This shop is small, and some of the desserts are tasty and inviting but their wasn't much to look at. What I did view seemed delicious. Not much into doughy pastries but the cakes I saw seemed very well coated with icing. The cupcakes were normal sized and the flavours were common. I tried the Oreo cupcake and Tiramisu cupcake and the Oreo cupcake was sweet and chocolat-ey. Average taste for chocolate nothing extraordinary about the taste but it was appetizing. The Tiramisu cupcake was kind of fresh tasting, a bit bland, not really sweet but not not sweet. The bread cake part was yummy. It didn't taste like the Italian Tiramisu dessert but it wasn't unappealing. The lady at the counter was nice. read more

This tiny little bakery is near the Line Up restaurant in the Exchange District. It's easy to miss this place because it doesn't stand out too much and it just opened a few weeks ago. It's nice to see all these little boutique bakeries/cupcake shops opening around town (now we're only a few years behind the cupcake trend!). LOL. Anyhow, this place is literally 90% kitchen and 10% shop. There's a small counter that displays about 3 flavours of cupcakes at $2.50/each, cake-ettes $1/each (which are denser, sweeter, jaw breaker sized caked covered in icing), brownies, and some cookies. This bakery seemed to specialize in special occasion cakes with intricate designs made with fondant. Their cupcakes are delicious and high quality. I like that the cakes are moist and taste balanced with the various icings offered. I do find the icings a tad sweet but not overly sweet - a fine line. My fav is the chocolate cupcake with mocha filling and chocolate icing. The chocolate cupcake with PB cupcake icing has a nice rich PB taste to it. The chocolate cake-ette is definitely on the sweet side but it's small, probably about 3 bites worth - the cake is mixed with buttercream which makes the cake more dense and rich. Lovely little place to pick up a few sweets at reasonable prices. And remember, it's CASH ONLY and closed on Sundays. read more

In fact, I'm basing my entire review on the strength of one visit to buy three cake-ettes. That's how amazing the cake here is. The cake-ettes are perfect little bites of decadence. They're fantastic on a day when you're longing for sweets, but don't want to eat a huge portion: a single cake-ette is rich, moist, and very satisfying. Chocolate: This was the heaviest of the three and seemed a cross between a truffle and a cupcake. It's guaranteed to sate a chocolate craving. Red Velvet: This is luscious, and is the only red velvet cake I've had in Winnipeg that's just right! It has both the beautiful crimson tint and the right velvety texture. Vanilla Chai: My favourite of the three. This has a wonderful, lightly sweet spiciness to it, and really captures the warm flavour of chai so well! My only (very small) gripe was with the fondant coating and the sugar sprinkles on top of the cake-ettes, which pushed them over the edge into a little too sweet. The cake-ettes might have been better half-covered (like a chocolate-dipped strawberry). And having said that, I'll add that I'm sensitive to sugar, and many things which most people love are "too sweet" to me. If I ever need a cake for an occasion or some little desserts to bring to a gathering, I know where I'm going to get them. YUM! read more

I recently ordered an X-Men themed cake for my husband's 30th birthday. When I went in and discussed design, it seemed like they understood what I wanted. The design I had in mind was the bottom cake was to be Cyclops' visor, middle cake Wolverine's claws, and top cake the X-Men symbol from Professor X's wheel chair. None of these concepts came out at all. Cyclops' visor looked like a blob of fondant, the claws just looked like streaks of grey, and there was no X symbol on the top, just a weird "X-Men" text on white fondant protruding from the top. Since pick up for the cake was the day of the party, I just bit my tongue, and paid the $150.00 for the cake. I had no choice as I had no other cake for the party, and buying a slab cake wasn't going to cut it for the amount of people attending. Plus, I figured looks are not everything, as long as it tastes amazing, who cares what it looks like. Now for the flavors, there were three different flavors for the cake, top was to be marble, middle chocolate, and bottom red velvet. I did get the three I wanted just not in the correct order. The chocolate, and marble were switched. Both were dry, and tasted like something I could have made myself. The Red velvet was moist enough, however half the cake ended up in the garbage since no one really wanted to eat dry cake, and weren't willing to try the third flavor after the first two had bombed. Sadly, I will never go back and order anything from Cake-ology. I was so excited to give my husband a fantastic cake, to be remembered, and all we want to do is forget about it. read more

Everything made is made in house, fresh sweet and so delicious, walking around the exchange district I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted for lunch, so I thought life is uncertain better eat dessert first, when you walk in to cake-ology you will be greeted by the most kind considerate people, who take great pride in the delicious desserts they make , One of my favorites was cheesecake in a jar , that Imperial cookies are to die for, they also make wedding cakes, the one day I was in there the lady told me she had made seven cakes in one day for all different events, and all cakes are made ready to order same day, they really take pride in their work, and you can taste the love that is poured into every sweet morsel, I love their banana bread it is so soft and really quite addicting I basically ate an entire loaf, but I don't run on guilt as when I'm in their store I feel like I revert to a child and a Willy Wonka feeling comes over me, I guess this explains why I'm eating cookies and cake for lunch , if you ask me if I regret it? HELL NO!! I plan on eating my dinner as well, if you're in Winnipeg and you want the best treats on the planet please go visit CAKE-OLOGY ... Ordered a Red velvet cake with what we were assured was cream cheese icing for a birthday on July 9. Picked it up on the 10th. When it was served, none of the 4 guests could taste any cream cheese in the icing. Adding insult to injury, the cake was dry. No one ate a whole serving. We returned the remainder of the cake on Saturday July 11, explaining why. The staff were offhand about matter. Blank looks, finally a young woman appeared from another area and informed use that the icing was butter based. That was it. We left, disappointe4d , insulted and angery. Horrible experenice! Paid almost $200 for a TINY cake that wasn't even fresh at all or even had that much detail to it! When I brought up how outrageous it was of course there was no manager/owner working so the guy there had to text back and forth with his boss... soooo unorganzied and unprofessional. All of the stars in this review are basically for those little cake balls (cakettes)? They're so awesome. It's a little ball of cake covered in chocolate, which also seems to serve to keep the cake inside very fresh and moist. Cupcakes are hit and miss, usually a bit too sweet for me. read more

I was very excited about this cake shop as I had bought a dozen cupcakes through Groupon. I ordered Red Velvet cupcakes which turned out (to me anyway) to look like ones that you would find in a mix. The cupcake diameters were quite small unlike the ones I bought at The Cupcake Corner which were a decent size. Now they charged 28 dollars for 12 and from the size and the fact that they looked and tasted like they came from a mix.....I would not purchase cupcakes from them again. I don't know if perhaps they took shortcuts with the Groupon orders but if they did then they did themselves a disservice. :( read more

I've had two cakes order here in the past. Both times were dry. Felt like it was made days before the pick up date. The decorations on the cake didn't meet up with the inside of the cake. It's a shame for the price you pay. read more

The cake was moist and the icing delicious. But last week, I stopped by and bought a red velvet with cream cheese icing. First, the cupcake was a lot smaller than a regular size cupcake - secondly the cake was very, very dry. I am not sure I would go back. read more

Ordered a wedding cake for my son and his new wife for Feb. 16/13 It was a 3 tier red velvet cake. So many people at the wedding wanted to know who made it. It looked absolutely beautiful.
