Duuuuuuude. Best sushi I've ever had. If I want to have really good sushi this is the place I go. Every specialty roll is out of this world with totally different flavour profiles like nothing you'd ever see at the regular sushi shops. Yes the rolls cost more but don't be broke. The specialty rolls are about 20-37$ a roll I think but they are seriously out of this world. 10 out of 10 Highly recommend, plus the staff there are amazing. You gotta try it. The seared foie gras roll has such an interesting flavour and the new style roll I think it was called is a sushi roll that somehow tastes like the best steak you've ever had in your life. I don't know how they pull it off but every bite leaves you wanting more. read more

Wasabi Sabi on Taylor (next to La Grotta) is quite nice and it is very elegant. This place reminded me of walking into a high class restaurant in Las Vegas. I felt underdressed when I was here on a casual dinner date with a friend. The service was excellent. I was offered coat check when I walked in the door during my visit in Dec. The restaurant serves a number of speciality rolls, a selection of sashimis, wagyu beef, and other hot dishes. The price is on the higher end in comparison to other sushi places in town, however, the food was very good. During my visit, I had the vegetables tempura, rainbow roll, sabi mushroom roll and truf e veggie roll. Of all, I enjoyed the sabi mushroom and the rainbow rolls the most. I would highly recommend Wasabi Sabi to all. If you're looking for an elegant sushi restaurant in town, this is the place to check out. read more

This is an update in regards to happy hour. They have an amazing offering of a type of happy hour sampler for which you choose 4 menu items from a selected list, and get a small portion of each for a mere $16! Some of the selections include Sashimi (only 1 per 4 items chosen), sushi tortilla, spicy mango prawns, tempura, and much more! They also have an awesome offering of $5 cocktails during this post-work recovery period; a couple of my favorites being the Wasabi Caesar and the Lycheetini (obviously). I'm inclined to give this place 4 stars for their food and the beautiful decor but unfortunately the service takes this rating down a notch. Yes, I get it, the Wasabi establishments are the priciest and most stylish places to dine at but great restaurants always have great service to complement their food! I find the hostesses to be unbearably icy. I don't need them to be all bubbly but crack a smile and seem like you're happy to do your job (which really involves greeting patrons and walking them to their table). Servers are hit and miss here too. Although the sushi chefs are always nice and say hi when you walk by. Otherwise, the menu is very similar to Wasabi on Broadway. I love their appetizers - new style sashimi ($18 for about 8 thin slice of sashimi) is heavenly. Tuna nachos ($14) are always a fav with a hint of jalapeno. The jalapeno yellowtail ($18) is also delicious. I also love the softshell and mango salad - it's the perfect summer salad. My favourite rolls are the Will San, ECarriere, Kamakazi. I've eaten here a few times and the only time I've ever been disappointed was when I ordered the $50 (based on market price) Kobe beef. I've had Kobe before and it is super tender and flavourful. Unfortunately the 6 thin slices we received tasted very watery and bland. I mean the marbling was there but it was so disappointing. Very beautiful decor with a lounge, main dining room and a second level. My fav table is on the second floor where you can watch the sushi chef and the rest of the kitchen do their thing. This is December 2019 and there was no coat check as in the 12-2018 review. Went into the lounge without my glasses and it was hard to see the menu. I moved to the sushi bar as I was by myself and there is much more light to read the menu. So I guess it comes down to do you want to see your date or not. That will guide you to where you sit down. Wait staff was great. They did have wagyu beef there so expect to pay more for that. It did feel more upscale than most sushi bars. $$$ is about right inline with other reviews (glad I had the company credit card). I had a new style and crazy 88 rolls and both were good. The new style had a flavor to it that I have never had before. They do give a generous portion of ginger. They do not give out miso soup or a tiny salad so that is the reason for 3 stars. Solid sushi in the middle of Manitoba? It's all true. Coasters (especially west coasters) have traditionally loved to imply that if you're not near a coast you're not able to get your hands on fresh fish, solid sashimi, and inventive maki. Sushi in Wisconsin or Winnipeg? They turn their noses up because LOGIC DICTATES THAT YOU MUST BE NEAR A COAST TO HAVE GOOD FISH, RIGHT? You know what? That's bollocks... bollocks I say. It's not hard to figure out (but it's not eco-friendly either). You simply fly it in, quickly. We have the technology, people! Sure, it makes it all a touch more expensive, but that comes out in the wash with cost of living disparities, generally. Also, isn't most seafood coming out of the Pacific addled with radiation these days anyways? I digress. Wasabi Sabi: a sleek-ish spot situated in strip mall of sorts outside Winnipeg's downtown area. A giant, pull-down screen boasted the Jets game, which I hear is requisite just about anywhere you go in the 'Peg when they're playing, even the classier establishments. The bartender knew his cocktails - shout out to you, sir, for rocking a proper old-fashioned with bourbon Wisco-style! - and while I didn't partake, I was quite pleased with my gin/sake/plum wine martini. We started with the prawn appetizer, and while the prawns themselves were a bit heavy on the breading for my liking, the dish on the whole had a nice flavor. We then moved on to a few rolls, all of which were fresh, balanced, and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the Kamikaze maki. We got there a bit late and were the last to leave as we were chatting quite a bit, but service was gracious throughout and the atmosphere lovely, so there was truly no rush. Were I to find myself in Winnipeg again I'd certainly have no problem visiting Wasabi Sabi for a nice meal. It's solid sushi in the middle of Canada. Does that defy your logic? Good. Go. read more

Wasabi is by far the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to and this includes the ones I have tried in California. I love that this place looks more upscale - think Earls, but doesn't compromise the quality of their food. It is the only place I know of where you can get new style sashimi (sashimi that is slightly seared) and roles that are wrapped with either cucumber or radish. YUM! The last time I went here I tried their features roll which was called a velvet something or other. I was hesitant because it was $22 but it came with around 10 pieces and was AMAZballs. No regrets ordering it at all. Which does make me let you know that the sushi is on the pricey side, but worth it. All of the ingrediants are fresh and the drinks are well made. Some are weird combinations - like the ginger pear. Take that off the menu. When you make a reservation also think of where you want to sit. They have a party type room off the front hostess desk which is completely private, they have the lounge, the main floor dining (one side open to the chefs and the other closed) then they have the upstairs and the back room. This is my favorite restaurant in the city by far. My fiancé and I go here about once a month if not more. The sashimi is so fresh and totally just melts in your mouth. We love raw salmon, tuna and eel rolls but some sushi places will give you a sore stomach after eating. I have always left wasabi taylor with a happy tummy. The prices are higher than an average sushi restaurant in winnipeg, but if you compare the quality to every single one of them, wasabi Taylor will always take the cake! The staff is also always very knowledgeable and helpful. The parking lot is massive, you won't have trouble. Everything about this place is wonderful and I will always recommend it. read more

Delicious - may need reservations. Try the Godzilla roll. Service was great, knowledgable servers (I'm almost positive we had the shift supervisor who was very nice). Lovely decor and we even noticed that the acoustics were good. You could hear everything said at your table, but it was like the other tables weren't even there. Living in Vancouver for 8 years I've become quite the sushi snob. I've tried about 6 different places in Winnipeg and only a couple have been up to par with the west coast. This was one of them. It was the best one as the sushi/sashimi is undeniably fresh. Something that cannot be said of other establishments. The Ika here was so nice. Not a hint of fishy flavor. Everywhere else I could taste it and even had to spit out once. The salmon almost melted in your mouth it was so good. The downside is that this place is expensive so it isn't a place you can go to all the time. That being said I'm happy I've found a really good quality sushi place in Winnipeg as I have another 3.5 years here! read more

I would say best sushi in town. You do have to pay to get the quality offered here. The spicy mango prawns are never a miss. As far as the rolls go the wasabi tempura roll and white dynamite are my go to and they are always fantastic. Best tuna bakudan in town. Our dining experience at Wasabi Sabi was terrific. We brought a friend from out of town . The best sushi he,s had, was his comment. Of course we agreed. Our waiter suggested a few new dishes which were awesome. Not only was the food very tasty,but well presented. The service matched the quality of food . The only thing I would change is the seating. My friends and I ordered their spicy king crab legs. It was very good except it's the spice is very mild and also they've put way too much mayo. We've also ordered their King Salmon, which is wild salmon sashimi and it was cut into 5 thick pieces. Unfortunately, with a name like that I expected to be very good, the wild salmon was not deep orange red which it should be for wild salmon, maybe it was the end of the week and waiting for the next shipment of wild salmon? Honestly, you can get better one at costco for wild salmon and would taste better. We've also ordered the Gyu Tataki, seared angu beef with sesame sauce. it was good and the Sushi Pizza which is the deep fried sushi rice topped with salmon, tobiko, scallop, mayo , vegetables and special sacue. This was ok, I didn't find it the right toppings and the sushi rice was a bit too thick for me. For Sushi Rolls, We've ordered the Wasabi House roll, this was very good some places also makes this without the salmon skin which I prefer not to have it in there just keep it all raw fish but I guess the salmon skin will give you a bit of texture to chew on. The Rainbow roll was good, can't go wrong with this roll if you like California roll then this one is for you, it's topped with different kinds of raw fish on each piece. And the last sushi roll is the Volcano roll, which is chopped scallops, calamari and tobiko in creamy hot sauce over an avocado and unagi roll. This one was not that great. Again too much mayo and supposed to be topped with chopped scallops and instead they put way too much mayo and not enough chopped scallops, there was barely any on top we were just eating mayo and this one cost $12 at least make it worth that price. I wonder if dinner time will be better since we had it during lunch hour and it wasn't too busy in there compared to dinner time, the boss is around and watching over their sushi chiefs. read more

The interior is large and looks nice, however the sushi wasn't particularly good and quite expensive, even up to $4 per piece. There are sushi buffets in the city that cook better sushi for a fraction of the cost. Go here if you want to show off, but not if you want to actually eat. read more
