The restaurant was busy but not packed when we walked in a Friday evening. I could hear a few patrons speaking Mandarin so that was a promising sign. The menu was simple. That's was another good sign that the restaurant focuses on serving their signature dishes. I was also glad to see that you could choose from 8 different types of their noodles hand pulled in house based on thickness and shapes. I had flat noodles with beef tendon in soup. My husband opted for tan tan noodle with thin noodles. We both asked for medium spicy. My soup was rich, the beef tendon pieces were tendon, and the hand pulled noodles had the perfect springiness for Lanzhou noodles. My husband loved his tan tan noodle dish, too. We were both full half way through but could not stop eating. Service was really friendly as well. When we headed out the door, my husband asked if we left a good tip so we could come back again tomorrow night.

Especially nice if you just want to get a quick meal and go. They also have high chairs for toddlers. We were greeted quickly and sat to our table right away. We went around 12-1pm and it wasn't busy at this time. Lots of food and drink options, took us a while to decide. My friend ended up getting their Banza Beef Noodle Soup and Langya Potato, while I got the Tofu and Rice Noodle and Iced Coffee. Absolutely love the Tofu and Rice Noodle (with spice), noodles were soft and slippery to eat, there was meat on it I think but it wasn't listed on the description and I couldn't tell if it was beef or pork. Warning, it was extremely spicy for me and I have moderate spice tolerance, but the soft tofu alleviated the spice and I was able to finish my dish. The hint of nuttiness from the walnut was a great addition to the dish and made it more interesting to eat since it had that crunch while all the other ingredients had softer and chewier texture. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you just need a quick meal!

I ordered the salad rolls with pork and shrimp...structurally very substantial in size and full of stuff. One could just order a few of these and have a nice filling meal. That said, the peanut sauce wasn't particularly creamy or pea-nutty. The pho is served in a moderately size bowl, but they didn't offer a lot of sprouts or basil. The salad roll had basil as a garnish and I put them into the pho. Also, there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor in the soup base itself...it wasn't watery just bland. Lastly I order the crepe sweet potato and shrimp. To describe this as a "crepe" has never had a crepe (made in the French tradition). It's not at all pancake like and more like a hash brown with shrimp. It was good and crispy but not at all what I expect. The restaurant has amazing ambience, kudos to the decor...with a wall length mural of a peacock and hanging paper lanterns...the restaurant looks exotic. Lastly, service was also just ok, not special or fast. Also, I got my entire order all at once, which I hate especially since I like having Pho hot. When one gets everything at once stuff gets cold! The cooks have no sense of timing (seemingly) and are more concerned about getting the order out. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant full of charm with ok food and care for the customer. If you're not as exacting as I am about Pho and dining out in general...you may like it...the food is certainly filling.

Winnipeg's Chinatown was so tiny that you'd blink and you were done walking the whole thing. Osborne Village did not have a northern Chinese eatery until this place opened up. It was and continues to be steps away from my favourite used music and DVD store. You walk downstairs to get to this restaurant. Even though I lived two blocks away, I probably did takeout once. Most of my meals were delivery. I'd call in my order and one of the family members (mainly the dad back then) would happily come over to deliver my food. I have dined here a couple of times. Spicy Noodle House became my go-to place for yumminess and a bit of home cooking away from home. My favourite meal was the beef brisket in noodles. The beef brisket was tender and incredibly flavourful. It reminded me of how my mom made it, but without the turnips. This place took them out, which I appreciated! The noodles were thick and chewy. The broth was so good. I never had a disaster with the broth getting delivered to me. I also got these huge dumplings that were filled with pork goodness. Sadly, I don't see them on the menu anymore. However, if you get something similar, such as their wontons, you can't go wrong. They are so delicious and comforting. This place is generous with portions. I have also had their mooshi. I've done the pork, beef, and chicken. I am missing the vegetable to complete my mooshi mission. It was all good. It's funny how I only have had mooshi in Winnipeg. Maybe cold evenings scream mooshi as comfort food to me. I passed by this eatery the last time I was in Winnipeg, and was happy that it's still alive and kicking. I am salivating writing this review. I need to return and get reacquainted with the food again. (134)

Every time that I've been there, the place is packed. The interior reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant, much similar to the local shops or known as in Cantonese, "cha chan teng," which you'll find in Hong Kong. When ordering, they provide you with a sheet that has all the food items. All you have to do is put a check mark next to the dishes you want, and flag the waitress/waiter over, and hand it to him/her. I have tried their dim sum, with the selection being limited, but they do offer a bit more on weekends and holidays. The barbecue pork rice was a generous portion and comes with some Chinese greens. The wonton noodle soup is also very good, portion again is generous, and also is served with Chinese greens and scallion. Other items I have also tried include the pan fried beef ho fan, century egg and lean pork congee, and one of the clay pot rices. To sum it all, good food, inexpensive, and large portions that's great for sharing.

Lots to say, but in short, try a different ramen restaurant. I sampled a ton thanks to their meal…read moreset and was VERY underwhelmed. The miso ramen is boring. The broth is thick hot water with almost literally no flavor, and there's definitely no harmony. It's like the broth was made using boxed stock/broth. They say there's a 12 hour in house broth cooked daily but it isn't working well. You know how many ramens and stews taste better as the flavors settle and sink in? That doesn't happen here. The chicken karage is solid but heavy on the breading. You get more crispy skin than chicken which isn't ideal if you're hungry. Or, you know, paying for chicken. The vegetarian gyoza are fine but nothing special. The bottoms look charred but taste soft, almost like the color was painted on - I know it's not, but it still looks that way. Then there's the vegetarian ramen... It's bad. It's bad enough that I can call it the worst vegetarian ramen I've tried. Truly no flavor and it's so unremarkable that I'm struggling to describe it. It's corn, chives, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and noodles floating in hot water. You will absolutely need to add salt and spice. You'll also notice that what you receive in both size and color doesn't match the menu photos. Look at the Monthly Combo in my menu photo. Best example is that the salad I was served was 1/4 the size and also missing tomato and cucumber as shown in the photo. Save your money, skip this spot.
