Sweet Impressions had its first location in St. Boniface on Tache but has recently moved (Nov 2011)to Stafford Avenue, in a stripmall behind the Price Choppers. The store/decorating/bakery has moved into quite a very large space. They sell a small assortment of bakery accessories (like cookie cutters), retro aprons for women and kids, lots of pre-packaged decorated sugar cookies, regular cookies, a small decorating classroom and of courses cupcakes. They even make mini cupcakes and regular cakes for weddings and other celebrations but that has to be ordered in advance. This is a 100% nut/peanut free bakery. So onto the cupcakes! They are made from scratch and cost $3/each. The flavours change daily so check out their website but chocolate and vanilla flavours are available Tues to Sun. The cake itself has a dry exterior but a surprisingly non-dry interior. The cake isn't super moist but is moist enough so definitely best eaten the day of or the next day. The cake is at the right level of sweetness for me, which means it probably isn't sweet enough for some but I find that it works well to balance off the generous amount of frosting. There's also a cute smiley face sugar cookie topped on each cupcake which gives it a nice distinction from other cupcake places. The cookie was cute but way too sweet...the cookie and the icing was like sugar overload - too much. Good cupcake. I didn't find the service too warm or informative when I asked about a few things. Overall, decent bakery with good hours and a cute retro decor. read more

Was disappointed this summer when I came in to buy some treats before a party though...staff were unfriendly and unenthusuastic when I asked for their help. Finally decided to enter this bakery. I loved the look, the inside smells of butter and sugar- yum. The sugar cookies look totally cool as do the cakes and cupcakes. The outside all the way to the interior is really nice. We are excited to try chocolate cupcakes and the brownies for the chocolate month in Winnipeg. The cupcakes look amazing, the brownies are pre-wrapped in plastic and are very small. We finally get cups of tea prepared to eat the yummies. The Brownies: They are small and flavorless and are very dry have a ton of tea ready. Brownie mixes are easily better, sad but true. They are a skip- hardly the rich chocolate flavor I expected. The chocolate cupcake: The butter cream was the best part of both the cupcake and brownie experience, but hardly my favorite frosting. The cupcake is moist which I find to be a relief after such a dry brownie. However, the actually cake part is not very good, too much flour taste and too much baking powder of soda after taste (not good sensation on the tongue). We have been fans of Sweet Impressions since they opened in St. Boniface way back! Since two of my nieces have severe peanut allergies, Sweet Impressions is our bakery of choice for family occasions and they have never let us down. Having a nut free bakery that you can trust and that makes fabulous and delicious goodies to boot is great. They have always satisfied our needs for custom orders, including cookies and cupcakes for our wedding in 2010. We have already ordered our son's first birthday cake for next month and cake wait to see what they do with it. I can't say enough good things about this place. This cute new little shop sure has delicious cupcakes. I checked this place out over the weekend after hearing a lot of advertising for the place. I wasn't quite sold on the hype. The cupcakes really were delicious, I must say. But at almost $3.00 a piece, I would have much rather spent $8.00 on an awesome piece of cake at Baked Expectations. I do like them because they do custom orders and everything is made fresh daily. Pricey, but definitely worth it! read more

I had such a wonderful experience with Sweet Impressions today that I wanted to share it here. I called them this morning with a very last-minute request, on behalf of a friend who was urgently trying to get a special delivery to some friends in town. From the moment they answered the phone, the SI staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Their response to my request was "We will make this happen for you - just tell us what you need." I will admit that another bakery was contacted first, and their response was exactly the opposite :(. I am so thankful to Sweet Impressions for their help. I have been in the shop once before, and it is a beautiful place to be. After my experience today, I will be making a specific effort to be a more regular customer. Well I wont be going back to Sweet Impressions! Picked up a cake for a very special day and it tasted very old, cake was dry and hard aroung the edges. YuK! Also charged me 48 dollars for thier cookie cake but there were NO cookies on it:( The funny thing is that we tried the cupcakes when we ordered the cake and the cupcakes were good. The cake did not taste anything like the cupcakes we tried (same flavour). I knew I should have stuck with the tried and true bakeries of Winnipeg! read more

I recently purchased one of Sweet Impressions Chocolate Cookie Cakes for my sons 21st birthday - I chose Sweet Impressions specifically due to their peanut free claim - it was nice to be able to have a specialty cake for my son how has severe allergies. The cake was purchased directly from the store with no pre order it was frozen and then thawed at home - I was surprised at the pooling of water after two hours which I sopped up with a cloth - this did not affect the taste of the cake at all which was amazing and at $29 I would expect nothing less. The cake was not overly sweet and had a nice chocolate taste. For special occasions I would purchase the cake again! read more

I recently was trying to order a last minute surprise cake for a friend in Winnipeg when I live very far away and couldn't take care of it in person. I emailed Sweet Impressions, and was able to not just get through to them quickly but the owner herself replied and helped me organize getting the cake delivered within an hour. It was a perfect customer service experience, and they really went out of their way to help me make the day special for a friend and I can't thank them enough for that. read more

This place is ok, the baking was just ok, nothing to remember really. I also wasn't impressed with the variety, but maybe thats because there is barely any. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a nice indulgent dessert. But its good to meet friends for a coffe and muffin. read more

amazing cupcakes omg so good. made from scratch. they carry gluten free. everything is peanut free. they do weddings which is why i first stopped in. amazingly they make Cakes too. very fair priced at approx 3$ a cupcake. even when u say the word "wedding" and everyone else doubles the price they stay the same. they only take a limited amount of weddings per weekend to ensure you get best service and quality. they have season specialties like pumpkin cupcakes around the time pumpkins are available they roast the pumpkins in house and its all friom sctach and fresh. highly recommended. whenm you book your wedding they dont give u a "sampling" INSTEAD! which was AMAZING they give u a 10 free cupcake card! perfect so you can sample the special kinds they have which change every month. each day has a specific list of cupcakes they make and repeats every week for the month. read more
