We came to Winnipeg from Toronto for a family celebration and went to Bernstein's for lunch. I have eaten at delis all over North America. I can honestly say that the Chicken Matza Ball soup at Bernstein's was the best I have ever had anywhere. The Matza balls were so light and fluffy and had the perfect taste. My wife had the Greek Salad and loved it. Lunch was a great experience! Thanks also to our server, Potato Latke. read more

Incredible food and service - the quality of ingredients is amazing. We ordered lunch in at the office and were blown away by the attention to detail from the owner, quality of food and overall experience. Will definitely order again! read more

The smoked meat sandwich was the obvious choice, and the first bite made it pretty clear why. The meat had a nice smoky flavor without being overly salty, and the bread held everything together without falling apart halfway through. Service was friendly and efficient, and the deli had that old-school, no-frills atmosphere which suited the food perfectly. read more

Wow! $15.75 for a turkey sandwich. I guess that's okay with the River Heights bourgeoisie. But for that price, maybe getting the take-out order right would be a useful exercise. Asked for white bread with mayo; got home and found rye bread with no mayo. Maybe they sleep standing up at Bernstein's. read more

Not impressed with this place. The service wasn't great and the food wasn't great. Portions were small for the amount they were charging. I will not be returning. read more

Wonderful place to go. Lots of choices , the service is top notch, the food is great and the new alcove they have is a nice spot. No wonder income every Saturday morning Bernstein's is worth while read more

I always enjoy a trip to Bernstein's. The deli and the little shop are very cool, lots of Israeli/Jewish foods and confectioneries. They carry Gunn's products, which are awesome, and their deli tuna salad is the best I've tasted. Prices are on par with a smaller shop, so it is a little more expensive than you might be used to. The soups are fantastic and frozen, so they will keep until dinner time if you buy earlier in the day. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is good, but I found it sad that they seem to be straying from their Jewish roots: the food is not Kosher and not very traditional, which I thought would make them more of an authentic Jewish deli. They are in a small strip mall that also contains a Royal Bank adjacent to it , but most of the stores are niche stores like for esthetics, music therapy, and pottery, so it's not a one stop shop or browsing sort of environment. The washrooms are down the hall and opened with a code, which is a little strange, so be forewarned. read more

3.5/5 Another stop in my little Local Frequency excursion, Bernstein's Deli serves up delicatessen. It does its job in serving quality deli at a reasonable cost. I had the reuben corned beef sandwich, and I found it to be generally tasty. The corned beef was plentiful, and I also liked the sauerkraut in the rye bread (also delicious in itself). You can request to take out the hot mustard if you want; I'm spice intolerant so I requested to not have the mustard. Bernstein's also has a small shop connected to the restaurant where you can purchase the ingredients the place uses to make their delicious foods. Service, however, was very slow. The place was about 3/4 full, but I couldn't get any server's attention in getting a seat until I was about 5 minutes in, and I didn't get my food ordered until another 15 minutes later. I don't frequent deli places, but for what it is I will likely return if I'm craving some corned beef. read more

I have to reach out to someone as I have had my worst experience in a restaurant today. I am 63 so have been to many restaurants and actually have been going to Bersteins once a month with my Step Mom for a a couple of years Got there today at around Noon and the restaurant was occupied so we were asked to wait for for 15 minutes. Not a problem went next door to jewlers. We were called in about that time and seated at a window seat. Well this is were it began going off of the rails. We were ignored for at least 10 to 15 minutes, now at this time there were 4 other tables in use and people walked in and went and gave their take out orders. and we were still not acknowledged. I decided after another ten minutes to go up and talk to the young man and all he said is I am busy and I am the only server. Now there was another server a young lady so I have no Idea what he was talking about??? He did come by and we ordered our food , a classic ruben and a house Ruben with two order of fries. Now at least half an hour or more goes by and nothing. In the meantime a couple of other customers came in and ordered the same food and received it before us??? So I went up to ask what was going on and he said were busy I really think he has quite an attitude. So finally he sez look your food is almost done Brings out one ruben and a corn beef sandwich and fries. No cutlery no nothing no pickles and no coleslaw.. I go up to talk to someone and she sez oh he must of punched in the wrong code......... Really It was a horrible horrible lunch and I am still so peeved I am going to post this on every web site I can find that deals with food services in winnipeg. Shame on you is all I can say In todays world we fight for customers and you are just blowing them off. I am a retired banker and can tell you if one of my staff did this to my customers I would sit them down and ask them why they want to be in this business. Hugh O'Hare read more

A Deli is a Deli is a Deli. Lots of life, noise and activity. The staff do a great job looking after you and they serve up some tasty eats as well. The Challah bread is always fresh, light and tasty. Be sure to take a loaf home with you. Goes great with the chopped liver. Speaking of the chopped liver, not too strong, almost a sweetness to it and a fine texture. Matzoh ball soup, very good. The clubhouse sandwich is a good portion filled with all the requisite ingredients. Overall a good lunch in a terrific atmosphere. read more

I found this place doing a google search for a Jewish Deli in Winnipeg during my short stay there. Seeing on the web that this place has been around over 25 years, I thought I would give it a shot. Ir may not have been my worst restaurant experience in my lifetime but it was close. From the quality of the food to the cleanliness and service of the place, it was as disappointing a restaurant experience as one could find. Do yourself a favour and pass on this place. You'll thank me for saving you time and money. read more

I've had the Reuben (fantastic!) and the breakfast Shakshuka (also excellent), but my fav is actually over in the deli: beet borscht w extra beef, and carrot cake to go. read more

Great food and prompt service! Had a Bison Reuben burger that was really good. Super attentive waitstaff too. Would definitely eat here again. read more

Bernstein's Deli - Good food at Bernstein's! - Caterers Near Me - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Great food. A wonderful deli to stop in with delicious menu items. I love their potato latkes and breakfasts. A must visit in Winnipeg.

The corned beef sandwich was excellent but the borscht was amazing. Check for the sign on the right as you walk in to see if you need to wait to be seated or to seat yourself. I missed it and we seated ourselves when we shouldn't have. It's crowded but adds to the feel in my option. read more

We were super excited to try Bernstein's as we have been trying to support local during the pandemic. We ordered Greek salad, latkes, and a Reuben with pasta salad through door dash. Unfortunately we were beyond disappointed. The salad dressing had zero flavour and was mostly just lettuce. The latkes were so mushy and again had zero flavour. They were almost inedible and we ended up throwing two away. The pasta salad serving was the size of a small condiment container and the Reuben was very average. I have never left a review before but we were just so disappointed. I am sad to say I wouldn't recommend :( read more

This restaurant/grocery store is by far and away my favourite place in Winnipeg to get breakfast and lunch. Their food is both true to the old Deli Style that I have grown to love, and delicious and tasty in new ways. Whatever the people who gave this restaurant a bad review saw, must have been a bad day because this place is fast paced, welcoming, friendly, and awesome. I love it, and I will be back there within the week. I have written this on multiple review sites because I really do love this place, and people on the internet seem to be giving it a bad rap, which is unfair due to the deliciousness and delightfullness of Bernstein's. read more

This is a superlative eating experience. It doesn't seem at all like a deli. The place is in an unassuming partially enclosed mall. Most of the store space is a grocery store/butcher counter. The restaurant is in front by the floor-to-ceiling windows. The portions are generous and the prices very reasonable by deli standards. The cabbage borscht is so good and so cheap that I always order a second bowl! The place has a huge selection of sandwich choices because they have the butcher counter full of meat. If it's the 'Peg, it's lunch at Bernstein's. read more
