    Reuben Corned Beef Sandwich

3.5/5 Another stop in my little Local Frequency excursion, Bernstein's Deli serves up delicatessen. It does its job in serving quality deli at a reasonable cost. I had the reuben corned beef sandwich, and I found it to be generally tasty. The corned beef was plentiful, and I also liked the sauerkraut in the rye bread (also delicious in itself). You can request to take out the hot mustard if you want; I'm spice intolerant so I requested to not have the mustard. Bernstein's also has a small shop connected to the restaurant where you can purchase the ingredients the place uses to make their delicious foods. Service, however, was very slow. The place was about 3/4 full, but I couldn't get any server's attention in getting a seat until I was about 5 minutes in, and I didn't get my food ordered until another 15 minutes later. I don't frequent deli places, but for what it is I will likely return if I'm craving some corned beef.

Picked up something for lunch as well.

Came to pick up breakfast on a rainy Sunday. Service was fast and friendly. Had the featured schnitzel so delicious.

    Good food at Bernstein's!

Great food. A wonderful deli to stop in with delicious menu items. I love their potato latkes and breakfasts. A must visit in Winnipeg.

For some reason I thought this place would be like a real deli...maybe not to the level of…read moreSchwartz's in Montreal but something close to that. No, this place is more like a home style cafeteria. Like literally, if you opened up your kitchen and made sandwiches to order. The staff are really nice and they are trying so you gotta give them credit for that. You line up and make your order, pay and pick up your order all in one go at the counter. The food ranges from your basic sandwiches like reubens, turkey etc for $6.95. They also serve up veggie lasagna, hot dog, salads, and soups. The sandwiches are pretty blah - my turkey club didn't have any bacon (I am pretty sure they missed that unless they replaced it with ham but I am sure I didn't taste that either). The turkey is like the same Maple Leaf stuff you'd get at Safeway or Sobeys. The best parts of the sandwich is the bread (the multigrain was delicious) and the fresh veggies and real cheddar cheese. There is a good portion of deli meat in the sandwich but it feels pricey at $6.95 to get a small sandwich with nothing else - no pickle or small coleslaw. Chicken fingers were a little under $6 after tax - it was microwaved and you only receive two small chicken fingers and nothing else! Very expensive and disappointing. This tends to use a microwave to heat up most things as I didn't' see an oven. Most things are refrigerated and heated via a microwave as I didn't see an oven. I suggest that if you have to go here, order sandwiches (made to order), salad and the soups which are in a slow cooker.

The price was good for the amount of food we received. I ordered a salami sandwich, while my wife ordered the turkey club. The sandwich was huge and delicious. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The chicken noodle soup was okay, but I tried the cream of tomato soup my wife ordered and it was great. Also came with 2 slicss of pickle which were tasty as well. I will be back to try some other menu items. The food was ready fairly quick and the restaurant was very clean. Worth a try if your in the neighborhood.

It took a while but this place finally opened! I like their concept - fresh, healthy food for…read moreoffice workers. Downtown Winnipeg seems to be lacking in this area so it's a nice change to see this chain open up and provide better healthier options unlike the usual Tim Hortons or Subway. This franchise is situated in the new downtown MB Hydro building on the corner of Carlton and Portage Avenue. Lucky workers to have that in their building. This place is exactly what it calls itself to be - a deli and market. There's a sandwich station with sandwiches starting at $4.99 along with some pre-made ones. There's a made to order pita pizza section where you can create your own pizza. And there's a few soup choices. There's a hot and cold buffet table - priced by weight, $1.49 per 100g. Now, normally I don't like these types of buffet tables because who knows how long things have been sitting there. Plus there's so many people walking about, and some people are not very sanitary when it comes to these types of things. But it looks like there's good turnover on their first day as there was barely any hot food items when I arrived just after 1 pm. I opted to get some cold stuff - I got some marinated mushrooms, some tabouli salad and a Mediterranean mixed green salad type. In a small square styrofoam container (about a small salad sized portion) came to $3.40 after tax. I didn't think it was that expensive, but I guess that can add up when you pick up heavier protein items. The food is delish, it tastes like stuff I make at home and gravitate to on a daily basis - light and healthy. The mushrooms tasted like it was marinated in herbs and lemon - yummy. The tabouli was lightly seasoned and quite good. The mediterranean salad had artichokes in there (one of the reasons why I picked this one) - it had a nice tangy vinaigrette and wasn't not overly dressed. Nothing was overly seasoned or too salty - a plus in my books. It's their first day so maybe that's why they barely had any signages describing the food choices on the buffet tables. Also, it'd be nice to see some pricing on the market foods like the fruit, prepackaged to go meals and cheeses. There's also a coffee section that serves up cappuccino, espressos, cafe mochas, regular coffee and tea. This place has a moderate amount of seating inside as well. Sounds like they'll be open M-F, early in the morning till about 5 or 6 pm.
