As an avid sushi consumer, I have spent time eating sushi all around the world--LA, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, DC, Hawaii, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Gangneung, and many other places. I either go for the highest quality or the most budget friendly (best bang for your buck) sushi spots. In all honesty, visiting Winnipeg, I had low expectations for the sushi. I've been spoiled with some of the best sushi all around the world. That being said, I was blown away with Hiro Sushi! I can say with full confidence that Hiro Sushi has one of the best combinations of high quality fish and reasonable/affordable prices as any sushi place I have ever visited. The phenomenal plating was just a cherry-on-top.
For nigiri / sashimi--I recommend the salmon, salmon belly, eel, and halibut. 9.7/10.
For rolls (those who can't do real sushi )--I recommend all of them. I don't remember the names, but they were all good. Some were spicy, some sweet, and some had a good combination of sweet and spicy. 9.3/10.
The roe bowl may be the best I've ever had outside of Tokyo. 10/10.
The poke bowl (or more like hourensou) was the best I've had. Better than Hawaii and Tokyo. 10/10.
