Yellow cup of water and Breakfast sandwich and Ice Tea lemonade slushy
    Jennyfer A.

This restaurant that reminds me of a bistro with desserts and sandwiches and drinks like ice teas and coffee etc is unpretentious and has an ample seating area. The customer service is excellent and the Chai Latte was delicious the way it should be! The Breakfast sandwich had a savoury fresh tomato and yummy melted cheese and the lemonade slush ice tea was not bad. The ice tea part had a bit of a sour after taste but the lemonade sugars neutralized it. The smell of this cafe changes a lot. Sometimes it's very warm while sometimes it smells differently. Overall the people are pretty laid back and I enjoy the atmosphere of it all.

Bran muffin and large soy latte.

Very cute space, with a cozy vibe that's hard to find in Winnipeg coffee shops. The menu was huge, and the muffin I had was delicious. The only downside was what other folks have noted - my latte was terrible. I wound up tossing it. Still, holding out hope that this was a one off, since this would be a great place to work for a few hours! I didn't try the Wi-Fi, mostly because there was a bit of a line and I didn't want to interrupt the staff to ask for the password. Went early on a Friday and it wasn't too busy, but I can see how the wait could get long, as there was only one person working. Like most of Portage, no dedicated parking, but I've never had a problem finding a spot in the neighborhood. I could see my car from the window.

Neat and tidy design. Finally a coffee bar not trying to be Starbucks

Name and owners have changed. Now Joe Black Coffee Bar. Good menu, coffee tastes fairly generic. Lots of the usual coffee bar fare with some twists like the "Nutella and Banana Panini". Prices are very fair, parking is limited, such a nice place, hopefully the owners don't rely on just Portage Ave frontage to get clients through the door. Lots of potential, give it a try! Free WI FI, fire place, ATM, couches and comfortable seating. Thursday morning storytime at 10am with free hot chocolate and cookies! Their website is available at http://www.joeblackcoffee.ca/

Definitely the best hot chocolate around. All of the food is delicious and fresh, tastes home made. However, they were very busy, and there weren't many staff, so it took a while for us to receive our food.

PHENOMENAL Drinks!!!! We had Milky Way, Hazelnut Cafe Latte, and some Cream Horn's! It was so delicious!

Krispy Kreme is finally in Winnipeg! It opened in June of this year. I don't like grand openings,…read moreso coming here a few weeks later is helpful. This location is at Outlet Collection Winnipeg. It's across from the Liquor Mart. Across the street is IKEA. It's the only Krispy Kreme in the prairies, between Delta, BC and Mississauga, ON. You can get your outlet therapy done first, and then down donuts after you're done. You can also do what I did and just drop by to check out the donuts. I decided to go through the drive-thru. There were many staffers outside guiding everyone. A male staffer asked me whether I was doing the walk-in or drive-thru approach. I said the latter. The former was roughly a 20-minute wait. The latter was double the time. It was 30°C. It was hot and humid. I also knew that rain was coming. I preferred being in an air-conditioned rental vehicle. I also don't have an umbrella. The wait wasn't bad. During the pandemic, I waited three hours for donuts at the Krispy Kreme drive-thru by my workplace in Mississauga. A 40-minute wait was nothing in comparison. It's also Winnipeg, with a smaller population than the greater Toronto area. Sure enough, while waiting in line, I saw dust blowing about. Dark clouds were now over us. The rain came pouring down. Naturally, it was my turn to order. It felt like I was ordering in a mini monsoon. The man over the speaker said to please wait. That's never good when rain is coming at you sideways and you have to crack your window open to speak. I ordered the following items: - A large iced vanilla coffee - Six donuts At the Mississauga location, when I say assorted, it means that staff choose the donuts on my behalf. I said assorted here and the man didn't get it. So, I went with getting three strawberry iced and three glazed raspberry-filled donuts. For the former, he thought that I had said chocolate. More time wasted. I let him know that I was half wet from the rain. I wish that I were kidding. I'm not. I really needed a towel. I got a nice woman at the window. I had to tap twice to pay. The machine did not recognize a drenched credit card. I had to dry it off with a napkin before it worked. I got my donuts and iced coffee. I thanked her and parked in front of the liquor store. I had a couple of donuts and waited for the downpour to stop a bit. The donuts were so fresh and yummy. My favourite is the raspberry-glazed donut. It's the yummy raspberry jelly filling with the glazed donut that makes this donut so special. I also love the strawberry iced donut. So fresh and delicious. Simply scrumptious. If I were here for another week, I'd get a dozen or more. I'm sort of glad that I'm not. I'd probably need a new wardrobe after inhaling a bunch of delicious donuts. The iced vanilla coffee was cold and hit the spot. There was little sugar in it, which was perfect for my needs. The vanilla wasn't as strong as I'd like the flavouring to be. It does have milk. If you are lactose-intolerant, you may want to order it without the dairy. I had a good experience, minus the downpour that accompanied me at the drive-thru. I'd love to return when there's no precipitation and get a dozen donuts next time. (256)

Recently, Winnipeg is definitely going through it's slew of independent coffee houses. So lucky for…read moreall of us who enjoy coffee and want an alternative to Starbucks and a desire to support local independent businesses. Parlour Coffee on Main Street was pretty much the first onto the scene last year with it's gourmet coffee and ultra minimalistic interior design. MAKE / Coffee + Stuff opened in Dec '12, is a very modern, sleek and minimalistic coffeehouse that looks more like a modern art space than coffee hangout. But that's probably because the owner is an environmental design instructor at U of M's faculty of architecture. The place is a bit hidden unless you are looking for it as it's in the same strip as Kristina's on Corydon. This place is situated within a few steps of Starbucks and Second Cup on Corydon. The space is completely white, with design books lined along the left side, several wood crate like coffee tables, a few minimalistic chairs, hanging industrial lights in a space that's both raw yet designed. The espresso counter in the back of the space has a small and focused menu: espresso, latte, cappucino, mocha, americano, slow drip and san pellegrino. Espressos are $2.50, lattes are $4 and mochas are $4.50 and are served in one size. I would hazard to guess that the mocha I had was maybe 250 ml or a short in Starbucks world. I like smaller sized coffees but for those who love grandes and such, it might seem like you're not getting as much drink. It wasn't my favourite mocha but the did use freshly grated callebaut chocolate. The espresso grind felt a bit dark and was not as smooth as I prefer. But coffee is such a subjective drink so I'd go back and try a slow drip to give this place another try. Nonethless, the best part of this space is the concept behind the coffee house - which is to support the local design community. It's meant to be a hub for not only the local design culture but for others to engage with the art by being a retail and exhibition venue. Apparently, designers work the espresso bar at MAKE.
