I'd say this place is an Asian oasis in an odd stripmall location. The pro is that there is plenty of parking and shockingly when you walk inside, it's super busy and nicely decorated. It's very much the contrast to the empty after hours Brick's parking lot. The price range is somewhat less expensive to average compared to other sushi places. Nigiri sushi (2 pcs) averages $3.50-$4.50, maki sushi and inside out rolls range from $3.50 to $5 with the spider roll at $8. Their specialty rolls average $12 and sashimi 4 pcs of tuna or salmon is $7 or 8 pcs for $13.50. This place has a dizzying array of rolls to choose though many of them are obviously slight deviations from another. I am not a fan of California rolls and unfortunately, this roll serves as the base to a few of their specialty rolls. There seems to be an emphasis on healthy offerings as they don't use Japanese mayo here at all. Apparently the "SC sauce" is the mayo substituted by olive oil and some other healthier ingredients. There's also a roll that made me laugh - the "crunch fibre roll" - apple, celery, asparagus and banana sauce. The roll doesn't sound very appealing but I will give them props for originality. There's even a dessert roll called the "tiramisu" - there's a mixture of crabmeat, tobiko, mascarpone cheese and blueberry sauce. To be honest, that dessert roll sounds a bit scary! Lol. Their tuna goma ae ($5.50) is probably one of the best ones I've had as the sesame dressing does not overpower the tuna, avocado and spinach. I would definitely order this again. The tuna/salmon sashimi ($13.50 for 8 pcs) tasted very bland. This probably makes for good sashimi for those who are new to this cuisine because there's no real flavour. But salmon and tuna are not tasteless or bland fish so this was quite odd. The chopped scallop roll ($5) tasted very light as it didn't the usual mayo in there, though I can't say there was a lot of scallops. The negi tuna roll ($4.20) is chopped tuna with green onions - a fav of mine but unfortunately this particular roll's rice was too wet which changes the texture and flavour of the roll. The other roll didn't have the same rice issue so I'll chalk that up to a new batch of rice that wasn't cooled properly. I've had soggy rice at other sushi places too so I won't hold it against them. This place isn't near me so I don't know if I'd go out of my way to eat here but if I was in the area, it is a decent option for sushi though not the best.

    6 rolls of heaven!

We keep coming back! Great food, excellent service and just a quick walk from the cinema. It can be a little daunting to find the first time but it is so worth the effort!

    I was hunger that day.

Back again I find for the area they are about the best, and it was between two things I was doing so I stopped by. I still find they do an good job of the Sushi and provide quick service. Yes I will likely make it back again when I am hungry and in the area.

Favourite sushi in Winnipeg. Swimming prawn roll is the best. Prices are great. Gyoza is good too just specify steamed or deep fried.

I stand corrected. They do serve Tuna Tataki! It's a bit pricey but you will not be dissappointed.

Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse was the most popular Japanese restaurant then. It didn't and continues to not have ramen on its menu. Sushi restaurants were starting to bud in the city back then. On my first day in Winnipeg earlier this month, I wanted to grab dinner before driving to Steinbach. Since I had never had ramen at a restaurant in Winnipeg, I did a search and found GaiJin Izakaya. I said yes and drove over to this eatery. This restaurant is located in a plaza. There was plenty of parking when I had arrived. I parked and walked in. I was immediately greeted by a woman. I asked if I could get a table. She led me to a booth. I'm glad that I beat the dinner rush, as she asked other customers after me whether they had a reservation. There was a QR code on the table. You scan it to access the menu. The drink menu was there on the table. It was also online. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Gyoza - Miso ramen (bamboo shoots held) - Black sesame ice cream I added gyoza for $5 to make my miso ramen a combo. I recommend it, as gyoza as an appetizer on its own is $14.50. My miso ramen came with miso broth that contained both pork and chicken flavours. This dish featured chashu, wakame, bamboo shoots, green onions, and a marinated egg. I asked if I could get the bamboo shoots held. Done! My Diet Coke came out first. I got a glass with ice. I appreciated that gesture. I poured my beverage into the glass, which made my drink nicely cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. My gyoza came out next. The filling was pork and it was delicious. Each gyoza was flavourful and perfectly fried. They were crispy and yummy. My bowl of miso ramen came out next. I was excited. The best move that this eatery does is to separate the roasted seaweed from the broth. Most eateries dunk the sheets of seaweed in the ramen and you end up eating soggy, flabby seaweed sheets. I appreciated this detail. I had a bit of roasted seaweed left and put it off to the side on a plate so it wouldn't get soggy. My server was super effective clearing items off my table. She was about to clear my plate with the seaweed on it. I asked her to hold off, so I could grab my seaweed. I can't let that go to waste. I loved it. I was also paying for good roasted seaweed. The miso ramen here is exceptional. You can tell if the broth doesn't excite me if I don't consume the entire thing. I did here. The combination of pork and chicken broth with miso was tasty and brilliant. It was wonderful. I'm drooling. The ramen was bouncy and had the perfect chew. The slices of chashu were thick and tender. It had good flavour and I enjoyed the balance between the fat and the protein. I normally get corn, but completely forgot to order some. Oops! I was content with the green onions, wakame, and jammy, marinated egg. They pulled everything together to make this miso ramen so special and comforting. I was ready for dessert. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There was matcha and black sesame. I chose the latter. I don't have black sesame ice cream often. It was so creamy and had a delightful nutty flavour to it. It was the perfect ending to this meal. My server was attentive. She got me the bill. I let her know that everything was fabulous. She was delighted. I paid with a credit card and tipped. I tapped and I was done. I used the washroom before I made the brief trip eastbound to Steinbach. It was clean. No complaints. I got melon candy as a parting gift. I loved it. It's always a favourite of mine. This eatery is a gem for delicious, authentic ramen and gyoza. Come here! This place also offers sushi rolls, baos, and more. I'd love to return and try other items on the menu. However, I feel that I'll be back for more ramen. Priorities! (250)

Their ramen is excellent -- rich, flavourful broth and thick, tender cuts of char siu that melt in your mouth. The menu is huge, offering tons of variety beyond just ramen, so there's something for everyone no matter what you're craving. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get, and the service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The interior is clean and modern, with tidy tables and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. It's rare to find a spot that nails both quality and value, but GaiJin Izakaya does exactly that. Easily one of Winnipeg's best-kept secrets -- this place deserves way more recognition.

Despite the lack of a business sign, there was crazy fanfare while dining here for lunch today. I had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, and unfortunately with the demand here you may have to wait outside. They don't have a system yet where they could call/text you to know when your table's ready. There was a bit of a fantasy theme with the menus here, as some of the items make you think of role playing games like Runescape or League of Legends. Even their website screams fairy tale/fantasy/video game themed. I had The Oak Ramen, which consisted of pork and chicken based kale milk soup, pork katsu, egg, dill, corn, wood ear mushroom, leek, onion flakes, black garlic oil, and sesame. This is one of the most unique bowls of ramen I've had, it's a diversion from your traditional chashu ramen. Their bowl is gigantic, though their portion sizes are only average to above average. You have a choice between their traditional ramen or thinner-style ramen, but I suggest traditional here. I can say in terms of the noodles, this is the best in the city. However I found the pork katsu didn't really fit in with the ramen; I would've preferred chashu for sure. I also had a Sylph matcha milkshake. I liked it, though $10 is slightly steep in my opinion. Service was a bit disorganized, and they need a numbering system if the demand they have for this place holds, because there were way too many people crowding the entrance. Hopefully they'll solve that eventually. Isekai is definitely now the best ramen place in the city. I'm sure they'll solve their teething issues with service and organization.
