I ordered from here through skip the dishes and I kid u not.. there was a massive hair ball in my soup... wrapped around some noodles. I was really into the soup until I found that which was super unfortunate. I called the place to tell them and they offered me another bowl of soup.. which I truly don't understand why they would offer me a new bowl considering now I don't trust them and don't want to experience another bowl of ramen with hair. I'm super turned off by this place. They then just said goodbye. I guess I was expecting some sort of compensation for the hair considering it's not a cheap bowl of soup... but no such thing. They just said "ok bye". I would be careful eating here.

Nice Ramen and Lunch special, and waitresses are really friendly. Spicy miso is really good for who like spice food!

Kyu Bistro is a small restaurant that is offers up small assortment of typical izakaya items and ramen. So don't expect any sushi. The menu is pretty small as there are a few starters, skewers and then 4 different ramen bowls. If you don't like ramen, I would suggest going somewhere else because you won't fill up on the other items here. It's best to get a couple of small plates plus a ramen for dinner. You won't be full with just a ramen bowl (at least I wasn't and I shared a couple of small plates too!) The ramen craze hasn't hit Winnipeg yet so I'll take what we can get here. I have to say the ramen was excellent, though not made in house but made fresh from California. The ramen had a great texture. I tried the spicy miso for $8.50 - it had chopped pork shoulder, spicy miso paste, bean sprouts, corn, menma, green onion, carrots and I added an egg to mine. There wasn't a lot of pork in mine and though I enjoyed the spicy nature of this dish, the miso is a bit overpowering in this dish. Next time, I'll get the clearer broth - "shio ramen." Overall, the ramen was good. Also, if you don't eat pork, the only ramen you can have is the "shio vegetable ramen" as the other 3 bowls have pork in it. As for the other small plates, they all felt a bit pricey for what you get and the flavour was ok as most of the items had a teriyaki flavour to it. My fave out of the bunch was the gyuniku tsuke ninjin - beef and pickled carrots $5.50; 4 portions of thinly cut beef that encased pickled carrots inside. The pickled carrots made this dish otherwise the beef was marinated in teriyaki. The panko butterfly shrimp ($8) were plump and not greasy at all but you've tasted versions of this at every restaurant. The skewered teriyaki chicken breast ($4.50) were cooked well and prepared very simply and the skewered scallops ($6) were a bit overcooked. Overall, service was very friendly, cheery and helpful. I would come back to try another ramen for lunch as the portion size is perfect mid day. This place is not open late as it closes at 9 pm so no late night snacking here. The area is not optimal and may scare some people since it's on Isabel. I guess it's never a good sign when all the stores in that strip mall have metal bars in their windows. But there is a small lot that you can park in which is very convenient. I've eaten in this area several times and have never had any issues.

Let me start off by saying the deep fried tofu here is great. That being said, the ramen is very average. I got the shio ramen and it wasn't bad but the broth was kind of bland. I added soya to it, which I should never even think about doing with a good ramen broth. It wasn't something I would care to go out of my way again. The pork was great in it so I'm hopeful that maybe the other ramen dishes wbe better.

Ginger pork with edamame, rice, spring rolls and sweet chili sauce. Delicious!

My first time visiting. The service and food was great! The ginger pork had a nice sauce with slivers of fresh ginger. The deep fried tofu was crispy and also very good. Lots of people were doing take out. The place is small in an unassuming strip mall but worth a visit.

Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse was the most popular Japanese restaurant then. It didn't and continues to not have ramen on its menu. Sushi restaurants were starting to bud in the city back then. On my first day in Winnipeg earlier this month, I wanted to grab dinner before driving to Steinbach. Since I had never had ramen at a restaurant in Winnipeg, I did a search and found GaiJin Izakaya. I said yes and drove over to this eatery. This restaurant is located in a plaza. There was plenty of parking when I had arrived. I parked and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a woman. I asked if I could get a table. She led me to a booth. I'm glad that I beat the dinner rush, as she asked other customers after me whether they had a reservation. There was a QR code on the table. You scan it to access the menu. The drink menu was there on the table. It was also online. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Gyoza - Miso ramen (bamboo shoots held) - Black sesame ice cream I added gyoza for $5 to make my miso ramen a combo. I recommend it, as gyoza as an appetizer on its own is $14.50. My miso ramen came with miso broth that contained both pork and chicken flavours. This dish featured chashu, wakame, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a marinated egg. I asked if I could get the bamboo shoots held. Done! My Diet Coke came out first. I got a glass with ice. I appreciated that gesture. I poured my beverage into the glass, which made my drink nicely cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. My gyoza came out next. The filling was pork and it was delicious. Each gyoza was flavourful and perfectly fried. They were crispy and yummy. My bowl of miso ramen came out next. I was excited. The best move that this eatery does is to separate the roasted seaweed from the broth. Most eateries dunk the sheets of seaweed in the ramen and you end up eating soggy, flabby seaweed sheets. I appreciated this detail. I had a bit of roasted seaweed left and put it off to the side on a plate so it wouldn't get soggy. My server was super effective clearing items off my table. She was about to clear my plate with the seaweed on it. I asked her to hold off, so I could grab my seaweed. I can't let that go to waste. I loved it. I was also paying for good roasted seaweed. The miso ramen here is exceptional. You can tell if the broth doesn't excite me if I don't consume the entire thing. I did here. The combination of pork and chicken broth with miso was tasty and brilliant. It was wonderful. I'm drooling. The ramen was bouncy and had the perfect chew. The slices of chashu were thick and tender. It had good flavour and I enjoyed the balance between the fat and the protein. I normally get corn, but completely forgot to order some. Oops! I was content with the green onions, wakame, and jammy, marinated egg. They pulled everything together to make this miso ramen so special and comforting. I was ready for dessert. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There was matcha and black sesame. I chose the latter. I don't have black sesame ice cream often. It was so creamy and had a delightful nutty flavour to it. It was the perfect ending to this meal. My server was attentive. She got me the bill. I let her know that everything was fabulous. She was delighted. I paid with a credit card and tipped. I tapped and I was done. I used the washroom before I made the brief trip eastbound to Steinbach. It was clean. No complaints. I got melon candy as a parting gift. I loved it. It's always a favourite of mine. This eatery is a gem for delicious, authentic ramen and gyoza. Come here! This place also offers sushi rolls, baos, and more. I'd love to return and try other items on the menu. However, I feel that I'll be back for more ramen. Priorities! (250)

Their ramen is excellent -- rich, flavourful broth and thick, tender cuts of char siu that melt in your mouth. The menu is huge, offering tons of variety beyond just ramen, so there's something for everyone no matter what you're craving. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get, and the service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The interior is clean and modern, with tidy tables and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. It's rare to find a spot that nails both quality and value, but GaiJin Izakaya does exactly that. Easily one of Winnipeg's best-kept secrets -- this place deserves way more recognition.

Despite the lack of a business sign, there was crazy fanfare while dining here for lunch today. I had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, and unfortunately with the demand here you may have to wait outside. They don't have a system yet where they could call/text you to know when your table's ready. There was a bit of a fantasy theme with the menus here, as some of the items make you think of role playing games like Runescape or League of Legends. Even their website screams fairy tale/fantasy/video game themed. I had The Oak Ramen, which consisted of pork and chicken based kale milk soup, pork katsu, egg, dill, corn, wood ear mushroom, leek, onion flakes, black garlic oil, and sesame. This is one of the most unique bowls of ramen I've had, it's a diversion from your traditional chashu ramen. Their bowl is gigantic, though their portion sizes are only average to above average. You have a choice between their traditional ramen or thinner-style ramen, but I suggest traditional here. I can say in terms of the noodles, this is the best in the city. However I found the pork katsu didn't really fit in with the ramen; I would've preferred chashu for sure. I also had a Sylph matcha milkshake. I liked it, though $10 is slightly steep in my opinion. Service was a bit disorganized, and they need a numbering system if the demand they have for this place holds, because there were way too many people crowding the entrance. Hopefully they'll solve that eventually. Isekai is definitely now the best ramen place in the city. I'm sure they'll solve their teething issues with service and organization.
