Horrible and rude staff. We got there and put our stuff down and was told to leave if we were not planning on buying anything when I had already bought a latte. He told us that we occupied a whole table and if we didn't plan on buying anything, he might as well close down the store. Not the experience we were expecting on our first time going. Recently, Winnipeg is definitely going through it's slew of independent coffee houses. So lucky for all of us who enjoy coffee and want an alternative to Starbucks and a desire to support local independent businesses. Parlour Coffee on Main Street was pretty much the first onto the scene last year with it's gourmet coffee and ultra minimalistic interior design. MAKE / Coffee + Stuff opened in Dec '12, is a very modern, sleek and minimalistic coffeehouse that looks more like a modern art space than coffee hangout. But that's probably because the owner is an environmental design instructor at U of M's faculty of architecture. The place is a bit hidden unless you are looking for it as it's in the same strip as Kristina's on Corydon. This place is situated within a few steps of Starbucks and Second Cup on Corydon. The space is completely white, with design books lined along the left side, several wood crate like coffee tables, a few minimalistic chairs, hanging industrial lights in a space that's both raw yet designed. The espresso counter in the back of the space has a small and focused menu: espresso, latte, cappucino, mocha, americano, slow drip and san pellegrino. Espressos are $2.50, lattes are $4 and mochas are $4.50 and are served in one size. I would hazard to guess that the mocha I had was maybe 250 ml or a short in Starbucks world. I like smaller sized coffees but for those who love grandes and such, it might seem like you're not getting as much drink. It wasn't my favourite mocha but the did use freshly grated callebaut chocolate. The espresso grind felt a bit dark and was not as smooth as I prefer. But coffee is such a subjective drink so I'd go back and try a slow drip to give this place another try. Nonethless, the best part of this space is the concept behind the coffee house - which is to support the local design community. It's meant to be a hub for not only the local design culture but for others to engage with the art by being a retail and exhibition venue. I was back in Winnipeg visiting family and took another trip to Make+stuff. The latte I had with soy milk was delicious. The use the pacific brand barista of milk so it ends up a creamier smoother texture compared to other grocery store soy milk brands. Totally worth the stop on Corydon for a good latte! read more

What a RUDE owner. I was coming here almost every week and was all the time bringing friends with me. We were always studying here, as most of the people do here. But today I got shocked and will NEVER come here again to this place. My friend ordered a drink for herself and I did not order for 20 min (but was planning to order later) and the owner came to me and in a really RUDE, IMPOLITE and OFFENSIVE way started telling me to get out of the place if I am not planning to order anything. I told him that I will order, but he was repeating it over and over again, making me feel really bad in front of all the clients. If you want to sustain your business, you should treat your regulars and all the other people normally. NEVER gonna come back here again and will tell all my friends about the OFFENSIVE OWNER!!!!! read more

I've made my way to MAKE a few times now and every time I've enjoyed my time. It's the BEST spot to study near my school. It's a very laid back calm and quiet place where you can focus, get great drinks, or talk with friends. I strongly recommend this spot to all of my friends.If you ever need to study for an exam or get some work done do it here! read more

I'm only giving this place 2 stars for a couple of reasons. There is only one person working at a time and they make everything on demand so when 3 people order drinks it takes like 20 minutes to get your coffees - and the temperature was off. The staff was friendly and nice : this isn't their issue. The cafe was a little run down looking. Broken lights laying off the side; a ladder at the end of the hall, mix and match chairs and no music. It has a certain charm to it but it's not the place I remember it to be when it opened. This place could be great: 1 clean up and de-clutter 2 music please 3 find a way to produce product quicker The walls could use a fresh coat of paint too. read more

Make has one the finest and artsiest interiors in the city, and some excellent coffee to boot. Their store is very minimalist - so don't expect to find a grab and go coffee here. They serve espresso and pourovers, but they serve them right. Too quality coffee for any coffee lover. And the seating area is more like an art gallery than a coffee shop. I sat and visited with a friend for nearly an hour. The shop was never too busy, but a great place to work or hang out. I would definitely return. read more

First time in Canada and found this amazing gem. Superb coffee and a really cool atmosphere. So good we had to come back before we left! The espresso is sweet and smooth with a very pleasant aftertaste. If coffee isn't your thing their hibiscus or matcha teas are phenomenal. The owners are really friendly as well. Very decent little coffee bar with a design-oriented gallery/sitting space out front. A little concept-heavy, but the coffee is on par with the other (also concept-heavy, design-oriented) cafes in the city. Serving Fernwood and one other rotating selection. A significant advantage over the others is probably their tea service. Had a pretty special sencha there recently. They're also much quieter than Parlour or Thom Bargen. read more

Friendly atmosphere and great service, brought our order wright to the table with too-ups! Just had coffee and some treats (very yummy) and chilled at a table while chatting and doing a little work on their WiFi. I would go back again! read more
