When Spicy Noodle House first opened, I was excited. It was two blocks away from where I lived, in the heart of Osborne Village. Chinese food wasn't amazing when I lived there. Winnipeg's Chinatown was so tiny that you'd blink and you were done walking the whole thing. Osborne Village did not have a northern Chinese eatery until this place opened up. It was and continues to be steps away from my favourite used music and DVD store. You walk downstairs to get to this restaurant. Even though I lived two blocks away, I probably did takeout once. Most of my meals were delivery. I'd call in my order and one of the family members (mainly the dad back then) would happily come over to deliver my food. I have dined here a couple of times. Spicy Noodle House became my go-to place for yumminess and a bit of home cooking away from home. My favourite meal was the beef brisket in noodles. The beef brisket was tender and incredibly flavourful. It reminded me of how my mom made it, but without the turnips. This place took them out, which I appreciated! The noodles were thick and chewy. The broth was so good. I never had a disaster with the broth getting delivered to me. I also got these huge dumplings that were filled with pork goodness. Sadly, I don't see them on the menu anymore. However, if you get something similar, such as their wontons, you can't go wrong. They are so delicious and comforting. This place is generous with portions. I have also had their mooshi. I've done the pork, beef, and chicken. I am missing the vegetable to complete my mooshi mission. It was all good. It's funny how I only have had mooshi in Winnipeg. Maybe cold evenings scream mooshi as comfort food to me. I passed by this eatery the last time I was in Winnipeg, and was happy that it's still alive and kicking. I am salivating writing this review. I used to eat here once or twice a month when I lived in the village a little over a decade ago. I got my usual order on NYE 2025/2026. It was sooo disappointing. The duck had ALL THE SKIN AND FAT TAKEN OFF OF IT! There was only skin on the leg. It looked purposely taken off. Wtf? That's the best part! The shrimp in black bean sauce had 9 small shrimps in the whole dish. I've never had veal that was the colour of chuck roast... The portions were small. The "deluxe" dishes we ordered were stingy. All the meat was overcooked and dry. It sucks to say goodbye to an old friend, but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I recently returned to the peg in minus 40 degree weather and so wanted a tasty spicy soup to warm my insides and thought to return to an old staple. I looked up the reviews since I had last posted and was surprised to see so many negative ones that I was a little concerned that I might have a negative experience. Had the quality gone down? Was the service now poor? Had the recipes changed? I ordered my go to soup (spicy peanut noodle with pork chops) and shared the mixed dim sum and can confidently answer those questions in order: No No No Same delicious soup for over 15 years. Same great and friendly service. The lunch crowd was sparse but the delivery business was constant. I can't answer to the other menu items, I love that one soup and it is my go to. The dim sum items were good but not any better or worse than anywhere else. Below is my original post Though I no longer live in the peg whenever I return I always try to visit this place. It is nice to have a dish that you love that always stays the same even after many years have passed. My go to is the spicy peanut noodle soup with pork chops. You can get it without the pork chops but there is something about dropping them into the soup to let them suck up that yummy peanut broth that goes so very well together. This soup is marked as spicy and to be sure it is, though not overpoweringly. If you can't handle spice this is not for you though. It can also be a bit messy to eat so don't wear white when eating it. This soup is worth the travel. Definitely try it out. read more

This little hole in the wall is my favorite 'go to' place. There's just something about the atmosphere that you know you're here just for the food. I got the Deep Fried Pork Chop w/ Spicy Peanut Noodle Soup (otherwise known as dandan mian) and my partner got the Celery and Ground Beef w/ Chili Noodle Soup. Both were superb and we can't get enough. Service might not be top notch but that doesn't matter when you're absorbed in your food.. you honestly don't want to talk to anyone. There is also the delicious Deep Fried Green Onion Cake which is worth sharing and dipping in your soup. Service is definitely fast and I think they just have a huge pot boiling in the back- beware that when you first dig in it will be hot as if being on the burner for the while. It wasn't too busy when I went on a Monday night, but from I was told this place gets incredibly busy during lunch. There were also many takeout orders as well. I had the ground pork with peanut noodle soup. I also shared the cantonese fried rice, shredded duck, and fried squid. They were okay, nothing too spectacular. The noodles, however, were quite overcooked and broke apart quite easily. The fried rice and shredded duck were both very good, while the fried squid was average. Service was excellent for what it's worth. It was a place I had to try given the good reviews here, but I'll probably not return as there's better noodle options out there. read more

My family and I decided to try this restaurant out partially because it was close to where we were staying while visiting Winnipeg, but mostly because of the super positive reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately our meal was overall really disappointing and I would not return here again. Maybe it was because we got take out instead of dining in that resulted in the poor quality of food, who knows. The Cantonese Chow Mien, which is supposed to be crispy noodles were super soggy and overlooked, the beef in the beef and gai lan basically just tasted like it was boiled (and the veggies were really oily), and the peanut noodle soup had very overcooked soggy noodles and there was nothing special about to soup compared to others I have had in Calgary and Toronto. We also had the sweet and sour pork which was really greasy and heavily battered, but at least the sauce was pretty tasty. read more

I think this was the worst food I've ever had in Winnipeg. After 5 minutes we paid and left because it was so gross. The chicken was deep fried and white because it had no seasoning. The curry was bland and the beef tasted dry and flavourless like it was frozen for weeks. We got home and started eating ice cream to try and get the taste out of our mouths. I don't know who rated this food good but i was warned by a few people that the food was awful but I was tricked by what are probably fake reviews. I've since texted around to see if anyone I know had been there and the ones ones that had said they'd never go again. It was also really expensive. Not able to accommodate lunch hour orders, and not willing to communicate this to me. I requested a 1 pm delivery. I was still starring at the skip the dishes tracker at 1:30. They called to confirm order and ask questions. I thought if they had an issue with my instructions that delivery needed to be by 1 pm they would have said something at the time. Order was placed at 8 am as this was a coworkers last day and we wanted to make sure it was here for our lunch hour. Try thida's on Donald if you want Asian. We ordered a couple soups to share and the house special chow mein in hot pot and the serving sizes were perfect for 3 people to share and not feel stuffed afterwards. Everything was delicious but the celery and ground beef chili noodle soup was by far my favorite. Spicy deliciousness. read more

Just delightful. Comfy and welcoming on cold Winnipeg winter days (and year-round), this Osborne Village staple is a sure thing for tasty northern Chinese cuisine. As the name suggests, their noodle soups are wonderful and the standard stir-fry and hot-pot dishes are consistently good as well. Try the little pancake wrap things (I forget what they're called!). We hadn't eaten here in a long time, but had good (albeit fuzzy) memories of it. Unfortunately, the food this time was just average. Some things were good, such as the eggplant in black bean sauce and the shrimp with spicy salt. However, many of the dishes were fairly one-dimensional or bland. The mooshi was quite disappointing, as was the (good-sounding) shredded duck with soybeans. Perhaps a decade ago, this was a good choice, but now there are a huge selection of very good Asian restaurants throughout the city - especially in the south end suburbs. Spicy Noodle House used to be great, but has changed owners and is now one of the worst restaurants (oriental or other) in Winnipeg. My wife and I scoured the city looking for the best hot and sour soup and thought we found it at Spicy Noodle House. It used to have awesome, spicy flavour, perfect balance and filled with mushrooms, shrimp pork, tofu, bamboo and vegies. We had it a few months ago and it was nothing but thin broth that tasted like heated vinegar - absolutely inedible. My son had his once favorite spicy peanut noodle soup which was nothing more than a jar of microwaved peanut butter with some pasty tasting noodles . The deluxe chow mien was once filled with shrimp, meat and vegetables, but now is nothing but a plate of gooey noodles. We know every place has its off days, so we tried it again a week ago, and each dish we had from the soup to the ginger beef was a disappointment in both taste and portion size. An ex coworker told me to try this place's Spicy Noodle Peanut Soup and he was right to tell me so. In the 3 years I have spent in Winnipeg, I must've been to that place over 30 times. I guess I ordered the wrong things based on the other reviews. The "Deluxe wonton soup" was salty and flavored with soy sauce only it seemed. The Cantonese chow mien was sparse and mostly noodles with little flavor. The Spicy dry ginger beef was none of those things and the portion was terribly small. The only thing that was worth my money was the veggie fried rice, very ironic. And to top it off, when I got delivery (47$ with taxes) The driver had the gall to ask if I wanted change from 60$ Will not be ordering again from them. read more
