Awesome place to satisfy sushi craving. Will gladly return again if I am in town. The price is not bad.

Coming from Los Angeles we have fairly high expectation for Japanese food. California roll after all was invented in California. So coming to a Japanese restaurant that featured a lot of rolls, well... we try them. The menu surprisedly featured quite a few izakaya style small appetizers. With proper appetizers one must have a little bit of sake. So we ordered edamame (boiled soy beans), chicken karaage (fried chicken Japanese style), battered fried soft shell crab, and a tuna avocado appetizer called maguro something (I forgot but it was really delicious). Also ordered agedashi tofu (Japanese fried tofu) and seafood tempura. The appetizers were excellent. The tofu and tempura are lightly battered and fried with very little oil. The rolls and the sushi are also excellent. Spicy tuna rolls (which is a staple in Los Angeles) is well made. We also ordered tuna sushi, fatty tuna sushi, BBQ eel sushi, snapper sushi, and giant scallop sushi. Quite decent. Personally I like sushi rice that is made with a little more vinegar but this was decent. The service is excellent. For sure will come back. read more

My friend and I tried the "Smokey" sushi creation and "double salmon" sushi rolls. First off the Miso soup was delicious but I wish the bowl of soup had been bigger. The sushi was ofcourse deliciously perfect! The sushi pieces here seemed thicker and larger than at other places, which was great to eat. My friend then tried a bento box special and was delighted to find out it was bigger than he expected. He ate everything and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere here is both casual and classy. Come as you are and enjoy your food in a romantic, cozy, dimly lit restaurant. The food is prepared beautifully too. read more

My daughter and I went to Naru for the first time this weekend and they did not disappoint. We had the Shrek Roll, a Chef's Choice (9) and one of their Spicy flaming dishes (sorry, I don't remember what it was called). Every bite was flavorful. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the pricing was great. The restaurant itself is a bit dated but clean and well lit. Thank you for such a pleasant experience. read more

+.5 for service Naru Sushi is one of several sushi restaurants in Osborne Village, and I do intend to eventually try most of them. My friend recommended me to try this place as he's been here before and had positive reviews about it. The restaurant is quite small, I'd say it doesn't seat more than 30. For peak hours I'd say you may have to wait for a table, but I didn't have a lineup at around 6pm on a Monday. It's quite modernly designed too, which I also liked. Their menu is very extensive, especially when it comes to rolls. After several minutes of deciding, I decided to have the Osborne Roll, Kami-Gajea Roll, and Pink Dolphin Roll. The rolls ranged from excellent to disappointing. The Kami-Gajea Roll was absolutely delicious (to the point I went for a second order), while the Osborne Roll had barely any flavour at all. The Pink Dolphin Roll was decent, but nothing spectacular. Service was very good. For rolls variety this place is good, but I can't say if I'll return until I try the other sushi places in the Village. read more

This place has undergone ownership changes and is now called "Naru Sushi" instead of Miyabi. But many things have remained the same including the decor which hasn't changed much. I don't really like the banquette seating here and unfortunately that has remained from the past owners. The banquette seating is way too high and fluffy so it makes for a somewhat odd seating experience. Try to get a table by the window with regular chairs instead. The menu is fairly large - lots of appetizers and rolls to choose from. Pricing here is very fair and I might even say inexpensive for sushi. They have lots of lunch specials that range from $8-$10. I really liked the "magurli" ($7.50), this is an appetizer dish that serves up 5 slices of tuna tataki that sits on a thin slice of cucumber and topped with crab and avocado and flying fish roe with a slight drizzle of kimchee sauce. Very interesting flavours on this Japanese/Korean dish. The "Osborne Roll" ($7.50) has tuna tataki with tempura crumbs, a green leaf and sesame sauce was rather bland and disappointing. The "spicy chopped scallop roll" ($5.50) was delicious with a good zing and had the right amount of mayo. A really good roll topped with toro is the "Moonbow Roll" for $12.50. Another fave is the "Ohana Roll" ($9.50) which has tuna and avocado, topped with wild salmon. $16 for a wild salmon and fatty tuna sashimi order was well worth it as the portions were quite decent and the fish was pretty good. It wasn't the best sashimi I've had but good enough. Wine is pretty inexpensive here as their house white (sauvignon blanc) was only $5.50 for a 5 ounce pour. Service is effective and nice though the server wasn't super knowledgeable with some of the questions we had. But overall, a good sushi place and serves up to be a romantic place for dinner or a good place to catch up with a few friends over sushi and a nice quiet atmosphere. read more

I was looking for a really good sushi place as I'm visiting Winnipeg and my usual place is gone. I found this place on yelp, and boy am I happy I went here. The waitress was very attentive and Got our drinks quickly, and would refill them just as fast which I really appreciated. I started with the tempura shrimp which was cooked to perfection. The two of us got six different kinds of rolls, and my favourite was this uni crab one. Overall all the rolls were amazing though. For the two of us with a tip it came to $60, which isn't to bad. Like the other reviewers, I love the huge selection of vegetarian creations, and the presentation is gorgeous. When it comes to sushi you get what you pay for, so the slightly higher price point of Naru is worth it. I love the vegetarian caterpillar roll best! A more affordable way to try Naru is to go for their lunch specials -- all under $10, they come bento-box style with combos of salad, soup, rice, rolls, dumplings, tempura and more. One point to criticize: one friend of mine is asthmatic and very allergic to mold, and she prefers not to eat in the restaurant because she reacts to the smell of the mold (I don't really notice it, she's very sensitive). I decided to take a visit to the sushi place while walking through Osborne street. I ordered the spicy miso chicken which is basically popcorn chicken (9.5$). I also ordered a side of ride (1.5$). Luckily I enjoy popcorn chicken because this plate was pretty average. Had a little amount of cabbage underneath the chicken. Yikes, we ordered from this establishment on a Sunday at 4:45, through skip the dishes. We were told the order would be 50 mins. That seemed reasonable. An hour and half later we contacted Naru Sushi and the person there said our order was completed and delivered. We had told the person we had recieved nothing. She said she would look in to the order and get back to us. She never did. Finally the skip the dishes tracker appeared and we noticed that our order was leaving Naru Sushi at 6:40. Obviously Naru Sushi lost our order. Not a phone call or sorry for this mistake. Not to impressed for my first time ordering from Naru Sushi. The order arrived at 7:15... Skip the dishes, who understand customer service, issued us a refund. Thank you Skip the Dishes. I went to Naru on Canada Day. I was there at about 3:30pm which was not a particularly busy time as there were many open tables. The interior has definitely seen better days. It looked rundown. The service was subpar. Not having English as his first language was not an acceptable excuse for the server to not say please and thank you where appropriate. In fact, I don't think he said either of those even once. On the bright side, the two vegetarian rolls I had were quite nice. I used to go to Miyabi a lot back in the day. Miyabi has changed its name to Naru, but the bright neon "Miyabi" sign is still shining in the window. This is a blue glowing beacon, lighting the way to fresh, beautifully presented food. Obey its siren sushi call. Naru's cuisine is amazing; the selection of vegetarian rolls in particular is staggering, but all of its food is creative in that "I never would have thought to do that, and I should have because I would now be a millionaire" sort of way. Open the menu, which is several pages long, full of mouth-watering photographs of the dishes and clear descriptions of exactly what deliciousness will come to you upon ordering. Place your order with your lovely server - who will always have a smile and be friendly because that is The Way of the Naru - and then food will emerge. This food will make your tongue do somersaults of delight. Sometimes, it will charm your eyes as well, with an accompaniment of an enchanting little shot glass filled with fresh flowers, or a carved vegetable flower, or some other piece of artistic whimsy. I also remember a special Valentine's Day, last year, in which a red rose was presented to me at the end of my already-exquisite meal, and all I could think was, "Really? I mean, really?! This evening wasn't perfect enough yet??" Naru makes me happy every time I go; the food, the service, the decor, all coordinate perfectly in a veritable ballet of yumminess. I don't even know where to fucking start. We walked in, and the sushi atmosphere was at a 7/10. We were happy. We also had a big Time constraint, which the waitress was down to accommodate. I ordered a small boat for myself. The waitress thought it was for the table; but she was dead wrong. Straight up for just me. My friend then ordered a boat himself, and that's when we literally set it OFF. We were at an 8/10. Then the boats came...I was sailing away. Fish was fresh it was well prepped. Went here because all of the other sushi places closes early on a Saturday night! I like that it's open later than the others. And of course the ever so unpredictable parking on Osborne. But don't stay away, the food is great! I recommend trying the double salmon. The salmon was fresh and to my surprised the rolls were pretty big portion. Finally made it here and this is now in the top two in this city. Over all I found the selection and service to be some of the best we have gotten in WPG, and the price was ok to. I come here maybe once a month because I simply cannot get away. I suggest coming in a group of 3-4 people and getting few rolls and the yam tempura. WOW the yam tempura is to die for. I cannot get enough of the stuff. Every time I go to Naru I get something different and have yet to be disappointed. I really like crab rolls and that is exactly what Naru has mastered along with its Tempura batter. I was extremely disappointed with my experience. There was hair in just about everything, it was often strung through the sushi. I even found plastic in one of my pieces. It didn't taste fresh, and the tempura yam roll had raw yam in it. Our soya sauce dishes were even dirty from previous use, and all the dishes were actually plastic. The sushi also fell apart as soon as you picked It up, and was definitely made a while before our arrival(we didn't book ahead) the pieces were also really big, which seems nice, but is actually not traditional and is much more difficult to eat. I have to say, this place has turned me into a sushi snob. I won't eat sushi anywhere else now! Miyabi has by far the best vegetarian rolls of anywhere I've found in the whole city. They have a huge selection of unique and delicious rolls for us non-fish eating people. And my friends who go with me every week who DO eat the fishy rolls and sushi are also HUGE fans. Great service and decent prices. I highly recommend the vegetarian california roll and the new sweet pepper roll. Be sure to get a side of the Spicy Dragon Sauce if your roll doesnt already have it on it. And make reservations if you can. LOVE this place! read more
