Fries and "pork" broth miso ramen soup
    Jennyfer A.

I ate the "pork" Miso version of the ramen broth and wasn't super impressed with it. It could have just been my taste buds though...I wish there had been more noodles and veggies somehow. The mayo fries with seafood flakes were delicious though. The sweet green tea tasted like a gym workout smoothie! You know the green wheat grass types? It looked and tasted a bit like that but a bit sweeter. Overall the place was nice and clean and the food yummy enough and the staff very attentive and friendly that it gets a B+, a 4 star. I like thick noodles more and their noodles are thin but I didn't let that count in the ratings.

New-ish ramen place that opened along Pembina Highway in Fort Garry. Went here recently for lunch and heard decent reviews, so I wanted to give it a shot. It's a pretty cool open concept look, modern and all that. It wasn't busy at all when I went, although it was around 1:30pm on a weekday. I had the cho ichi original with the tonkotsu base. The broth was definitely creamy and the noodles were fresh, however note that they use thin noodles here, not thick. I'm personally a thick noodle fan, but I didn't let that play a factor for this review. The chashu was good and the portions were reasonable. The entire bowl, unfortunately, was not hot enough, especially the broth. Perhaps it sat a bit too long before it was given to me, or I came after peak hours and the broth temperature wasn't kept as high? Who knows. Service was quite disorganized. Normally for ramen places efficiency is the norm, but they were quite slow in taking my order and getting my bill after I was done. I think judging from the other reviews this place is quite okay if you like thin ramen. For thick ramen however, Yujiro still takes the cake.

Recently moved to Winnipeg and was told that this place had the most authentic Ramen in the city, but their quality has gone down ever since they became known. Not sure if its true, but if it is I surely hope that they get their act together. Currently their ramen is okay, no flavour really comes out at you while being over priced and under portioned (plus they charge extra for eggs!?!?!) Location is clean, has a friendly staff and tons of parking in the back

The best and most authentic ramen restaurant in Winnipeg!! Delicious tonkatsu broth, thin, flavourful chashu and very good thin noodles which are homemade. Toppings and egg are excellent as well. Visited Japan for the first time this year and have had a lot of ramen, so I can say that this place is a must go if you get a chance! They have some side dishes as well such as dumplings and fries but I only tried the tonkatsu special ramen which has all the works. Wished the portions were a tiny bit bigger but overall very tasty ramen. Stay hungry and explore!!

The restaurant itself has a modern look to it. Friendly server, the wait wasn't long at all. The food was so good! The broth is creamy and light, the handmade noodles texture was perfect and portion size was amazingly satisfying. I usually never finish the whole broth but I definitely did with this one and it left me feeling a nice full not a gross bloated feeling. So worth the try and great pricing!

It might not look too big from the photo, but MANNN there was a crazy amount of noodles and other stuff added.

After hitting the gym, I decided to pay this place a visit. Beside from what's available on the menu, here they also offer a ramen eating challenge where you have to finish the piping hot bowl of noodles in 25 minutes. You lose some so you can gain some, so I went for the challenge. The portion was double the size of my face, but I manage to finish all the food except for the broth. Eventhough I lost, but that 25 minutes was extremely worth-while and breathtaking, like literally. - The restaurant is by far the best ramen place in Winnipeg. - The tonkotsu pork was a bit on the fatty side, but tasted heavenly. - The broth took the ramen on to another level, had a milky kind of flavor. Sadly, I could not finish :( - The ramen was hand-made, by that it added a taste of authenticity to every bite. - The waiters were so friendly and enthusiastic from start to end, and they were so encouraging while I was doing the challenge. - I can see myself coming back for more, for another challenge maybe ^^

My favourite ramen place in the city. Here's a tip: get some chili oil paste on the side and add to your spice preference.

We ordered the chicken shoyu ramen and the chashumen. The chicken shoyu ramen had a flavourful broth that was a bit on the sweet side for me, but my partner really enjoyed. We both loved the shrimp broth in the chashumen! It's rich and creamy and has a surprisingly strong shrimp flavour. Definitely recommend! We also ordered the bubble matcha matte and strawberry oolong tea which were both refreshing. We'll definitely be coming back to try some of the rice dishes!

We ordered the three main dishes that they currently offered. All three dishes were good, but my favourite was the signature hellomen due to the unique shrimp based broth. However, we did find it needed a bit of salt to enhance the flavours, otherwise, it would have been perfect. My second favourite was the HK style char siu stirred noodles, which had great flavour and the char siu tasted good. Would have loved for it to have more green onions though. I also really enjoyed the HK style milk tea. It tasted just as how I remembered it when I was in HK before.

I was a bit confused though as to where the drinks were on the menu, but when we went to pay for our meal we saw that the list of drinks were on a sheet of paper attached on the side of the cash registry. I ended up ordering a tuna donburi bowl, it was absolutely delicious! Tuna just melts in your mouth, and the portion is quite big as well as it got me full quickly. My friend ended up getting their Banza Beef Noodle Soup and Langya Potato, while I got the Tofu and Rice Noodle and Iced Coffee. Absolutely love the Tofu and Rice Noodle (with spice), noodles were soft and slippery to eat, there was meat on it I think but it wasn't listed on the description and I couldn't tell if it was beef or pork. Warning, it was extremely spicy for me and I have moderate spice tolerance, but the soft tofu alleviated the spice and I was able to finish my dish. The hint of nuttiness from the walnut was a great addition to the dish and made it more interesting to eat since it had that crunch while all the other ingredients had softer and chewier texture. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you just need a quick meal!

Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse was the most popular Japanese restaurant then. It didn't and continues to not have ramen on its menu. Sushi restaurants were starting to bud in the city back then. On my first day in Winnipeg earlier this month, I wanted to grab dinner before driving to Steinbach. Since I had never had ramen at a restaurant in Winnipeg, I did a search and found GaiJin Izakaya. I said yes and drove over to this eatery. This restaurant is located in a plaza. There was plenty of parking when I had arrived. I parked and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a woman. I asked if I could get a table. She led me to a booth. I'm glad that I beat the dinner rush, as she asked other customers after me whether they had a reservation. There was a QR code on the table. You scan it to access the menu. The drink menu was there on the table. It was also online. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Gyoza - Miso ramen (bamboo shoots held) - Black sesame ice cream I added gyoza for $5 to make my miso ramen a combo. I recommend it, as gyoza as an appetizer on its own is $14.50. My miso ramen came with miso broth that contained both pork and chicken flavours. This dish featured chashu, wakame, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a marinated egg. I asked if I could get the bamboo shoots held. Done! My Diet Coke came out first. I got a glass with ice. I appreciated that gesture. I poured my beverage into the glass, which made my drink nicely cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. My gyoza came out next. The filling was pork and it was delicious. Each gyoza was flavourful and perfectly fried. They were crispy and yummy. My bowl of miso ramen came out next. I was excited. The best move that this eatery does is to separate the roasted seaweed from the broth. Most eateries dunk the sheets of seaweed in the ramen and you end up eating soggy, flabby seaweed sheets. I appreciated this detail. I had a bit of roasted seaweed left and put it off to the side on a plate so it wouldn't get soggy. My server was super effective clearing items off my table. She was about to clear my plate with the seaweed on it. I asked her to hold off, so I could grab my seaweed. I can't let that go to waste. I loved it. I was also paying for good roasted seaweed. The miso ramen here is exceptional. You can tell if the broth doesn't excite me if I don't consume the entire thing. I did here. The combination of pork and chicken broth with miso was tasty and brilliant. It was wonderful. I'm drooling. The ramen was bouncy and had the perfect chew. The slices of chashu were thick and tender. It had good flavour and I enjoyed the balance between the fat and the protein. I normally get corn, but completely forgot to order some. Oops! I was content with the green onions, wakame, and jammy, marinated egg. They pulled everything together to make this miso ramen so special and comforting. I was ready for dessert. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There was matcha and black sesame. I chose the latter. I don't have black sesame ice cream often. It was so creamy and had a delightful nutty flavour to it. It was the perfect ending to this meal. My server was attentive. She got me the bill. I let her know that everything was fabulous. She was delighted. I paid with a credit card and tipped. I tapped and I was done. I used the washroom before I made the brief trip eastbound to Steinbach. It was clean. No complaints. I got melon candy as a parting gift. I loved it. It's always a favourite of mine. This eatery is a gem for delicious, authentic ramen and gyoza. Come here! This place also offers sushi rolls, baos, and more. I'd love to return and try other items on the menu. However, I feel that I'll be back for more ramen. Priorities! (250)
