally like hitting one, but decided to dine in. I backed my car into a parking spot and walked it, passing by a couple of bikers who were about to leave. I was greeted by the nicest man. He said that I could sit anywhere and he'd come over. I sat in a cozy corner. I got a menu. I was happy looking at everything. I got the following items: - Red berry hibiscus lemonade - Chicken schnitzel in hunter-style sauce with spaetzle The hunter-style sauce consisted of mushrooms, onions, and light garlic that are sautéed in a pan with clarified butter and gravy. It sounded perfect. My red berry hibiscus lemonade came out first. It was refreshing and yummy. I don't like lemonade with a ton of sugar. This one was perfect. It had a hint of sweetness. I love hibiscus and lemon together. It was a generous size, too. My chicken schnitzel plate came out next. The schnitzel was delicious. The chicken was juicy with a thin, crispy coating around it. The hunter-style sauce was delicious. I love anything with garlic, mushrooms, and onions. This sauce was divine. I haven't had spaetzle in a while. I was fortunate to have some when I was in Frankfurt nearly a decade ago. This spaetzle reminded me of what I had in Frankfurt. It was yummy and authentic. This place had German chocolate cake, which I love. However, I was too stuffed to get some. Next time! I paid at the counter. I used my credit card and tipped. It was a smooth transaction. I needed to use the washroom. I had to ask the man to unlock the door. It's a single stall for the women's. It was clean. No complaints. This place is a gem. It offers authentic German good eats. I'd return again when I'm back in the city. (333)

Recently, Winnipeg is definitely going through it's slew of independent coffee houses. So lucky for…read moreall of us who enjoy coffee and want an alternative to Starbucks and a desire to support local independent businesses. Parlour Coffee on Main Street was pretty much the first onto the scene last year with it's gourmet coffee and ultra minimalistic interior design. MAKE / Coffee + Stuff opened in Dec '12, is a very modern, sleek and minimalistic coffeehouse that looks more like a modern art space than coffee hangout. But that's probably because the owner is an environmental design instructor at U of M's faculty of architecture. The place is a bit hidden unless you are looking for it as it's in the same strip as Kristina's on Corydon. This place is situated within a few steps of Starbucks and Second Cup on Corydon. The space is completely white, with design books lined along the left side, several wood crate like coffee tables, a few minimalistic chairs, hanging industrial lights in a space that's both raw yet designed. The espresso counter in the back of the space has a small and focused menu: espresso, latte, cappucino, mocha, americano, slow drip and san pellegrino. Espressos are $2.50, lattes are $4 and mochas are $4.50 and are served in one size. I would hazard to guess that the mocha I had was maybe 250 ml or a short in Starbucks world. I like smaller sized coffees but for those who love grandes and such, it might seem like you're not getting as much drink. It wasn't my favourite mocha but the did use freshly grated callebaut chocolate. The espresso grind felt a bit dark and was not as smooth as I prefer. But coffee is such a subjective drink so I'd go back and try a slow drip to give this place another try. Nonethless, the best part of this space is the concept behind the coffee house - which is to support the local design community. It's meant to be a hub for not only the local design culture but for others to engage with the art by being a retail and exhibition venue. Apparently, designers work the espresso bar at MAKE.
