There's lots of different breakfast platters available, and they all seem equally good, especially for the value you get. I've had the ranchers breakfast and one of their breakfast specials that included an eggs benedict and pancakes. Both were very good, and my friends who I've been with here have all been satisfied eating here. Always searching for a good Sunday breakfast joint. I have to admit that I wasn't too thrilled to go here especially since it didn't look that inviting as we drove up to the place. But don't judge a book by its cover right? Actually, I had a great breakfast. This place was busy but not packed so we got a seat right away (granted we were arriving well after 1 pm). They serve breakfast all day so that's a plus. I ordered the "Canadian back bacon and eggs" breakfast ($6.99) which includes toast (rye, white or brown) and hash browns or 3 buttermilk pancakes. I asked our server if she preferred the hash browns or the pancakes and she was emphatic that hash browns were the way to go. And boy was she right, I loved the hash browns here - probably one of the best I've had. They were loosely shredded potatoes (with some onion for flavour) and had a fantastic crispy exterior but perfectly cooked interior. It was almost like a latke except it wasn't (if that makes sense). They were perfectly seasoned - I'd go back just for the hash browns alone! The scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon were fine - you can't mess that up too much. Portions are good for the average person and prices are decent. Went again and instead of toast/hashbrowns, I added fruit for an extra $2.49 to my breakfast. It was a large portion of super fresh and delicious fruit! Great price to have nearly half my plate full of bite sized pieces of cantaloupe, honeydew, apples and bananas. The pancakes are fluffy and thick - a nice treat but I think 3 on a plate are too much carbs for me. My two issues with the place are: - OJ is from concentrate and not fresh (not that they claimed that) but I prefer fresh juice - toast was dripping with butter - I don't mind pre-buttered toast but there was way too much for my liking so I'll have to remember to tell them to skip that step. The good thing is that they bring you out an old school rack of PB and various jams in those disposable single serving packages (I haven't seen those in a while). Otherwise, food service was prompt and the servers are super efficient and friendly! The decor is nothing special, things look a little cluttered as there are shelves in the dining room that act as extra storage for inventory. Nonetheless, the place feels warm and inviting. And the food is good but it doesn't taste greasy. read more

I came in at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon with a toddler and my sister for some lunch. There were a few tables ahead of us but we only waited maybe 10 minutes. The restaurant itself is pretty basic diner. Nothing to comment on. We ordered a bowl of soup, kids mini pancakes with sausage and a crispy chicken club with fries. The soup is homemade with big pieces of vegetables, chicken and noddles. Tasty. The kids mini pancakes come with a beverage and there are 6 pancakes the size of Mcdonalds hot cakes and two sausages. They were amazing. I love a fluffy and tasty pancake. I would come back for these alone. The toddler ate them with peanut butter available on the table. No butter or syrup are needed on these babies. The crispy chicken club was really good too. Crispy bacon, cheese, shredded iceberg lettuce, mayo and butter accompanied the House battered chicken strips on perfectly toasted, chewy fluffy rye bread. The butter on the bread really added a great depth to the sandwich which surprised me. The chicken was good but I found it to be an odd shape for the sandwich. It should have been a more uniform piece but it was thick in some places and almost non existent in others. The accompanying fries were hot, fresh and fried to a perfectly crispy golden brown. Spot on. I would say the wait and the wait to get a bill and some items packed up was longer than expected. We were still in and out in one hour including the wait for a table so that's pretty standard. TL/DR: I would come back. Pancakes are great and so was the chicken club. read more

We found this gem on the advice of some locals, strangers who wanted to help when we arrived at our selected venue to find it closed an hour earlier. We searched it out by name on our GPS and needed to broaden our search when the GPS misdirected us. It is located in a small strip-mall, has an unimposing presence, and we would have missed it if we didn't know it was there. Service was prompt and friendly. Helen had their lasagna and I ordered the crispy fried chicken with mushroom gravy. Both entres were very good. I had steamed green beans for a side and believe they were garden fresh. I finished my meal with a small portion of apple crisp. This desert was heavenly. When we arrived at 5:30, the 60 places were no more than a quarter filled, an hour later, customers were waiting for tables to open up. This is a solid 4-star dining experience. read more

This small but cozy restaurant offers up some of the best, fast and reasonably priced meals in Winnipeg. I have been here serval times and most pleased with all the times I've been here except for today, Wednesday, May 4,2022. Today I went with my sister and we both ordered sandwiches for lunch. I asked for some onion on my clubhouse sandwich. I was NOT told that there would be an extra charge for the onion. When I went to pay I asked our server, tall blonde woman, who must have been having a bad day. What the "99" cent charge was for and she said the onion you ordered for your sandwich. I said I wasn't told about an additional cost. She snapped and said well it doesn't come with the sandwich, you have to pay for it do you think we get the onions for free. I was so taken back by her rudeness. I said "no" but most places don't charge you for one or two rings of raw onion on your burger (sandwich). I said you should have told me or it should have been on the menu. She told me that all restaurants charge for extra onions. Well no they don't next time I go back to the Seine River Cafe I will be armed with this knowledge, I am still very offended by the way she treated me. She should not be serving the public with an attitude like hers. I hope the management reads this review. I will be telling people about the way I was treated. I will go back but will ask to be seated where she is not serving. Didn't even come back to ask us how our meal was or if we wanted more coffee for $2.99 a cup. Has a standard "greasy spoon" restaurant this place hits all the right notes. The service, food and price where all good, in addition it was busy with lots of regulars going in and out always a good sign. They were even helpful in altering one of the dishes for someone in my group. I however was looking for something a little less greasy that day and with the choices on the menu it did not quite wow me. The other four people in the party enjoyed their choices and some of them would even be fans of the restaurant. I however think it was OK, and I will likely make it back another day to sample something else. read more

My family and I used to be regulars at the Seine River Cafe-- but after a particularly terrible customer experience we will not be returning. We came on a Friday evening in August for a quick dinner. There was still a handful of empty tables when we arrived around 6pm. Typically the food is made very quickly, even on a Friday evening. The food took close to 45-50 minutes to arrive. We noticed other tables that had come in after we ordered received their food before us. My family and I grew anxious and annoyed at how long our meals were taking, as this is not the quality of customer service we are used to at this establishment. Our waitress assured us that our food was coming out right away, but still after she said this, it took another 20 minutes to receive our meals. My meal came out first, and my family's plates followed 5 minutes after mine. By this time my family was starving, so we scarved down our meals and paid. My father politely asked our waitress about what had happened. She grew very defensive and said she had checked the time she punched in our orders and it was only 25 minutes of wait time. This was incorrect- I had previously checked the time on my phone and knew we ordered much earlier. She then proceeded to blame Skip The Dishes takeout orders, as they get priority over folks eating in the restaurant. Something seemed very off as our usual friendly, kind waitress turned defensive and unapologetic. 45 minutes of waiting, late parties receiving food before us, defensive wait staff all add up to a bad experience. If the truth was our waitress forgot to punch in our orders, my family would be forgiving. However they took no responsibility for their actions that evening. We typically love the atmosphere, food and staff but this totally turned us off. Hope others don't have to experience customer service like this. read more

Our first visit today - they were absolutely slammed but they handled the huge rush gracefully and professionally. I had an old country skillet - potatoes, eggs, country sausage and hollandaise. Hearty enough to be very satisfying but light enough to be a great pre hike meal. My girlfriend had a pancake breakfast - she LOVED them. A+ experience, we're new regulars. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for 3 years. I've always had great service and the food is home made and exceptional. Prior to this weekend's visit, I would have rated this place a 4 or 4.5. To be BLUNT. the service was horrible. i was seated at 10:05 am, it was probably at 50% capacity. There was one waitress who was handling most of the tables and another who was taking care of a few. the owner was present and the "hostess/cashier girl" was playing coffee refill girl. was able to flag one of the waitresses down at 10:35 to put in an order. when the refill girl came by around 1055, we asked her if they were short cooks, and her only response was, "it seems that way", and left, giving me the evil eye every so often. Truly Horrible service. i will not be going back any time soon, i would rather drive 20 km across the city, to Headingley to Nick's Inn to get a comparable meal and wayyyy better service. read more

Was a great little spot for breakfast. I'm from Seattle and our family typically goes out for breakfast on Saturday & Sunday. This was as good as our normal breakfast. I had the "Old Country Skillet" and it was a great substitute for my normal Biscuits & Gravy. Very good service. read more
